Final fantasy XIV

I got to rank 7 finally, at last I found the great spot after visiting all camps.
There is a cool and dangerous place in the left upper map: a cave!
Well as soon as you enter a scavenger kills you...so it's not a big deal. But I want to see that day I will revenge on that monster and I will finally be able to explore what's down there!

They say the camps are safe ? Well here I died. Those two NPCs say that they work hard to keep the camp safe.

Then going across some hills and mountains, I managed to glitch up the game. Nothing really happened to my character. I was wanting to reach that place that you can't access right now, by just going under it, but my game soon finished when I got into a cave with these mobs (lighining beetle):

I wonder their stats.

Anyhow, I am now wondering how to repair my weapon. I need the copper nugget and I just found out you need fire shards and copper. Now I have to become a goldsmith and then a crafter, what a mess..

I started to get bored of the game, somehow. It's all about monster killing, I had too much on that in my gaming life. Maybe I should change class, and I have never had many parties to play with so far, that is the true real part of the game. Once I played with more powerful guys than me and it was cool, but it also feels so obligated, that somehow you have to play haha

I made it to repair my weapon and that was easy, it's in a place in town where many sell stuff. To change class to goldsmith just swap the main hand weapon. Then on inventory select the weapon and select repair. Be sure to have the proper material.

I guess I will change the character anyway... thaumaturgy is boring. If I think of alchemist as such Full Metal Alchemist is, well ye'r sure 'll giv it a try, but it is unlikely not! Think about the guy at the adventure's guild, his english is similar to Shakespeare, it's not that bad.

Ubuntu 10.04 vs openSuse 11.3

I've been into Ubuntu for so long, I'd say two years so far.

It was easier to use and it often gave me no problems. With the new Ubuntu 10.04 I gotta say the problems started. The upper panel, works worse than ever. Ubuntu 9.10 had a better panel for sure. Sometimes the "useful" nm-applet doesn't start, and I think, that even the pro out there, would have trouble connecting to a wireless network without. The graphics didn't change a bit, only the theme, but that's not what I value an operative system for,anyway.

Why did they put the X on the window on the left ? They like to change don't they?

With those few annoying things, I had been thinking to change distro. I always had to waste at least an hour per week on fixes read on the web. Somehow that's all why I tried slackware, debian and now as the last, I gave a try to openSuse.

Certainly there are pros and cons, but so far the good of openSuse is that it is easier to customize than Ubuntu.

The control center has many options and it really feels like a stable operative system. Ubuntu often had the likes of having too many patches released, what for, I'd say, when they often messed up the working things!
I believe that Ubuntu had a better usage over the ram, with this blogger alone Suse is using 300 MB, still alright.

Ubuntu is still the fastest in loading, but what matters me most is the stability, and as we see, it's got its price.

2200BG wireless worked right away, the intel chip is able to reproduce the desktop effects.

Linux touchpad configuration

I've been fixing the last annoyance left.
On linux, both Ubuntu and openSuse, mess up my touchpad.
The right button works as a down scroll and right click, and the left button works as scroll up and left click.
Using xev on terminal I've noticed these two events

Linux Audio on laptops : internal speakers don't work

In my situation, only the headphone jack was working. While somehow this used laptop I got off eBay has great speakers, well I was wishing to try audio out.

So far the web does the usual forum we all know for Ubuntu. This definitely works for any distro.

All I had to do was to add this line:

options snd-hda-intel model=lg

at /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

my model is indeed an LG tx note.

I am saying wow! The speakers do indeed work, they have good sound.
What I only need now is to fix the mouse buttons, apparently the right scrolls down and the left up.
Gotta install Suse now. Ubuntu isn't giving me much feeling lately.

I hate laptop stickers, how to remove them

Yes, what the hell did they do them for anyway?
Think about the windows xp sticker :

I like a bit more the centrino one but the XP one is metallic and I hate it.
Then let's think about the usual huge sticker that reveals the specs on the right.
Why do some people leave those stickers on ? Yes it's a show off.

Anyway I removed a windows license sticker once and it's not too difficult to remove the glue. Take a pencil rubber and erase the glue up. Yes, try it, it won't break.
Use your nails to raise it up a bit then use a pair of tongs and peel it of nicely:

Shitty sticker! Farewell.

I will leave that, but probably it's going to be gone soon...

Blu-ray VS dvd ?

Whenever I finish my dvds, I wonder if I should upgrade to the new format.
Somehow it feels so new and huge, I would be able to copy more than 6 movies (~700MB each) in a disk and I would not have to sort every time the files to reach < 4,37 GB size. That's one feature I think misses any burning program, a quick sort with chosen criteria that enables you to burn fast, without too many calculations on the human side (e.g if you are at 4,10 GB, you still can add a 200 MB file to optimize the dvd!) Maybe a feature that split videos will be nice too, wouldn't it? I think I will make this program one day, but it's going to take me a while, I am still developing basic C, nothing will let me achieve that without further knowledge. We will see. Somehow I guess I could just buy more HDs and have all the stuff inside it. Yet a dvd lives more, and the files will be fewer if one dvd is broken. If the hard disk breaks you lose tons of movies altogether. Going back to the topic on here, facts speak well. I will make a fast comparison table.

Mission against terror game review (short)

Short review, the game is shit. Ar least for me. I kind of have been caught by the females in their site (here)
Doesn't it seem like a phishing situation here? I guess I really thought to see that kind of graphics but I was let down with an old direct x 7 alike graphic, maybe a little better than tomb raider 1's one. But aren't we in 2010? Why making games with such an old retard look and such a crazy gameplay. I feel sorry for those game companies, what are they going to accomplish this way? It's time for them to wake up, it's not the first game I see made up that way. I know I would love to program games and participate in the creation of one, one day.

Yes, it sucks.

Final fantasy XIV test tryout

So the game so far seems the usual rpg, where you are trapped in a huge world and you don't know what to do in it. Yes, I kind of get lost easy.
Graphics are awesome, if I say it. The music doesn't seem that boring already like the usual, yeah you know it?
So give it a try. You might need for sure a good spec'd pc to perform well on this game. Mine runs just fine at the Full HD standard resolution.

I track some log about this game. After all I am a beta tester, and I don't mind typing a bit.
With the though in mind that this is a FF game, well I guess I never played a mmorpg. I never have been able to get addicted to one. FIrst off they always require a fee, then they seem to never end right?
The first times you have the quest , the boring quests to do.

I did the first one, to kill some rats. But now I am stuck already, what shall I do? The guy that gave me the first mission told me to go to the other guilds but I got bailed out form the Musketeers one, they said I can't move around just yet and whatever the fuck happened!

I guess I will have to form parties now, I managed to die once by the way. You sort of revive for free but you stay "weakened " for a while !

Final fantasy XIV

I finallly got my hands on the beta after long waiting processes on their site, as it seems they were having congestion problems. So I got my beta key and registered it to the account.
When you download the client it seems that it's going to take few time, but soon you realize it's not so fast. One thing I read on a website was to open the router ports and such. I just cut throught that hassle and just put my pc ip into the DMZ of the router, so the client was not slow anymore.

Yet..I got stuck at 99.9 % and all I needed was one last file. You check out the document folder and you see My Games and inside that there is the FFXIV folder to check out. You see what files you need. You even understand that the whole client is a p2p torrent program. Nothing bad with that, yet I guess uTorrent is faster.
At any rate the last file is here for who is stuck at 99.9%

Put it back in the folder (on Windows 7 it's in Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads ) and restart the client. You should be just fine!

Old notebook ? Go for Ubuntu 10.04 alternate

I had this old satellite 1700 (spec'd at 700 mhz and 128 ram), win2k worked great on it, but we know too well it's not safe to use these days.
Ubuntu basic desktop release doesn't even boot, but alternate works great! Go for it.

Ubuntu 10.04 ipw2200 make it work

So many fix around the web, but few had my ipw2200 interface work on ubuntu 10.04.
After some tries out I finally made it to work.
If you get this ipw2200 firmware error detected and similar when doing dmesg | grep ipw2200,
all you have to do is to get the new firmware here here

I got the latest version 3.1.
Extract the package where you want (you can do it either in terminal, or using the graphic extractor), then go to the terminal, become root or use sudo, and copy the firmware files into /lib/firmware/
/lib/firmware/

then reboot and all is done!
