<strong>Consul General Lochman talks about U.S.-Canada relations with local Rotary group</strong><br/>
Consul General Laura Lochman spoke to members of the Calgary West Rotary Club about the Obama administration&#39;s foreign policy goals and the importance of the U.S.-Canada relationship, especially with respect to cross-border trade, military cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, energy security and protecting the environment. In her address to club members, the Consul General remarked that the United States and Canada enjoy a strong bond based on shared values and mutual respect. &#39;The underlying truth of the U.S. Canadian relationship is the depth of its interlinkedness,&#39; Lochman said.

  <title>21 August 2009 - Ramadan Kareem
</title>
    <link>http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/</link>
  <description>21 August 2009 - As the new crescent moon ushers in Ramadan, the President extends his best wishes to Muslim communities in the United States and around the world.
Each Ramadan, the ninth month on the lunar calendar, Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset for 29 or 30 days. Fasting is a tradition in many religious faiths and is meant to increase spirituality, discipline, thankfulness, and consciousness of God&#39;s mercy. Ramadan is also a time of giving and reaching out to those less fortunate, and this summer, American Muslims have joined their fellow citizens in serving communities across the country. Over the course of the month, we will highlight the perspectives of various faiths on fasting and profile faith-based organizations making real impacts in American cities and towns.

  <title>President Obama's 4th of July Message
</title>
    <link>http://ottawa.usembassy.gov/content/embconsul/pdfs/Fourth_of_July_Message.pdf</link>
  <description>Today, we are called upon to remember not only the day our country was born, but also the indomitable spirit of the first American citizens who made that day possible. We are called to remember how unlikely it was that our American experiment would succeed at all; that a small band of patriots would declare independence from a powerful empire; and that they would form, in the new world, what the old world had never known - a government of, by, and for the people.

  <description>A New Beginning - I am honored to be in the timeless city of Cairo, and to be hosted by two remarkable institutions. For over a thousand years, Al-Azhar has stood as a beacon of Islamic learning, and for over a century, Cairo University has been a source of Egypt&#39;s advancement. Together, you represent the harmony between tradition and progress. I am grateful for your hospitality, and the hospitality of the people of Egypt. I am also proud to carry with me the goodwill of the American people, and a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country: assalaamu alaykum.

  <title>July 2, 2008: Calgary Consul General celebrates American Independence with &quot;A Salute to California&quot;</title>
  <link>http://calgary.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=about&amp;subsection1=headlines_archive&amp;document=salute_california</link>
  <description>On July 2nd, Consul General Tom Huffaker and his wife Claire hosted hundreds of guests at their residence to celebrate the 232nd anniversary of American Independence Day. This year's theme, &quot;A Salute to California&quot;, focused the spotlight on the Consul General's home state: DJs played tunes by California artists, the food had a decidedly California flair, and the dress was &quot;California casual&quot;. The event was held on the 2nd this year so as not to coincide with the first day of the Calgary Stampede on the 4th , and it turned out to be the perfect substitution, as we learned that the Declaration of Independence was actually completed and presented to the Continental Congress on July 2nd , and it took another two days to collect all the signatures on the United States' most important document.
