And then .. other day someone called my wife pretending to be calling from a big organization we trust - with of course caller ID masked to match

And the latest was extra ordinary - we both were sitting on the dining table and then she ran to pick her phone just to figure out someone was calling her with my phone number/picture as caller 😀

I feel the fast developments in technology (Gen-AI and all) is going to increase a lot of "business" for scammers .. we need to raise our collective consciousness to make sure that सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः 🙏

knowing is NOT linear (from 0 to 100) ... it is more circular (0 to 360 degree) .. like many things seemingly "straight" are "curvy" .. if you know too much, do you end up getting results of as if you know nothing?

i recently was returning back home .. and at airport, picked up a cab .. when the guy started taking little different route, i showed some doubts - so, he asked to put on GPS .. and i thought i know my way home from our local airport well enough ... the map showed something different at one point midway and i said ignore it and take my "usual" route - he did unwillingly agree to - and then we were stuck enroute with some special weekend construction closures - which i did not (of course) know of :(

i thought i know the route - but it should be past tense "i knew" the route from airport to my home (as it was yesterday) - today, is a new day with new possibilities - because i think i know "enough" i ignore new info (and willingness to openly accept different possibilities)

based on true story ..

it was peak of monsoon season in bhaaratam .. every year, heavy downpour usually disrupts major city of mumbai at least for a day or two - which is otherwise called 24x7 non-stop (unstoppable) maximum city .. our flights were booked from Mumbai airport in such a time (one cannot predict the exact day when such situation will align and hence you hope for best) .. plus we 3 had to travel by train from amdavaad to Mumbai for our international flights .. We got to experience Tejas express in the process .. Just a day or two ago, our son asked a friend - what they want from bhaaratam .. and in response he received a specific image - of what they had liked from the past .. specific "kutchi peda" from some shop (not a chain) .. he casually thought of ignoring such request which was equivalent to try and "find a needle in the haystack" :-D

but i felt little more adventurous .. having some time (and network connectivity) on hand - i gave the image to google .. and it searched up a shop which was far off (maybe somewhere in "bhuj" or "mundra" - a city far off in further west from amdavaad) .. i could also find a phone number and gave it a try as long shot .. the guy mentioned it is far off from amdavaad - and we did not have enough time to try "porter" (app that has become popular in bhaaratam to get things - even across cities) .. but on further probing, i figured out that they do regularly send peda (perishable dessert item) to mumbai .. and have a shop (outlet for retail purchase) there as well ... i became further adventurous and placed order for a packet of kutchi peda from 'bhuj' (or some such far off place) while sitting in amdavaad to be delivered in Mumbai ... the timing of heavy rains all along made it further adventurous .. but finally, while being on long train journey and back and forth calling/texting over a long period - we could finally get perishable food item delivered from some 800+ kms (that too in middle of heavy rain and severe weather condition) in a place where we did not live .. thanks to technology and enterprising people involved .. just to be able to reinforce belief in the saying "where there is a will there is a way - or there are peda" [it is a different story that the package flew several thousand kilometers from mumbai to toronto - via few in between stops - and then reached our son's friend - probably in Ottawa after being stuck in refrigerator for several days]

As I mentioned in the last post, I am listening to the audio version of "The Science of Getting Rich" these days .. and today, Chap. 14 (The Impression of Increase) ends with a sentence "What I want for myself, I want for everybody."

I was trying to get my car through busy intersection before the orange light turns red and was wondering how can I wish every car behind me too can also feel the "increase of life" .. Then, it occurred to me that I cannot hope that the light stays green for all of them (that would be hurting the traffic for the intersecting street and impractical) .. so, I thought I can at least pray everyone reaches to their intended destination safely and in time (no matter when the light turns green again) and that is "ॐ सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयः। सर्वे भद्रणिपश्यन्तु मा कश्चिद्दुःख भाग भवेत्॥"

Wattles (rather listening audio recorded version from LibraVox during commute by car) .. and getting reminded of this statement is very powerful Nature is friendly to your plans. On a long international flight to home after couple of days being outside, we were randomly given K16 & K17 (middle seats as shown above) .. earlier, flight seats were not being charged but now people pay premium to get their choice (like window) so, it is tricky to even request someone to swap .. emotional plea - like we are husband/wife is also not very effective 😛

I quickly realized, there was one more couple L17 & L18 (both with window but not adjacent) .. so, I requested and encouraged 3-way movements that made it win-win ... person with premium window still retained window (L16 to L18), and in the process we got next to each other (with window as bonus) .. in the joy of others lies our own was truly experienced, when you want good for all, universe is more friendly to your plans and schemes

I still remember .. nearby grocery store where I had interesting encounter about helping .. yet, at same place yesterday, l attempted to "help" (that too, unsolicited) .. but luckily it turned out pleasant 😊

It was crowded and I was waiting behind a stranger lady .. who happened to quickly grab few KitKat candies from a shelf near the checkout counter .. and couldn't resist asking her - how much were they for (my guess was, they were each 1.99) .. she said just $1 each .. still, I tried to "sell" her big box of 50 candies at less than $7 (the unsold Halloween stock marked down for "clearance") 😁

She was little skeptical .. (why would a stranger fellow shopper want to help save her money) .. so, I further insisted - "should I go grab it for you?" .. somehow, she could not disagree and I ran out of my queue to not only get the box but also take picture of the details .. (Thankfully, I was back before it was her turn to put her items on the conveyor belt - so noone was hopefully annoyed with my extra zealous "help")

I did make her spend more than double of what she was initially planning to .. but she got 50 candies in place of 3 (and I just got little joy and this blog post!) 😁

our beloved knife 🗡which has not only adorned our kitchen but also kept it "sharp" has been generally obedient and conforming for years ... but one day this week, it felt adventurous 😎.. it decided to wander in the forbidden parts of the dishwasher .. forget about asking for permission, it did not even inform us about its explorative journey .. (we could have at least warned or educated 😁) ...

and, when we started search and rescue operation after it went missing, you can imagine from the picture above as to where did we finally find it from .. it had slipped (without anyone noticing) on the floor of the machine - in the heart of the battle - where it had to bear the brunt of the maximum heat ... the hot water helps remove the grease and stains faster but like anything else, "excess is harmful" .. and the consequences our sharp weapon had to face is visible .. it has undergone major (irreversible) "deformation" .. extreme conditions it experienced has changed its "face" forever ...

in the age of "use and throw" (or "single use") we were tempted to let it go and enjoy its after-life .. but then the miser hidden inside me prompted to test it one more time before we add to the ever-growing landfills .. and yes, it needs little different way of handling .. but it works! it may be deformed (and differently abled) but it is functional .. in fact, as sharp as it was earlier ..

It reminded me of a phrase "Brownouts may not be burnouts" from the book "Tough Times Never Last But Tough People Do" long time ago

when we keep using our essential kitchen accessory more, we will find out if our beloved knife has got any better/sharper 🤔 (and confirm if "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is applicable in this case 😊)
