His papers are held at the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library at Texas Tech University and Texas State University–San Marcos.

THE NEW GUARD 2012 contest readers are looking forward to reading your work! You can submit online via our submissions manager or by postal mail with a check for the entry fee, which is $15 for either contest. Contest winners and all finalists get two free copies of TNG, and each submission will be carefully considered for publication. Final judging is blind.

We accept .doc or similar files–no PDFs, please. We do pay strict attention to word and line count. TNG accepts previously unpublished work only. Any size print run or online publication (including blogs and/or social networking) disqualify your entry. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, provided we're notified upon publication elsewhere. If we accept your story or poem for publication, we trust you will remove that story or poem from all other contests upon our acceptance of your work.

TNG retains standard first publication rights; all rights immediately revert to the writer upon publication. Please note that TNG cannot return manuscripts. We are not presently accepting submissions aside from our contests.

http://www.newguardreview.com/

Poetry In Motion Sonnet Writing Contest - Deadline: 2012/02/29

Deadline: 2012/03/01
Fee: $ 25
Prize: $ 1,000 - Publication (magazine) - Publication (website)

Thank you for your interest in entering our first Poetry-in-Motion Sonnet Writing Contest. Geoffrey Owens, of The Cosby Show, and RisingStar31 Productions teamed up to launch an initiative which showcases the literary works of talented writers. This first contest is organized to coincide with the holidays and explore the theme, “Holidays Past and Present.”

The writer should submit one sonnet (which commonly consists of 14 lines, each of which has ten syllables written in iambic pentameter). Writers, however, can submit a poem that is similar to a sonnet, even if it’s not entirely structured within a Shakespearean, or otherwise, classical form. A poem with a powerfully inspiring message will still be given consideration.

The winner is awarded a $1,000 Prize and publication in our future RisingStar31 e-Magazine and Web site.

Geoffrey, a Shakespearean actor and drama instructor, has created an exciting new selection of on-line greeting cards with classical sonnets, and brings a wealth of experience to the venture. He will be the judge who selects the winning writer from ten finalists.

Guidelines & Information

Eligibility: Poets writing in English, who either have or haven’t already published a poem. Simultaneous submissions are fine, however, please inform us if there’s a change in your poem’s status.

Opening Date: Thanksgiving Eve (November 23, 2011)

Deadline: New Year’s Eve (Entries must be postmarked by midnight, December 31, 2011)
The deadline was extended to February 29, 2012 (Special Leap Year Date)

Entry Fee: $25.00 (to cover reading fees)

Announcement: Winner will be notified by March 31, 2012.
Check the Web site for winner information, or send a SASE with the wording “Results.”

Submissions: Electronic submissions are encouraged, however, writers can mail poems, along with a check or money order to:

RisingStar31 Productions
P.O. Box 53371
Sarasota, FL 34232

Mailed entries must include a cover sheet with writer’s name, address, e-mail and phone number and be attached to the poem. Please do not place your name on the sheet with the poem. Poems should be printed, double-spaced, with 10-12 font size. Send only a copy; do not mail your only copy, as all materials will be recycled unless return is requested with SASE.

On-line submissions: You may submit your entry by Clicking Below:
Submit to RisingStar31 Productions

http://www.risingstar31.com/
http://www.risingstar31.com/contest.html
