Really ?! Oh wow. Is my blog page still existing? I never had an idea it had. Its been almost 6 years that I last posted, Oh wait.. I last opened this website. I don't even know why I opened it now. However, after opening the page back again and going through my older posts, a new thought struck my mind. How good is it to come back?

In this 6 years, I forgot how to write a blog. Everything seems to be new here. Anyways, I don't want to push it to much now. I feel I am like a baby who wants to crawl for the first time. Let me be slow, let me be steady and let me try to focus.

I just feel like writing. Just anything that comes to my mind. All I feel like is to write. I don't have a clue if some one will even my read blog. But at this point, let me pen down what ever comes to my mind.

In this 6 years, my life had so much changes. Many twist and turns, ups and downs. It was a journey. A remarkable one. Few of my blogs may reflect it for a while. Nevertheless, I am back to writing.

Adolfo Farsari (1841–1898) was an Italian photographer based in Yokohama, Japan. Following a brief military career, including service in the American Civil War, he became a successful entrepreneur and commercial photographer. His photographic work was highly regarded, particularly his hand-coloured portraits and landscapes, which he sold mostly to foreign residents and visitors to the country. Farsari's images were widely distributed, presented or mentioned in books and periodicals, and sometimes recreated by artists in other media; they shaped foreign perceptions of the people and places of Japan and to some degree affected how Japanese saw themselves and their country. His studio – the last notable foreign-owned studio in Japan – was one of the country's largest and most prolific commercial photographic firms. Largely due to Farsari's exacting technical standards and his entrepreneurial abilities it had a significant influence on the development of photography in Japan.

Lost in the Windows 7 hype, Microsoft also released the beta of Windows Server 2008 R2, which is the companion to the client OS.

The company is aligning Windows Server 2008 R2, which briefly was referred to as Windows Server 7, and the client OS Windows 7 although Microsoft officials have not said if they will ship together.

But users who adopt both will get new security, network and other features although some of those will require network upgrades like implementing IPv6.

The R2 beta's integration with Windows 7 is high on the server's feature list. The integration points include a laundry list of features including DirectAccess, which lets Windows 7 PCs directly connect to intranet-based resources without needing a VPN connection.

While DirectAccess could eliminate VPN infrastructure, users will have to support IPv6 and IPSec on their network in order to access intranet resources.

Bill Laing, Microsoft's vice president of Windows Server and systems, said late last year that a company's entire network does not have to be IPv6 for DirectAccess to work. The client nodes and some of the network nodes for tasks such as authentication have to support IPv6. But he did add that users will also need to support IPSec.

"DirectAccess is a compelling feature, but there is infrastructure work you need to do and it will take time to roll this out," Laing said.

Other Windows 7 integration points with R2 include Branch Caching, which caches frequently used content on a branch-office network; a read-only Distributed File System (DFS) to improve branch office security, power management via Group Policy, BitLocker drive encryption for USB drives referred to as BitLocker To Go, and an Offline Folders feature for mobile users.

Unique to the server side, the R2 release includes support for Live Migration, a much anticipated feature add-on to Hyper-V. Not only will the feature help Microsoft match similar tools already available from VMware and open-source hypervisor platforms, Live Migration is key for availability and scalability in the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) support coming in R2 server.

Another key VDI component is Remote Desktop Services (RDS), formerly called Terminal Services, which allows users outside the intranet to connect to desktops and application running inside virtual machines on a server.

RDS includes the Remote Desktop Connection Broker, an upgrade to the Windows Server's Session Broker, an administrative set-up tool for both server-based virtualized desktops and traditional Terminal Services remote desktops.

Microsoft is building its VDI infrastructure on the back of the Connection Broker, Hyper-V and Virtual Machine Manager.

RDS fits in a loose grouping with Microsoft's other virtualized desktop software that is part of its popular Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP), which includes App-V and Enterprise Desktop Virtualization.

Also included are power management features called Core Parking, and deeper integration with PowerShell.

Microsoft is also working on application virtualization for the server, but it will not be part of R2 server. Also not in the release is technology Microsoft acquired when it bought Calista Technologies, which delivers 3D graphics, such as Vista Aero Glass, and multimedia support to virtualized desktops.

Oil drops 3 percent on economic gloom

Oil fell 3 percent on Thursday as deepening economic gloom and soaring crude inventories in the United States eclipsed geopolitical tensions that have put world supplies at risk.

The losses add to Wednesday's 12 percent drop, which marked the biggest daily percentage decline in the price of crude oil in more than seven years.

"This morning crude was trying to rally a bit, but more (economic) figures kept coming out from the U.S. and they were very bearish indeed," said Sucden trader Rob Montefusco.

U.S. crude for February delivery fell $1.30 to $41.33 a barrel by 11:47 am EST (1647 GMT) while London Brent crude fell $1.21 to $44.65.

Oil prices have dropped more than $100 a barrel since July as a global financial crisis cuts consumer and business energy demand, threatening to shrink total world oil usage for the first time in 25 years.

On Thursday, a U.S. government report showed the number of people remaining on jobless rolls last week rose to a 26-year high, even as new claims for unemployment benefits slipped. [ID:nN08526969]

Adding to the economic gloom, Wal-Mart Stores Inc, which accounts for a tenth of U.S. retail spending, reported a disappointing sales performance in December and cut its earnings outlook.

Oil had taken a battering Wednesday after the U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly report showed crude stocks up 6.7 million barrels, more than seven times the 900,000-barrel increase analysts expected.

"Brent is done going under $40, but WTI is a different animal altogether...crude stocks in the Midwest are very high because Cushing is a landlocked base with pipes that only go in one direction," Christopher Bellew of Bache Financial said.

Prices had gained some support from violence in Gaza, widening natural gas supply disruptions due to a row between Russia and Ukraine, and mounting evidence of OPEC's compliance with production cuts.

Russia and Ukraine failed to resolve a gas row at a meeting in Moscow but will continue talks to end the dispute which has choked off supplies to Europe, a senior Ukrainian gas official said on Thursday.

The dispute has cut heating to hundreds of thousands of people across the Balkans and hit supplies as far west as France and Germany as Europe faces freezing temperatures.

Signs that members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) are implementing the group's biggest-ever output cuts grew this week after Kuwait and Iran told customers of bigger January supply curbs.

The country's second largest software exporter, Infosys, on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of buying Satyam saying the IT major "will not touch any tainted company".

"We have no such interest in looking at buying Satyam... absolutely not... We will not touch any such tainted company that's very very clear," Infosys Founder and Chief Mentor Narayana Murthy said in an interview to a private television channel.

He said that the Satyam incident will not have an backlash on the Indian IT sector.

"Every company, certainly large companies, they have very close relationship with customers. The CEOs and senior management of the Indian industry have a close relationship with the senior management of the customer companies...

"We have a lot of transactions where we have demonstrated class, quality and integrity, so I don't think all of that will be destroyed just because of one bad apple, because there is one Satyam," the non-executive chairman of the company added.

Talking about the course of action following the Satyam fiasco, Murthy said the need of this hour for the regulators is to act decisively.

"The most important first step for regulatory authority of India is to get the bottom of this and take a swift and decisive action to bring the guilty to whatever punishment they deserve," he said.

Murthy said that the IT industry has to communicate to their investors and customers and all potential investors that Satyam is indeed an isolated case of misgovernance and must all be prepared to answer further questions so that the investors get an enhanced level of comfort.

Enthused by the assurance by the Finance Minister that the central bank would inject liquidity into the system as and when required and the concerted efforts of global central banks to tide over the current financial turmoil, the market has moved up sharply today.

The Sensex, which opened with a positive gap of 290 points at 10,817.68 this morning, is up with a massive gain of 707.74 points at 11,235.59 now. The Nifty is up 6.2% or 207.45 points at 3487.40.

Stock tips for investors

Bank stocks are leading the charge with the much battered ICICI Bank spearheading the rally. So sharp are the gains posted by stocks in that space that the BSE Bankex has shot up by nearly 11% today.

At 443, ICICI Bank is up by 22% now. State Bank of India and HDFC Bank have gained 6.15% and 9.25% respectively. IDBI Bank has vaulted 14.1% to Rs 74.10. Moser Baer has zoomed 15.35% to Rs 111. Aptech is up by around 13.3%. Rolta India has gained 12.65%. Financial Technologies, Tech Mahindra, Patni Computer Services, Mphasis, Oracle Financial Services and NIIT have also moved up sharply today.

Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (4.1%) have moved up on strong volumes. Bharti Airtel (8.6%) and ONGC (3.15%) have also moved up and contributed significantly to the market's sharp rise today.

A team of two students from Karunya University are among the 14 selected from all over the world by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to attend its annual meeting at Atlanta, the United States.

The team consisting of Susheel Michael Jones and M. Vinay, third year students of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, participated in the student contest organised under the aegis of the Fundamental Aeronautics Programme of the A eronautics Research Mission Directorate of the NASA. They had to design an aircraft for 2058.

Susheel and Vinay presented ideas for making an aircraft that will require less runway space, will be less in weight and cost but high in safety.

The project included ideas as to the material that will be used, the means by which it can be made safe and protected from being attacked, etc.

Though two teams – one from the U.S. and the other from Anna University, Madras – were judged winners, the other 12 teams (only two from India) have been recognised for their innovative ideas and invited to attend the meeting of the NASA for a special student session.

Susheel and Vinay will visit (accompanied by their faculty adviser C. Kezi Selva Vijila) Atlanta to attend the meeting which is scheduled from October 6 to 9.

Both of them have been in touch with other team members over e-mail. While Vinay wants to pursue higher studies in nanotechnology and go in for defence research, Susheel has plans to become an entrepreneur and manufacture environment-friendly products.

Google is working on a new service called Google Translation Center. Just a short while ago, we noticed that “center” had been added to Google’s robots.txt file, and now co-editor Tony Ruscoe discovered the link to the working frontpage... though logging in fails right now. According to the Google explanations on the frontpage and their product overview page, we can see this is meant to be a translation service which offers both volunteers and professional translators... and I suppose at least the professionals will want to get paid. In that regards, the service is in the field of sites like Click2Translate.com (a service by the company which Tony works for, incidentally, and which I’m often using for some of my sites).

Here’s what’s printed as a description on the service’s frontpage:

The project creation page. You can provide fields like project name (e.g. “FAQ page”), description, due date and owners. You can set the source and target language, upload a local file to be translated, and assign a translator and a reviewer. “If a translator accepts, you should receive your translated content back as soon as it’s ready,” Google says (note the “if” part, a potentially important difference to paid-only translation services).

This is what Google calls the translator inbox in their screenshot file name. It looks like the overview page for those approaching the Google Translation Center as a translator. Google says, “Passionate about bringing content into your language? Browse through Google Translation Center to find open translation requests into your language. Accept translation requests and use Google translation tools to provide quick, high-quality translations.” In this view, you can find out the number of assignments, and the completion status for each.

The part Google calls the translator workbench. In this view, the translator sees the source text and the translation in progress side-by-side. An option on top toggles auto-saving. A third column offers a couple of helper tools for the translation, like a revision history, a glossary, or a history of previous translations.

More than an all-in-one stop for paid translations as some of the competing services in this field, the Google Translation Center looks like it aims to be a marketplace coordinator and tool provider. Just how Google could make money with this is another question. Google often goes for ads; in this system, one might think getting commissions for paid jobs would be an option, but there’s a part in the terms and conditions of the service which makes me wonder if there will be such a thing – Google says (my emphasis):

I’m also curious if volunteers will get paid, too, as one might think it’s not like everyone is waiting to do free translations... unless they identify with a site or some content re-use is allowed (like an open source project, perhaps, or a Creative Commons licensed article). If Google decides to provide a rating system, though, then volunteering for projects may have the side-effect of increasing one’s status within the service.

Another interesting aspect is how Google will handle the service’s feature to match current translations with previous ones. Tony says, “This sounds like what the industry calls a ’Translation Memory’. Usually, the client would pay for a translation memory and own it since they paid for the translations.” Tony adds that if Google may plan to add something like a “global Translation Memory,” then this could raise the questions whether or not customers end up paying for pro translators to find their translation memory be re-used by other companies. Another issue of discussion will likely be the translation quality, by and large; just imagine someone volunteering to sneak in insults or spam. From Google’s FAQ on this:

No. Translations created in Google Translation Center are purely between the translation requester and the translators.>>

And as the terms of service argue, “Google will not” be “involved in resolving any disputes between you and any third party participant(s) related or arising out of your use of Google Translation Center”. But let’s wait and see. Judging from my past translation jobs as a webmaster – give the service a data file containing all your content strings, plug it back in later on and suddenly have a multi-language website – this is definitely an interesting and highly useful field. Right now, according to the FAQ, “Google Translation Center is in limited release through Google’s Trusted Tester Program” which gives “friends and family members of Google employees a chance to test-drive our early beta, prior to release. Later, anyone can sign up to request and provide translations through Google Translation Center.”

The "Chikku bukku railaye" and "Kuchi kuchi rakamma" kid is all grown up. And how!
GV. Prakash is now the most talked about, upcoming music director in Tamil Cinema.

A full-fledged music director at 19, G.V. Prakash now has big names such as Shankar Mahadevan and Alka Yagnik singing his tunes.No big deal, some may say, about this talent whose uncle is none other than A.R. Rahman. But few know that Prakash is also a Grade 8 gold medallist in solo piano from Trinity College, London. And that he has worked as a keyboard programmer with leading music composers such as Bharadwaj, Vidyasagar and Harris Jeyaraj.

A mop of unruly hair keeps falling on his face — much like the hairstyle Rahman sported earlier — and Prakash has an angelic smile to boot. He prefers to work his magic when the rest of the world sleeps. And like his talented uncle, Prakash also started by composing jingles.

"He was performing at a cultural festival in school when officials from the School of Audio Engineering invited him to join their institution," .He promptly quit Standard 11 to pursue a diploma in sound engineering.While studying at SAE, he worked on Bharadwaj's "Autograph", "Jay Jay", "Vasoolraaja MBBS" and the animated film "Buddha."

He then worked with Vidyasagar on "Kana Kandaen," "Ji" and the Telugu movie "Bangaram." He also did some jingles for HDFC, Radio Mirchi (for their first and second anniversaries) and Nokia.With Harris Jeyaraj, he worked on "Arasaktchi," "Anniyan" and "July Kaatru."

He was actually only the keyboard programmer for "Anniyan," but Shankar wanted him to sing too and that is how he ended up singing Kaadhal Yaanai."Prakash then worked on "Swades," "Kisna," "The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey," "Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha," "Rang de Basanti," "Netaji Subhas Chandra Bo se — The Forgotten Hero" and "Anbe Aaruyire" during the one-and-a-half years he was with Rahman.

"Rahman actually never knew he was a keyboard player. Only when he started working did he come to know about this. He then called him, heard his showreel and took him in immediately."

Director Vasantha Balan was also impressed with his showreel and signed him on for "Veyyil.Director Shankar's Veyyil has been declared a hit. It has not only brought fame and stardom to director Vasantha Balan and Pasupathy, but also to young music composer G V Prakash.

" While working on the film, Prakash was offered "Auto," directed by husband-wife team Pushkar and Gayatri. "Veyyil has a rural feel and the songs are set in different periods. One reflects the music of the 1970s, another of the nineties, and another is contemporary. But Auto is set a jolly, fast-paced movie set in Chennai. The music reflects the city's colours.

" He is doing the background score and a song for Sirish Kunder's debut Hindi film, "Jaan-e-Man," a Tamil-Telugu film "Roman Letter - III" directed by Milind Rao and produced by Ram Gopal Varma, and a fusion album with ace percussionist Sivamani.

GV Prakash’s music is 99.99% similar to Rahman’s style. While Rahman’s first movie Roja was a major departure from the ‘then prevailant and popular’ Illaiyaraja’s style (which is why ARR’s became big and has lasted this long), Its a wonder how big of a change/difference GV prakash’s music is from current day composers including his own uncle.

The new kid on the block is having loads of fun. "he met different people, and no person has similar ideas. They came to him with different perspectives, different situations. So all his songs have different flavours."With his father helping him handle finances, he is setting up a recording studio. "The work is almost over, and Divine Labs will be opened soon."

Roller skates would be an ideal present for G.V Prakash, who turns 21 this year. Squeezing an interview in between an exhaustive meeting with director Selvaraghavan for Aaryirathil Oruvan (in which he has replaced Yuvan Shankar Raja) and a composing session with lyricist Vairamuthu for the IPL’s Chennai Super Kings’ theme song, the young music director is on the go 24 by 7.

Prakash has composed songs for the much-awaited Kushelan. Big project indeed, composing for the Superstar at this young an age.

Vitamins are nutrients that allow chemical reactions that lead to the creation of bone, tissue and muscle. During growth, a child needs vitamins that are in what he eats. Nutrients and the vitamins in them are the only building blocks he has. The benefits of vitamins amongst other is to be a fundamental building block. In adults vitamins maintain good health. Vitamins ensure the functioning of the nervous system, vitamins also allow the body to use calories as energy, process proteins carbs and fats.

The human organism requires the benefits of 13 vitamins. These vitamins are listed below. They are generally classified according to 2 criteria. The first according to toxicity and the second whether they are soluble in water or in fat. Water soluble vitamins do not stay in the body for very long, thus it is required to bring daily vitamins in the daily diet.

The human body can store its vitamins anywhere between 2 weeks and 1 year depending on the the specifics of that vitamin. The water soluble vitamins have the short end of the stick as they tend to need more regular replenishing. When the respective levels of vitamins drop critically, then deficiencies start to appear. "We're clear about not giving them (US doctors) permission to bring Dede to the US," health ministry spokeswoman Lily Sriwahyuni Sulistiyowati was quoted as saying by Warta Kota daily.

"Moreover, people like Dede, who live in small villages, don't want to be taken away, especially to give blood samples. Normally village people don't easily give foreigners permission to test their blood," she said.

The spokeswoman declined to give an immediate comment when contacted by AFP.

Anthony Gaspari, a dermatologist from the University of Maryland, examined Dede as part of the documentary. He believes the massive growths are a combination of the human papilloma virus, which causes warts, and a genetic disorder that means his immune system is too weak to fight them off.

Gaspari told AFP from the United States that he was disappointed by the reported health ministry decision but said it would not stop his initial plan to treat his condition.

Gaspari said he was in negotiations with a US pharmaceutical company to provide Dede with an ongoing supply of vitamin A, which would hopefully boost his immune system and hinder the growth of the warts.

"My initial plan would be to send medication to Indonesia to a local doctor to administer," he said. "If it doesn't work I won't have any choice but to try to get him over here."

18 bombs defused in Surat - 3 suspects detained

Gujarat's second largest city would have been sucked into another round of tragedy had the terrorists succeeded in blowing up what appears to be at least three dozen bombs — between the incendiary material found in WagonRs on Sunday and the assembled bombs discovered in the densely populated city on Tuesday. Surat is home to a Rs 70,000 crore diamond industry.

In a day of “battle with bombs,” the Surat police unearthed 18 live bombs and its bomb squad succeeded in defusing all of them, averting a major tragedy in the second largest commercial center of Gujarat.

It was the third consecutive day live bombs and explosives were found in Surat. As panic spread in the diamond and art silk city, all schools and colleges were closed and children sent back home. Shutters of cinema halls and shopping malls were also downed. These places will remain closed on Wednesday too.

Whether the terrorists were playing a hide-and-seek game with the police or all the bombs were planted simultaneously was not clear. But the bombs were found almost one after another from day-break till evening.

Of the18 bombs, as many as 10 were found in the labour dominated Varacha Road and Katargam areas alone. In Saturday’s blasts also, the labour dominated old city areas were targeted. The bombs and the explosive-laden cars were recovered from Varacha Road or nearby areas in the city in the last two days. As if throwing a direct challenge to the police, two of the bombs were found right in front of the Labheswar police chowky and Sardarpura police stations. Two bombs were planted in the diamond market adjacent to the Varacha Road, one in the Radhakrishna textile market and two on a fly-over.

Surprisingly, unlike in Ahmedabad and most other places, the bombs were not totally concealed. Most of the bombs were “boat-shaped” and wrapped in coloured papers. They were kept at strategic points, including behind street hoardings or near garbage dumps.

The entire day the police and civic authorities repeatedly urged people to maintain peace and patience and cooperate with them.

Minister of State for Home Amit Shah also appealed to people not to panic or spread rumours.

He said the police were on maximum alert to protect the lives and property of people.

In Ahmedabad, life, by and large, was normal.

However, in one incident, panic-stricken parents rushed to a school in Chandlodiya locality to get their wards following rumour of a bomb in a near-by area.

Let me introduce myself. I am a manager in an IT company and we recruit from your college. Actually, “recruit” would be an understatement.

We put up a “Tresspassers will be recruited” notice and pretty much herd in anybody who pays attention to us. But I am afraid we are having problems of late. Most of the students from your college seem to expect the following in our offices:

1. Separate staircases and elevators for boys and girls.
2. Separate work areas for ladies and gents
3. Separate dining areas for ladies and gents
4. They decline to shake hands with our clients many of whom happen to have 2 X chromosomes.
5. Iron grill creating separate seating areas for men and women in buses.
6. Separate mouse pads for girls and boys
7. Your boys also refuse to work on code written by girls, and in our company, I’m afraid team work is critical
8. We have video conferences, and your boys refuse to look into the camera because they are afraid that they might accidentally make eye contact with girls.
9. Some of them are complaining to our security demanding separate corridors and coffee machines for boys and girls.
10. Their productivity is very poor unless we make our security officers stand around in the work areas. Apparently, they are so used to “squads” that they find life without them impossible.

There are only two genders in Homo Sapiens society and at some point or the other, it is fairly inevitable that some interaction between them is required. So I earnestly request you to please upgrade your college rules to a level slightly above Medieval Spanish Inquisition so that IT companies can continue to flourish in this city.

M-Zero is a car concept inspired by BMW M series which also consider Mercedes Benz (as the backlight) and DB9 Aston Martin (the global silhouette of is definitely inspired by the DB9). Maël Oberkampf, the designer of M-Zero actually tried to make a model which could be considered as the equivalent of the R8 from Audi. And the result is M-Zero, a car concept that is the “synthesis” between the actual BMW design and a high an performance car which could become the most powerful model of the BMW legacy. The exterior looks great, very BMW style, but we are hoping to be able to see the interior design, we bet it’s futuristic.

Today's bomb blast is in Jharkhand - 5 Injured

Today there was a bomb blast in Jharkhand that has taken place in the early morning.At least five persons were injured in the bomb blast near a bus stand in Godda on Sunday, police said.

"The blast took place at around 5:15 am near the bus stand," Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh said.

The injured were rushed to a hospital where there conditions are stated to be out of danger, he said.

"It was a low-intensity blast," Singh said, adding the police is investigating the matter and a search operation was launched to identify the culprits.
