I introduced this track on the last episode of Danger Radio. Before Tyler rudely cut me off, I had begun to discuss how I felt this tune was “Kinksy” and I liked the idea of lyrically putting adult thoughts into the character of a six year old. If only the young’ns could articulate their wants and desires… Anyway, there may be too many beards in this band, but I may forgive the lumberjack stylings because of their location in the Great White North (I mistakenly said they were from Montreal, not so… Toronto). However, if they churn out a few more tunes like this, I might even be bothered to catch a show. The jury is still out… Look & Listen HERE

The Heartbreaks “Liar, My Dear” is probably the closest thing to a Smiths single I’ve heard in years. This band potentially has IT. I’m just waiting for the follow up.(This song was debuted a few episodes back and featured at SPLIT) ~Jake

I really do like BRS and I dig the chorus to their new song, Light It Up, which you can download by clicking on the link above. Is it necessary for me to dig into them about their inclinations towards hipsterism that is becoming apparent? Or am I judging them too harshly because of the absolute shit that is their video for this track? Can we choose another point of reference than Lord of the fucking Flies?  Hipsters – the dirt you have on your face is not due to hard work, you have dirt on your face because you accidentally wiped your cheek after using an ATM that was dirty. Also, what island are you on where eye liner is available?

BRS – You guys started off really solidly and sounded like your own thing. You were aggressive and that’s what the indie world needs right now. Don’t back off of that. You could go either way right now, stay on target.

While Domino records didn’t go irreparably off track, but where they once were the pinacle of cool indie, they started getting a little wanky with the electro dance bands a few years back. I guess you can’t fault them for correctly judging which way the wind blows – they are  a business after all. On the other hand, when you’ve forged your place as one of the reliable sources of good music and then you change… well…. what can be said about that? It looks like they are trying to correct their path recently though – which has the full endorsement of Tyler Danger Jacobson.

Anyway, enough ranting as Amazon is offering a Domino records compilation as a free download and I’d recommend picking it up. I haven’t given all of these bands a listen yet, but it’s got a new single from the Archie Bronson Outfit (which is really great, as is the entire new album), Wild Beasts (played on Danger Radio by our guest Matthew Brown), Steve Mason of the Beta Band (you judge if I’m being too hard on him),  and my beloved The Fall all make appearances. Plus the price is right.

Well done, Thee Oh Sees. Catch Thee Oh Sees on tour this year, with amazing acts like Pavement, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Flaming Lips – or if you live in Denver, on their own.

Working For A Nuclear Free City have always been one of those bands that is either absolutely brilliant or absolutely forgettable. That said, I will gladly give them credit for the gems they have created and they are mostly beard and mustache free… so that already puts them in the 80th percentile globally. Being from Manchester & label mates of The Soundcarriers and Standard Fare doesn’t hurt either.
