A Song That Gives Hope to the Hurting and Helps Them Grow Stronger

I recently started a new blog to reach out to the hurting and broken women who have survived childhood sexual abuse. One section of my blog talks about "music as therapy".

The very first song that I featured is called "Stronger", and is by one of my most favorite Christian music singers. Please go check out the new blog and also the new facebook page, and spread the word about it to a woman / women you know could use this kind of encouragement.

Video: Authentic and Unique IS the "New Black" - Black Violin- "Triumph" (2011)

The video for the strings-dominated song called "Triumph" by the amazing Black Violin duo
brought tears to my eyes because I remember when these guys were first discovered on Showtime at the Apollo several years ago. They have found a way to use their unique gifting and create a "new kind of cool" to influence children/people to break out of the constraints placed on them by society.

I mean, they survived the Apollo!! That says volumes just right there. People just assume that anything similar to classical music or rock music is not "black enough", but, obviously, African-American people's tastes are a bit more sophisticated than some people think. In my opinion, and I believe lots of you would agree, the music industry needs to do a better job of listening to their market, instead of trying to create what they "think" the market wants. (Seems to be a theme in the business world.)

If you've never heard of these Black Violin guys, now you have. Watch the video below and pass it on.

Their story is amazing ... they busted the box wide open ... there is no more box ... it's been obliterated by Black Violin.

Simply being authentic and unique is the "new black".

Being "black" is so much more than just r&b and hip hop in the music industry.

Gotta take the constraints off of our creativity so that God's gift in us can be received by the audience in the way He intended it to be received when He gave it to us. Love this!

Right and Responsibility: Using Your Gift

I'm a happy camper! I finally found another "new" {this guy is far from new, just new to me} outside the box (industry-constrained) gospel jazz AND MORE artist. Trust me when I say that this guy is a big deal. His name is KAMEKO, and he is proving to the world that creative musical people who love the Lord cannot be contained. They have to allow their gifts to flow because, as he said in his own words on his FB page:

last week I asked myself why I wanted to be a rock star ? The main answer was to prove that I could do it to those that said I couldn't. I also realized that somewhere deep inside of me I wanted to be praised for my gift to feel like I'm worth living... and then I realized that this gift does not not belong to me it's on loan, no one deserves praise or worship for being obedient and sharing gods gift with the world.

I love this video because the way that he leads us into worship is just so natural and beautiful ... and for me was totally unexpected because this guy doesn't "look" like what the industry tries to present to us as a "Christian" singer.

People that love God who are gifted and talented have the right to express it in the way that God gives it to them. Actually, not just a right, but a responsibility. He's definitely leading by example.
