So x-factor is changing their audition process, and its now like britains got talent, where they audition in front of an audience.
and on tuesday i will be part of the audience, and i admit i love x-factor, and i needed a cheer up, so it was fun winning tickets :)

I know this isn't strictly news, and is instead an opinion article (but that falls under current events :P). Anyway its from the Times this morning (which was really good, excellent coverage of whats going on in Iran).

You're probably going to be able to tell whether its interesting to you or not, so if you're not likely to find it insteresting then I wouldn't bother reading it ;p.

Bits I thought were insightful:

'Whether America's traditional insistence that citizens should take responsibility for their own healthcare is proud self-reliance or shameful inhumanity is a matter of political perspective.' - Really clearly highlights the divide in ideology between America and much of Europe.

'US healthcare costs have long been out of line with costs in other countries. The US spends $2.5 trillion or $8,100 per head on healthcare, 17.6per cent of its GDP. This is half as much (Either I'm going crazy or this is a mistake) again as the 11 per cent of GDP spent in France and Germany and almost double the 9 per cent in Britain and the OECD as a whole. The world's next highest spender is Switzerland at 12 per cent. Yet medical outcomes, such as cancer and cardiac survival rates, are generally no better than the OECD average and substantially worse than in France, Switzerland and Japan.

Until recently, however, these vast disparities made no impression on US public opinion. Americans simply assumed that the rest of the world was out of step: their system might cost more, but it delivered more innovation and greater patient satisfaction than “socialised” medicine.

In a mirror image of the false dichotomies distorting the healthcare debate in Britain, where US-style privatisation is presented as the only alternative to a state-run NHS, Americans have generally reacted to all reform proposals with horror, pointing to the inadequacies of the British system, while ignoring the experience of other countries. France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Australia and Japan, for instance, combine public and private provision in ways that deliver far better medical outcomes and greater customer satisfaction than the British system, at far lower cost than the US.' - Goes along with what I've always said when Americans point towards the British system.

Any thoughts from Americans etc. who know more about it?

Very Costly Kiss: Senior Denied Diploma

The seemingly harsh punishment has sent the Web all aflutter. Searches on "student denied diploma" and "bonny eagle high school" are both through the roof. Additionally, blogs and news papers are chiming in with opinions on whether or not the administration overreacted. The student's mother has given interviews and is quite upset at her son's treatment. According to an article from Fox News the outraged mother said, "A bow, a kiss to your mom is not misbehavior."

But the administrators feel they were just enforcing the rules that students agreed to. At a meeting following the debacle, school superintendent Suzanne Lukas said that "if a student doesn't adhere to the expectations, then the consequences are clearly spelled out."

This isn't the first time that rambunctious (dare we say "fun"?) behavior affected a graduation ceremony at Bonny Eagle. "Four years ago we had some issues with silly string and beach balls," said Lukas.

Swimsuits

Damn all the makers of them to hell!

I went shopping everywhere today to find a top.
What I wanted looks like a cropped off tank-top. HOWEVER, since I need underwire - I couldn't find one!

Seriously - modest people exist in this world!

I do not like showing off my hooters you morons!!
I swear - not everyone wants to dress like a slut, they only wear those things because there are no other alternatives!!

Okay, the only swimsuits they had that came close tied in the back of the neck.
And showed off what I got.
Seriously, I can't tell you HOW MUCH those piss me off!
And I mean those were the only ones with underwire!
HOLY HELL! I realize on 10% of the female population are a D Cup or higher - but seriously, one underwire suit in each damn store?! ONE - JUST ONE?!

So eventually, I found one that only showed a little cleavage (it basically wasn't a bra that you wear in the water like other suits today). It covered my stomach though... So now I need to cut it.
However, I needed to go get a bra to wear under it! So now I'm all pissed about it!

That's it! I know what I'm gonna do one day.
I'm gonna go into a swimsuit industry and make only suits for C and D+ women.
And I'm gonna vary in the styles as well!
Seriously, I'd be a hero to over 10% of the population!

What do you do if your lesson is boring?

Most of the time i doodle, i doodle even in interesting lessons. but in the boring ones, i dedicate sheets and sheets of papers just for doodling xD

Otherwise i read, usually i carry a book with me, incase i have any free's and no work, and cba to go out, so i read that if im bored. And my mobile- games/texting. Or i skip.

Need to find software for cutting audio/video

I haven't had any luck with this so far. I have some videos which are videos of concerts (aroudn 3 hours each) which I would like to divide up into clips of each song. The main reason is that I want to then convert them to audio, it also wouldn't bother me if I converted the whole thing to audio first then cut it into segments.

So my question is whether anyone knows of any software which would allow me to do this. Windows movie maker would be ideal, but on vista it only allows me to cut the video into two clips and then de-activated the option. The programme would need to be able to handle large files, obviously.

If anyone could help that would be great :)

Teenager hit by 30k mph meteorite!

Gerrit Blank survived a direct hit by a meteorite as it hurtled to Earth at more than 30,000 mph.

Gerrit Blank, 14, was on his way to school when he saw "ball of light" heading straight towards him from the sky.
A red hot, pea-sized piece of rock then hit his hand before bouncing off and causing a foot wide crater in the ground.

The teenager survived the strike, the chances of which are just 1 in a million - but with a nasty three-inch long scar on his hand.
He said: "At first I just saw a large ball of light, and then I suddenly felt a pain in my hand.
"Then a split second after that there was an enormous bang like a crash of thunder."
"The noise that came after the flash of light was so loud that my ears were ringing for hours afterwards.
"When it hit me it knocked me flying and then was still going fast enough to bury itself into the road," he explained.
Scientists are now studying the pea-sized meteorite which crashed to Earth in Essen, Germany.
"I am really keen on science and my teachers discovered that the fragment is really magnetic," said Gerrit.

Chemical tests on the rock have proved it had fallen from space.
Ansgar Kortem, director of Germany's Walter Hohmann Observatory, said: "It's a real meteorite, therefore it is very valuable to collectors and scientists.
"Most don't actually make it to ground level because they evaporate in the atmosphere. Of those that do get through, about six out of every seven of them land in water," he added.

The only other known example of a human being surviving a meteor strike happened in Alabama, USA, in November 1954 when a grapefruit-sized fragment crashed through the roof of a house, bounced off furniture and landed on a sleeping woman.
