Despite the freezing temperatures, local runners flocked to 5-Mile Recreation Area in Upper Bidwell Park in Chico for the 9th Annual Frost or Fog 10-Mile, 1/4 Marathon & 5K.

Like, Totally Awesome, Dude!

Join us for our new and improved New Year’s Eve Run.  For three years we have hosted a free 5k (-ish) to finish off a great year and welcome a new one with health and vigor on New Year’s Eve.  This year, we’re making it better than ever!  You still get the fabulous company of the Under the Sun Events crew, chip timing, sparkling cider and coffee after the event, comradery and the celebration of a new year and good health!

Teams of up to 10 are highly encouraged to (and will be rewarded for) dressing in 80′s themed costumes!

Team Awards!
Teams of up to 10 will be competing for awards in three categories:

Fastest Overall Team
(scored by top three finishers in each team)

Best 80′s Themed Music Team
(think Flock of Seagulls, Bananarama, Madonna)

Best 80′s Themed Movie Team
(think Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink)

Best 80′s Themed Icon or Style Team
(think Pac Man, Don Johnson/Miami Vice, leg warmers)

**If you can run this race in neon high heels with pink frilly socks you may just win a special prize!

The first 100 registered participants will receive a special and unique souvenir

Yes, you can run all by yourself if you want to, we won’t force you to run with your silly friends dressed up like goofballs reliving life from 30 years ago!  We are charging a small fee this year to help cover the costs of the totally awesome Rad Rockin’ Eve Run but we won’t make you take a shirt if you don’t want one.  They are optional (but are sure to be Rad!) and will cost $17.

Monster Dash 5K

Join Discovery Bay Elementary’s DB Running Club for the Inaugural Monster Dash 5K and their goal event on Saturday, October 27. Sponsored by the Discovery Bay Elementary PTA and in conjunction with Booville, proceeds from this event will help the PTA provide much-needed funds for the school in a time when funding has been dramatically slashed.

But this event doesn’t just benefit the Discovery Bay Elementary PTA.  The largest BUSD School Team (Timber Point or Excelsior) will receive a cash donation to it’s PTA!  $2 per person representing that school will be awarded to the winner!

50 students ranging from 1st through 5th grades are running their way through a 10-week training program to prepare for this community 5K.  Bring the family to the park, invite the neighbors, call your friends and dash with the monsters!  This is a family friendly, community event and fun for everyone!  A flat and fast 5k course starts and finishes at Cornell Park and circles Willow Lake in a clock-wise fashion.  Click here for a Monster Dash 5k map.

Pre-Race Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will be available on Friday, October 26 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Booville at Discovery Bay Elementary School.  Bring the family for some Halloween fun!  Registration will also be available at this time.  If you aren’t able to make it to Booville on Friday, you can pick up your packet at Cornell Park on race morning from 7:30-8:45.

Chip Timing

Under the Sun Events will be providing disposable bib chip timing for the Inaugural Monster Dash 5K.  On the back of your bib you will find a four-inch piece of foam.  Do not remove the foam.  The chip transponder is below it.  Without it, you will not be timed.  Please be sure to wear your bib on the front of your shirt so that it can be seen at the finish line and by photographers.  Bibs and chips do not need to be returned after the event.

Race Start Times

5K starts at 9:00 a.m. near the baseball diamond at Cornell Park in Discovery Bay.

Race Check-in

Race-day packet pickup and registration will be open at 7:30 AM and will close promptly at 8:45 AM.

Awards

Get your school spirit together!  The BUSD school with the highest number of participants (team members, not including kids running for free) will receive a cash donation to the school’s PTA!  $2 per team member will be awarded to the school with the largest team!  Start recruiting!

An award will be given for the best costume!

The 5K Awards Ceremony will be held near the finish line at approximately 10:00 AM.  Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in 10-year age groups in addition to the following age groups: 0-4, 5-9, 10-14 and 15-19. An award will be given to best costume to be voted on by participants!  Wear your costume, it’s the Monster Dash!
