How To Fix Full-Screen Flash Videos in Linux & Firefox (or Swiftfox)

By default, Firefox (or Swiftfox) crashes when trying to view a full-screen video on say... YouTube. At least for me it used to crash until I found a fix and from what I've understand it's got something to do with the graphic card drivers and it's affecting both nVidia and ATI. If that is the case for you also, you may want to read on.

Sound Muted After Restart in Ubuntu (Gnome) Fix

I've been having some problems recently with the sound in Ubuntu Linux (Jaunty). One of the issues is that after each restart / boot-up, when I log-in to Gnome, the sound is muted even though it wasn't when I shut down the computer, so I searched for a fix (I've read it's a Gnome issue) and found one and I will share it with you, as there must be some other people having this problem with PulseAudio (i'm not sure if it's a PulseAudio problem though).

OpenShot Is A Great Linux Non-Linear Video Editor

I'll start with a quote from the author:

"I have a simple mission: To create an open-source, non-linear video editor for Linux. Many have tried and fallen before me, but for some reason I feel compelled to try myself. I am documenting my journey in this blog for all to read. It will be a dangerous journey, and I might not make it back alive. Hold on tight, and enjoy the ride! By the way, I'm calling this project OpenShot Video Editor!"

OpenShot has too many great features to list them all here but here are a few of them:

Support for many video, audio, and image formats (based on FFmpeg)

Gnome integration (drag and drop support)

Multiple tracks

Clip resizing, trimming, snapping, and cutting

Video transitions with real-time previews

Compositing, image overlays, watermarks

Title templates, title creation

Solid color clips (including alpha compositing)

Support for Rotoscoping / Image sequences

Drag and drop timeline

Frame stepping, key-mappings: J,K, and L keys

Video encoding (based on FFmpeg)

Install XFCE4 Screenshooter 1.6.0 in Ubuntu Jaunty (From a .deb File)

We already presented the best screenshot application for Linux (for me at least): XFCE4 Screenshooter 1.6.0 (the article also explains how to make it the default screenshot tool in Ubuntu). But At the time I wrote the post, there was no .deb package available for Ubuntu so you had to compile it. Now there is such a package, so there is no need to compile it

Beyond Ubuntu: Canonical Pursues New Revenue Streams

At first glance, Canonical is an operating system company — built around Ubuntu Linux. But take a closer look at Canonical’s moves during the first half of 2009, and you’ll find the company has increasingly bet its revenue stream on cloud, online and consulting/support services. Here’s some perspective.

Am I suggesting that Canonical is abandoning potential support revenue from ...

Full Article

Krusader is a twin-panel file manager for KDE which has been around for around seven years and was always a good alternative to Konqueror since KDE3 days. Its interface resembles the one of the popular file manager Midnight Commander for the console. Codenamed 'Mars Pathfinder', 2.0 is the first KDE4 stable release, bringing lots of new features and coming with the entire interface ported to Qt4 libraries.

5 Useful Add-Ons for Firefox 3.5

A while ago I put up this article, reviewing 5 so-called 'essential' add-ons for Firefox. To continue in the same manner in this second part, here are 5 add-ons updated for Firefox 3.5 which can prove useful. Maybe not the most popular, but they definitely deserve a try.

StumbleUpon
I think there is no social community user who didn't hear about StumbleUpon.com, or at least came across a mention of it on the web. StumbleUpon allows you to share cool links, make friends, drive traffic to your website, rate website and write reviews. It is a huge, growing community for exchanging whatever is cool and hot on the web. This add-on is a powerful extension for Firefox which will bring the entire StumbleUpon experience integrated in your browser. It provides a navigation bar just below the location bar, it allows to log in and like/dislike website. For StumbleUpon users, this is a must-have.
Install StumbleUpon from the Mozilla add-ons page
StumbleUpon homepage
