8 Quick Ways to Generate Blog Traffic Systematically

There are many ways to generate free traffic to your sites, especially for blogs. After creating a blog post, you can use methods ranging from sending your posts as articles to article submission sites like EzineArticles.com, to leveraging on social bookmarking sites like OnlyWire. In fact, it is advisable that if you have the time, to take advantage of them all.

However, due to the numerous ways available, the whole process can be extremely tedious without a systematic or automated way of doing this. Below is my own step-by-step system which, while not fully automated, can be used to reach out to a wider audience quickly and instantly, for each of your blog posts.

#1 - Submit the post as an article to article submission sites
Article submission sites are guaranteed traffic generators for well-written articles, usually on an average of between 1-200 visitors a day. If your post has been written like an article, do not hesitate to submit it to sites like ArticlesBase.com. However, do note that article sites require good content, and not just something from a daily muse.

#2 - Publish Feedburner feed(s)
Ensure your posts have been published using RSS feeds, such as Feedburner.

#3 - Use Squidoo
Create Squidoo lenses for each keyword in your post, if it has not already been done. Then add your blog RSS feed in the lens. This will place your post to the eyes of anyone who visits you via Squidoo.

#4 - Stumble the post and Squidoo lens
StumbleUpon.com is a social bookmarking site which provides a browser tool bar from which you can bookmark your site's pages. It helps to generate massive amounts of traffic to your site, especially if you provide content which people find useful. As a result, more people will review and bookmark your site, creating much exposure, possible backlinks and a subsequent readership.

Once you have set up the tool bar, use the "I Like It!" button to bookmark and review the site page with your post.

#5 - Submit to OnlyWire and other social bookmarking sites
There is an increasing number of social bookmarking sites available today which provides massive potential for traffic generation. In order to submit your post to each of them requires considerable effort and time. Wouldn't it be a great timesaver if there was a tool that could automate this?

With OnlyWire, this can be achieved to a certain extent. At the moment, OnlyWire allows instant submission of your post to up to 22 social bookmarking sites. You will still need to have your own account at each of these sites, and key in your account name and password into OnlyWire. But after that, all you need to do is to bookmark your post using OnlyWire, and it will help to submit your post to all the 22 sites and a global audience.

If you are part of other sites like Digg.com (which is not on OnlyWire), do the necessary submission to those sites as well.

#6 - Ping Technorati
Technorati is often known as the authority of the latest buzz on the World Wide Web. If you have an account with Technorati and have added the necessary widgets, Technorati will ping your site upon adding a new post.

#7 - Write a WTF (Where's The Fire?) on Technorati
WTFs are short articles or excerpts on Technorati that are often used to spread the word on practically everything. They are frequently exposed on Technorati's main page and can be voted on by people. If your post or article is of great content, write a short WTF and post it on Technorati. This can provide residual traffic as well, since popular WTFs can remain on the Technorati homepage for a long while.

#8 - Alert your blog communities of new content
People who have joined your blog communities in MyBlogLog for example, are definitely keen on visiting your blog for content. Do them a service, inform them of your new post and they will drop by.

There are many other platforms on which you can leverage on to generate free traffic through various media - such as Yahoo! Answers, YouTube, Flickr, Google Alerts and the countless Web 2.0 sites sprouting up all over the Internet.The above 8 steps are just the main methods which I use to quickly and systematically spread my posts to a wider audience, using such platforms. Because the web directories have free features which let you submit your blog's fresh content without having to fill in any forms. This system, which works for RDD feeds as well, is called "pinging" and is available from sites like http://pingoat.com and http://kping.com.
All you need do is ping your blog and an updated version of to will be sent to each of the major blog directories, which now number around forty. Think of it: just type in your blog's url and title, hit submit, and your updated blog will be available on over forty directories!

You should, in order to maximize you blog's chance of generating traffic from the directories and RSS feeds, put a lot of thought into your choice of a blog title. It should contain your most targeted keyword, because you want that included in the backlinks you get when you submit the blog to the directories and feeds.

When you submit your blog to the directories and RSS feeds, you will also benefit by having it placed on the first page of a number of them. This placement may result in a momentary surge in your blog's traffic from people who want to see what blog content has been updated most recently.

After you have submitted your updated blog to the RSS feeds and blog directories which offer the ping feature, you can then submit it the old fashioned way to the directories and RSS feeds which do not offer it.

10 Ways to Monetize Your Blog

I'm co-leading a discussion session at Wordcamp about Monetizing Blogs, so I thought I'd also touch on it here with a post about 10 Ways to Monetize Your Blog.

First, I should preface this discussion by saying you first need to seriously evaluate whether you want to work at monetizing your blog. Steve Pavlina has a very thorough post that goes over what�s necessary to really do this well, and why the majority of people who try end up not generating significant income.

Second, you have to make sure that making money from your blog directly is your goal. For example, for this blog direct income isn�t my goal. I didn't have ads at all untli recently, and the only reason I added them was to use the ad network management application I�ve been working on called RMX Direct. It�s quite possible that your blogging goals may just to network, write about something you�re interested in, or serve some business purpose that isn�t direct income generation.

With that out of the way, let's get started:

1. Contextual Advertising
Surprise, surprise. Advertising is easily the most popular blog monetization tactic, mostly due to it being the easiest thing to implement. Advertising comes in many forms, and contextual advertising is the most popular due to Google Adsense and it�s general success with blogs and niche sites.

I'm going to assume everyone reading this is familiar with it, but I think it should be mentioned that too many bloggers assume that Adsense is the best solution for their blog. For some blogs and topics it works great, for others, not very well at all.

My advice is to not limit your blog to one ad network or just one form of advertising. Other contextual options include the Yahoo Publisher Network, Chitika, Clicksor, AdSonar, and others. It�s not easy to manually test all these though if you�re shuffling ad tags around and randomly allocating your impressions to them, using a ad network management tool like RMX Direct can help you manage, evaluate, and control your various ad networks.

2. Display Advertising
As I mentioned above, contextual networks aren�t always the best solution for blogs. In some cases there aren�t enough advertisers in niche topics, and in others the users just isn�t likely to click. In this case, you want to be working with ad networks that provide CPM display advertising. This means you get paid something for every ad viewed, opposed to only getting paid per click.

Just like with contextual networks, it�s important to use multiple display ad networks to get more variety from your ads, to not let any one network control your inventory, and to make sure you�re earning the most amount of money possible.

3. Targeted Advertising
The most desirable form of advertising is having companies that wish to pay good rates to advertise on your blog directly whether it�s text or image ads. Many bloggers feel that this is a pipe dream, but I speak from experience from running a wakeboarding blog for many years that you can make solid income from targeted advertising without having insane amounts of traffic.

There are a number of key things you have to do though in order to get this type of advertising:

* Have a blog with leading content in your niche and a professional design

* Create a "media kit" which is essentially a page on your blog that explains that you take targeted advertising, what your rates are, demographics of your users, your traffic levels, examples of the types of ads people can run, testimonials from any companies that have advertised with you, and a phone number and email address they can use to get more information.

* Have obvious "Advertise On This Blog" links in key places on your blog.

* Give a company or two in your niche free or very low-cost advertising in order to get the ball rolling. When advertisers see their competitors or companies similar to them advertising, they get the idea that it�s available. If all they ever see is Adsense ads, they might not realize it�s an option.

* Be willing to be creative to help your advertisers achieve their goals, and lower your price to get the deals.

* Provide statistics and results to your advertisers. Use an ad server like RMX Direct, phpAdsNew, or something similar which has the ability to create reports per advertiser.

Once you've set your blog up properly, start approaching companies in your niche who will want to reach your traffic. You don�t need to go after the biggest companies, there are many small companies who are looking to get better results from the web, and they might not even know about your blog. You don�t need to be an ad sales professional, you just need to present your case well on why they�re missing out if they don�t advertise on your traffic. Make it easy on them to work with you, help them create ads, help them determine what sizes to use, and work with them to make sure they get the results they need. It seems like hard work at first, but after you get a solid base of advertisers going, it�s a great source of income and it starts to streamline.

4. Text Link Advertising
Another somewhat unobtrusive form of advertising is using services like Text Link Ads or Adbrite to sell text ads directly to companies. This is pretty low effort and often doesn�t take up too much space on a site, so it�s easy to implement and try out. It should be noted though that you need significant traffic for it to be a big source of income.

5. Affiliate Links
One of the older web monetization methods is still as good today as it�s always been. If you�ve got a blog in a specific area, there�s a very large chance that there are companies out there that sell products or services your users are interested in. You can earn some nice income recommending or linking to those products.

Amazon.com is probably the most common affiliate merchant used by bloggers, but I�d advise finding other unique merchants who may pay better and be more specific to your topic. Amazon is always there as an option, but you�re more likely to get more help from the merchant if you go with a smaller company.

Another nice thing about affiliate links is that they fit well with quality content. Reviewing products and services for your users is valuable content, and if you can make money off it as well it�s a great combination. A word of warning though that you shouldn�t change your reviews or be biased due to the fact you can make money off a referral.

While traffic also helps for affiliate links, it can sometimes be an easier way to generate income without high traffic levels like advertising requires. As an example I did a review of a web analytics application a couple of years ago, and this blog had very little traffic at that point. I referred two sales through that review though that still earn me $150 a month every month two years later.

6. Selling Your Content (Ebooks, Videos, DVDs)
If you�ve got great content, another option is to package it and sell it. There are numerous bloggers who have created ebooks and even real books based on their blog content and made great income selling them. You can also expand to infoproducts like videos, DVDs, audio CDs, and printed books on demand.

This can take some significant work and it requires great content to actually sell, but it can be a nice income stream that lasts a long time.

7. Consulting
Depending on your topic and your level of expertise, you can sell consulting services. If you�re a web analytics expert, you could offer web analytics consulting services on your blog for an hourly fee. This takes very little work to setup beyond creating a page outlining your services, getting a standard contract, and having a way to take payments from companies. Again though, it just takes a little bit of effort to let people know that consulting services are available.

8. Donations
Not quite as common as it once was, it used to be fairly common for bloggers to ask for donations on their blog through Paypal or some other service. This only works if you have a dedicated userbase, and a large enough number of users that their donations add up. I wouldn�t recommend this if you�re also putting a lot of advertising and other monetization methods on your blog. You�ll come off as a bit too greedy in that case.

9. Selling Products
Besides infoproducts, you can sell real products like t-shirts, bumper stickers, clothing, or whatever other kind of merchandise makes sense for your topic. Companies like Goodstorm, CafePress, Lulu, and others make it easy by creating the products based on your design and letting you set up a shop. There is no risk to bloggers, which makes it a great opportunity.

10. Selling Your Blog
Perhaps the most extreme of the blog monetization methods, but it can be lucrative! If you aren�t attached to your blog and are willing to part with it, you can usually find a buyer for it. Your blog must be pretty good, and have a level of traffic worth buying, and it really helps if you already have some income streams going for it. Blogs usually sell for 12-24 times monthly revenues, and there are numerous places you can sell them like eBay and the Sitepoint Marketplace.

Conclusion
It definitely takes some work to monetize your site well, and having good traffic really helps out. Work on building a blog with a solid userbase, and you should be on your way to generating income using any of the methods above. 7 Search Engine Strategies That Work

Although the concept of SEO can be somewhat complex, there are a number of basic search engine optimization practices you should note before starting any SEO related activity. 1. MetaTags

Metatags are simple lines of code at the top of your page (source code) that tell the search engines about your page. I recommend that you be sure to include the following meta tags: title (no more than 7 words and unique for each page), keywords, description, author, and robots tag. 2. Create or update your sitemap

Developing a site map is a simple yet highly effective way of giving search engines the information they need to crawl your entire website. 4. Check that all images include ALT text

Be sure to label your images appropriately and they may even show up as the number one result on Google. Additionally, Google has a database of images (Google Image Search) that indexes pictures as well.

5. Use Flash content sparingly

As mentioned earlier, content generated through java script or flash is a big no-no. Some webmasters like to use flash because of the presentation. It’s okay to use sparingly, but only after your site has been properly optimized with basic SEO in mind.

6. Make sure that important page elements are HTML

Keep in mind when optimizing a web page crawlers are basically only looking at your source code. Anything you've put together using an image or other multimedia component is likely to be invisible to search engines. Therefore, the most important elements of your page, where the heart of your content is presented, should be presented in W3C optimized HTML source code.

7. Place keywords in your page content the right way

I’m sure you’ve heard the importance of placing the right keywords or keyword phrases in your content. To show the search engines that your article is focused on a particular keyword or keyword phrase, be sure to sprinkle it throughout the content. Additionally, include your keyword in headers and sub-heads. That is to say that your keyword should be contained in an h1, h2, or h3 tag.

Learning to optimize your website for search engines takes time and most of all, patience. Start with the basic principles I’ve outline here and you’re off to a good start. If you’re new to SEO, or even a well seasoned veteran, begin by prioritizing which pages are most important for you to optimize. Sometimes people think that they need to optimize all their pages right away and the task becomes too overwhelming. Start small, begin with your primary and/or secondary pages, and go from there.

Post On Niche Realted Forums
Please don't spam. Search for the forums that can be added to the niche that you wish to promote. Carefully study the entire discussed topic and relate it to the questions asked during the discussion. The discussion can also answer personal questions. Make sure that in every discussion made, you put a small resource box at the end of it to serve as a link to your blog (not always your homepage). How To Double Your Affiliate Marketing Commissions Without Growing Your List

Most Internet marketers start out by being an affiliate marketer, selling other people's products. This a reasonable strategy because affiliate marketing offers many benefits including:

* No fulfillment costs

* Quick time to market

* Huge product selection

* Few, if any, customer service issues

However, if you ask most affiliate marketers, you would find that they are not satisfied with their commissions. Why is this?

The answer is in understanding the concept of front-end vs. backend marketing. The front-end product (usually a low-priced eBook in ClickBank) is usually sold to create a qualified lead, who is then offered an upsell to a higher end product (such as a ticket to a live event or a coaching program). This is the BIGGEST secret of marketing and world class marketers such as Mike Filsaime, Dan Kennedy, and Jay Abraham have used this concept to make millions for themselves and for their clients.

Since most affiliate marketers don't understand this concept, they continue to try to sell more low-end products to increase their commissions when in reality, they should be offering an immediate upsell for a higher-end product. Using the upsell technique of higher-end products has some advantages over selling more low-end products:

* You don't have to grow your list

* You can get make more money immediately vs. having to wait for new sales to come in

* That customer is statistically 10 times more likely to buy from you again because he's made 2 purchases vs. a single purchase

In many cases, the sale of a single higher product is the equivalent of selling 5 or more of the original product.

Let's take a quick example. Let's assume that you're selling a $20 product and getting a 50% commission [you would then make $10 per sale]. To get to $500 dollars, you would have to sell 50 copies of this product.

Now, let's assume that you offer a $200 product upsell [as an affliate and you get 50% on this as well] as soon as the customer buys. Even if only 10% of your buyers take the upsell, you would get an additional $100 per sale. Of course, you have to seek out joint venture partners that offer higher end products but those are easy to find.

Let's quickly compare your commission then after 10 sales:

* 10 sales x $10 commission per sale = $100

* 10 sales x $10 commission per sale = $100 + 1 upsell commission of $100 = $200

You have doubled your affiliate marketing commission with the same amount of effort and without having to grow your list! A 10% upsell is very doable because the best time to sell somebody is when they just bought.

I hope that simple example illustrates how you can double your affiliate marketing business, even without growing your list.

Niche marketing is a popular buzz world on the Internet these days. But, what is niche marketing? More to the point, can you make money doing it?

First, let's define niche marketing. Niche marketing is targeting a specific keyword to base your promotion, website and/or business on. You can create many niche websites that all refer back to a broader topic such as recipes. A niche for that topic might be weight loss recipes. Or you can get even more specific with Atkins Diet recipes.

Can you make money with nich marketing? The answer to that is a resounding "Yes." With niche marketing, you can have those all important "multiple streams of income" coming in. You can have adsense income, affiliate income and money from sales of your own product, such as an ebook. You are only limited to your imagination.

Most newcomers to online marketing immediately focus on Internet marketing itself as a topic. The problem with this tactic is that the market is already dominated by the big name gurus. A better way to go would be to look for niche markets that are not related to Internet marketing.

So, how do you find a highly targeted niche that will be profitable for you? Well, you do your research.

First, what are you interested in? Do you have a hobby that you are passionate about? Take that topic and do a keyword search at Wordtracker.com. This site will take your general category word and "drill it down" to more specific keywords. For instance, from dogs to poodles to how to groom poodles. These are words that people are using for searches for this topic. Take a look at the KEI or keyword popularity. You're looking for a keyword that is high in demand but doesn't have a lot of websites on the topic.

Once you have your target, think about how you can make your website unique from the other websites competing with you for your topic. Then, use that with your keyword to register your domain name. Register a domain that is as close to your highly targeted keyword as possible. Now you will gather information and articles and write your own content about your subject. Since you are passionate about this topic, it should be easy for you!

Build your website and get it online and ready to attract visitors. Be sure that each page of your website is complete with meta tags. Mega tags tell the search engines what your website is about. At the very least, you'll have your page title, description and keywords. Add Google Adsense and a few affiliate products that based on your web page's keywords.

Now, how do you get visitors to your beautiful new website? That's a whole topic in itself, but here are a few ideas.

1. Write articles and submit them to article directories. I believe this is the number one way to get "back links" to your site. Back links show the search engines that people are linking to your website and makes your site look more popular to the search engines. It also establishes you as an expert on your website's topic.

2. Visit forums that are related to your niche market. Take part in the discussions there - but don't blatently advertise your website. You'd probably get banned.

3. Create a signature file so that every time you send out an email, your new website is introduced to whoever you write to.

4. Build a list by creating a newsletter about your topic. Find or write a short report (about 20 or so pages) about your topic and give it away as incentive for site visitors to subscribe to your newsletter.

You can make money with niche marketing. It does take time. You're not going to have thousands of visitors the first day but with work and persistence, your website traffic will build until you'll see a good profit from your Adsense and affiliate products.

Many business owners have a textbook approach to marketing. They read about what typically works for businesses in their industry and that becomes the benchmark for their marketing approach. If taking out Yellow Page ads is the traditional way to market their business, then that is what they do. It becomes a cookie cutter approach to marketing and it may not be the best approach anymore. Just because certain businesses have been successful in the past without using the Internet, it doesn't necessarily ring true that the Internet should continue to be ignored as a marketing avenue.

Undervalued Websites
A website is undervalued when it is being used as an electronic brochure and not much more. Because of old-fashioned ideas, the company can not imagine the application of Internet Marketing to its website. Yet, that is exactly what they should be doing; especially service providers. Service providers need to stop thinking that word of mouth is the only way to get business or that you can only sell products on the Internet. The Internet can be an excellent way to get clients. My wife is an Interior Designer; a profession that doesn't typically advertise on the Web. Yet, we started a Pay-Per-Click program for her that became so successful she couldn't take on anymore clients.

Creating an Online Campaign
Don't worry about how much competition there is on the Web; putting together a successful online campaign to drive traffic to your website is possible with a focused Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaign. Here's a simplified primer to get you started:

1)Research the techniques.
Yahoo, MSN and Google control 95% of this online game. The goal is to be on the first page of Yahoo, MSN or Google as the result of a keyword search by your target audience. You can purchase online ads through both Yahoo and Google.

2)Establish a budget.
Put a limit on the amount of money you spend on a campaign. Every time someone clicks on your ad, money will be taken out of your account, so have a realistic budget.

3)Find the right keywords for your audience.
Look at the ads being used by your competition and see what keywords they are using. Then compare that to your audience. What other words could you use that would attract traffic? Test those ideas by using the free keyword selector tool at http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/rc/srch/

4)Create your ad.
Write search listings for each of your keywords. Create a headline for your ad using not more than 25 characters. Exactly repeat your search phrase in the headline and in the body of the ad.

5)Bid on the words.
Yahoo claims that you'll have the most success by bidding on at least 20 or more keywords. The order of the ads on the pages is determined by the prices bid on the keywords; the higher the bid price, the higher the ad placement.

6)Split Test your ad.
Test your ads to see which ones work the best. Check your click-through rates to find out which ones are performing the best.

7)Have a separate landing page for your ad.
Don't send your ad traffic to your homepage and hope they'll find the product or service you are advertising. Create a special landing page for your PPC campaign.If you haven't considered a PPC campaign, now might be the time to give it a chance. Start using the Internet to market your business and get ready for an avalanche of leads and sales.

I started surfing the internet waves since 1996 where the first IRC channels start poping out from the BBS ruins. I believe that the internet marketplace has a great financial potential.
I also believe that so far we have taken advantage of it by a very small portion.

The problem is : How can you create an online campaign if you don't know programming?
