WHO’S NEXT & PREMIERE CLASSE

The WHO’S NEXT and PREMIERE CLASSE trade shows held in Paris – Porte de Versalles, presenting the F/W 2011 collections, ended last Tuesday January 25th. Altogether, 54,182 buyers entered hall 1, showing a 4% rise in the attendance compared with January 10.

Especially noticeable this session, the strong French (+2.1%) and international (+6.7%) attendance: 65% for France (35,030 visitors) and 35% for the rest of the world (19,152 visitors). With increases ranging from +13 to +24%, the Italians, Spanish, Belgians and Japanese have showed their commitment to the trade show.

In January 2010, attendance had been limited to 52,258 visitors (including FASHION PASS visitors).

Key figures and information:

Pick in the attendance on Sunday with 19,448 visitors, followed by Saturday (18,278 visitors), Monday and Tuesday.

France
Once again, the French provinces were very well represented at both trade shows: 21,486 visitors, i.e. 3.5% more than January 10 and 61% of the French global attendance. The Paris and Paris region attendance remains unchanged with 13,544 visitors (-0.2%).

Europe
European buyers (France excepted) rank first, accounting for 77.5% of the international attendance at both trade shows, i.e. 14 850 visitors.

Italy takes the lead once again, accounting for most of the foreign attendance with 4,052 visitors (+21%), followed by Spain: 2 286 visitors (+23.3%) and Belgium: 1,848 visitors (+13.4%). Rise in the attendance for the following countries too, United Kingdom: +7.5% (1 030 visitors), Switzerland: +20.8% (i916 visitors) and Germany: +26.7% with 882 visitors.

Asia
Asia remains the 2nd most represented continent accounting for 12% of the international attendance with 2,304 buyers, i.e. a 17.7% growth. Japan remains the 4th most represented foreign country at both trade shows. The attendance shows a noteworthy 16.7% growth compared to January 10, with 1,456 visitors (i.e. 7.6% of international attendance). China and Hong Kong almost doubled their figures with 392 buyers (+40%). while Korea showed a 10.6% drop in attendance (220 buyers).

America
The American attendance dropped slightly (-3.2%) with 848 visitors. After the spectacular rise in attendance in January 10, the U.S. show a 6.3% drop with 386 buyers. Canada also shows a slight decrease with 190 buyers (- 4%). The same goes for Brazil with a 25.6% drop (i.e. 70 buyers).

Middle East
WHO’S NEXT & PREMIERE CLASSE are still taking advantage of the buzz generated by the MIDDLE EAST FASHION DAYS organized since October 09 in Dubai. The most compelling proof: a 26.5% rise in the Middle Eastern attendance (706 buyers, i.e. 3.7% of the foreign attendance). Leading buyers from Lebanon were especially present, followed by Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Africa
Africa represents 1.6% of the international attendance with 310 visitors. A slight 1.3% drop compared with the same session last year.

Oceania
The Australian, Caledonian, Neo-Zealand and Polynesian attendance showed a 6.3% rise with134 visitors.

Littlewoods Europe launches new spring collection

Littlewoods Europe has announced the launch of its new season collection featuring over 10,000 new product lines. The new collection includes over 6,000 new fashion lines for the whole family with extensive ranges for women, men and kids. Almost 2,000 ladies fashion lines in plus sizes are available.

New brand ranges for the Spring 2011 collection include footwear from Carvela, and Ravel plus women's fashion from Awear, Mint Velvet and Gloria Vanderbilt. New entries to the menswear collection include Goodsouls by Steve Jones, Pepe Jeans, Penguin and Palladium footwear.

Our women's ranges are packed full of key trends in very wearable styles such as gorgeous florals, pretty trims, vibrant prints and flattering colour blocking."

"2010 Style Icon Awards” is an events show that awards celebrities who are considered to be one of Korea’s representative ‘Style Icons’ for 2010.

This year, 2010 Style Icon Awards was held at the CJ E&M Center in Seoul on November 17th. This year’s event was held by Olive, women’s lifestyle channel, and Onstyle, Korea’s number one style channel. This event is aiming for Korea’s biggest and most popular style awards event for Korean stars.

Many Stars and celebrities attented at the event. Attendees of the 2010 Style Icon Awards includes, 2NE1, C.N. Korean Actress Ha Ji Won (하지원) may be famous for her role in Sex is Zero. Recently she apperared in Korean Police Drama Secret Garden. While she attented the press conference, Ha Ji Won wore a grey lace dress from Preen Pre-Fall 2010 collection with ankle boots we saw on Kim Jung Eun (김정은).

Ha Ji Won was spotted at SBS Building. With her short haircut, I almost didn't recognize that she is Ha Ji Won.

The Chelsea Stretch Lace Dress in Military Green retails for USD$1120.00 on Net-A-Porter while the grey version which Ha Ji Won (하지원) wore is on sale for USD$724.50 (30% off) at La Garçonne.

The boots definitely made her legs looks shorter, thus I am not a fan of the look.

Prints in Summer 2009 Dresses

Pattern is very important with botanical garden prints, and there are also Amer-African tribal prints and animal designs. Brushstroke marks and hazy watercolour blends of dyes that run into each other add a touch of dreamy lightness to lazy summer day frocks, tea dresses and occasion wear. Many of the currently fashionable retro inspired prints examples above are reminiscent of Vintage 1950s Calpreta cotton satinised fabrics.

In the warm toned dress line up below, the silhouette moves from the popular A-line yoke shift, to the red prom line full skirt. This red prom dress is also much more modest than bustier styles of last year. The silhouette moves back to tiered half skirts on pencil line underskirts and in the final pink dress the waist shows 1920 influence as it drops to a high hipline. As a result, skin exposure is additionally much more restrained in the 2009 summer dress.

The silhouette is changing and it is obvious a wider skirt will very soon be the norm.

So many of the examples above featured blue tones, Santorini blue, bright Yves Klein blue through to sea green blue tones, all make the blue family a major colour for 2009. These dresses below show not only the variety of the blue tone, but also the changing silhouette of the year 2009.

The silhouette of the first blue dress begins with an undefined drapery in the sleeve shoulder area. Moving along the line, the royal dress develops a slight A-line that compliments the asymmetric shoulder line. Citrus Yellow and Green Dresses - The 2009 Fashion Silhouette

Even with so many styles of dress available, the most noticeable trend for summer dresses 2009 is for a bold strong colour, with drapery in a gradually widening skirt silhouette. Fashion designers achieve this by employing double layer skirts.

Volume, once a dirty word in early noughties fashion, now seems so normal compared to just a few years ago. The shoulder line has widened and covered bare shoulders giving a fifties/early sixties touch of fashion. This is groomed dressing.
