Twitter whacked by hours-long problems

The Social Media News press was hot here on Monday 06/15/2010 when Twitter had some issues to sort out.

And then when Twitter was up again the ‘whining’ started. I think everything from World Cup in Soccer to Justin Bieber was blamed.

How To Get Out Of Complaint Mode

The World Wide Web or Internet as we know is still a teenager, about 16 years of age. Social Web was born around 2000, and Social Media was introduced as a chargon around 2004. And Twitter was born in 2006!

Twitter is still a very young tool, and has plenty of time to develop. As users of this great Social Network we need to start being more creative, and come up with alternative task while Twitter is down.

We all have experience power outage, our server is down, domain is down, virus, phone line is dead etc. How often have you called in for some kind of service and the message you received back is that computer is down so your issue can’t be resolved.

All we see when obstacles comes our way is delays and negative challenges. Where did opportunity take it’s way?

Next time Twitter is down why not see the opportunity to come up with 3 creative tasks you can get done in this down time. There is no reason to stop being productive because Twitter is down. If that is the case then Twitter is not your biggest problem.

Twitter Downtime Tasks

Here are some of my creative tasks I work on when Twitter is down:

I am reading 2 chapters in The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People, and complete related task in workbook.

I am providing 2 tips and advices in 2 LinkedIn Groups.

I am reviewing my Action list, and go through how I have resolved 3 hurdles to achieve 1 action element.

Add some measurement to your task so you check off that they are completed.

Task: My positive challenge to you is to respond here with at least 3 creative tasks you can do next time Twitter is down.

Disclosure

Make sure you take time to read my Disclosure since one of the things I will focus on this year is providing opportunity and new income streams.

I just love my new theme from my friends at Headway. This has brought my blog to a new level. I am know totally in control of my blog. Check it out now!

What is Twitter Social Gatherings?

Twitter Social Gathering is also called Twitter Parties. These Social Gatherings is arranged through invitations. Most of these gatherings last from 1-2 hours.

And people that participate on these events often has common purposes or opinions who support one side of a dispute, question, debate, etc.

These Social Gatherings is conducted on Twitter.

How to arrange Twitter Social Gatherings?

First you have to set the ground rules for the event.

Set day for event

Set time frame

Set topic for event

Set #hashtag for event

Have host and moderators ready

Invite a expert panel to participate

Acceptance rules during conversation. Make sure everyone is aware of the do’s and dont’s during the event. Example: You can say it is ok to post direct link to blog 2 times during conversation. And 3 additional direct links that brings value to the discussion. No affiliate or sales links are accepted

Select hosting channel – TweetGrid and TweetChat is two useful channels

Define invitation channels – you can use your blog where participants has to fill out some registration form, and then out a predefined tweet for the event containing the #hashtag for the event. This gives you an opportunity to follow ups, and reminders. Some businesses also uses Eventbrite for their registrations. This is a great option.

Prices and rewards during event. Setting up prices and rewards is a great way to get participants fill out necessary registrations. Make sure you put a note on registrations site that only registered participant is eligible for the prices and rewards

Closing notes for event – make it clear to participants when event is about to end

Send participants summary of event, and notes of next event. Notify winners of prices

Why Twitter Social Gatherings?

This is really a great way to create a unique Social Media Experience for new business partners, new clients, new customers, new projects, new products etc.

NOTE: This is an event that provide a unique opportunity to build lasting relationships. Do NOT provide sales or affiliate links in your tweets. You then will be seen as a spammer, and nobody will return to your next event.

The event has a potential for boosting traffic, and you want to make sure all participants will benefit. Focus on the win-win opportunity that this brings.

One way to do it is in your registration form have options for adding blog/web url, and Twitter link. And then after event post list of participants with direct link to their blog and Twitter profile on your event blog.

How it can be done

Some businesses has really extended the Social Media Experience utilizing various online Social Events. Open Forum Pulse is a brilliant example on how you can use Twitter to gather small business owner. Here you will register through OAuth and provide necessary info when you log in with your Twitter profile.

This is a daily event for small business owners, and if you are a small business owner then I highly recommend checking Open Forum Pulse out.

Have you participated in any Twitter Social Gatherings yet? Share some of the pro’s and con’s that you see with these kind of events.

Be innovative and start your own unique online Social Event.

Disclosure

Make sure you take time to read my Disclosure since one of the things I will focus on this year is providing opportunity and new income streams.

In Top 10 Social Media Experience Goals Checklist we laid out our foundations. Now it is time to put it together.

1. Rinse – Repeat

This time we start out with rinse out everything on our plate – and then we review the
Top 10 Social Media Experience Goals Checklist.

We want to create a clear picture of our goals.

2. Go to infinity and beyond.…

If you let your free mind flow you maybe got somewhere between 50 – 500 goals down that you want to accomplish. Have fun with this and open your mind to all the possibilities. Get on your game hat and start asking yourself some questions. Here are some questions you can ask;

What do I want to do?
What do I want to have?
Where do I want to go?
What contribution do I want to make?
What do I want to become?
What do I want to learn?
Who do I want to spend my time with?
How much to I want to earn, save and invest?
How much time do I want off for fun?
What will to create optimum health?

This has been one of the more important exercises I have done – and as you can see here I have touched several aspects. One of my weak spots has been proper time management. I started to focus on more direct time management with assigning a time frame to various assignments. But this did not work to well for me, and I ended up going off task to often. So when I learned to focus on other areas and then prioritize them it worked out much better for me.

Since I am a extreme Libra I knew I needed some balance to make it work for me.

3. Picture It

Take a tour to your local book store and then stop the children’s books. And browse through a couple of them, and observe how these books present their information. In most of these books you will see a lot of illustrative pictures. This is how kids learn and understand.

You should start do the same for your business goals – start create a picture scrap book. I use a combination of drawings and pictures. Be creative – don’t over think this. Just be like child like.

4. Idea Book

Always carry some kind of device with you where you can jot down your ideas when they pop-up. I am a huge fan of Evernote. The reason I like this tool so much is that I sync it with my iPhone. And I can use my iPhone to either record or type my ideas when I am out on the road. Often when I am out driving I listen to some audio book, and then an idea strikes me. Then I record my idea through evernote, and get back to it when I get home.

Many also use a simple notebook. Use what works best for you.

5. Visualization

I have to admit this was probably one of the most tricky parts to learn and understand. But it is really powerful when you get it.

In sports this technique is used very often. This is about taking Picture It and Idea Book one step further. Now you are going to visualize your goals and ideas in action, and that it actually is happening to you. Use your positive imagination to create these awesome pictures.

Visualize yourself taking all the action needed to achieve your goal – visualize how you have got through all the hurdles and adversities on your way – visualize how the end result will make you feel.

6. Mentors – Master Minds

First time I heard or read about Master Minds was when I read Napoleon Hill’s book ‘Think And Grow Rich’.

In the beginning I did not really understood this. But this principle is all about finding some experience in the areas where you need most help. Then your learning curve will start increase rapidly.

Most of the these groups consist of 4 – 6 people.

Categorize your goals

a. Personal
b. Relationship
c. Fun time
d. Health/Fitness
e. Contributions
