A passer-by who appeared to take photos with a 'selfie stick' in front of victims of the Westminster terror attack has sparked fury.

At least four people have died when a terrorist brought carnage to central London today, mowing down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and attacking police with knives in the grounds of the Houses of Parliament.

It is currently believed one attacker was involved, killing three people, including a policeman, and leaving at least 20 pedestrians and two other police officers seriously injured.

Witnesses said the aftermath was like a scene from a 'Hollywood disaster movie'.

But photos of casualties lying on the ground - before they got help - and people taking selfies at the scene have caused revulsion.

Scotland Yard said the attack, which comes a year to the day after the terrorist atrocities in Brussels, is being treated 'as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise'.

At least 10 people were hit on Westminster bridge when a Hyundai 4x4 drove along the pavement, knocking down pedestrians before crashing into a fence below Big Ben.

One victim of the car attack was left floating face down in the Thames but was pulled from the river alive.

The terror suspect, an Asian man in his forties, then broke into the grounds of Parliament and stabbed a police officer before he was shot.

In the aftermath of the attack, the hundreds of people inside Parliament were warned to stay away from any windows before being evacuated.

Armed police from the Met's elite terror squad combed the estate to ensure it was secure keeping people in the 900-year-old Westminster Hall.

Prime Minister Theresa May was later seen being bundled into the back seat of her silver Jaguar surrounded by armed guards.

A counter-terrorism investigation is already under way, police said.

Witnesses to a terrorist attack in which an assailant apparently plowed a car into pedestrians and an officer was fatally stabbed near the Houses of Parliament in London described a chaotic scene this afternoon, with injured people lying sprawled in all directions.

Police have said that four people died in the attack, including the police officer and the possible assailant.

At least 20 others were injured, including three police officers, authorities said.

The attack started when a car drove across Westminster Bridge, hitting and injuring people. It crashed into a fence in front of Parliament.

A suspect with a knife then attacked an armed police officer who was guarding Parliament.

More details about what transpired are not yet known, but Richard Tice, an eyewitness, told ABC News that he saw police steering people away from the area where the attack took place.

Another eyewitness told the BBC that someone driving a car on Westminster Bridge appeared to hit bystanders and that paramedics were treating people on the ground.

Journalists inside Parliament told The Associated Press they were told to stay in their offices.

British lawmaker Grant Shapps said on Twitter that he was walking through the cloisters of the House of Commons and heard "four gunshots."

Witness Rick Longley told the Press Association that he saw a man stab a policeman outside Parliament, the AP reported.

"We were just walking up to the station, and there was a loud bang, and a guy, someone, crashed a car and took some pedestrians out," he said. "They were just laying there, and then the whole crowd just surged around the corner by the gates just opposite Big Ben. A guy came past my right shoulder with a big knife and just started plunging it into the policeman. I have never seen anything like that. I just can't believe what I just saw."

Radoslaw Sikorski, a former foreign minister of Poland, posted a video on Twitter that seems to show people lying injured in the road on Westminster Bridge.

Sikorski, now a senior fellow at Harvard's Center for European Studies, wrote, "A car on Westminster Bridge has just mowed down at least 5 people."

Anna McConnaughy was flying to Alaska's largest city when the announcement came over the intercom: a passenger on a previous flight had brought a pet snake on board.

The passenger had gotten off the plane. The snake had not.

"The pilot came, and said, 'Guys, we have some loose snake on the plane, but we don't know where it is,'" McConnaughy said Tuesday.

Unlike the movie "Snakes On A Plane," this one wasn't venomous. Mostly, it was sleepy.

A little boy, one of seven passengers on the Ravn Alaska commuter flight Sunday from the Alaska village of Aniak to Anchorage, was climbing on his seat when he spotted the slumbering snake. It was lying partially covered by a duffel bag near the back of the plane.

"He said, 'Oh, Mom, look at this. What's that?'" McConnaughy said. "That's how we figured out there was a snake sleeping in the corner."

There was no panic. McConnaughy said. Mostly people wanted to see the snake.

A pilot came back to help, she said, leading to a short discussion with a flight attendant on how best to capture it.

"He said, 'I'll hold the bag, and you grab the snake,'" McConnaughy said. "Quite a gentleman."

The flight attendant grabbed the snake by the belly and dropped it into a plastic trash bag. It spent the rest of the flight in an overhead storage bin, and the plane reached Anchorage on schedule.

Anchorage television station KTVA first reported the incident.

McConnaughy's photos show a pale snake about 4 to 5 feet long. She said it appeared to want only to go back to sleep.

A spokesman for the airline, William Walsh, said in a statement that the snake owner had not registered the pet for travel in the cabin of the Ravn Alaska flight. After arriving in Aniak, he reported that his snake was missing and likely on the return trip to Anchorage.

The airline was thankful for the heads-up, Walsh said. However, it has specific requirements for carrying on reptiles. Ravn Alaska does not allow any large animal that's not a dog to be used as a service animal.

McConnaughy said there are plenty of snakes where she grew up in the Russian Far East. However, there are no wild snakes in most of Alaska, and she's not crazy about them, she said.

"Here in Alaska, it's kind of weird," she said.

American high school teacher Sarah Fowlkes has been suspended from her job after allegedly engaging in ‘sexual content’ with one of her students.

So you’d think that after such a serious accusation and turning yourself over to the police you’d be a bit more remorseful. But the biology and physics teacher couldn’t help but smile in her mugshot. Maybe she felt that her predicament was just one big joke.

You know who didn’t find it funny? Her employers, Lockhart High School in Texas. She was immediately suspended after handing herself into police, just hours after celebrating her 27th birthday with her husband.

According to the Daily Star the 27-year-old teacher is accused of being involved with “sexual content with the intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire” of a 17-year-old student.

According to the Lockhart Police Department “Their contact was of a sexual nature”.

Lockhart High School’s superintendent Susan Bohn released a statement saying:

Lockhart parents entrust their children to us every day, and it is something we do not take lightly… Student safety is the district’s most important priority. As soon as we learned of the report, we acted swiftly to involve law enforcement and CPS to conduct a thorough investigation.

Ignoring the typically mindless kind of comments a story like this normally generates -‘why did he say anything’ etc – if the allegations against Fowlkes are true it is totally unprofessional and a clear abuse of her position, despite the age of consent being 17 years old in the state of Texas.

A woman with a cyst weighing the same as ten newborn babies has finally had the five stone tumour removed to save her life.
The unnamed 24-year-old, from Mexico, noticed she was gaining weight despite being on a diet. But scans later revealed she was suffering from an ovarian cyst which grew ferociously over 11 months.
By the time of surgery it had a density of five stone and put her at risk of heart failure as it crushed her internal organs, meaning she had problems walking, breathing and eating.

Record-breaker: The unidentified woman, 24, was at risk of sudden death thanks to her five stone ovarian cyst which was compressing her innards

Now, more than six months on, the patient has regained mobility and returned to a normal life.

Dr. Hanson, from Mexico City, said: 'This is the biggest cyst I have operated on, it was so large that it took up 95% of the patient's abdomen. It's really rare to operate on a cyst this big, it measured half a metre in diameter and the circumference was 157 cm.

'From all the research I've found, this is the largest ovarian cyst ever to be removed whole without draining it first or spilling it.

'The largest in history weighed 320lb back in 1902, and took several days to drain, I can't even imagine one that large.'

He added: 'The patient was quite overweight, so after starting on a diet, she noticed her face, arms and legs were getting thinner but her stomach was getting bigger.

'When I met her, she could just about walk a couple of steps before getting agitated and feeling like she was struggling to breathe because the cyst was crushing her lungs.

'The largest in history weighed 320lb back in 1902, and took several days to drain, I can't even imagine one that large.'

He added: 'The patient was quite overweight, so after starting on a diet, she noticed her face, arms and legs were getting thinner but her stomach was getting bigger.

'When I met her, she could just about walk a couple of steps before getting agitated and feeling like she was struggling to breathe because the cyst was crushing her lungs.

Danger: Up to 20% of giant ovarian cysts are malignant, meaning that if the cyst was pierced it risked leaking tumorous cells into the patient's body

'Some experts say a giant cyst is anything bigger than 10cm, others that it has to weigh over 26lb (12kg) or that it has to be higher than the umbilical of the patient - this cyst was much bigger than all of them.

'If we hadn't operated it would have gotten to the point where she wouldn't have been able to walk, would be severely malnourished and unable to eat. It's hard to say how long she would have lived, but it would have been a really bad quality of life.

From all the research I've found, this is the largest ovarian cyst ever to be removed whole without draining or spilling it. Previously, the record holder was 320lb in 1902

'Two days after surgery she walked out of hospital. Before she was used to carrying 73 lb (33kg) inside her because of the cyst, so movement was like she was levitating or walking on the moon.

'When we saw her six months after surgery to see how the scar was healing and monitor for other problems, she was fully healed. She was standing completely straight. She now walks like a normal person without needing a walking stick or other mobility aids and her abdomen is now flat.'

The patient was referred to Mexico General Hospital as a last resort due to the concerning size of the cyst and complicated surgery needed to remove it.

Dr. Hanson said: 'Since the cyst had become so large, it had started to compress her intestines and was preventing her from eating.

She would be full after eating a tiny bit of food and because of the cyst's size, it was harder for food to pass from the stomach.

'The cyst was also compressing the two main vessels in the body since is a vain and an artery, which could have led to serious heart problems.'

Due to its size, Dr. Erik Hanson and Dr. Abel Jalife removed the tumour whole fearing that draining the cyst could put the patient's life at risk. Up to 20% of giant ovarian cysts are malignant, meaning that if the cyst was pierced it risked leaking tumorous cells into the patient's body.

'Draining beforehand can be dangerous, if any of the fluid spilled it risked contaminating the patient's abdominal wall and spreading tumour cells,' he added.

'But to remove it whole is also difficult because the cyst wall is less than one millimetre thin and needs to be prevented from drying out, otherwise it could easily break too.'

Holly is just the latest in a long list of celebrities who have threatened by hackers in what is being called the 'Fappening 2.0'.

Reports that Emma Watson and Amanda Seyfried had their private snaps shared online have been circulating for days now, and it's claimed that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Hacker News reports that others are to follow. "According to a screenshot from an original 4chan thread, unknown hackers will be posting more intimate photos of female celebrities, including Kylie Jenner, Marisa Tomei, Jennifer Lawrence and several others, over the next few days, which indicates it's just the beginning of The Fappening 2.0," they say.

"There is as yet no information on the source of the leaks or how the personal photos of celebrities were obtained, but the anonymous hackers are claiming that these leaks are just the tip of an iceberg and they're about to release the next batch of celebrities to get their photos leaked."

This weekend WWE star Paige shared a tweet stating that she also had her photos released online.

The 'Fappening' began in 2014, when a number of celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton, had their iCloud accounts hacked and their nude images shared online. Edward Majerczyk, 29, from Chicago was jailed for nine months for stealing and posting the images.

We are thrilled to bring a baby boy into the world this September.'

However, the expectant parents admitted that their secret was by no means an easy one to keep — particularly after they shared the happy news with Eric's father, President Donald Trump.

'Eric’s dad was so excited that we were worried he’d blurt it out at a press conference,' Lara told People of her father-in-law's reaction to the news.

Eric said they found out that Lara was pregnant on his 33rd birthday on January 26, which was 'pretty cool'.

A policewoman has fought back tears as she described the moment she saw a three-year-old girl in her cot with 'her whole head on fire'.

The girl's drug user father Edward John Herbert had also told his neighbour he burnt his daughter at their Perth home because she was 'too beautiful'.

The man is on trial in the Western Australian Supreme Court accused of setting alight his daughter and dousing her autistic seven-year-old sister with petrol at Doubleview, in Perth's north, in August 2015.

Herbert admits his intention to kill, but has pleaded not guilty to five charges on account of being unsound of mind.

Constable Stephanie Bochorsky was off-duty at the time and watching television at her neighbouring home when she heard an altercation between Herbert and his partner.

The constable told the court on Monday that when she asked the woman if she was OK, she replied: 'No, he's setting the kids on fire!'

Const Bochorsky ran into the house and smelt petrol.

'Her whole head was on fire,' she said, as she took a moment to compose herself.

The officer covered the girl in a blanket to put out the flames and saw Herbert pouring petrol over the older child in her bed.

Const Bochorsky told Herbert to get away from the children, but he did not respond and remained there, which she described as weird.

'My main concern was to get the flames extinguished,' she said.

The policewoman dragged the older girl out of the bed and bolted out of the house.

Prosecutor Amanda Forrester said in her opening address of the judge-alone trial that the three-year-old, who had burns to 13 per cent of her body, was permanently scarred from the life-threatening injuries she suffered.

Ms Forrester said Herbert was a cannabis user and drinker, who was behaving strangely leading up to the incident, with his moods changing from happiness to anger.

His partner said in her court statement that before the attack he seemed to be talking to himself and she was scared.

'I was trying to keep him calm as I was in fear for my life,' she said.

She said at one point that night he told her: 'The werewolf is coming at 12 o'clock.'

Later, he said: 'That's it bitch, I'm going to kill you.'

He then told her he would burn the children instead.

The woman said when she saw her burnt daughter she could 'smell burning flesh' and the girl appeared to be in shock, screaming and crying.

A neighbour said in his statement that when he rushed into the house with a fire extinguisher, after the girls had been rescued, he found Herbert drinking beer in the kitchen.

When he confronted Herbert, he replied: 'They're my kids to do whatever the f*** I want.'

Herbert also told the neighbour he burnt his daughter because she was 'too beautiful'.

He then lunged at the neighbour with a knife, but the man hit him on the head with the fire extinguisher.

The trial continues.

Billionaire philanthropist David Rockefeller dies at age 101

David Rockefeller, the billionaire businessman and philanthropist who was the last in his generation of one of the country's most famously philanthropic families, died Monday. He was 101.

Rockefeller died in his sleep at his home in Pocantico Hills, New York, according to his spokesman, Fraser P. Seitel.

He was the grandson of Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller and the youngest of six children born to John D. Rockefeller Jr. With the passing of his siblings, he became the guardian of his family's fortune and head of a sprawling network of family interests, both business and philanthropic, that ranged from environmental conservation to the arts.

To mark his 100th birthday in 2015, Rockefeller gave 1,000 acres of land next to a national park to the state of Maine.

Aspects of the Rockefeller brothers' upbringing became famous, including the 25-cent allowance, portions of which had to be set aside for charity and savings, and the inculcation that wealth brings great responsibility.

Two of his brothers held elected office: Nelson Rockefeller served as the governor of New York, hungered for the White House and briefly served as vice president. Winthrop Rockefeller was a governor of Arkansas.

David Rockefeller, however, wielded power and influence without ever seeking public office. Among his many accomplishments were spurring the project that led to the World Trade Center.

And unlike his other brothers, John D. III and Laurance, who shied from the spotlight and were known for philanthropy, David Rockefeller embraced business and traveled and spoke widely as a champion of enlightened capitalism.

"American capitalism has brought more benefits to more people than any other system in any part of the world at any time in history," he said. "The problem is to see that the system is run as efficiently and as honestly as it can be."

Rockefeller graduated from Harvard in 1936 and received a doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago in 1940. He served in the Army during World War II, then began climbing the ranks of management at Chase Bank. That bank merged with The Manhattan Company in 1955.

He was named Chase Manhattan's president in 1961 and chairman and chief executive officer eight years later. He retired in 1981 at age 65 after a 35-year career.

In his role of business statesman, Rockefeller preached capitalism at home and favored assisting economies abroad on grounds that bringing prosperity to the Third World would create customers for American products.

He parted company with some of his fellow capitalists on income taxes, calling it unseemly to earn $1 million and then find ways to avoid paying taxes on it. He didn't say how much he paid in taxes and never spoke publicly about his personal worth. In 2015, Forbes magazine estimated his fortune at $3 billion.

As one of the Rockefeller grandchildren, David belonged to the last generation in which the inherited family billions were concentrated in a few hands. The next generation, known as "the cousins," has more people.

Rockefeller was estimated to have met more than 200 rulers in more than 100 countries during his lifetime, and often was treated as if he were a visiting head of state.

Under Rockefeller, Chase — now JPMorgan Chase & Co. — was the first U.S. bank to open offices in the Soviet Union and China and, in 1974, the first to open an office in Egypt after the Suez crisis of 1956.

In his early travels to South Africa, Rockefeller arranged clandestine meetings with several underground black leaders. "I find it terribly important to get overall impressions beyond those I get from businessmen," he said.

But Rockefeller took a lot of heat for his bank's substantial dealings with South Africa's white separatist regime and for helping the deposed, terminally ill Shah of Iran come to New York for medical treatment in 1979, the move that triggered the 13-month U.S. embassy hostage crisis in Tehran.

Rockefeller maintained the family's patronage of the arts, including its long-standing relationship with New York's Museum of Modern Art, of which his mother had been a fervent patron. His private art collection was once valued at $500 million. The Rockefeller estate overlooking the Hudson River north of New York City is the repository of four generations of family history, including Nelson's art and sculpture collection.

One of the major efforts of Rockefeller's later years was directed at restoring family influence in the landmark Rockefeller Center, most of which had been sold in the 1980s to Japanese investors. He eventually organized an investor group to buy back 45 percent of the property.

His philanthropy and other activities earned him a Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in 1998.

Rockefeller and his wife, the former Margaret McGrath, married in 1940 and had six children — David Jr., Richard, Abby, Neva, Margaret and Eileen. His wife, an active conservationist, died in 1996.

A coffee shop in Washington has been luring customers with its a very controversial unique selling point - a bikini dress code for staff.

Bikini Beans Espresso, which also has branches in Arizona, employs baristas to make coffee in bikinis or underwear, while some have opted for just strategically-placed stickers to preserve their modesty.

The shop, owned by entrepreneur Carlie Jo, has been a huge success, earning a five-star rating on Yelp and tens of thousands of followers on its social media accounts.

We have followed the brand’s success from the very beginning and we noticed that your sneakers were more often sold out than available. How did that come about?
In order find out how our potential customers like the sneakers, we had to keep the production small. But pretty fast we realized that the concept of selling premium quality at a fair price is well received with the customers. The fact is that if you’re looking for sneakers at a price of 119,- Euro made in Portugal, hand-stitched, using Italian leather, you can keep searching for quite a long time.

What is the concept behind the brand?
Our concept is to produce fairly, high-quality and clean sneakers. Fair concerning their production, as well as their price. Working with our manufacturer in Portugal, we are able to achieve exactly that. We get many e-mails on a daily basis from customers, sending in positive feedback on our quality and service. This is particularly important for us and we’re striving to keep it this way in the future.

What was the biggest hurdle starting your brand?
To find the right manufacturer. Most of them work for the world’s best designers, so why would they want to work and support a newcomer. We really needed perseverance and a little bit of luck.

Why sneakers?
I’m a big sneakers fan myself and have been looking for clean models with small accents for a long time. Most of them either have a clean shoe, like the one from Common Projects or a shoe like the one from Zanotti, which is a little bit too shrill for my taste. I wanted something in-between. Small accents without appearing overloaded, that’s my style: fairly produced at fair prices.

French police say the man who was shot dead in Paris’ Orly airport this morning was the same one involved in an earlier shooting in the north of the city where a police officer was shot and injured.

Sky News reports that the man involved in both incidents was a radicalised Muslim on a terror watchlist.

The man, who was shot dead by police in the airport, had reportedly opened fire on three police officers, hitting a female officer in the head.

He then stole two cars and abandoned them before making his way to Orly airport and grabbing the gun from a counter-terrorism soldier.

Security forces followed the man and shot him dead and 3000 people were evacuated from the scene.

A police source described the man as ‘a radicalised Muslim known to intelligence services and the justice system’.

An incident involving the shooting of three police officers in Paris could be linked to the man who was shot dead in Orly airport this morning.

A security operation is continuing at the airport with bomb disposal experts checking for any possible accomplices.

Six laws on smoking and cigarettes are changing within weeks - this is what you need to know

New rules on cigarettes and tobacco come into force within weeks and if you're a smoker you will need to be aware of these changes.

Packs of 10 cigarettes will no longer be available as well as smaller packs of rolling tobacco and some flavoured tobacco.

The new laws actually came into effect in May last year, but shops and suppliers were given a year to adjust and get rid of old stock.

Now, the bans will fully come into force from May 20th, 2017.

Menthol cigarettes are also being phased out and they will be gone completely by 2020.

How is the law changing on cigarettes and tobacco?

You will not be able to buy smaller packets of cigarettes.
Smaller bags containing less than 30g of roll up tobacco will also be banned.
By May 21, the cheapest packet of cigarettes will cost £8.82
Menthol cigarettes, which experts say have often been aimed at beginner smokers, are being gradually phased out
Cigarette packets are set to be plain, with graphic images which show people the impact that tobacco has on health.
Some flavoured cigarettes and roll-your-own tobacco, including fruit, spice, herbs, alcohol, candy or vanilla, will also be made illegal

Why is this happening?

According to the charity Action on Smoking and Health (Ash), phasing out menthol cigarettes will deter younger people from smoking.

Amanda Sandford, of Ash, hopes the new rules will make smokers think twice about spending money on cigarettes when the price of a packet hits them hard in the pocket.

She told the Hull Daily Mail : "Cigarettes are already expensive and the price increase of cigarettes is a key factor in making people quit smoking.

"So by removing the packet of ten cigarettes this means people will have to find that extra money for a packet. It will hit poorer smokers harder, who are usually younger smokers.

"Paying £3 or £4 for a packet of ten cigarettes at the moment might not seem so much to people and still leave them with change in their pockets.

"But when you have to spend £6/£7, even £9, people may think, 'Do I really need this packet?'"

Why is the packaging changing?

The standardised "plain" cigarette packs will feature a stark health warning

Ms Sandford said: "This is to make smoking less appealing. There is evidence that from the changes that have already been made to packaging that it has made people quit smoking.

"And that is because people are faced with very harsh health images every time they pick up a pack of cigarettes. All packaging will have a plain green background with a very dominant health warning image on them."

The brand name will be written in a standard font, size and location and the new health warnings will cover 60 per cent of the pack.

Are menthol cigarettes better for you than standard cigarettes?

Ms Sandford said there is evidence to suggest that menthol cigarettes make it easier for people to smoke.

She said: "It is naturally hard to inhale smoke and for many the first time they smoke it is repugnant, but people persevere and that is when they become addicted.

"There is evidence that menthol cigarettes relax the airways and the flavour masks the harshness of the smoke, therefore younger people find it easier to smoke.

"However it is an absolute myth that menthol cigarettes are better for you. All cigarettes are harmful and menthol cigarettes are just as dangerous as normal cigarettes."

Does the new law affect e-cigarette flavours?

Ms Sandford said: "E-cigarettes are a different product and there is currently no plans in place to stop the different flavours that are available.

"People that use e-cigarettes are usually already smokers so if they are now using e-cigarettes that is much better for them.

"We know that they are not risk-free, however, and research is still going on into the long term effects of using them.

"Some flavours can be more problematic but it is not possible to say for sure at this time, which."

Armed police arrest man at NatWest bank in Birmingham

A man has been arrested by armed police officers at a branch of the NatWest bank in Northfield, Birmingham.

Earlier West Midlands police said they had sealed off the bank after reports that an armed man was inside.

They said a negotiator was at the scene.

The Birmingham Mail reported that it understood a number of staff members had been held hostage.

It added that it was unclear whether any customers were also being held.

Police closed part of Bristol Road South and sealed off an area outside the bank.

Before the arrest police said: "Police received an emergency call at 11.45am reporting a man with a firearm inside NatWest bank in Bristol Road South, Northfield.

"Response and firearms officers have contained the building and police negotiators are on scene."

A spokesman for the bank said: "We are aware of an ongoing incident at NatWest in Northfield, Birmingham and we are working with the police to solve this as soon as possible."

The man was arrested at around 1pm, There were no reports of any injuries in the incident.
