‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore by John Ford
Teatralny Koufar: Trade Union Palace of Culture, Minsk, Belarus – October 2009

A passion fruit in a mixed buffet at the Koufar student theatrefestival in Minsk.

I was first acquainted with this play when studying Antonin Artaud in the 80’s and had looked forward to seeing it on stage ever since. The Bristol group did not disappoint me. They gave justice to this well known controversial classic, with great courage and artistry. The sensuousness and the violence in the play were well balanced, it was clear, beautiful, and touching. The well cast young actors used the bare stage well, filling it in three dimensions, with action, with passion, and with a superb mature mastering of John Ford’s 17th century text: impressive. All this added to our understanding of, and compassion with, Giovanni’s and Annabella’s complicated love. Splendid direction combined with a sensitive group dynamic and intention, made it into one of the most memorable experiences at the Minsk festival. Congratulations.

‘Tis Pity to Tour

ITC’s award winning production of ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore will be touring this year. Following a run at The Salisbury Playhouse in March, the Company will be heading to Quebec to take part in an International Student Theatre Festival in April. To round of a spectacular year, the Company will then be taking on the internationally renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe. We hope you can join us somewhere along the way!

Success in Minsk

After a successful run at The Redgrave Theatre in Bristol, UWE Independent Theatre Company (UWE ITC) has won two awards for its inaugural production – Tis a Pity She’s a Whore at the Teatralny Koufar International Student Theatre Festival (28 September – 3 October) in Minsk, Belarus.

The Best Actress award went to Jessica Bayly, with Victoria Aubrey-Rees picking up Best Supporting Actress.

ACTORS WANTED!!!!!!!

We are a couple of mediapractice students looking for four main actors and a lot of extras to help usout on our third year film.

The film will be a short dark crime drama. We are currently looking for two girls aged between 20 – 25 and two boys 24 – 28. We will be filming at the end of February and we would very much appreciate your help!!
