Historic Ferrari and Porsche return to Le Mans and new Porsche racer ...

One of the stars of the recent Le Mans Classic Legend was this Ferrari 512 BB Competizione. It was one of three cars built for prominent Ferrari privateers to compete in the 1978 24 Hours of Le Mans. Hastily put together, it even featured the front wing of a contemporary Ferrari Grand Prix car as a rear wing. Chassis 24131 was raced only once and retired from the class lead in the 19th hour. From the early 1980s, it was part of the collection of infamous collector Walter Medlin. Acquired by the current custodian in highly original condition three years ago, it received a sympathetic restoration before it returned to the track this summer.
Another car that returned to Le Mans was this Porsche 962C. By number, this was the very last of the legendary 962 racers. It was raced at Le Mans to tenth overall in the legendary FAT International colours in 1991. Only raced twice more, 962-177 was later displayed in the Schlumpf museum before the very last 962C was acquired at auction by the current owner.
The latest addition to the Porsche Motorsport line-up is this 911 Challenge launched today. Based on the 911 GT3 road car, it is a new entry level single marque racer. The 911 Challenge will be eligible for a variety of one-make series around the world from the 2027 season onward.

We continue where we left off last week with more news from the Monterey Peninsula. Gordon Murray Automotive followed up on last year's showcase with the introduction of the S1. Derived from the S1 LM, it is another tribute to the McLaren F1. The styling and three-seater layout are reminiscent of the early F1 prototype, while underneath the carbon fibre skin sits a 4.2-litre, 690 hp version of the high-revving V12 engine. Production of the S1 is limited to just 64 examples, all of which have already been spoken for.
With the Valen, Aston Martin introduced the most powerful front-engined V12 production car in the company's 113-year history. This is courtesy of the twin turbo, 5.2-litre V12 that has been retuned to produce 850 metric horsepower. The Valen features a bespoke carbon fibre body and will be available in limited numbers from 2027 onwards.
Porsche used The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering to reveal the wild Flachbau RS. It is a one-off inspired by the 935, based on a 2018 991 II generation 911 GT2 RS. The Flachbau RS also benefits from fine tuning by Manthey and is has been honed on the Weissach test circuit.
As a celebration of the recent racing success, Cadillac created this V-One Concept. It is basically a very mildly detuned version of the LMDh sports racer that came achingly close to winning Le Mans two months ago.

Monterey Car Week in full swing with new McLaren, Koenigsegg, Ferrari and more ...

The annual Monterey Car Week is in full swing and the lists of new cars revealed is growing quickly. One of the most interesting is certainly this McLaren McL 6GT. Based on the current generation McLaren production cars, it is inspired by the original M6GT road car, which was founder Bruce McLaren's pet project at the time he crashed fatally. The retro styling is combined with a V8 engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. Although officially still a concept car, it would not surprise us if the McL 6GT will enter (limited) production in 2027.
Swedish hypercar manufacturer, Koenigsegg, also drew inspiration from a past model when creating the track-only CCGT1. Based on the CC850 road car, it is a modern day interpretation of the one-off CCGT racing car. The CCGT1 will be produced in larger numbers (70) and is powered by a V8 that is good for up to 1,600 hp on E85 fuel.
The latest in Ferrari's one-off program is the SF90 Stradale derived CZ26. Designed by Flavio Manzoni, it was created for an American client.
Other new cars released this week include the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible, which packs the same punch as the coupe but with a slightly more forgiving chassis design for touring. Honda's luxury arm showcased the Nexera Vision concept, while German niche manufacturer Gemballa used the Monterey Car Week to take the wraps of the very wild Marsien GT.

The latest in the line of Bugatti 'Solitaire' one-ffs is this Destrier. Based on the mechanicals of the mighty Bolide, the W16 engined machine takes its name from a medieval knight's horse. The styling of the Destrier is inspired by the Type 57 road and racing cars of the 1930s. The new one-off Bugatti will be unveiled during in Monterey later in the week.
Dodge revived an iconic name from the past with the new Charger Super Bee. Based on the current generation Charger, the Super Bee is powered by a modified version of the twin-turbo straight six engine that produces a hefty 600 bhp. Production of the Charger Super Bee is limited but to how many exactly has not yet been revealed.
Taking over as the official The Quail Auction this year is Broad Arrow Auctions. For their inaugural sale at the highly exclusive event, the Hagerty-owned company consigned this Ferrari Enzo as the headliner. One of just a dozen specified for the United States market in black, the 13,268 miles from new Enzo is estimated to sell for $9 - $11 million. Another recent hypercar due to cross the block is this virtually brand-new Bugatti W16 Mistral. Fitted with $650,000 worth of options, it should find a new owner for $8 - $10 million.
While browsing the catalog, our eye was caught by this Porsche 924 Carrera GTR, which is the only car ever raced by the famous Brumos Porsche team at Le Mans. Running BF Goodrich T/A radial road tyres, it won its class. Restored to its 1982 livery, chassis 011 has a $600,000 - $800,000 pre-sale estimate.

All-new Hennessey Blackbird, McMurtry production car, new Revuelto variants and 2027 Hypercars ...

American specialist manufacturer has introduced the all-new Blackbird. Inspired by the SR71 Blackbird airplane, it represents the third generation of high performance sports cars produced by Hennessey but it is distinctly different than its predecessors. Like the Venom, it is built around a carbon-fibre composite monocoque chassis but it is powered by a brand-new naturally aspirated V8 engine that has been developed together with Ilmor. The performance target for the engine is 800 - 850 bhp and it will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Production of the Blackbird is due to begin in 2029 and will be limited to just 71 examples.
At next week's Monterey classic car week, Lamborghini will introduce two Revuelto variants. Like the name suggests, the Revuelto 60° Homage is a limited edition celebration of the Miura's 60th anniversary. More interesting will be the Revuelto SV, for which very little details have been released except that it set a new lap record at the Hockenheimring. True to the Super Veloce moniker, it will be a higher performance version of the hybrid V12 engined supercar.
The final production specifications of the very wild McMurtry Spéirling PURE have been released. The track-only, single-seat machine is more potent than the record-breaking prototype thanks to a larger battery. Only 100 examples of the Spéirling PURE will be produced with deliveries starting later this year.
Although the FIA World Endurance Championship is still in full swing, Ferrari and Peugeot have already started testing substantially improved versions of the 499P and 9X8 respectively ahead of the 2027 season.

It was all change at Le Mans this year with the inaugural Le Mans Classic Legend. Originally a biennial event, the Le Mans Classic is now annual with alternating themes split by age. For the new Legend event, the Grid 6 was carried over while Group C, Endurance Racing Legends and the Legends of Le Mans formed the new Grids 7 through 10. These raced through the night in familiar fashion with three races for each grid. There was some superb racing with fantastic cars, which included a pair of McLaren F1 GTRs, a trio of Lola Aston Martins and many more. In addition the main event, there were four support races including for GT3 Heritage and NASCAR. As always, there were numerous enthusiast clubs, concerts and special Porsche 917 and Gordon Murray demonstrations to entertain the hundreds of thousands of spectators. We have never missed an edition of the Le Mans Classic and were again on hand to capture the inaugural Le Mans Classic Legend in its entirety.
