Finding new ways to decorate your buffet table on a budget can be an extreme challange if your clueless on what to do. The two important factors that you must decide on is your color theme, and secondly how to display your food. I found that if you display your desserts or horderves at different levels like a tiering effect it will give your table a dimensional look that is more appealing to the eye.

When entertaining in your home most of us normally don't have the fancy chafing dishes and pedastal dishes, You may be surprised to know that possibly you could have some items in your home that you can use to give the same tiering effect without having to go out and buy something. We all don't have thousands of dollars to spend on extravagent dishes to be used for one time, personally I'd rather spend all the money on the food than what I'm serving it on. Take a look around your house before we get started and see if you have any glass vases that your not using, candle sticks, baskets, old jewelry boxes, glass bowls, sometimes these itemes can be used to put your plates on different levels. To make the display on this page I used several kinds of glass vases that I had from a previous wedding. (You can find most of these vases at Michaels Arts & Crafts), Tall and medium sized cylinder vases, and small square vases. White and yellow ribbon to wrap around the top of the vases, Yellow daisies were hot glued onto the ribbon for decoration. The clear plastic trays were bought at the Dollar Tree and hot glued onto the rim of the glass vases, it held very well preventing the trays for tipping over.

The cake was very simple to make, Believe me I am not an expert cake baker. I used 1 box of yellow cake mix, a few daises for decorations, and yellow ribbon wrapped around each layer. Cake was held up by a large square glass vase underneath.

Two smaller glass vases were used to hold up this long retangular tray for cookies.

You can add flowers to the inside of the vases if you want to add more color , Adding a framed picture inside the vase is always beautiful too, there are so many ways to decorate the inside of these vases, All it takes is a little imagination and go for it.

Daisy Do Wedding Arch

Who can't help to smile when they look at daisies. The "Daisy Do Wedding Arch" is ready to exchange vows and promise you a daisy of a wedding day.  What other flower can capture the sun and surround it with white pedals of endless love.   If your wedding theme is daisies let me share with you some of my ideas using daisies for your wedding.

A simple wedding arch using white tuell, daisy flowers mixed with white roses and lilies.

There are many arches and arbors available to buy and decorate. Some are pre-lit arches that come in handy when you want to light them up for your reception indoors or outdoors. The one used for this picture was purchased at Michaels Arts and Crafts. Also used for the Daisy Do Arch were several spring bushes from Michaels Arts and Crafts in the Ashland Spring Collection. Used were daisies, Roses, and lilies. 1-30 yard spool of white tuell, and 6 -Ashland Classic Tradition garlands.

Used to weigh down the tuell in front of the arch were two glass square vases filled with daisies.

Calla Lily Arch

The calla lily stem is so beautiful that it will add to any wedding grace and elegance. Like arms reaching out from heaven to bless the bride and groom are the long arms of the calla lily stems bending, always reaching out to bring love and happiness to your wedding day

Materials used to make this arch consisted of 1-Pre-lite (All occasion 8' arch)purchased at Michaels Arts and Crafts, 1 spool of white tuell (30 yrds), purchased from Michaels Arts and Crafts, 28 to 30 calla lily long stems(purchased at Old Time Pottery), 6-white floral garlands (Ashland Traditions from Michaels Arts and Crafts.)

Start by taking 2 of the 6' foot white floral garlands and twist them together to make them fuller and then attach it to the arch starting at the bottom left, (White pipe cleaners are great for attaching the garlands onto the arch). You will repeat that process two more times. (Six garlands will make 3 pieces when joined together that will go around the whole span of the arch from left to right). Randomly weave the calla lilies in and out of the white floral garland attaching them using the pipe cleaners. Slightly bend the calla lilies to make them curve more than look straight. Add more stems to the top then on the sides. The final procedure is to pull out several yards of the tuell and gather it at the top of the arch (as though your making a big bow) attaching it with pipe cleaners or floral wire to the top of the metal arch crossbar. Tall White Feather Floral Arrangement For Weddings

Hello and welcome to my blog. There is nothing more elegant than tables for your wedding adorned with tall beautiful floral arrangements. Now don’t get worried that it could cost you a fortune because really there are ways to make a statement with out the extreme cost. Now the point is the taller the arrangement the easier for people to see each other across the table, you don’t want something that is going to be eye level where it could be very distracting. I like the really tall arrangements myself because I just think they stand out more, especially if the ceilings are tall. Glass containers are wonderful, pretty much anything looks good in them. If you think you want to try one of my arrangements in this post and you haven’t any floral experience I will show you how to step by step, I understand that you may just be starting out doing this but I will try to explain as if I myself did not know anything about floral, and believe me I understand how difficult first time doing things can be very frustrating. This post will be longer than any other post because I really want to help you, and not just post a lot of pictures that are going to confuse you. We will start out with products you will need

1 White floral garland (6' long) (purchased at Michaels Arts & Crafts)

2. Glue gun and glue sticks
3. Wide clear tape, (like packing tape)
4. Wire cutters
5. White foam ball 6"
7. 6 tall white calla lilies
8. 7 large white feathers
9. 1 tall vase (opening at top of vase is about 7" wide)
10. One box of white rose pedals
11. 2 bags of clear marbles

Now before you go out and buy your materials remember that checking your paper for coupons and sales will drastically bring down cost. Example (you can go to Michael's Arts and Crafts or other crafts stores that have coupons for up to 50% in either the weekend paper or on there web site. To be able to get the coupons on line you will have to register with Michael's and then they will send you coupons, and information on special offers. Watch for there 50% off sales on spring stems.

Step 1 is to fill the vase with marbles and then top with white rose pedals. The marbles will help weigh the vase down just in case it gets top heavy, and the rose pedals are just to give a soft texture for inside the vase



Step 2 is to insert your 6" white Styrofoam ball into the vase and hot glue it by adding glue around the top of vase. If your vase at the top is wider than 7" wide than you will have to buy a larger styrofoam ball.

Step 3 is to wrap wide clear tape around the top of the vase including about an inch of the styrofoam ball to make sure that the Styrofoam ball is secure. It is always safe to make sure that everything will stay in place. I always do this because glue by itself sometimes doesn't hold well on glass surfaces.



Step 4 is to cut your calla lily stems the length that you want them, usually around 24" tall and insert them into the top of the white ball. Make sure they are all the same length.


Step 5 After you had added all 6 of your calla lily stems you are now ready to wrap the white ball with your 6 foot white floral garland. You start at the top and keep wrapping the ball until it's covered using floral pins to keep it in place, Floral pins can be found in any craft store.

Step 6 After you've wrapped all the garland around the Styrofoam ball it should look like this.

Step 7 is to cut your large white feathers so that there not too long before inserting them into the Styrofoam ball. You can begin by placing them into the top around the base of the calla lily stems.

AS you can see in the picture the feathers were inserted all at the top of the arrangement .

Flowers Are Musical Notes to Gods Melody

The beauty of flowers is everywhere you go. Like music they spread joy and help us to heal. Some speak louder than others like a sounding trumpet, while others speak softly like a distant violin. It Doesn't matter how loud or faint they are heard as long as the heart can hear them they will spread happiness. Each pedal plays out a note from a classical masterpiece. They are the song writers of earths musical garden in which we live. Look at the flowers as children do, hear them with your eyes and see with your hearing. Find the flower that you keep inside and make them known.

It's not hard to see why children are drawn to the vibrant colors of flowers. Every flower has it's own meaning and it's own sound. Each one is different, not all the same as in every child, not all heard with the same voice. Flowers play out a beautiful song when taken the time to listen. There are symphonies playing in every garden, ask the children they know, they hear them, they remember their song.

Wedding Cakes That Won't Make You Gain Weight

Anybody that knows me knows that I love wedding cake. The more frosting the better. If you are planning a wedding and really would like to have something different for table centerpieces you may like the idea of making a glass cake. They are very easy to make and you can buy most of the supplies at Michael's Arts and Crafts. In this post I have created several different versions of the cake. Some with orchids, some with roses. Combining the concept of an ice sculpture and a wedding cake was the inspiration to this design.

Turn the vases upside down first, For this black and white cake you will need 2 different kinds of ribbon, brand name (Celebrate It) from Michael's Arts and Crafts., 3 glass square vases (sizes 7", for bottom layer), (4", for middle layer), (3" for top), 1-Classic Traditions white garland. I removed some of the leaves from the garland to put around the cake and some of the roses for the top and corners. I also added some cream roses to give a more realistic look. The diamond like stones were then hot glued onto the white leaves. They can be purchased at Michael's in with the stickers. The product name was Crystal Stickers. If you register with Michael's they will send you coupons.

Above is shown another version of the cake arrangement using orchids cut into sections, adding a flower to each corner and a spray at the top with white satin ribbon added around the base of each layer. Shown below are the vases separated and used as vases for small table top arrangements.

You can also fill the vases with flowers, trimming the top of each layer with white satin ribbon making it look like frosting. Remember that the vases are turned upside down. I used a piece of white cardboard to put under the bottom vase to hold the flowers. Pearls were hot glued onto the sides. This is really a fun craft to do, and if anybody would like to try this idea I would really appreciate it if you would send me a picture of your glass cake, and I will post it on this page. Floral Arrangements with Zebra Theme

The zebra print has been around for years. Designers use it for drapes, furniture, rugs, pictures, it’s just a very popular print. Every room in my house has something zebra in it. It started with a rug, then I liked it so much I started to collect anything with a zebra print on it, I have pictures of zebras, vases with zebras, chairs and pillows, I can go on and on. My only problem with the zebra print is (how do I incorporate the zebra print into my floral arrangements?) Unless I use a zebra vase it’s pretty hard to do it. I thought why not paint a large leaf with the zebra print on it. I ran out to Michaels Arts and Crafts and bought two small bottles of paint, both costing me less than 2.00 on sale. The pictures appearing on this page will show you the many ways I used the painted zebra print on vases, leaves, terra cotta pots, and picture frames.

Materials used to make the black and white zebra leaves used in these pictures were purchased at Michaels Arts and Crafts. White feathers can be found at Michaels in the area of the dried flowers.

1 bottle of Folk Art acrylic paint, 427 Ivory, 1 bottle of Folk Art acrylic paint, 479 pure black. 4 Tropical leaf stems. 2 were large leafs like bird of paradise leaves, and the other 2 were like banana leaves. First I started with painting the whole leaf white, let it dry for at least an hour. Painting black lines that resembled zebra stripes were then added starting from the bottom to top of leaf. The last step was painting a thin black line going down the middle. The zebra leaves can be added to any floral arrangement and give it a new look, it's amazing what 2 small bottles of paint can do. If you visit the Michaels web site they will send you coupons.

You can add these leaves to clear glass vases with some bamboo. They look great with the orange gerber daisies and a few black sticks. The sticks were painted with the same paint I used for the leaves. The tall black wicker vase was purchased at Michaels store. Solid black picture frames can be transformed into zebra themed frames.

Simple terra cotta pots can be turned into cute little showy floral arrangements for your kitchen counter or bathroom. I used the same paint for the terra cotta pots as I did for the zebra leaves. I purchased the pots at Michaels and filled them with white hydrangeas and spring white lilies using the spring bushes at Michaels store.

This is where I really went crazy with the zebra print, shown below was a clear glass cylinder 12 vase I purchased at Michaels, I painted black zebra strips on the inside of the vase and let it dry, then I covered the whole inside of the vase with white paint, and "WoW", my son thought I bought it like that. The only problem is it is an acrylic water based paint so I wouldn't advise filling it with water, however the look is great for silk florals as shown.

Floral Arrangements for Bathrooms　

The bathroom has come a long way since the days of only white toilets and mirrors on medicine cabinets. Toilet paper may still be white, but the 20th century took bathroom design to a new level by adding custom colors to bathroom fixtures. Homeowners now take time in designing thier bathrooms with more emphasis into pictures, floral arrangements, rugs, contemporary fixtures, stone and ceramic tiles, and elegant mirrors.

Most bathrooms do not have a lot of vanity space, so the idea is to create a floral arrangement that is in proportion to your counter space. If you have the height but not the width, then go taller, it will give the bathroom more height. If your bathroom is dark, try lighter colors in your arrangements for contrast. Adding mini battery operated lights in floral arrangements also gives a dramatic appearance, especially if you want to create some mood lighting.

Using 1-24" cylinder glass vase, I arranged calla lilies to where the tops were right above the glass; some of them I hung over the edge more on one side (you might have to bend them). There was no cutting involved or difficult arranging, in fact I stumbled onto this design by one day throwing a handful of calla lilies into a vase and liked how they fell. You could put water and rocks in the vase, or glass marbles. I added 3 stems of pearls, 1 set of miniture battery operated lights (that I weaved in and out of the calla lily stems, and in the middle, making sure not to see the wire). In the small votive glass holders, I had 2 with calla lilies in water, and 2 with a floating candle.

Floral Arranging & Fireplace Mantels

Floral arrangements are always great for dressing up your fireplace mantel. By using a few of my simple methods you can make your fireplace really stand out. Sometimes it just takes a bundle of bamboo sticks, or a bold print vase to produce the "WOW" factor in your arrangements. Simple glass cylinder vases can also work miracles with half the expense of the ceramic ones. If your having trouble trying to figure out what kind of look you want for your mantel, you need not worry because that is what I’ve created this blog for, to help give suggestions and advice by using pictures and techniques that work beautifully. There are countless ways to arrange the perfect look, and sometimes you may want to experiment by switching out a candle holder for a small framed picture, or a wicker basket instead of a vase. By using some of the ideas on this page you will begin to recognize that you may very well have all you need to put a great looking mantle together just sitting around your house and not even know it. The fact is when you have some ideas to play around with at least you have some direction and it does make it easier.

Other components used to create this grouping were 2 candlestick holders, and a large round vase. When I put it all together it created just the look I wanted. When displayed In front of the stone travertine this grouping portrayed a very modern indonesian look. The tall glass vases with the sticks just made it stand out fantastically. When I walk into the room it gives presence and demands attention. Other ideas using bamboo sticks in arrangements will be shown on this page. Please feel free to look at them and get ideas. Also featured on this page are floral arrangments used for mantels that do not include bamboo sticks.

Bamboo With Red Plate & Tropical Flowers

Adding just a few tropical flowers with the bamboo really gave it a new twist. I also added some rocks to the bottom of the vases. The big red plate gives it an oriental feel. At night it's a very dramatic look that brings alot of attention to it.

This look is great with just the glass vases and the plate by themselves, I just added the other componants for display purposes. Other plates will work just as well, it doesn't have to be red, or you may even replace the plate with a picture.instead.

Using four 12" cylinder glass vases, silk calla lily stems, bending them to form a half circle, combined with an orchid and bamboo sticks make this mantel very interesting and different. This will go well if your style is contemporary.

Being artistic with silk flowers is always exciting. It gives you freedom to explore other forms of design that may be a lot more challenging with real flowers. Creativity comes from the willingness to go beyond what is trending now and to make something that comes from your mind, that is a one of a kind.

In real life there is no such thing as a Calla Lily Bride, How crazy does that sound?, however when the thought entered my mind, I already had her dress designed, and I could see her face like that of a roman goddess. I did not let the impossibility factor set in, nor did I worry about what was reasonable or practical for this piece of art. Instead I said "There will be a first and I shall create her" Designing good arrangements don’t always have to be by the book. Most people like what is different, what they haven’t seen before, that is why I would like to encourage you to let yourself be free when you design and make something really different. There is no right or wrong in art, and floral design is an art.

Materials used in creating this dress consisted of a simple spool of white tuell, (30 yrds), 2 white floral garlands both measuring about 6 feet long to make up the top part of the dress. A white face mask, with 2 rose petals for the eye lids. The Calla Lily Bride sits in a tall glass vase built onto a large piece of white floral foam. Calla Lily stems are her arms, and roses and calla lilies make up her hair piece. I used one of my own pieces of costume jewelry for her necklace. The Calla Lily Bride can be used for all different occasions, such as a bridal shower centerpiece, or a bridal show, for a wedding, For a bridal shop front display.

In this picture you will see her standing in front of a house as though she is waiting for her groom. Unfortunately she will have to wait a long time because I haven't made him yet.

The Calla Lily flower is graceful and elegant, and that is why I chose this flower. It's long stem reminded me of long arms, and it's bell shaped flower like a flaired sleeve of a dress.

Designing with Hydrangeas

As a floral designer, I have to say the hydrangea flower is my personal favorite. Whether using several to form a bridal bouquet, or arranging them for a table centerpiece, you can be sure they will make a dramatic statement to any setting. You can find them in several colors, however white is what I have used to make this hydrangea wedding arch. The hydrangea flower is eye catching because of it’s size that spans 7 or 8 inches wide, and it's beautiful fullness; If you look real close into the flower it’s like looking at hundreds of small, blooming bouquets. It’s quite a robust flower yet has a light, fresh look about it, as though it fell from heaven. After designing this arch I was surprised at how photogenic it was. I wish I could take a picture as well as this arch does!

In floral arranging, I have used all differed colors of hydrangea’s, but I have grown particular to white.The best part about using white is you can always pop an accent color into it to change the whole color scheme. This can be done very easily without having to use a lot of flowers.

Why A Wedding Arch?

The wedding arch is an important element to your wedding ceremony. If you are getting married outside, or on the beach, you may want to consider a lightweight, pre-decorated wedding arch that’s easy to carry. A beautifully decorated arch will not only set the mood for your wedding ceremony, but add visual interest in pictures. Photographers like using wedding arches as a back drop when capturing different angles of the bride and groom during the ceremony. Afterwards, it’s a great setting for family group shots.

1- Package of white pipe cleaners, (purchased at Michael's.

Directions:

1. Build your arch using the directions included in the box. Lights come with this arch on a net that clip on. It is not necessary to put the lights on if you don’t need them. The Arch comes with metal stakes to put into the ground to keep it more secure, however, if you are working inside your home, you may want to stabilize it some other way; I propped mine up against the wall. Given the height of the arch, a ladder will be required to reach the top parts.

2. The next step is the ribbon. start from the bottom on the left side and wrap the ribbon around the arch. The first spool of ribbon should take you to the middle of the top of the arch, then start with the second bolt and start where you left off until you reach the bottom of the right side.

3. Take the tulle and drape it down several feet, and then come up with the tulle, as if it were the train of a bridal dress. then attach it to the cross pole on the side of the arch about half way up the arch, underneath the satin white ribbon, Without cutting the tulle repeat that process at least 3 times. Make sure your tulle is as long as what's shown in my picture:

(step 3 cont.) After you’ve done one side, you can cut from the main spool of tulle. Then you can repeat that process on the other side of the arch. (Remember to reserve about a 10ft piece that you will put at the top of the Arch. This will represent the Bridal veil.)

4. Slip one hydrangea under the ribbon (the stem will be hidden under the ribbon). Make the flower part show in the front, and tie it down with a white pipe cleaner. Repeat that going all the way around, starting at about half way up the arch. There should be 5 on one side and 5 on the other side, and then 4 at the crown of the arch at the top.

5. Take the ivy bush, and cut off the long hanging vines, (I will use them in step 7). Attach the main part of the ivy bush to the top of the arch using again the pipe cleaner twist ties. Then, weave 4 hydrangea stems through it so they're facing the front, and tie them down with pipe cleaners.

6. Combine the pieces that you cut from the ivy together so that it looks like one big piece of ivy. Attach it to the left, front side of the arch twisting it around the hydrangeas, going all the way around the top until reaching the right side of the arch. Then, twist it around the flowers and tie them down with pipe cleaners.

7. All that's left are the 2 pearl stems. The stems will resemble a fountain spilling over the top of the arch. These stems look like pearls on a fishing line, and gives a look of rain.

8. Lay the last 4 remaining hydrandeas on the ground in front of the arch on the tulle.

9. Lastly, You can take the remaining tulle, drape it over the top, and tie it down in the center.

Directions:

1. Build your arch using the directions included in the box. Lights come with this arch on a net that clip on. It is not necessary to put the lights on if you don’t need them. The Arch comes with metal stakes to put into the ground to keep it more secure, however if you work on it inside your home you may want to stabilize it some way, I propped mine up against the wall to make it easier, you will need a ladder to get to the high spots. This arch is fine for on the lawn, but in extreme windy conditions I would recommend a much stronger one.

2. The next step is the ribbon. I start from the bottom on the left side and wrap the ribbon around the arch, the first spool of ribbon should take you to the middle of the top of arch, then you start with the second bolt and start where you left off until you reach the bottom of the right side.

3. The next step is taking two of the white flowered garlands and braid them together so that it is one piece. I wrap it around the middle of one side of the arch it should go around twice and then tie it together using the white pipe cleaner pieces. I repeat that same sequence on the other side.

4. I take the tulle and drape it down several feet and then I come up with it, as if it were the train of a bridal dress and then I attach it to the cross pole on the side of the arch underneath the garland of white roses. Without cutting the tulle I repeat that process at least 3 times, make sure it’s long as shown in my picture. After you’ve done one side you can cut from the main spool of tulle. Then you can repeat that process on the other side of the arch. (Remember to reserve about a 10ft piece that you will put at the top of the Arch, to represent the Bridal veil.)

5. You have one garland left, I fold it in half and keep it together using a pipe cleaner tie, and then I tie it on to the middle of the top of the arch. You may have to pull the ribbon away to get to the metal to tie it on.

6. I take the two rose bushes and clip the roses off from the stems and randomly hot glue the roses into the garland that was wrapped around the sides, and on the top of the arch, this is to add different shades of white to make it more interesting and soft.

7. Take the one Tiger Lilly stem and cut off the two flowers on it, I hot glue the flowers into the middle of the top of the arch in with the white floral garland and added roses.
