30 years since our first live show...!

Tycho Brahe’s very first live show was 8 April 1995, 30 years ago!!! And here's some photographic proof!!! The gig was at Brisbane’s Institute of Modern Art, as part of local label Transcom's “Cyberia” event. The lineup consisted of me on lead vocals and bass guitar, and Georgina on keyboards and vocals, and this set the blueprint for the band moving forward as the technology and lineup expanded and evolved around us.

Georgina had a Korg DS-8 and Roland Juno-106 onstage on an actual keyboard stand, also controlling an Ensoniq EPS16+ rackmount sampler (we had to load floppy disks into it between songs). We didn’t have a rack case for that so it sat very precariously on an X-stand constructed from a kerbside rubbish ironing board (spray painted black). My Alesis Quadraverb was stacked on top of that for processing the bass via a Boss distortion pedal - a rudimentary version of the same rig I still use today. My bass was a cheap copy of a Fender, brand name “Ranger”, so I covered the “R” with some white tape so it instead read “anger”!

The setlist is lost to the mists of time, but it very likely consisted of an intro piece called Assimilating The ‘80s, followed by Armistice. The set probably also included Sanctify, Leap, Total Kaos, Seventeen, and White Room - which would have had the entire “beware the beast man” monologue from The Planet of The Apes as a pre-recorded intro…

The band lineup has changed and evolved over the years…we’re looking at you Stephen Birt, Alison Barclay, Lana Gishkariany, Francis Tohill, Andy Walls, Thomas Evans, and Sam Morrison. It has been quite a journey so far - but we’re not done yet! As long as we’re enjoying what we’re doing, we’ll keep doing it…not sure if there’s another 30 years in the tank but we’ll give it a shot ha ha!!!

We're beyond thrilled to be special guests of our Aussie heroes MACHINATIONS at two shows! Hot on the heels of our recent show with CALIGULA, we will be appearing at Miami Marketta on the Gold Coast on Friday 28 Feb, and at Hamilton Hotel in Brisbane on Sat 1 March.

Machinations second album Big Music has been on high rotation with some Tycho members since before Tycho Brahe even existed, and classic singles such as Pressure Sway, No Say In It, My Heart's On Fire, and Jumping The Gap are relentless earworms that have subconsciously informed Tycho's songwriting since the start. To wrap up the amazing year that was 2024, we've released a new single and retina-searing official music video! "I Believe" was originally conceived as an imagined follow up single to The Human League's 1983 hit "(Keep Feeling) Fascination", which itself was inspired by Prince's "1999".

March 2024 saw Tycho Brahe join The Human League on tour across Australia, thanks to Metropolis Touring and Destroy All Lines. The tour was a monster success for us, and to commemorate it here is the official video and single for FREE (2024 TOUR VERSION), a special arrangement of the song which we played at every show.

Created from audience videos sent to us by fans, the music video captures all the vibe, fun, and some of the crazy moments from across eight mostly sold out shows supporting The Human League!!!

Eight shows across five cities opening for The Human League to sold out audiences was always going to be very good - but we were not prepared for the phenomenal response that we received from every show. We have been flooded with very kind comments from a multitude of new fans both at shows and online, our t-shirts sold out before we finished the tour, and we sold a bunch of CDs too.

We will never forget the huge roar of applause from audiences during our performances in some of Australia's most iconic music venues, playing in Brisbane, Sydney (twice), Melbourne (twice), Adelaide, and Perth (twice) between March 6th and 17th, 2024.

We are investigating ways to get back out on tour as soon as possible, but in the meantime have started making our merchandise including t-shirts available online via Bandcamp for those who missed out at the merch desk. We'll also be getting another new tour-related release out asap.

Thank you everybody who assisted us, applauded at our shows, sang along, or commented - you are all amazing and make everything we do worthwhile. And of course, thank you to The Human League, Sidewinder Management, Metropolis Touring, and Destroy All Lines for having us on tour.

only a sin - new single and video

ONLY A SIN is Tycho's new single, currently available exclusively on Bandcamp, where you can find the original (video) version of the song and an extended club version - "Only A Sin (Risk Aversion)". The single will be released on other major streaming platforms in early 2024.

Only A Sin is a '90s influenced dance track incorporating elements of eurodance and freestyle, with nods to Pet Shop Boys and New Order, yet unmistakably Tycho with Georgina on lead vocals, and Ken on vocoder and bass guitar.

A Yamaha Peter Hook Signature Broad Bass Guitar was used in the studio sessions, however long term Tychfans will note that in the video the original Tycho "ANGER" bass guitar makes a rare appearance, as used on the Cassiopeia and Tasty albums and at many live gigs from the mid '90s though to early '00s. Also making a guest appearance in the video is Tycho Central canine resident, Trip L'Spot.

suffer well - depeche mode cover version

Back in April, we were generously invited by fantastic German synthpop record label conzoom, to participate in a compilation CD of Depeche Mode cover versions called "electropop.depeche mode". We recorded our interpretation of the 2005 Depeche Mode single "Suffer Well" in the few days just before travelling to the UK, Italy and Switzerland, in early May. The CD was released 8th August 2023, and we've uploaded a little video for it to YouTube, made at Tycho Central Studio. We had fun recording the song and making the video, and we hope you enjoy it. Thanks conzoom for this amazing opportunity!

Tycho Brahe's new music video for upcoming single LOVE BLIND LOVE will be premiering on the BIG SCREEN at New Farm Cinemas on Wednesday 18th May, 7pm.

An official release date is not yet set for LOVE BLIND LOVE, so this is an advance screening alongside the dance film for which it was initially composed, LOVE SONG, which features original music and score by Tycho Brahe and Tycho Sound Design.

LOVE SONG will be one of four dance films screening at New Farm Cinemas on 18th May by choreographer and film maker Claire Marshall, along with the LOVE BLIND LOVE music video. Tickets for this special one-off event are available here: https://www.trybooking.com/BZKZY

Here's Tycho Brahe's ode to the year that was 2021, and follow up to 2020 anthem Fuck Off 2020. No actual harm is intended to the Greek alphabet. Note there is a LANGUAGE WARNING (obviously), as this song drops the "F bomb" 33 times (count them if you wish), averaging approximately one every 4 seconds.

We encourage everyone to share this song far and wide as much as they wish to help farewell the shit sandwich of a year that was 2021. Play it at your New Year's Eve party on the stroke of midnight and sing along!

the rob mitchell remixes

"The Rob Mitchell Remixes" EP, released November 4th 2021, is available for streaming or download from all the usual online platforms, as well as directly from our Bandcamp page in your choice of file format, as a "name your price" purchase - so, that's free if you want :-)

The style of the remixes ranges from maybe what you might expect, through to some really left field unexpected genres, but all of these remixes will surprise you. Rob is a talented multi-instrumentalist and producer, and we're absolutely thrilled with what he has done to this collection of songs, using the original vocal tracks from the Cassiopeia album released waaaay back in 2000.

One of the projects that has been on the go over the past few months at Tycho Central is the score for Claire Marshall's dance film, "Love Song". Tycho Brahe features across the soundtrack, and an EP of music from and inspired by the film has been completed and will be released in association with the film, with the overall film score credited to Tycho Sound Design. This has been an incredibly fun, liberating, and inspiring project to work on, and a privilege to work with Claire on this. dreams of dying is 25 years old

May 16th 2021 will mark 25 years since the first arrangement of our song "Dreams of Dying" was locked in, with us playing it live very soon after as a two-piece band at venues around Brisbane such as the Normanby Hotel (The Abyss) and the Treasury Hotel. There is a very clear memory of playing it at The Zoo on 31st July 1996.

To mark the 25th birthday of Dreams of Dying, we've completed some new mixes of the song using the Cassiopeia-era vocals and some other audio elements recorded during 1998 - 99, plus some re-recorded parts. A video has been re-cut by Thomas Evans from the live 2004 video by Dennis Remmer (TransCom) and Scot McPhie (Mango-a-Gogo).

Dreams of Dying 2021 will be released on 16th May, and will include the version from the video, a new dub mix, and the full length arrangement. It will be available on all major streaming and download services such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Bandcamp, etc, and the video will be available on YouTube.

remembering the fully loaded tour...

On this date way back in 2005 we were in Melbourne for what we dubbed our "Fully Loaded Tour", opening for one of our favourite Aussie bands, Real Life. For Tycho Brahe the gig was memorable for two reasons - one being that the crucial distortion pedal for the bass guitar died immediately before the second-ever live performance of new song Don't Feel That Way, resulting in some very NSFW language onstage, the other reason being that yours truly was invited onstage to sing mega-hit Send Me An Angel with Real Life. (An amazing moment for me I'll never forget, although in retrospect I'm sure the Real Life fans in the audience would have preferred to hear David Sterry sing it solo!)
