When a map has too many markers, it can quickly become cluttered and harder to use. Toolset Maps 2.2.1 now supports marker clustering for OpenStreetMap, making dense maps easier to read and navigate.

Instead of multiple overlapping pins, markers now group into tidy clusters that expand as visitors zoom in. The result:

• Faster performance on Views with many markers
• An easier way for your users to explore data-heavy maps

Google has introduced a new Autocomplete API for Google Maps searches, and Toolset Maps 2.2.1 supports it right out of the box.

Along with the improvements to Toolset Maps, this release also includes bug fixes across Toolset plugins:

• Compatibility improvements: This release cleans up old function calls and property access so that PHP 8.2 no longer shows deprecation warnings. This keeps things running smoothly with the latest and future PHP versions.
• Multilingual fixes: Toolset 1.6.21 fixes issues with date translations in dynamic fields. Localized dates now display correctly in every language and work properly with WPML.

If you’re using Toolset and WPML together, this update brings a dramatic performance improvement.

Until now, Toolset Types re-registered default labels for post types and taxonomies on every page load—a background process that triggered WPML’s string registration logic and slowed down loading times. 

Now, this registration runs only once per plugin update, instead of every time someone visits a page.

You won’t see a new screen or setting, but you’ll definitely feel the difference. Your translated pages will load significantly faster, and your entire site will feel more responsive.

Toolset Views 3.6.20 and Toolset Blocks 1.6.20 restore compatibility with WordPress 6.8 by fixing a bug that broke Views using the Table loop layout style. 

If you created a View and selected the Table layout, the page may have shown an error like: “Your site doesn’t include support for the toolset-views/table-column block.”

This update restores the missing block so your Views work and display table formats as expected again.

This fix came later than usual, and we appreciate your patience. We always aim to have Toolset plugins fully compatible ahead of WordPress releases. This was an exception, and we’ve already taken steps to improve our processes so Toolset stays in sync with future WordPress releases.

Toolset Access 2.9.4 includes two fixes that improve behavior for WPML-powered sites:

• Authors can now preview drafts in multilingual setups

Previously, if you controlled a post type with Toolset Access and used WPML to manage access capabilities for translations, users with any role other than Administrator couldn’t preview drafts.

This update introduces a safe check that allows authors to preview their own unpublished drafts on the front-end.

• Paginated blog pages now work in all languages

Toolset Access 2.9.4 improves compatibility with WPML by allowing paginated blog archives in secondary languages to load correctly—even when the blog uses a translated static page and Toolset Access manages permissions.

Now, translated blog pages retain their pagination URLs (e.g. /it/blog/page/2) and display as expected for all permitted users.

For me, Toolset isn’t just a product. It’s a community of developers, site owners, and creators who are passionate about building exceptional WordPress websites.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with the team. I’ve learned from the people who built Toolset. I’ve also had the chance to dive into the development work that makes this product what it is.

I want to take a moment to share a few words from the previous leadership, because they really capture how we got here:

Build with OpenStreetMap and Enjoy a Faster Map Block

One of the most requested features is now available in Toolset Maps 2.2.0: full integration with OpenStreetMap. You can create fully interactive maps without relying on API keys or paid subscriptions.

But that’s not all. Behind the scenes, we’ve moved the Map block entirely to JavaScript, cutting down on backend calls and eliminating the lag you may have felt when making updates. Now, the interface is faster, and you’ll see previews instantly as you build. 

If you’re working with Azure Maps, you’ll notice that we fixed some glitches, too. Marker dialogs now stay inside the map view, and markers load at exactly the right moment, so everything looks and works just as it should.

Improved Multilingual Workflows with WPML

If you’re using WPML, you’ll notice smoother integration all around.

You no longer need to jump between different screens. The Translation Management Dashboard is now your central hub for sending all Toolset-related content for translation—including custom post types and their labels, taxonomy labels, relationships, and field groups.

Just go to WPML → Translation Management, find the section with what you want to translate (like labels or field groups), select the items, and send them for translation. 

That’s it—quick and straightforward.

Toolset 1.6.19 also adds full support for WPML’s revamped Advanced Translation Editor, which now mirrors the structure of the WordPress editor. This makes it easier to translate complex, structured content with familiar labels and layout.

Expanded Label Support for Custom Post Types and Taxonomies

Toolset Types 3.6.0  gives you even more ways to fine-tune how your custom content appears in the WordPress admin.

When you register custom post types or taxonomies, you can now customize a broader set of labels—covering everything WordPress supports up to version 5.8. This includes newer labels like the message shown after publishing an item. 

For example, you can change “Add Book” to something more relevant, like “Submit a Bestseller”.

With this new support in Toolset, messages feel more tailored and intuitive for the type of content you’re managing.

General Improvements and Fixes

Alongside the major updates, Toolset 1.6.19 includes a range of smaller fixes and enhancements to improve your day-to-day work.

In Toolset Views and Blocks, Button blocks show their icons properly, and Image blocks linking to Lightbox work properly inside AJAX-paginated Views.

You’ll also benefit from improved compatibility with PHP 8.2 and 8.3, so you’re ready for the latest server environments.

WordPress 6.7 brings new powerful features to speed up your development process and launch sites faster. This includes custom preview settings in the WordPress editor, zoom out view for Site Editing, Query Loop that automatically inherits queries from templates, and more.

However, WordPress 6.7 also introduced changes that cause issues when working with the Views block:

• Using an existing View in a block might end up with that block being declared as corrupt
• Closing the sidebar might break the View block

To continue enjoying a smooth development experience and ensure compatibility with WordPress 6.7, we highly recommend updating Toolset plugins before switching to the new WordPress version.

• A fix to ensure image blocks generate src attributes when using dynamic sources.
• Filters by decimals can now manage values as integers.

How to Update Toolset to Latest Version

Similarly to previous updates, we’re releasing Toolset Views 3.6.17 and Toolset Blocks 1.6.17 gradually. If you want to update right away, follow these steps to update straight away: 

1. Log into your WordPress admin dashboard.
2. Go to Plugins → Add New and click the Commercial tab.
3. Click the Check for updates button.
4. Select the Toolset components with the new version available (they appear in red).
5. Click the Download button.

Customer experience (CX) covers every step a customer takes when purchasing from you. It includes that first visit to your website and landing page, the gathering of information about you and the product, the purchase itself, and any post-purchase experience. 

Poor CX is something that many businesses are struggling with. A recent CX report highlighted that around 47% of customers claimed to have had ‘lackluster’ experiences when engaging in e-commerce activities. When there are major issues with even one step in the buyer’s journey, it could affect their overall perception of your brand. In fact, an estimated 32% of consumers would stop doing business with a brand after just one bad experience.

The issue here is that poor CX can lead to lost customers and cause high bounce rates and low conversion rates, two metrics you likely track. There can also be a knock-on effect in that disgruntled customers may leave negative reviews, thus putting off potential new customers from even visiting your site.

So, you can see that good CX is important, but how can you improve that CX to ensure your customers are happy? 

1. Mobile optimization

The first thing to understand is that close to 60% of global internet traffic comes from mobile devices. By having an unoptimized website, you are immediately alienating more than half of your potential customers. Someone browsing from a mobile should have the same CX as someone browsing from a desktop.

There are several things you should be focusing on when it comes to mobile optimization.

• Loading time. People want sites to load quickly so you should ensure that your site loads well for mobile devices. 
• Responsive design. Have your site read well no matter what sort of device the customer is using. 
• Use pop-ups sparingly. While pop-ups can be a great tool, overuse on the mobile version of your site can be disruptive to CX. Use them for important things such as CTAs (calls to action).
• Think local. Searches using the phrase ‘near me’ have been growing 5 times faster than other searches. When building your mobile SEO, try and include local keywords where possible.
• Easy navigation. Remember that there is a huge difference in screen sizes. Make your site clear and easy to navigate for all devices. 
• Consider a mobile URL. Given the potential number of mobile users on your site, it may be worth considering a separate URL so you can optimize CX. 
• Customize content. While you may want to convey the same messages, it can be worth customizing shorter content for mobile users.

2. Website navigation

One of the first things many first-time visitors to your site will do is look around. If your website navigation is poor and cluttered, they will quickly get confused and frustrated. In many cases, this will ultimately lead to them looking elsewhere. 

Optimizing your navigation will provide better CX at the first step. Use categories and sub-categories to separate your different products and services. You could also add filters (for example, size, gender, etc.) to make it easier for visitors to search for things. 

Take Sephora for example. They have thousands of products, but their site is easy to navigate as users can search for what they’re looking for or browse using their extensive categories and subcategories. 

3. Make checkout easy 

While cart abandonment can vary by sector, the average in 2023 was 70%. Much of that abandonment is caused by issues during the checkout process. This can be very frustrating to businesses as they are losing customers at one of the last steps in the CX journey. 

Make checkout as simple as possible to reduce cart abandonment or look at tools that allow you to customize your checkout process. And for future improvements, you can email or use a pop-up survey for departing customers to identify issues they encountered. Some things to consider for your checkout step include:

• Highlight security. Consumers want to be sure that their payment information is secure, so highlight what you do to ensure that.
• Guest checkout. People often don’t want to go through lengthy registration so offer guest checkout options.
• Transparency. Don’t have hidden costs added at the final stage. Include all costs on the landing page and if possible, have a shipping cost calculator they can consult. 
• Payment methods. If people find their preferred payment option isn’t available, they may go elsewhere. Offer as many different payment methods as you can. 

For example, the image below shows how Zara makes payment easy. They include guest check-out, dedicate a different page to each step, provide clear instructions and allow a variety of payment methods. 

4. Test your loading speeds

An estimated 40% of customers will abandon a site if it takes more than three seconds to load. This can also be a factor in cart abandonment and can lead to high bounce rates for your website. 

Test your loading speeds using tools such as Google’s PageSpeed Insights and, if slow, identify what factors may be causing it. There can be many causes that could be the reason your site loads slowly for example:

• Unoptimized or too-large images
• Too much Flash content
• Too many ads
• Problems with JavaScript
• Network and/or server issues

5. Virtual assistants

Many people like the personal service that you find in brick-and-mortar shops. While you may already be offering great customer support, what do you do for people who are browsing your site? Virtual assistants (VA) can be a great way of assisting them while shopping. 

You might be using chatbots and other AI-powered systems to offer support, so why not extend their use to being VAs? You’ll find a lot of VAs in contact center solutions and using them on your website can vastly improve your ecommerce customer experience.

6. Listen to your customers

If you are seeing issues with your CX, then there is little point in flailing blindly in the dark. The quickest – and easiest – way to identify what’s not working is to listen to your customers. They can identify any problems and pain points they have experienced. 

Asking for feedback on their experience can take several forms, including pop-up surveys or email questionnaires. If you find you’re struggling to gather feedback, you can consider incentivizing the process. As well as getting good data to analyze, you also show your customers that you value their opinions. 

Like the example below, remember to also give customers the option to report any issues with the survey or questionnaire. This can be a great help for building future surveys and for if you discover your response rate is less than you expected. 

7. Have clear product descriptions

Customers like to have information at their fingertips. That can mean ensuring that you clearly describe every product. Having a concise description, with more detailed information available, can mean a smoother CX journey. 

Descriptions should not just be textual, including good photographs of the products can also help influence purchasing decisions. List the main features and list any previous, positive reviews. 

The Nike example below does just this. There are a variety of photos from different angles, a product description and the more specific product details as well as customer reviews, all easily available from one product page. 

The other advantage of clear descriptions is that it can make it easier to upsell and cross-sell. By having a product’s features – ideally, in a bulleted list – customers can instantly see the added benefits that may come with a more expensive product.

8. Loyalty programs and rewards 

Your customers like to feel appreciated, especially if they are regular buyers. Not only are reward and loyalty programs a good way of recognizing existing loyal customers, but proactive outreach can also be a great way of attracting new customers and building loyalty. 

In some ways, you could view this as more of an “enhancement” than anything else, but it is still improving your customers’ experience. You could offer a range of incentives, from free shipping or discounts to free trials when you’re rolling out a new product update.

Crucial Toolset 1.6.9 Update for WordPress 6.4 Compatibility

With the release of Toolset 1.6.9, we’re ensuring that Toolset Blocks and Toolset Forms continue to work with WordPress 6.4. 

Before you update your site to WordPress 6.4, upgrade to Toolset 1.6.9 to prevent issues with block functionality in the WordPress Editor. 

If you update to WordPress 6.4 without also updating Toolset, your block content will remain visible on the front-end, but your blocks might stop working in the editor on your site’s backend.

It’s important to stay up-to-date with your Toolset plugins to ensure compatibility and stability of your website. This allows you to maintain a secure, efficient, and smoothly operating website. 

Other Fixes and Improvements

Toolset 1.6.9 fixes how Toolset widgets work in the Elementor page builder. It also includes improvements to prevent errors in PHP 8 or newer versions when handling incorrectly formatted date fields.

Toolset Types 3.5.0

Toolset Types 3.5.0 introduces two new filters that let you bypass the default query for post type relationships and populate a simple dropdown menu with values you specify.
