With the holidays coming up, it is an excellent time to start working out so you can look your best! (And by “working out” we mean sitting at home and pumping up on some awesome ukuleleexercises, so you can impress all of your relatives ). One giant step towards major uke shreddage is mastering the “bend“ – so we’ve created a quick little exercise that you can apply to almost any key! Check out this week’s episode of Uke Minutes for a Note Bending Exercise to sharpen those uke skills.

This week we are serenaded with a mellow, jazzy, tune played for us by boundless. With all the candy from halloween, everyone must be all pepped up with sugar that we need a nice mellow tune to relax to and this just hit the spot so well. Smooth vocals and a nice and mellow uke part, it’s enough to make us melt like ice cream in the sun. So when you see boundless be sure to give him an e-high five for an awesome video. Happy Halloween! Alright people, get ready for another awesome episode of Uke Lessons! We’re about to stir it up with some sweet reggae music from Bob Marley – a song called “Guava Jelly” – to satisfy your soul. We were jammin’ this song while we were in California for UU Tour 2009 and thought it would make a good lesson. So put it on, get into that mellow mood, and lively up yourself, because November’s episode of Uke Lessons is here!
We also stuck in some never-before-seen footage from the first half of UU Tour 2009, so if you came out to see us in Southern California, check out the video – you just might see YOU. There’s almost no way for anyone to watch this video without cracking a smile! This week’s MVOW goes to our lovely AnnaUK for her “Dippity Day” ukulele smurfs cover. Hey UUers!
So, you know your Major Scales on your ukulele like the back of your hand and can solo over major chord progressions like nobody’s business. But what happens when someone starts playing in a minor key?? Do you hide behind the mic stand? Pretend you need to go to the bathroom? NO!
In this week’s episode of Uke Minutes, Aldrine shows you how to use your knowledge of major scales to play in minor keys with Related Major Substitutions!
Here’s how: 1. Take the minor key that you are playing in (for example, Em) 2. Raise the root note up a step-and-a-half (E –> G). 3. Use that major scale to create your solos, but start and end on the root note of the original key (Use a G scale to solo, but start and end on E).
