One month of festival mood is going to be over in India. It’s really tough to say bye bye to these splendid festivals for one year. We celebrate these festivals every year but fun and enjoyment remain the same.

I am fortunate to have a spiritual and secular family. I had best parents and siblings who cared a lot in my childhood. My parents taught me to celebrate each festival with same respect and feel.

I think no religion teaches us to hate others. I felt the same sweetness in Bengali rasgulla and Rajasthani Lapsi. I still remember Durga puja holidays of school days. This festival is being celebrated in Bihar and Bengal with same enthusiasm. We used to wear ethnic outfits and visited almost each and every pandal of our city. I never thought that being a punjabi I should hate other castes.

I had spent most of my life in different cities , learning the culture of many states. I don’t belong to any particular part of India .

I think the reason is to be born and brought up in different cultures has made me secular. If you are born in a city and spend whole life in same atmosphere, it reflects in your thoughts and opinions.

It’s really important to travel and meet people of different religions and states if you want to grow.

Festivals change our mood and make us learn to break the same old boring routine.

I wish these festivals lasted forever. Lights, sweets, bling and colours made me full of zeal. Sickness of mind vanishes when you worship Gods and Goddesses in different forms.

I have met many people who are not ready to learn anything new and want to spend their whole life living with the same old pattern. These type of people are responsible for the gender discrimination and racism all over the world. Male superiority and other thoughts are brain child of a particular class who don’t understand the meaning of peace. They are fighting an endless fight with themselves. I had heard many stories of evil monsters and brave princes in my childhood. These are not merely stories, you can still easily find these characters all around.

It’s important to remember the goodness of hearts and forgetting the bad incidents. Festivals play an important role in our life in every way. At least my life get inspired by the brightness of festivals.

I see a different India in festival season, specially Diwali is the festival which every Indian celebrates with same enthusiasm.

Please tell Goddess Lakshmi to travel the whole world everyday so that each and everyday can be celebrated like a festival.

I wish all of you a bright and prosperous year ahead which illuminate your heart with kindness and love for every existing living being of this planet.

A foetus was found today at a drainage near Ashoka Cinema, Surajpole. A set of passerby spotted the foetus and immediately informed Police about the same.

Surajpole police reached the spot on receiving the information. The foetus was taken to MB Hospital where it was placed in mortuary.

There is no information available yet on the gender of the foetus. Also, there is no information on whether the foetus was thrown away after it died or whether it died after being thrown. Post-mortem is likely to yield some insights into this.

The frequency with which foetuses are being discarded in a small city like Udaipur makes one to wonder whether humanity in the city has hit rock bottom!

This Diwali was celebrated as a protest by farmers of a village near Jaipur, as they raised their voices against the governments alleged forced land acquisition.  Neendar village near Jaipur was witness to a unique silent Diwali as the protest site was lighted using hundreds of earthen lamps, which the farmers lit around pits, while the farmers themselves sat inside the pits.  The lighted lamps kept the spirits of the farmers high, while they were protesting.

The Zameen Samadhi Satyagraha, the name given to the protest site, is in the news for more that the last two weeks, where nearly 1000 farmers, including 500 female farmers, have gone on a hunger strike, following un-concluded talks with the Jaipur Development Authority.  The talks were held to protest the land acquisition by the Rajasthan government, which seeks to develop housing colonies on the acquired land, in order to earn revenue.  The farmers in that area have said that they will be rendered landless and subsequently homeless if the forcible land acquisition is allowed to happen.

Dr. Nagendra Shekhawat, Convenor or the Farmers’ Sangharsh Samiti, said that the next round of talks will only happen at the higher ministerial level, as the JDA has failed to respond, and even the government is non-responsive to their demands.  The farmers have said that they will not give any land as they do not have land to give and have demonstrated that they will bury themselves in the land, rather than give it away.

GRIPPING scenes of a dog being rescued while it struggles to survive at the bottom of a well are bringing tears to the eyes of animal lovers around the world. More than 3 million people have watched the tense footage as the terrified dog slowly clambers on to slippery rocks in a despairing attempt to stay alive.

With only minutes to spare, a brave animal rescuer puts on a hard-hat, rigs up safety harness and lowers himself 70ft into the murky waters to save the petrified animal.

Footage of the rescue was placed on You Tube this week by Animal Aid Unlimited to universal applause.

The charity, based at Udaipur, described how the terrified dog seemed to understand how her rescuer, known only as Ganpat, was there to “make her desperate wish come true”.

Since its foundation in 2002, Animal Aid Unlimited has worked with the people of Udaipur to rescue more than 45,000 injured or ill dogs, cows, donkeys, birds and cats, and its latest operation highlights how emergency teams are ready to respond to any creature in need.

The tense video shows the golden-coated dog looking up with troubled eyes, her paws repeatedly slipping on the damp rocks while trying to stay afloat.

As she forlornly doggie-paddles, the camera focuses of Ganpat, wearing a blue hardhat and carrying what appears to be a giant fishing net.

Explaining what happened, the charity says: “It looked like she’d been struggling in the water, trying to stay alive, for hours. She repeatedly grasped with claws we later found were bleeding, trying desperately to hold on to the only jagged piece of rock she could find.

“She was rapidly losing her strength, and as her rescuer Ganpat descended the 70 foot well, we could see that she was minutes away from giving in to her exhaustion.

“When he reached the water she clearly seemed to understand that this is the man who will save her life…”

After being lowered into the water, Ganpat takes little time in gently easing the dog into the net and is then hauled back to the surface by rope to be rushed by motorbike back to the charity’s headquarters so she can undergo veterinary checks.

Apart from bleeding paws, the dog appears to be none the worse for an escapade that could easily have claimed her life. The video finishes with the dog relaxing and being comforted with gentle strokes.

Animal lovers have applauded the rescue operation, with one viewer echoing the words of the millions who have watched the YouTube video, by saying: “That broke my heart, seeing her clinging to the wall. You could see her desperation in eyes. She was so frightened.

“Thank you all for being there when she needed help. You are all wonderful and devoted to rescuing animals. God bless you all.”

Describing its work, the charity says by providing a rescue line and shelter for animals in need, it is also inspiring the community to help.

The charity said: “Action that though small at first, maybe just a phone call on our helpline, is the first step for someone on the road of becoming the person that animals desperately need.

“Our ultimate goal is equality and protection of all animals and a complete end to the use and abuse of animals.

“We are working for the day that every dog, donkey, cow, pig, fish and mouse can live their lives in freedom.”
