The selection procedure for the students of Udaipur to one of the top business schools, IBS will be carried out on 24 Feb.at Hotel Vishnupriya. The students will also get an overall view of the management courses and guidance for career planning on the basis of individual capacity. There will be a 45 minute session for question and answer.

The entire selection process will be carried out in three sessions:

Session A: 10:00 to 11:30 am

Session B: 12:30 to 2: 00 pm

Session C: 3: 00 to 4: 30 pm

IBS provides excellent educational inputs and infrastructural facilities. The institute provides two years full time course that prepares students for successful corporate career by Case Study based teaching.

Thought the Government has introduced various innovative ‘yojnas’ for the benefit of farmers, most of them seem to be continuously failing, an example of which is seen from the plight of farmers of Manvakheda, which does not seem to be improving for the last 20 years.

Manvakheda, a village situated nearly 9 km from Udaipur, is contaminated with tons of sewage dumps in the agriculture fields.  Tons of sewage dumps each day is polluting even the ground water system, which is completely blocking the only source of livelihood for approximately 500 houses located in the village.

A 12 km long open duct was constructed to pump out the waste coming from suburban city areas like Sector 3,4,5 and 6 of Hiran Magri.  This duct was constructed 20 yrs back, and was left incomplete with tail opening in the farming lands.

The urban dirt has infected almost 60 bighas of land that the village is located on.  From time to time, newspapers and TV channels have published this news, but no effective measures have been taken by the authorities as yet.  The sewage system was set up by the Urban Improvement Trust of Udaipur.

Khemraj, 55, a farmer who is worried about the future of his sons, says “I have 25 bigha of land which was fertile but now it is of no use.  The land is ruined due to the toxic filth spreading all over.”

Shankarlal, 24, a daily wage laborer and resident of the village said, “This contaminated filth has caused severe health problems in the village.  Fever is a common disease with the children and elders of Manvakheda.  In the rainy season, the condition worsens because of still water which again spurs risk of venomous creatures, etc.”

Vishnu Patel 45, says “from the last 20 years, we have been complaining to government authorities, viz. UIT, Nagar Parishad and Gram Panchayat, but nobody ever took even a small step to resolve this issue.  Finally we decided to boycott voting but it also doesn’t seem to affect the authority.  From the last 12 years, this drainage water has polluted the ground water, leaving no drinking water resource for us.”

While digging deep into the issue it was discovered that, another sewerage line which is under consideration of UIT for Sewerage Plant has its main exit in the Ayad River.  Over the years, villagers have been using this liquid waste for farming as well, as a result of which the farming products, namely vegetables and fruits will all be highly contaminated.

According to sources, the installation of the drainage pipe is incomplete and the opening has been left open.

A series of talks and discussions have been conducted regarding developing the urban infrastructure, but villages like Manvakheda and its farmers have been left ignored and unattended.  It seems useless to talk about the largest fish aquarium and flyover when there is sorrow and disquiet among the other side of Udaipur and its citizens.

UT calls on all its readers to take up this issue, as our brethren farmers are suffering directly and we are consuming the products given by that part of farming land.

8-Year-old Raja, one of the two leopards at Gulab Bagh Zoo feels much relaxed and happy when he is visited by his best friend, Ramsingh, who is the official caretaker of animals in the zoo and friends of many other wild animals at Gulab Bagh.

In fact, Ramsingh is the only person who is allowed to enter the animal’s cages and play with them, feed them and clean their cages.

Ramsingh, a 48-year-old employee of Gulab Bagh and father of two daughters is blessed with a unique instinct of being gracious with the wild beasts of the zoo.

He works as a care taker of the animals which includes serving food to them, cleaning their cages, etc. Being the son of ex-care taker Sohan Singh, Ramsingh had spent much of his childhood between these animals. “I was born and brought up between these animals; as my father was the employee of the zoo, we were provided residence in the same premises.”

When asked how he becomes so cozy with these animals, especially with the leopard, Ramsingh said with a jovial expression, “He is like my kid; Raja knows me since he came here as a cub. I used to feed him every day and that’s how he became so close to me.”

Like Raja the leopard, many other animals of the zoo wait for Ramsingh to come and feed them every day. As soon as he goes inside the cage, he is greeted by the animals in the same manner as a domestic pet reacts on seeing the master.

Raja was brought to the zoo as an infant in 2004 with two more cubs, out of which one died due to a snake bite and another, which was sent to Jaipur zoo was also looked after by Ramsingh.

Badal, a 5-year-old leopard transferred from the forest of Prasad in 2006 along with 1 more cub that died of illness was also taken care of by Singh.

Not only these two big cats but also various other wild animals of the zoo were included in the friend list of Ramsingh including alligators, bears, monkeys, hyenas, fox and tigers.

Ram also joined various rescue operations of wild animals. In 1997 he was honored with a bravery award and in 1999 with the best caretaker award, in Jaipur.

Besides all the good moments he shares with his special friends, he was also attacked by them dozens of times. “I was once attacked by a Russel wiper and lost my index finger of the left hand.” In another incident narrated by Ramsingh, in 1997, a lion accidentally came out of the cage. He, with the help of a wooden stick forced the lion back to the cage.

No doubt Ramsingh is brave, but more than this he has immense affection for the animals of the zoo, which has made him their best friend.

Students of  The Junior Study Udaipur have expressed their warm greetings and gratitude to the teachers of Gors Community School, Swansea, Wales U.K in a cultural program held today at the school campus.

Four teachers from Gors Community School: Mr. Keith Atkins (MBE), Mrs. Marion Jones, Mrs. Ann Chapman and Dr. Kelvin Broad applauded the efforts of the students and enjoyed the traditionally inclined event.

On 21^st February, Mrs. Ann Chapman and Dr. Kelvin Broad also took the guest classes at The Junior Study in a teachers exchange program.

Today, various songs and dances were presented by students of 3^rd standard and the function was followed by the prize distribution by the guests. School Principal Asha Singh was also present in the event.

Traffic Jam Controller Project designed by the two students of Geetanjali Institute of Technical Studies (GITS) Udaipur has been selected for Research and Analysis by Department of Science and Technology Government of India, for further expansion.

Rajkumar Suthar and Arpit Siyal, both are former GITS students and they will work on Traffic Jam Using P.L.C and SCADA, for this the students have been provided funds of Rs. 4.25 lakhs. It has also been approved by Central Government. The project was accepted through a program Techno-Entrepreneurship and Project Program (PEPP) in CTAE.

Development and Research on the project will be done under the direction of Dr. Narendra Singh Rathore, Dean of CTAE and Dr. Shailendra Mohan Mathur, Coordinator and Associate Professor at CTAE.

Rajkumar (23) and Arpit (23) are currently working on this project and left their full time IT jobs in a Bangalore based company. “We have 10 months to prove it, and we are going to make it big and effective. We are much confident about it,” says Rajkumar in a conversation with UT.

Record Maintenance of Every Vehicle

A special sensor will be installed at every toll tax collection centers at highways to scan number plates of each vehicle passing through it. This will help to make a record of vehicles passed from the center. If any vehicle is used in committing crime in the city, it can be easily traced through the sensor. The basic structure of the project is ready and work has to start on final structure.

How this project will work

The polls equipped with sensors are installed at every start and end points of highway. As sensor keeps all information about vehicle passing from its range and it is also connected to the control room. Further the control room has SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and PLC (programmable logic controller) both are again connected with the sensor. This gives accurate and detail information to the control room.

The project is also able to deal with the common problem of managing the one-way traffic, especially places with high tourist volumes.

Dr. Narendra Singh Rathore has praised the project and the concept developers. He is optimistic with the output of the project which will ease the biggest and one of the most common problems India is facing being the country with largest road network.

The program is dedicated to the 150^th Birth anniversary of the famous Indian poet, writer and painter Rabindranath Tagore, thus it is named “Rabindrotsav”.

Today, on the first day of the event, Chitra (Chitrangada, 1892) a famous play written by Rabindranath Tagore was depicted by various artists. The play was directed by Dr. Laiq Hussain.

More than 20 paintings made by artists from Rajasthan and Gujarat including Ramsingh Bhati of Udaipur and Kallu Patel of Gujarat are installed outside Lok Kala Mandal auditorium.

Raghuveer Singh Meena, MP inaugurated the Rabindrotsav while the program was directed under the leadership of Shailendra Dashora.

The play, Chitrangada enthralled the present audience; it showed the deep feelings of a brave woman named Chitrangada, who was not good looking but was deeply in love with Arjuna. Her dedication and devotion impressed Kama, who blesses her with substantial beauty, but only for a year.

The story shows Chitra’s sacrifice of love for her village and its people. The role of Chitra was played by Shobha and Anushree, while Arjuna was Tulisram and Kama was Prem Kumar.

The second day of the event i.e. 23rd February is named Rang Tagore in which Indian Classical Dance and a play will be acted and ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ play will be showcased on 24th February, the last day of the Rabindraotsav.

In this largest man-made lake, which is about 14 kms long and 8 kms wide, the N.C.C cadets are being trained to cope with the extreme busy day situations on the shore.

The training starts with early morning warm-up, and then from 9 am to 12.30 pm, the cadets go through the training of Sailing and Boat Pulling.

Then after the mid-day meal, the subjects such as Seamanship, Boat Rigging and Tent Pitching etc. are taught to the cadets.

And to end the day, various cultural activities are organised. And some time the cadets are allotted time to study their academic subjects.

Camp Chief Captain, Sanjeev Kapoor informed that, “There are total 58 cadets involved in this training including 5 girl candidates, 1 trainer and officers from Rajasthan Naval Unit of Udaipur, Ajmer and Jaipur.”

Group Commander, Colonel I.S. Sahdeva V.S.M flagged Off the Sailing activity by addressing the cadets and said, “By joining N.C.C, a person gets to develop their Personality and Skills and also they get encouraged to join the Forces.”

In the concluding session of the two day International Workshop at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology on “Urbanization of peri-Urban Regions: Challenges and Opportunities for security of Water, Food and Liveablity of Future Cities”  it was agreed upon that Development of Udaipur and its vicinity will be the subject of International Research.

International Research on development of sub urban areas in terms of safe drinking water, sewerage, waste disposal and reuse, increase in sources of income and environmental development will be carried out and its centre will be Udaipur, its vicinity and Rajasthan.

In this research Australia India Institute, International Water Management, University of Western Sydney, University of Melbourne, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology and Vidya Bhawan will play the main part.

This information was given by Dr. B.L.Maheswari, Organising Secretary of International Workshop on Development of Vicinity and Sub-urban Areas. In this two days workshop 80 scientists, economists, voluntary workers and administrative officers from Australia, England, America, Africa, Uganda, Ghana, Iran, South Korea, Sri Lanka and India took part.

In different sessions the participants seriously discussed the problem of migration in cities, pollution of water sources and problem of waste disposal, food security, policy matters, institutional organization and socio-economic environmental condition.

Keeping Udaipur as the base of the research the scientists will also decide the standards of happy and healthy life. The major question discussed in the workshop was, “Is good infrastructure, like construction of roads, buildings, malls and expensive educational institute mark of happy and healthy life?”

With the help of various Case Studies it was revealed that fruits and vegetables for domestic use can be cultivated on the roofs of the houses with easy methods and limited water. This will increase the greenery and also help in getting pollution free fruits and vegetables.

The Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony of the workshop was former Vice-chancellor, Dr. K.N.Nag and he said that for the development of Vicinity and Sub-urban Areas, development of policy makers, politicians and scientists is equally important with the development of common man.

Dr. N.S. Rathore, Dean CTAE, urged the scientists to make their research result oriented.

The vote of thanks was extended by Dr. R.C. Purohit, the Organising Secretary of the workshop.
