<gallery#1>Host for round two of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) was the historic Spa-Francorchamps track after the season had kicked off at Silverstone. Due to its proximity to round three, the all-important 24 Hours of Le Mans, the race at Spa has traditionally doubled as a final dress rehearsal. This year was certainly no exception with many teams fielding their Le Mans driver line-ups and both Audi and Toyota running Le Mans-specific aero setups on one of their cars. This was actually the first outing for the 2013 evolution of the Japanese manufacturer's TS030 Hybrid. At Silverstone, the 2012 cars were comprehensively beaten by the latest Audis, so the new car's arrival was overdue. In addition to the protagonists in LMP1 class, the 35-strong field also consisted of a healthy number of LMP2 machines and closely-knit fight in both the GTE Pro and GTE Am classes. With works teams from Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari dicing it out in GTE Pro, this was certainly another headline grabber.
<gallery#1>For the 2013 edition of the Tour Auto retrospective, Le Grand Palais in Paris once again served as the event's starting point. The spectacular exhibition hall has traditionally hosted the Paris Auto Salon and also the start of the contemporary Tour de France Automobiles. The entrants and their rides gathered in the Grand Palais on the day before the start for scrutineering, which gave the public a unique opportunity to get a closer look at the 250 historic cars before they roared off into the French countryside early the following morning. This field was made up of cars of a type that raced in the original Tour de France between 1951 and 1973, as well as slightly later rally cars of particular interest like the Ferrari 308 GTB Group 4 and the Lancia Stratos Group 4. Eligible for the outright victory, however, were only the competition cars built before 1966. Among the start cars on the entry list was the AC Shelby Cobra Daytona originally raced by Bob Bondurant and Jochen Neerpasch in the 1964 Tour de France. There is more than a little merit in this claim as each year the event fills not only all 12 halls of the massive Messe Essen exhibition centre but in recent years also some of the outdoor parking lots have been pressed into service. Among the hundreds of exhibitors are major manufacturers, suppliers, clubs, classic car dealers and many small vendors of, for example, books, second hand parts and other accessories. Despite the size of the venue, space is still at a premium and many exhibitors go to great lengths to fill every inch of what has been allocated to them. As a result some of the halls look more like second hand car lots than a show floor. In a quest to track down the highlights in what was literally a sea of cars, our photographers traversed the 12 halls on what was once the press preview afternoon but has now been renamed the happy view day. The result is this <link#1>200-shot gallery and brief report.
<gallery#1>Laid out in the hills on the southern edge of the city of Imola during the early 1950s, the Autodromo Internationale Dino & Enzo Ferrari remains very much a classic circuit. Thanks to its high speed corners and undulations, one of the track's creators, Enzo Ferrari, once likened it to a mini-Nurburgring. Accordingly, it forms an ideal backdrop for a historic race meeting like the Imola Classic, organised by Peter Auto Racing for the second year in 2013. The two-day meeting featured familiar 'Peter' grids like the Sixties' Endurance and Classic Endurance Racing (CER), complemented by the Italian Challenge Formule Storiche series for small-displacement single seaters from the 1960s. With Europe still buckling under an unusually long and temperamental winter, the entrants and spectators were treated to two dry and mostly sunny days. Although any hope of spring finally arriving was quickly washed away by the rain that followed soon after the checkered flag fell for the final time on Sunday evening.
<gallery#1>Generally considered as the most prestigious event of its kind in the world, the Geneva International Motor Show always inspires manufacturers to bring the very best even in these difficult times. This year was no exception although the trend of producing more efficient and cleaner cars did continue. On the other end of the spectrum these same hybrid technologies are now used to create supercars that have drivetrains capable of producing in excess of 900 bhp. What also adds to the appeal of Geneva is that it forms the annual stage for many of the specialist design houses to present their latest show and concept cars. Despite the difficult economic conditions, floorspace was still at a premium in Geneva's Palexpo exhibition centre. This has been addressed by adding a section previously used for parking to one of the main halls, providing more space to the likes of Kia and Infiniti. Eager to see the latest show and production cars in the metal (and/or composite), our photographers ventured to Geneva for the 10th year in succe ...

<gallery#1>First held back in the 1970s, the Retromobile show each year attracts enthusiasts from all over the world to come to Paris, France in the midst of Winter. Maintaining the typical small scale approach and always good for a couple of surprises, this year's, the 38th edition was once again highly anticipated. Among the themes was a celebration of the Porsche 911 50th anniversary, a special display of DS Citroens and a showcase of Marcel Leyat's propellor driven automobiles. As always the dealers also pulled out all the stops to wow the crowd.
Forming an integral part of the event now are two auctions held during the five days of the show. First up was the Bonhams sale hosted in the fantastic Grand Palais in the heart of Paris, followed by Artcurial's Retromobile auction held right on the show floor.
Marking our tenth anniversary of covering this show, we were on hand bright and early to capture the Retromobile magic in a <link#1>140-shot gallery of the show, a <link#2>50-shot gallery of the Bonhams sale and a <link# ...

<gallery#1>The tag line of the 2012 Essen Motor Show was 'For drivers and dreams'. To a large extent this covers the nature of the event, which caters to both the tuner and motorsport enthusiasts. Although the tuner displays can be a bit overwhelming to the more sensitive among us, 'Essen' has achieved a workable balance between the two main themes. At this year's show, they were treated to a display celebrating the imminent 50 year anniversary of the Porsche 911 and a collection of historic racing cars from the first 40 years of the World Sports Car Championship. Also on hand were a relatively large number of manufacturers, showcasing both their latest racing cars and their lines of aftermarket options. For the more tuner orientated visitors, the show once again boasted a small track on which the latest drifting machines were exercised. As always the remainder of the twelve halls were filled with a wide variety of exhibitors offering all the automotive related merchandise one can dream off.
<gallery#1>Only in its third year, the Dix Mille Tours race meeting at the Paul Ricard High Tech Test Track in the South of France has become a set fixture on the calendar. Organised by Peter Auto, the event combines proprietary races like the Trofeo Nastro Rosso and Classic Endurance Racing with additional series, which consisted this year of the Group C Racing Series and the FIA Historic Formula 1 Championship. New for this year was the 'Nineties' Red' open only to Ferrari F40s and Ferrari 333 SPs. Further highlights included the two-hour Sixties Endurance race, which ran into the sunset and concluded Saturday's action. In addition to the races, the event also offers plenty of room both in the paddock and on the track to club members to show and exercise their cars during the lunch-breaks.
Our photographers ventured to France's lovely Mediterranean coast to catch the last breath of Summer and all the action on track, resulting in this grid-by-grid, <link#1>250-shot gallery.
