<p><span style="color: #333333;"><strong>Sacramento, California</strong> &#8211; November 3, 2016 &#8211; The Umoja Community Education Foundation, celebrating the Umoja Community&#8217;s Tenth Anniversary serving over 4,000 African American and other historically under-resourced students across 45 California Community Colleges, will hold its Umoja XII Conference in Los Angeles on November 4-5, 2016.</span></p>

<p><em><span style="color: #333333;">“We are bringing together students, instructors, administrators, speakers and leaders from around the state and nation who are vital members </span>of</em><span style="color: #333333;"><em> the Umoja Community to empower and connect our base as we focus on the students’ learning and academic success,”</em> D’Karla Assagai, Executive Director said.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #333333;">The Umoja XII Conference will be held at the Hilton LAX and is expected to attract more than 900 students, faculty, staff and administrators from our community college and California State University programs, as well as partner campuses from the University of California Office of the President (UCOP), California State University (CSU) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #333333;"><em>“The conference theme that will carry through the year is &#8220;Starting with Your Why.” Our goal is to quicken the pace at which we are addressing student performance outcomes,”</em> Dr. Teresa Aldredge, Umoja Board President and one of five founders said.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #333333;">The conference keynotes, Tavis Smiley and Nate Brown, will offer comments focused on their experiences to uplift a generation of Umoja students and assist them on their paths to success.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #333333;">The Los Angeles Community College District Chancellor, Francisco Rodriguez, offered strong support </span>of<span style="color: #333333;"> the conference and solicited many local college presidents who make up the nine-campus district along with several others in the Los Angeles area to serve as sponsors of the Umoja XII Conference.</span><br />
<span style="color: #333333;">This year, the Platinum Sponsors are the California Community College Chancellor&#8217;s Office, Los Angeles Community College District, Santa Monica College and CSU5.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #333333;">The Umoja Community Education Foundation is funded by the grant support of the California Community College Chancellor’s Office.</span></p>
