Maya and Otoya work to build his legacy in the form of an exquisite violin. Yuri and wataru become scorned lovers when they see their loves with another. Otoya and Wataru bath some more.

Wataru struggles to accept the changes in his life, embracing lost love and dealing with Kengo’s returns as a full and bitter member of the Blue Sky Party.

Nago loses IXA to Kengo. Otoya rejects Yuri for the sake of protecting the music in everyone’s heart and Wataru resolves to find his own music and make people happy.

Mio share her true feelings with Taiga and Wataru. Taiga’s facade is cracking and Wataru shows he has the courage to face conflict head on as himself.

On a second viewing of Kamen Rider Kiva the movie, it is actually very good. It has a lot of strong points to it and captures a lot of the essence of the show. The discussion covers the movie extensively and delves into some very interesting aspects of the 4 episodes. So… Malika doesn’t really enter this episode so much as we get a lot of focus on Mitchy. GomessQ says that writers don’t always come up with titles and that makes sense, but Urobuchi does write the episodes considering where the breaks in the episodes appear it would seem, so why not the titles too? The point is this is the second, at least, absurdly titled episode. That doesn’t stop it from being good or presenting some interesting things.

Ryouma Sengoku is the titular subject of this episode, but the focus shifts rapidly from him and his (unspoken) plan for apotheosis by taking on Kouta and Kaito as interns. Kouta gets some face time with DJ Sagara who waxes poetic and is later confronted by Sid about [insert ambiguous moral dilemma here]. Kaito does some more opportunistic stuff and gets beat up a bit (yeah!). Takatora sees his little brother running around with street rats and almost sees him transform. That is the long and short of it, but so much cool execution happened that this is one of the best episodes so far.

Kamen Rider Gaim 11 came out and capped off the first Quarter of the show via a little voice over from Kouta. Thank you Mr. Urobuchi for putting a clear point of demarcation for the end of the first part and the start of the second. It’s refreshing that one of these shows would make it really clear, though it is strange that viewers probably can’t identify who is who in Team Gaim besides the principals at a glance. These 11 episodes are full of that sort of thing; there are many ups and downs so far in this show that we all like. With Claire and Tod finally back we discuss in depth episode 10 and 11 then go into some highlight and lows of the show. The second half of our discussion is coming soon, so look forward to more strong opinions about dancing fruit samurai pokemon Riders coming soon.

OOO is getting better and better at this point. Some relationships develop, Ankh and Eiji reach an agreement by episode 16 that they continue to work on throughout the rest of the quarter. Gouto comes around to being a little nicer and Kamen Rider Birth debuts. A lot of intersting things start getting set up in this part of the show and we all really enjoyed talking about it.

In a shocking turn of events, the Pierre Alfonso Oren character isn’t a huge blatantly offensive smear against anyone in the LGBT community… I think. This particular CIS trio wasn’t anyway. Let’s us know if we’re nuts (pun really not intended). A lot more than potential queer bashing happens in this episode, Kaito’s Alliance falls apart, the Nutty Duo strike out on their own and a real live adult who has been to war steps into this so-called game and shakes things up, he may even get a little meta about the show in his soliloquy. This could be very good if Urobuchi keeps it up.

So this may be the worst episode EVER for Kamen Rider Gaim. We more or less conclude that but take an interesting road to get there. Along the way GomessQ and IllusClaire give Pez a hard time about not knowing the words to a Queen song while Grimmhelm stays silent on the subject and Mewzard possibly misrepresents his knowledge of their vaunted catalogue. We also touch on offensive stereotypes, which is probably something to expect in the next Gaim episode.

The unKamenCrew tackles the Super Hero Wars sequel. Long story short: the power couple didn’t really like it at all (not even their first watch through) while the other three soured on it more during the second viewing. Pez especially irritated with NOT-Shadowmoon being beaten by the Sambasaur Rangers. If nothing else, it was mostly better than SHT and fun enough to rip on.

Spoliers: The Space Spiderman (and Ikadevil) redesign is possibly the best thing in this movie.

We also discuss how Kaito is actually making this show about “Warring States,” how much of a chump Kouta is, Mitch’s dark undertones and Mai’s jealousy and dislike of Kouta butting back into the dance gang scene.

On this special episode of unKamenCast-RX Lion Maru-G leads us to discuss Politics, Religion, Original Sin, Sex and a bunch of other super serious topics. This is more than just a silly show about a guy who turns into a lion, set to a backdrop of the underbelly of Neo-Kabukicho. This is a much less linear discussion and it is mostly spoiler free, we discuss the whats but not really the whos or hows. If you’ve heard of this show but have been reticent to check it out we can firmly suggest you watch it if you like Tokusatsu at all and like good and interesting storytelling.

We all share positive words and feelings for this solid first episode: there is great world building, a thriving citizenry, a colorful cast of characters and a charming Rider who harkens back to Godai Yuusuke and aspires to be an adult. This is an interestingly different start from recent Riders and that makes us want to dance!

Haruto and Fueki fight to save Koyomi. Mayu doesn’t fight and then does. Nitou and Chimera give it their all. Once sleeping Mages awaken to the truth of their reality and decide how they’ll deal with the changes foisted upon them. Fueki and Koyomi die. Gremlin and Haruto fight for their Hopes and Koyomi is saved. In the end everyone moves on, as one might expect, but how did we like it? Listen in as we lay the ground to give Wizard the Final Judgement!

Join Claire, Tod, Grimmhlem, Mewzard and Pez for the third and final Kamentary covering the holy trinity of Rider movies. J is full of spectacle and moves a breakneck speed. J is by far the lightest of the three on story but the action and scope of the laser-focused conflict between the revived nature-loving Rider and the sinister forces of technological nihilism more than make up for any lack of depth in the script. Ishinomori’s final Rider work is strong and evokes ethos laid out in the fantastic Kamen Rider manga.

ZO carries less narrative weight than Shin but is a thematic delight from composition to editing this is a film that knows exactly what it is doing. One sequence may seem like a foreign object, but overall this is a tight piece of Rider fiction that we recommend to any fan.

Ladies and Gentleman the unKamenCrew welcomes you to join Claire and Tod for the first in a series of commentaries covering the holy trinity of Rider movies with (Grimmhlem is absent in this episode) Mewzard and Pez. There are misconceptions about these films and Shin seems to be a bit of a joke to some, but what we discover in watching and contextualizing this particular entry colors in the broad strokes of quips and the low hanging fruit of humor with an intellectual hue seldom seen in Rider and certainly not in recent entries. This is a serious look at Ishinomori’s classic character, Shin eschews pomp, iconic heroism and many trappings of the series’ 40 years… but there may not be a truer Kamen Rider.

Grimmhelm and Pez discussed in short this movie about a year before this proper commentary. They were lacking so much and Pez loves ZX so greatly that the unKamenCrew decided it was time to give this fun bit of Rider the proper treatment it deserves, it demands. Haruto is stating to trust Fueki. Mayu and Haruto become closer by confiding in one another. Koyomi tries to stand on her own to not be a burden to her friends which puts Gremlin and Wiseman at odds when he is forced to protect his daughter from the Phantom with a human heart. Medusa gives her all against Mayu who has gained new power from White Wizard after giving him Haruto’s Infinity ring. Medusa meets her end and the final Wizard Fueki needs has been born.

Kamen Rider Wizard makes a triumphal return to being an interesting show and follows it up with another good arc. Koyomi is in trouble, Medusa is asking questions, Mayu is getting ambitious, Sora feels certain he has his endgame figured out, Haruto is getting more background thanks to his teacher and Nitou is getting motivation given and taken from him, A lot is happening and it is shaping up to be interesting.

Wow. The times they are a changing for Wizard. If you’ve listened to this show for long, you know that Wizard has disappointed the unKamenCrew for very good reasons. The return of Mayu as Mage and the revelation that White Wizard doesn’t have the purest intentions, or at least the ends justify the means to him, along with the fact that Wizard will have 51 episodes and air until September 22, it seems that the people who work on the show are trying to give it a great ending. This was an exciting “quarter” to be sure.
