1. UFC's top Octagon girl gets Playboy cover

UFC fans all know Arianny Celeste as the most popular of the Octagon girls, but now the 24-year-old will extend her exposure beyond the cage this month, in the pages of Playboy.
Celeste gets the cover and an additional eight pages inside.

Celeste hosts a web-based show about the sport at UFC.com, but makes it clear she has no fighting aspirations, saying "I don't think I could beat anybody up in the Octagon."
She describes her job duties as, "Just don't trip over your feet, and try to look hot and graceful," and adds that, "I love my legs. They're super-strong and lean. I'm proud of these stems." Read More | usatoday.com

2. Josh Koscheck: “My Goal is to Knock Georges St-Pierre Out”

There’s no point in competing against UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre in a popularity contest, so Josh Koscheck isn’t about to try. In fact, he’s content with being the least liked kid on campus, just as long as he’s stacking chips at the same rate he’s collecting Octagon wins.

UFC Randy Couture discusses retirement

Fighters in whatever sports comes to retirement, so with Mr. Couture. As what the 5thround.com said UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture is old enough to be some peoples’ father, and in a few cases their grand pappy. Yeah, this man is 47 years old but still doing everything he can to win, and you can see that in his last few fights.

Regardless, the Fountain of Youth will inevitably run dry and “The Natural” will be forced to hang up his iconic MMA gloves once and for all. Because of that, Couture has already started to make the transition over to a less physically demanding Hollywood career.

“I think [acting] is certainly what my interest is right now,” Couture told MMA:30 Radio Hour. “I’ve had an amazing year, and I think it’s time to start looking at that, for sure. That’s probably what’s going to carry me through for the next 10 or 15 years.”

“Captain America” was seen last month cruising to a 1stRound submission victory over boxing legend James Toney at UFC 118. To have that victory stand as his final Octagon appearance wouldn’t be all that bad, although it isn’t nearly as nice as seeing him hoist up another championship belt.

1. UFC 119 Preview: The Main Card

I don’t much care for main events. They’re often overhyped and anticlimactic, which essentially defeats the purpose of a main event.

UFC 119 has been batted around a bit because a headliner between Frank Mir and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic isn’t all that relevant in the current heavyweight division, and there is no argument to be made against that stance.

Then again, the main card has five fights any fan worth his or her salt wants to see whether it be for nostalgic thrill or stylistic gold. Here to cut through all the nonsense and deliver the goods is the same guy coming off a disastrous night of picks for UFC Fight Night 22.

2. UFC 119 Fight Card: What Chris Lytle Must Do To Beat Matt Serra

Chris Lytle and Matt Serra have a history. They first met during the 4th season of the Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback. During the finale, Serra defeated Lytle by split decision.'The Terror' defeated Lytle by split decision in the finale, with Lytle being the more active fighter on the feet, and Serra tying up and using foot stomps until he got takedowns.

This allowed him to be the aggressor forcing Lytle to hold guard and stall hoping that the ref would stand them up. In the end the fight ended up being pretty close, so I am sure that 'Lights Out' is more than a bit excited to get into it with Serra again. Read full story | bleacherreport.com

Sean Sherk is walking into the octagon for the first time since losing to Frankie Edgar at UFC 98 in 2009. Over a year later, his return is against another up-and-comer in Evan Dunham. Below is the list of things you need to know about Ultimate Fighting Championship.

1. The number in UFC 119 signifies major pay-per-view events. The 2010 schedule continues through UFC 124 on Dec. 11 in Montreal.

2. Each round is five minutes. Bouts for this event last three rounds. Rest between rounds is one minute.

3. A fighter can win by knockout, submission (physical or verbal tapout), referee stoppage, unanimous decision, majority or split decision, disqualification, forfeit or no contest. A fight can end in a draw.

4. A referee can break fighters and stand them up if they reach a stalemate or don't work to improve their position.

5. Three judges score each round on a 10-point must system. The round winner receives 10 points, the loser nine or fewer. Points can be deducted for fouls.

6. UFC's five weight classes are lightweight (146 to 155 pounds), welterweight (156 to 170), middleweight (171 to 185), light heavyweight (186 to 205) and heavyweight (206 to 265).

7. Fighters' gloves weigh 4-6 ounces, lighter than the standard 8-10 for boxing, because MMA fighters need to be able to use their fingers.

8. It's not anything goes. The lengthy list of fouls includes head butting, eye gouging, biting, hair pulling, groin attacks, striking to the spine or back of the head, throat strikes, kicking or kneeing the head of a grounded opponent, small joint manipulation (fingers or toes) or throwing a foe out of the octagon.

9. Combatants earn at least $7,500 per fight and can make as much as $40,000 to $60,000 in bonus money for the night's best fight, knockout or submission. Some of the more popular fighters have contracts that include a percentage of pay-per-view and earn into seven figures.

10. UFC's biggest name is heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, whose failed NFL bid with the Vikings in 2004 turned him to professional wrestling. He was a WWE champion. Lesnar defeated previously unbeaten Shane Carwin in the UFC 116 main event July 3 in Las Vegas. Lesnar is not on the Indy card. He is scheduled to fight Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 on Oct. 23 in Anaheim, Calif.

11. UFC 119 has four fighters with Indiana ties: Indianapolis welterweight Chris Lytle (39-17-4); heavyweight Matt Mitrione (2-0-0), a 2000 All-Big Ten defensive tackle for Purdue who played six seasons in the NFL with the Vikings and Giants; Indianapolis heavyweight Sean McCorkle (9-0-0); and South Bend lightweight Steve Lopez (12-2-0).

12. The main event is between former heavyweight champion Frank Mir (13-5-0) and Mirko Filipovic (27-7-2). Mir lost his belt to Lesnar in a second-round knockout in 2009. But he also handed the champion his only defeat with a first-round submission victory in 2008. Filipovic is known as "Cro Cop," short for Croatian cop because of his membership in his home country's elite police special forces tactical unit. He's a replacement for the injured Minotauro Nogueira.

13. In addition to pay-per-view, UFC appears on Spike TV and Versus cable networks. The worldwide audience has been estimated at 430 million homes in 130 countries, territories and jurisdictions. The Spike TV contract has been extended through 2011 to present seasons nine through 12 of "The Ultimate Fighter," 12 live fight cards, "UFC Fight Nights" and 39 one-hour episodes of "UFC Unleashed."

14. UFC is owned by the Fertitta brothers, Lorenzo and Frank III, and Dana White, who is president and spokesman. They bought the business in 2001 and have grown it into a $2.5 billion operation.

15. In existence since 1993, UFC has made significant strides with organized rule sanctions and is regulated in 44 of 48 states by athletic commissions. Discussions are ongoing to regulate fights in Connecticut, New York, Vermont and West Virginia. Wyoming and Alaska do not have athletic commissions.

1. UFC contender Chael Sonnen faces suspension for positive drug test

"Chael Sonnen, the brash Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight contender who nearly defeated champion Anderson Silva in August, tested positive for a steroid before the fight in Oakland and faces a year-long suspension, California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd said Sunday.

Sonnen will have 30 days to appeal his suspension and $2,500 fine, said Dodd, clouding UFC plans for a Sonnen-Silva rematch early next year in Nevada. UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta and President Dana White did not immediately respond to messages left Sunday night by The Times. 3. UFC Foreshadowing : Rich Franklin May Be Next For Jon Jones

Make what you want of it, but this fight is getting more possible every day. The fighters that are announced to attend the UFC Expo in England include Franklin and Jones.

The other three top fighters announced is middleweight Wanderlei Silva, welterweight Thiago Alves, and heavyweight Junior Dos Santos.

There are a lot of people in professional mixed martial arts. Over the years there have been a whole slew of fighters pass through the doors of the UFC. That number spikes if you include guy who have been who have been on the Ultimate Fighter TV show. Although most fighters aim at getting into the UFC only the best can manage to stick with the fight organization. If you lose a couple of fights then you get your walking papers. Frank Edgar won via unanimous decision scores of 50-45, 50-45 and 50-45 from the judges. Frank Edgar fight with BJ Penn 2 lasted to the fifth round and Edgar retained again his UFC Lightweight Championship Title.

"At UFC 112 Frankie Edgar shocked everyone by beating BJ Penn for the UFC Lightweight Championship. But, did Edgar really beat BJ? Edgar did pull out a unanimous decision, but was it a dominant, one-sided beating? No. Not at all.
In the preview to the upcoming UFC 118, Penn is direct in mocking the new Champion who "stole" his belt. Penn challenges Edgar to "just step up and fight" and calls the way Edgar won a "joke." To say that Penn is "highly motivated" is an understatement at this point. If he loses again, then he may have to switch back..."

Check out what BJ Penn said to his upcoming fight on UFC 118 with Frankie Edgar. This fight will be a rematch for the crown of UFC Lightweight champion. Boston, Massachusetts fans will be pleased to see the live action of this fight as so with other octagon fighters.

“If anyone thinks I’m in Hilo sitting on my ass, they’re crazy. They don’t have much to work with, they’ve only got Frankie Edgar. I’m not afraid to exchange with him in any way [but] I don’t think he wants to exchange with me. He’s going to be running around. He’s just going to try and jazz up what he did last time. A little quicker, a little better, maybe throw a kick.”

The only fighter on the list who failed about his weigh-in is Thiago Alves and he's waiting for it to be justified. Because of this he'll be fined 20% of his share. Alves tried twice but cannot lower his weight on his fight with Fitch.

Alves experienced the same thing regarding his weight before with Matt Hughes (UFC 85) in England. Rankings from USA TODAY/SB Nation Fitch holds the No. 2 and Alves at No. 3 position in welterweights.The winner of Alves vs. Fitch will have a fight between champion Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck.

In Austin, Texas, former UFC fighter Roger Huerta was seen and involved in a fight, when a women was hit at the back of his head by a guy. Huerta didn't like what he saw and take off his shirt and beat the guy 'till he is KO.

Though the fight with the man was not taken on film, the man was laying on the ground.

The Heavyweight division of UFC has poor performance in its promotion wise. Late 1990s to mid-2000s modern gladiators or its talent are gaining popularity, still not on its way up.

After long time more big fighters or talents coming into MMA now. The heavyweight division has grown into what we called trained and skilled fighters and bigger.

As the promotion are endless and the list of fighters are up, fans expects to see more matchups.

Randy Couture vs James Toney UFC 118

First of, making his debut at UFC, Toney the fire starter with his trash talks will take on Randy Couture. The fight is talked about as Boxing vs. Mixed Martial Arts. Fans of Captain America are waiting for this though no title announced yet for the upcoming event.

UFC 118 will draw fans on Saturday, August 28 from Boston, also a pay-per-view fight.

Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez UFC 121

Anderson Silva arrogant or not?

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fans saw every Silva's fight, some are lame fight because of his skill, power and mental preparation opponents end up back-pedaling and running from him.

Here Anderson Silva talks about him of being arrogant or not, you decide for yourself:

UOL: Are you arrogant?

Anderson Silva: I don’t think so. Am I being arrogant?

UOL: No.

AS: I can't please everyone. When you become world-known in a sport you become the target of cheap talking. It's necessary to watch yourself because any wrong attitude ends showing an opposite image of what you actual represented.

UOL: Is there somebody better than you in MMA nowadays?

AS: There is always someone better. There are many in my division like Chael Sonnen, who is a great opponent. In his attributes, he’s better than me.

UOL: You hold the UFC consecutive wins record. Does this bother the UFC?

AS: There’s always bother, right? Even more so with me being a Brazilian. I’m happy in the UFC but this sequence of wins bothers them because the promoters think the fights end up losing their intrigue and that people now want to see Anderson Silva lose. But it’s normal, just business.

UOL: You made some sensational entrances before fights and celebrate effusively when you win. Don’t you think these attitudes show off an arrogant image?

AS: I didn’t get where I am by being arrogant. I respect all opponents, curb smack-talking before the fight and inside the ring I go there and do my job. That is: come back healthy to my house. Of course its true that, because of the difficulty of the task, you wind up celebrating big after victory. It’s at least four months of intense preparation. It’s not something easy.

UOL: Is your fight stategy always to look for the KO from the beginning, or does your strategy change according to the fighter?

AS: You got a specific camp for each fight. Against Demian, for example, I trained more grappling but he didn’t manage to take me down and I kept standing the whole time. But each fight is an individual case and they never go the way we had trained for. You surprise them or you’re surprised.

UOL: Are you angry at your adversaries? Does it help your performance?

AS: I don’t feel angry. I think versus Demian I showed a bit more of that energy for the first time. I’m always calm, just get into the cage and fight. It’s a chess game where whoever makes the wrong move ends up knocked out.
