Medical student Died -M S Ramaiah Medical College

M S Ramaiah Medical College were aghast to find a fellow student hanging from the ceiling fan at their hostel at around 8 pm last night.

Durgi Shekawat, a second year MBBS student, allegedly committed suicide after she was suspended earlier in the day by the college authorities for cheating during an exam.

A final year student from the college, said, "We don't know what happened when she met the principal, she didn't tell us about the discussion. Nobody from the management has even bothered to show up here, so we just don't know why."

Another student, said, "The management has not bothered to come and visit the hostel even though a student is dead."

Meanwhile, a senior official from Sanjay Nagar police station, said, "We think she committed suicide between 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm last night. But we are still uncertain about the reason behind her action."

DNB Centralised Counselling 2011

NBE has announced in the Information Bulletin for DNB CET December 2010 “it has been decided that the allocation of seats shall be undertaken on the basis of centralized counseling to be conducted by NBE subject to technical & operational feasibility. Detailed scheme in this regard shall be notified in due course”. Pursuant to the same, the matter has been reviewed by the National Board of Examinations and it has been decided that:
a)      Centralized counseling

It has been decided that the seats of DNB program shall be allocated through merit based centralized counseling and this shall be implemented w.e.f. January 2011 session.

The centralized counseling shall be held at New Delhi in February 2011. Exact dates and venue for the counseling shall be announced on 4th Feb 2011.

b)      Registration for Counseling

Candidates desirous of participation in seat allocation process Jan 2011 are required to submit an online registration form at
www.natboard.edu.in

The registration form shall be available at website till 1800hrs on 31.01.2011. Desirous and eligible candidate shall have to register online. Candidates who have not registered shall not be considered for counseling. Applicant candidates will get computer generated acknowledgement slip at the end of registration process.

c)      List of seats available:
State wise list of seats available for January 2011 (including family medicine) seats shall be published on NBE website by 07.02.2011 (provisional)

d)     Publications of merit list
Merit list of enrolled candidates for January 2011 session shall be published online at www.natboard.edu.in on 07.02.2011.
e)     Applicant candidates shall note their date and venue of counseling from website of NBE and appear at the indicated time and venue on their own, NBE shall not be responsible for any travel or stay arrangements.

f)      Candidates who have already joined or taken a seat in any DNB course earlier will not be eligible to participate in the counseling Jan 2011.

CET issue can't be decided on petition by some students: Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday made it clear to the Medical Council of India that it could not grant approval for the proposal to introduce a common nationwide eligibility-cum-entrance test for MBBS and postgraduate courses from 2011-12 even before the regulations

were notified.

A Bench of Justices R.V. Raveendran and A.K. Patnaik, in a brief order, said the pendency of the matter in the court would not, however, come in the way of the MCI notifying any rule in accordance with law if it had been approved by the Centre.

Nor would the pendency stand in the way of anyone (affected party) challenging the validity of the regulation after it was notified.

Appearing for the MCI, senior counsel Amarendra Saran said a national eligibility-cum-entrance test would ensure transparency and prevent irregularities in admissions.

At this, Justice Raveendran said: “You want this court to give the seal of approval for a regulation which is not notified. The scheme has to come, it has to be challenged, we will have to hear the States and other parties and go into its validity and then decide whether the rule is valid or not.

How can we grant approval for a regulation which is yet to be notified? You notify the rule, we will consider if it is challenged.”

Senior counsel Ashok Desai, appearing for Tamil Nadu said the State had already enacted a law abolishing the Common Entrance Test and the issue of CET could not be decided on a petition filed by some students.

Counsel A.D.N. Rao, appearing for the main petitioners Simran Jain and others, said many States had already opposed the move to have a CET. He, however, said the common test would help students.

The D.D. Medical and Educational Trust, represented by its chairman and managing trustee T.D. Naidu; the Christian Medical College, Vellore, and some other colleges had filed intervention applications.

The Bench said it would be open to them to challenge the notification, once it was issued, if they were aggrieved.
