John M Knight - The concept for splitting the browser isn't new. There have been corporate solutions to the bandwidth issue since the mid 1990's. That's not to say that Amazon might not have something good to wow the world with. Your last comment though concerns me a bit. If all Amazon is doing is essentially combining all the dis-separate items that make up a modern "web page", which are in fact, legion - then compress them then the size of the back-end isn't really the advantage. The EC2 back-end, while having massive storage capability is being trumpeted on it's computational power, which is impressive. Storage is cheap and many companies have the space to handle the load. What Amazon has is the ability to crunch that data and use it for the customer's benefit and theirs. Amazon will obviously be able to extend their customer tracking and professionalization ability beyond their and their partners domains with the Silk Browser. I just want to know if ALL my data is going through their processing algorithms? I know I don't want someone seeing all my data.

slrman - I get phishing attempt every month, sometimes more often. Fortunately, they are easily recognizable and I have in my address file, the abuse, or similar address for sites such as Paypal, banks, credit cards, etc. Silly, though it is, I get attempts for credit cards I don't have or banks where I have never had an account. I forward them, with full headers, anyway. I consider it doing my part to make the spammers lives miserable.

Ron_Xy - This fight for InterDigital patent portfolios is obvious. I wonder, who will be the winner after the auction? Google buys Motorola, Apple plan to invest in Sharp, Qualcomm has a good portfolio of patents. So Nokia?

Max - These are all great points, however that last one is somewhat of a thorny issue. Traditional corporate culture has a way of stymying innovation to a grinding halt. Google has always maintained a Montessori school style culture and an attitude of taking care of its people that not only has made it highly successful, but also serves as a benchmark for how a corporation should treat its people. I would hope that Larry and Sergey would maintain this corporate ethos.

jujube - Phones are becoming more like computers every day. If the trend continues they'll become as hackable as computers are. Who needs a phone that can be rendered inoperable by a virus/hack when you're stranded at the side of a road? Nah, give me a simple, reliable basic phone.
