While the Virginia earthquake last month ended up doing minimal structural damage, the true power of the quake came through twitter. Immediately as the ground started shaking, the twittersphere started buzzing with jokes about the potential damage, flaunting pictures of lawn chairs knocked over.

Some brands got caught up in the fun and took it upon themselves to make light of the situation through their official twitter accounts, with others just wanting to make a few extra sales. Take a look through some of the tweets below to see if you recognize any of the names.

From all of the tweets, the award for best use of twitter during a crisis goes to @ReadydotGov. It showed that a government organization can be very immediate in a crisis response and provide a helpful service.

@ReadydotGov What to do after an earthquake: 1.usa.gov/qwNpEH #earthquake #DCQuake

What are your thoughts? Did your business pile on to the #earthquake bandwagon? Do catastrophe chasers impact your purchasing decisions?
