Director Saran spills the beans about his current project with Ultimate Star, Ajith. The film, produced by Sivaji Films, is slated to begin shoot from May 4.

"The story of ‘Asal’ has been a germ of an idea in me for over a few years now. When I told it to Ajith, he said he really liked it. And we hadn't decided on a title then. And Ajith immediately asked me, what is the word for The Original in Tamil? I said ‘Asal’, and immediately knew I got my movie's title," chuckles the director, who is yet to finalise two heroines for the film.

Speaking about the film's storyline, he says it is tad complicated. "One of the strong themes that the film rests on is going against anybody who cheats someone who believes them. In this film, Ajith will openly vent his anger out on such people. But the film is not just another revenge tale," he adds.

Plans are on to shoot the film in Tokyo and Turkey, and Saran admits that Ajith is special to him. "I've worked with many heroes, but I must admit that Ajith is special to me. He was completely sick, immobile, and admitted in a hospital a few years ago, and I went to meet him. I was shocked to see he could not even move his head, while the rest of his body remained numb to him. He saw me and said, 'Keep an action story ready for me. I'll be back in two months.' You won't believe that he was back in two months, and the film we did was 'Amarkalam'. Ajith is truly special and Asal."

Don't Celebrate My Birthday - Ajith Kumar

Ajith Kumar has sent out a message to fans, requesting them not to celebrate his birthday, which falls on May 1. He wants the focus to be on the Tamils who are suffering in Sri Lanka. We reproduce the letter below :

Greetings!

I sincerely thank you for the response that was accorded to the inauguration of my film “ASAL” at Chennai recently. I convey my gratitude to my fans who could not make it but wished through my office. It has been brought to my attention that the members of my AJIT KUMAR Narpani Iyyakam have planned to celebrate my birthday falling on May 1st with huge fun fare. I sincerely feel that whole process will be highly inhuman if we celebrate my birthday on the background of our fellow Tamils languishing and suffering amidst death and pain in Srilanka.

Further to this we are aware that the General Elections are being conducted all over the Country. At this point of time, I sincerely feel our celebrations should not pose any discomfort to the authorities concerned.

Since I am leaving abroad for my shooting at the end of this month, I request my fans to circumvent the stress of trying to wish me in person. Vide this letter, I request the members of my organization to co-operate with the Iyyakam Headquarters in revamping the organizations.

Ajith fans at Viluppuram went on a 9 hour fast to express solidarity with the Lankan Tamils caught in the ongoing war. Viluppuram Ajith Fans Club President Mr.R.Senthil organised hunger protest at Viluppuram on last Sunday(Nov 09, 2008) between 8 am - 5 pm before Viluppuram District Collector Office demanding ceasefire and an end to the attacks on Tamils in the island country. Ajith and Nayathara the hit pair is back in action with a complete family entertainer; choreographer turned director Raju sundaram is wielding the role of a director with the cinematographer Arjunjanna. The story is about a laid back cop who gets into an Mission which can resolve only by his quick witted mind and his unusual charm.
The director says that” the film will have abundant commercial elements and will be a treat for Ajit fans” post Billa Ajith is giving detail importance for his looks and appearance in the film. Nayathara the Sultry and sensuous Actress plays the leading lady in the film Aegan. Actor jayaram plays a pivotal role with immense comedy scenes to keep the audiences enthralled; upcoming actor Navdeep plays the second fiddle along with preethi a new comer. The other casts include suhasini, Nasser and Livingston.
The music is scored by yuvan Shankar raja with the best peppy tunes and grasping BGM that will keep the movie rocking, the film editor is V.T vijayan.

Suhasini acts as Mother of Ajith

There are lots of Dangers in acting as the Mother of Actions Heroes. At least in a single scene, they may be subjected to face the anger of Villains, and their hands may be tied and suffer lots of similar problems etc. Starting from the Kannamal of yesteryears to the Seetha and Saranya of the present, no one is spared from these kinds of tortures. But, it is a matter surprise that-Suhasini has accepted to act as the Mother. Otherwise, in the small screen, she analyzes and comments about each and every film.

She is acting as the Mother of Ajith in the film "Eagan", directed by Raju Sundaram. In the beginning, Rajusundaram thought about many faces for this character. There are lots of emotional scenes between the Mother and Son in this film. So, he wanted an Actress who can express emotions very effectively.

Like a flash he remembered about Suhasini. Suhasini also happily accepted to act as the Mother of Ajith. She is expressing all kinds of emotions in the shooting which is going on in Yercaud.

Is it right to speak about an Ajith's film and not to give any information about "Thala"? Ajith went to the Cannes Film Festival. As he was walking in the Airport, a Lady walking before him dropped her Kerchief without knowledge. Ajith took that Kerchief and gave it to her. When that Lady identified that-It was Ajith who took and gave her Kerchief, she was dumbfounded for sometime. Ultimate Star Ajith came and patted her slightly on her shoulders and asked her to cool off and moved on! A friend of Ajith who traveled with Ajith was proudly expressing this simplicity of Ajith!

Aegan - Not just action

Contrary to expectations that Ajith’s Aegan will be an all out action ride, the movies crew has given us a feeler about its other side. Yes, Aegan will have action aplenty, enough to satiate all Ultimate Star fans but it will not be just action, there will be a strong sentimental current running through the movie. The outline of the story that

we have heard of suggests that lots of family emotions will be at play in this movie.

In Aegan, Ajith’s father marries a second time. Ajith’s foster brother, played by Navdeep, is born out of the marriage. The situations in the life of such a family, the sentiments involved between a step mother and son, are said to form a pivotal portion of the story. Suhasini plays the role of the second wife. The Aegan crew says that Ajith will be seen in many emotionally moving scenes and that will definitely grab our attention.

Also, the crew has revealed that a very stylish duet featuring Ajith and Nayanthara, one that will catch everyone’s eye is set to be shot very soon. In fact, news is that the crew is only waiting for Ajith to return from Cannes where he was present on the 18th along with Vishnuvardhan for the screening of Billa. So, Aegan is not just another action ride, we will get to see Ajith in yet another potentially moving performance after Kreedom. Let’s wait and watch.

"Billa" has gone to participate in the Cannes Film Festival. Ajith has also gone to this Festival. The news of the decision taken by Ajith is much more important than the Cannes Film Festival news.

Let's look behind a small flashback of some of the past happenings. RajiniKanth's Daughter Soundarya has joined hands with Warner Brothers to produce a film in her new banner. For this, she has even given Advance to Ajith. This new Company is in the plans to produce the film "Billa-2". For this, she spoke about the Salary to Vishnuvardhan, the Director of the film "Billa". The Salary demanded by him has shocked Soundarya. So, she came to a decision and met Ajith.

She screened and showed some scenes of the film "Sultan the Warrior", that is being directed by her. Ajith also saw this and he expressed his surprise-Wow… and appreciated her very much. Soundarya used this opportunity and conveyed the news with excitement that-"I will direct the film "Billa-2"". Ajith also accepted to her film direction proposal immediately.

Soundarya got the blessings from her Daddy RajiniKanth for her daring venture. Within few days, the formal and colorful announcement of this film is to come-out. All the refusals in the World, seems to be the beginning of something new things like this!

Soundarya Rajnikanth the younger daughter of the superstar is ready to roll out her forthcoming venture titled Billa 2. This film will be produced at a whooping cost of Rs.30 crores and this project will take off in 2009 after Ajith fulfills his commitment with Shivaji Productions. This will also be the first venture of Warner Brothers after tying up with Ocher Studios the production firm of Soundarya. Warner Bros. Pictures India has entered into an exclusive multi-picture deal with Soundarya Rajnikanth’s Ocher Studios. The pact covers the production and distribution of Live-Action South Indian language films to be released by Warner Bros.

When Soundarya conceived the idea of making Biila2, Rajnikanth himself had suggested that Ajith would be the right choice to do the lead role. The film would be directed by Vishnuvardhan, who wielded megaphone for Billa remake. Ajith has been paid an astounding amount Rs.10 crores for this venture. So ‘thala’ has now become the highest paid actor in Tamil cinema after Rajnikanth. This film will be a sequel to Billa.

Tamil actor Ajith Kumar is headed for Cannes where his movie Billa will be screened.

"Kumar is sure of a grand reception for the movie when it will be screened May 18 in Grey Three screen. Probably, this is the only movie in the world re-made thrice," the actor's publicist said.

Made in Hindi starring Amitabh Bachchan in 1978 as Don - it has had three remakes. The first in Tamil as Billa starring Rajnikanth, later in original title in Hindi starring Shah Rukh Khan and finally in Tamil again featuring Ajith Kumar.

Film personalities familiar with Cannes pointed out that a multiple remake will have more than a curiosity value there.

Since the movie resuscitated his career, Kumar is bearing the costs of an all-expenses-paid holiday in the French Riviera for the Billa team, which is set to fly to Paris Saturday, his publicist added.

Movie distribution major Moser Baer will have a stall at Cannes following the interest generated for its products last year.

Ajit - Once again stunning charming & slim look!!!

It was before 4 years that there was a talk around the cine industry that Ajit is very bulky and his cine career got over. Ajit has strongly replied everyone by reducing his weight and Paramasivan's hit. Now once again Ajit has proved that he cant be compared with anyone. After noticing the Ajit's Aegan photo session, there is a talk around the industry and fans that Ajit seems bulky once again.

Abuzz that Ajit has only lifted his weight for that character and now he has shelved his weight once again and now looking very charming and stylish. Today our Orkut Ajit fans community moderators had met Ajit in chennai's leading hotel and had a conversation with him. While talking with them he has said that he is going to shelve his weight some more as he is also doing an another role in Aegan which is similar to college student. Because of this Ajit has politely refused to took any photograph.

It's a well known fact that Sivaji Productions is ready to commence
its next project and that the hero is Ajith. Earlier it was said that
Vishnuvardhan would direct that movie. But the chance of directing
the movie has now gone to Venkat Prabhu.

As a matter of fact, the opportunity to direct 'Aegan' itself was
about to go to Venkat Prabhu. But since the producer Ayngaran
Internationals preferred Raju Sundaram, Venkat could not get the
opportunity.

Ajith however, was keen to give opportunity to Venkat. He asked the
young director to tell the story to Sivaji Productions. The story
narrated by him was liked by the producers and hence he got the
chance to direct Ajith's movie.

But let us keep our fingers crossed, as we cannot be sure of anything
since everything keeps changing till it is made official.

Shriya Back as Ajit’s heroine?

Has Shriya made up with Ajit ? There is a buzz that she is back as heroine in choreographer Raju Sundaram's untitled film for Ayngaran. Remember, she lost out this coveted role because she did an item number with Vadivel in Indiralokathil Naa Azhagappan, which Ajith feels is not cool for a top heroine to do!

Last week Shriya who was in Chennai shooting for Kandasamy met up one night over dinner with "good friend" Trisha at Dakshin in Park Sheraton. The buzz is that it was Trisha who advised her to call up Ajit and wish him on becoming a father.

And when Shriya called up "Thalai" to wish him, the cool-as-cucumber star was impressed by her talk. Much before that, the real "superstar of Kollywood" had told him never to mix personal likes and dislikes with one's work, and at some point in his career he should work with people like Vadivel with whom he had ideological differences.

The grapevine has it that after Shriya spoke to Ajit, the ice between them has melted, and he has no objection to being paired with her. It was sweet music for Raju Sundaram as his mission for a glamorous replacement heroine for Shriya had ended in a fiasco. He has to start the film from February first week if it has to release for August 15, and now if Shriya makes some adjustments with her dates it is possible for her to be a part of the project.

Meanwhile there has not been any official statement from the producer or the director's side to confirm the news. There have been reports that Ayesha Takia and Sneha Ullal were keen to do the film. We will have to wait for the official announcement to come sometime after Pongal!

Ajith Follows Rajini’s Advice

Ajith is seen wearing a diamond ring and a gold bracelet nowadays. Previously Ajith did not have the habit of wearing ring or bracelet on his hand.

When enquired about this, sources close to him has said that this is on the advice given by Super star Rajini Kanth.

Of late Ajith has become close to Rajini and it is because of this that the Superstar had even okayed Ajith to do the remake of his film Billa. When Ajith had met Rajini to speak about Billa, the super star is said to have advised him to wear a diamond ring.

Girl baby to Ajith and Shalini

The wait is over! Ajith and Shalini are now blessed with a bundle of joy. Shalini gave birth to a girl child in the early hours (1.40 AM. - 2.10 AM) of today.

Shalini was admitted in Appollo Hospital in Chennai yesterday morning. The child was born after a caesarian operation. Both the mother and child are in good condition, confirm the sources close to the couple.

The couple couldn’t have had a better New Year gift. Ajith, who is basking in the glory of the success of his latest film ‘Billa’, is on cloud nine. The couple is quite happy to have a new entrant in their life.

It’s worth recalling that Ajith said in a press meet conducted prior to the release of ‘Billa’ that he or Shalini had no choice regarding the gender of the girl. "We want the child to be healthy", was his response.

Ajith's Billa is receiving positive reviews and its stylish and slick presentation has been the toast of the town these days. The trade is delirious about its performance and the fans have lapped it up. Following this, Ajith's next project is said to be with Raju Sundaram funded by London Karunas. There seems to be a bevy of offers from different film companies as well who are vying with each other for Ajith's call sheet. In a recent television interview, the star himself has hinted that he might once again be teaming up with director K S Ravikumar. There is also a talk that is doing the rounds in the industry is that A V M films and Pokkiri producer Kanakadhara movies are also keen to cast the ultimate star in their forthcoming ventures. Meanwhile Prabhu who was Ajith's costar in Billa is said to have been smitten by his bonhomie and has openly appreciated about the latter's geniality and camaraderie. It has also been alleged that Sivaji films is also desirous of doing a film with Ajith. Speculations are rife that Ajith may give green signal to them. Though there are different combinations and opinions about his future projects and producers, confirmed information is still awaited.

Ajit cemented his standing as the number one opener in Kollywood with his latest slick action movie Billa which soared past lofty expectations as it opened to an unbelievable 97 percent from 10 Chennai screens. It is the second best opening in the history of CBO, and Ajit's finest opening! In Mount Road area, the film opened in four screens- Sathyam, Inox, Woodlands and Albert and in three days did 48 shows and reported 100 percent! Truly incredible, Ajit is the king of kings! Actually Billa, would be number 1 to 5 in our CBO, because the rest of the movies put together do not match up to its collections!

To remake a 27-year old Rajinikanth film with another actor at a time when he is still the superstar, is a major challenge for any director. But Vishnu Vardhan is a daring young man who took up the challenge along with Ajit and they have come out with a fresh new Billa, an escapist comic book like fantasy film, which has been faithful to the original in spirit and soul. Spiffily shot and stylishly packaged, the remake is slick and will certainly appeal to today’s youth audiences.
Vishnu’s Billa is the first designer-look Kollywood film with classy action cuts. It's a technically chic, racy, engrossing entertainer with a Hollywood look. The director wears his Hollywood DVD influence on his sleeve, the way a shot is framed, and with black and white colours dominating as the camera angles convey style! Ajit looks sensational and clearly he is at home, playing dual roles of Billa and Velu. He is suave, dashing, and debonair and has terrific screen presence which makes the film work big time. You just cannot think of any other actor in Tamil donning the role made memorable by Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth special: The Boss is back

The film is set in Malaysia to give it a rich look. Billa (Ajit) is a modern day suited and booted underworld don who moves around in the company of two glamour girls Sasha (Nayanthara) and CJ (Namitha) who are part of his gang. Billa deals in all nefarious activities like gun running and drugs and has connections with international mafia gangs. The police force in 11 countries is in hot pursuit of Billa who they feel will lead them to Jagdish, the kingpin behind all the illegal operations. After successfully dodging the cops across the world, Billa is eventually pinned down by a sincere DCP of the Malaysian police Jaiprakash (Prabhu) after a spectacular car chase in which he is fatally injured.

Vishnu: Ajit is a cool dude

Now Jai (Prabhu) sees Billa’s death as an opportunity to uncover the entire mob ring by replacing him with a look-alike Velu (Ajit) a petty small time crook and a simpleton to infiltrate into the mafia. Velu alias Billa is able to do the impossible by getting all the information that Jai wanted except about Jagdish the master brain of the underworld. But it's when Jai gets killed, that the real problem arises because he was the only man who knew that the real Billa is dead, and that Velu is actually a police mole. The other police officers investigating the case Gokulnath (Rahman) from the Interpol and the local police chief Anil (Aditya) refuses to believe Velu’s statement that he is not Billa when he is caught and interrogated. Velu escapes from police custody and with the help of Sasha uncover the shocking truth about the identity of Jagdish, which leads to a stunning climax.

The director and his team change the norms of commercial Tamil cinema and breaks new ground by having a script comprising of no more than six- seven dialogue tracks, there is no lengthy dialogues, mush or melodrama, all essential ingredients for mass masala films. The EQ (emotional quotient) which is there in large doses in Tamil films is absent here as Vishnu and Ajit are targeting only the multiplex audiences and they are quite honest about it. Yuvan’s title track and theme music is one of the highlights of the film, though the songs fall flat! The re-mix title song My name is Billa… is no patch on the original and lacks its fervor, while the other re-mix number Vethalaiya Pottendi… has a good beat that makes you dance and is well shot The only mass number is Seval Kodi.., with Vijay Yesudas’s striking voice and colourful picturisation .

For Vishnu Vardhan, a one-time assistant of the guru of cinematography Santosh Sivan, everything is visual and is dictated by the camera. Billa is a film where characters are playing mind games. So Vishnu’s cameraman Nirav Shah has used the super 35 mm and his camera is brilliant displaying an array of flourishes- freeze frames, optical dissolves, colour saturated images, giving a static energy to the frames, aided by Sreekar Prasad’s razor sharp editing. The action scenes have been superbly choreographed by William Ong and are a major highlight.
Billa is an out and out Ajit film. Don’t forget to carry a whistle with you when you watch Ajit meld into two characters- Billa with his Armani suit, Rayban glasses, has a Bond look about him and is cucumber cool while Velu is a riot as he brings the house down with typical one-liners (Athu aaru thalai, Naan oru thalai). Ajit brings to Tamil cinema a desification of Steven Segal, Van Damme style of pure high octane action and humour. He seems to be telling the audiences to just sit back and enjoy the fireworks. In short Ajit as Billa is a rocker!

Nayanthara has given her famous six-yard saris a miss and has decided to go full throttle to look her sexiest best in sizzling hot micro-mini shorts, leather jacket, tall boots! The gorgeous Nayan as Sasha is a show stopper and no Tamil heroine has looked so glamorous on screen in recent times, thanks to her right attitude and stylist Anu Vardhan. Her tan make-up and her costumes are designed with the intention to make your jaw drop. She has a beautiful body which she flaunts daringly and has no qualms about appearing in a two-piece string bikini and is also able to bring out the cold aloofness and bitterness of her character.

All about Billa :

Namitha as CJ oozes sex appeal, is surprisingly restrained and her silences give meaning to the deep loyalty and devotion that her character has for Billa. Prabhu as the police officer is a delight while Rahman and Aditya are adequate. New girl Rose Dawn is a disappointment in the item number and is no match to Helen or Kareena’s sensuous jig.

Billa delivers the goods with its great star cast, a designer look, technical glitz, perfect chemistry making it an entertainment extravaganza. Fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride. Don’t miss it.

Reservations for the much-awaited Ajith-starrer Billa, remake of superstar Rajinikanth' s yesteryear smash hit, started this Sunday, without any prior announcement when the clock struck 12 a.m. Ajith's fans, curious to know the date of commencement of booking, had been in touch with the theaters where it is scheduled to be screened.

Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai's premium multiplex, which has online booking as well as phone booking, had informed the fans on Sunday evening that it would start at 12 midnight. Some of the fans, who normally crash early, had their alarms set to wake them up at 12 a.m. so as to be the first to book tickets for the first show. The booking opened a few minutes before midnight and Sathyam Cinemas' call center was flooded with calls, which almost jammed the several lines they had engaged for this purpose. Those who woke up an hour late were surprised to find that the tickets for the first three days were booked within just one hour. Sathyam, the biggest screen in the multiplex, with more than a thousand seats, is screening four shows which makes it 11,000 seats approximately for the first three days. Amazingly, all this was booked in just an hour. This usually happens only for Rajinikanth movies. The scene wasn't any different in the other theaters as serpentine queues were seen outside INOX, another multiplex, scheduled to open its counters at 9 a.m. this morning witnessed huge crowds gathering outside the mall where it is housed but they however had to return disappointed as they later announced that it will be issued only tomorrow, December 11th. Mammoth crowds waiting to book their tickets has jammed the roads leading to Kasi Theatre, which also screens Billa. According to our sources, the police are having a tough time controlling the traffic as well as the crowd. With the booking for the first day closed within an hour, fans are also demanding a special show a day before the release of the movie.

The last time theaters witnessed such huge crowds was for this year's biggest hit Sivaji. Guess all the publicity and hype has paid off well.

Billa Audio

Finally, the audio release date of the much-awaited movie, Billa, is out. This Ajith-Nayanthara- starrer's theatrical trailer was screened during the intermission of Om Shanti Om at Sathyam Cinemas to feel the pulse of the audience and much to their surprise they were shocked to see the audience screaming at the very sight of Ajith and Nayanthara on screen. This in itself is a great achievement for both the producer and the director of the film.

The audio release of Billa is slated to take place on Monday, 26th November 2007. Billa's official announcement

Ajith's fans can rest in peace now. Ultimate Star's Billa 2007 was initially expected to hit the theatres for Diwali. But now, an official announcement from the producer's side divulged that the audio release of the film is slated for the 15th of November and the film itself will be released two weeks afterwards on the 30th of November. While talking to the media, producer Suresh said that the shooting of the film is completed and the crew is currently busy at Mumbai with the post production work.

He further added that there are many special effects scenes in the film which would certainly have the audience baffled with its technical finesse. When questioned about the number of prints for Billa, the producer said that they intend to release the film with 250 prints and a special feature about Billa 2007 will be its English subtitles primarily aimed at the international audience. Stunt scenes in the film have been choreographed by William Aang who has worked in numerous Jackie Chan films. In addition to Ajith, Billa features Nayantara, Namitha and Prabhu and the film is directed by Vishnuvardhan.
