Music Monday ~ Eurovision Galore

Music Monday

As many of you UCB Readers know I LOVE EUROVISION, and this week sees the 57th annual festival, where participants from 42 countries come together with songs, and try to win the contest. The UK has done poorly over recent years, coming 5th in 2009 has been our best position, but this song was the last UK entry to win the contest, way back in 1997.

Katrina & The Waves ~ Love Shine A Light

The UK rock band are mostly famous for their single “Walking On Sunshine” which reached number 8 in the UK chart in 1985, and they represented the United Kingdom at the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest, and won it with this catchy little ditty “Love Shine A Light”. This single got to Number 3 in the UK charts.

Loreen ~ Euphoria

Loreen hails from Sweden and won their Melodifestivalen this year to represent her country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. This song is the bookies current favourite to win the contest, and I totally agree. This dance number was written by Thomas G:Son & Peter Bostrom and reached Number 1 in the Swedish Music Charts upon it’s 2nd week of release.

Jedward ~ Waterline

Now don’t go changing pages just yet. And yes I’m REALLY sorry for putting a Jedward song on the site, but wait! You might be surprised. The Irish twins are representing Ireland again at this year’s contest with this track, which after listening to it, sound like it a Busted song. The song is due to perform last during the 1st semi-final this Tuesday (22nd May 2012). Watch out for it, because if they go through to the final on Saturday 26th May 2012, they could be the dark horse of the contest. So, press play, close your eyes and enjoy.

Engelbert Humperdinck ~ Love Will Set You Free

2nd Music Monday post featuring the “Dinck”, his song “Release Me” was used last September. The BBC announced in March this year that the 78 year old crooner would represent the United Kingdom at this year’s contest in Baku Azerbaijan. The song has automatically qualified for the final, and Engelbert is due to perform first when the final kicks off on Saturday night. “Love Will Set You Free” was written by Martin Terefe & Sacha Skarbek.
