Sarah and Russell: Modern with a hint of Orange at the Lazy Goat

Sarah was a busy medical student studying internal medicine. Russell is an engineer. Though Sarah and Russell only used B & R Events for our Marilyn Package, we were able to set them up with some ideas.

We initially met with Sarah, her sister, and mother two years prior to the big day. We were happy to tell them about venues that suited Sarah's vision- downtown, modern, and the perfect size for about 80 guests. The Lazy Goat's patio for the ceremony and upstairs Caprine Room were logical and gorgeous choices for their fall nuptials.

The six o'clock ceremony overlooked the Reedy River with the patio's water fall feature fell behind the wedding guests. Sarah and Russell's closest family and friends were greeted by the melodies from John Atkin's guitar. Their bridal party looked stylish in pewter dresses and charcoal shadow stripe suites with orange patterned ties. Sarah's fit and flare chiffon gown was accented with a pewter sash and she carried orange roses bound with pewter textured ribbon. Spencer Stanton of Stanton Photography was able to capture so many cool shots of the ceremony and used his vision to even shoot up into the Caprine Room's floor to ceiling glass windows.

The Lazy Goat created a cocktail style menu and Sarah and Russell ordered their wedding cake from Table 301. Dahlia created stunning floral arrangements of varying white submerged flowers in staggered cylinder vases topped with floating candles. High Tide's classic songs filled the reception while wedding guests mingled and enjoyed small bites and cocktails. Sarah created little boxes of candy in black jewelry boxes with their monogram drawn in chalk.

Rene and Matt: Canary and Pussy Willow at Grace Church and the Huguenot Loft

Rene and Matt were another sweet couple that found B & R Events at Wedding Festivals. They had already booked the Huguenot Loft, but being new to Greenville from Michigan they wanted help to ensure that their family had a great time.

Rene told me right off about her obsession with pussy willows. She wanted to incorporate them into all elements of the wedding and reception. A stunning medium toned grey and a cheery canary yellow were also Rene's choice for their early fall soiree.

Grace Church was the perfect setting for their short and sweet ceremony. Guests were welcomed by the enchanting melodies played by the Goodwin Quartet. They laughed with Bruce Creamer as he led Rene and Matt through their ceremony. Melissa Ragan captured the warmth and sincerity of their vows.

Kristi and Andrea with Dahlia A Florist loved Rene's obsession with pussy willows and incorporated fun yellow and white flowers and textures. The tables were dressed with steely grey linens and crisp white napkins with natural wooden chairs to compliment the original hardwoods of the Loft.

Rene wanted to make sure that everyone would hit the dance floor. Vic Thomas with DJ GVegas was the ideal choice to emcee and mix their wide range of music. Rene also provided silver flip flops for all the ladies.

Rene and Matt agreed that the food and bar were going to have to be top notch, so they were happy to use Larkins on the River for catering. Couture Cakes created a four tier cake with a pussy willow and ivory and yellow flower branch crawling up it. Guests were loving the apple cinnamon with cinnamon butter cream cake. A candy bar was set for favors to continue on the sweetness of their special day.

At the end of the evening, Rene and Matt were showered with dried lavender by their friends and family as they wished them farewell.

Natacha and Victor: Peacock and Silver at Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the Hyatt Regency

Can we talk about the two happiest, luckiest kids in the USA?

That would be Natacha and Victor.

Another gorgeous couple that attended the Hyatt Wedding Festivals. After attending the show and seeing our booth, they set up their "Getting to Know You" session.

Then Natacha told me the great news- at the show, they won the Grand Prize! That year, it was "the Hyatt Reception". The couple won $3500 off their reception at the Hyatt. That was all that they had booked, and Natacha already had her gorgeous one shoulder gown.

Natacha and Victor had met during school in Miami. Victor went overseas to serve our country while Natacha continued with her studies. When he got home, they came up to visit family in South Carolina, and decided to call it home for a while.

Natacha told us that she loved bling, and wanted to use silver and navy with peacock feather accents. They loved the idea of a church for the wedding, wanted to make sure that they had a plated dinner and open bar for their out of town guests, and wanted great music.

Black tie was the attire of choice for the occasion. Natacha let the bridesmaids choose what style gown they wanted to wear as long as it was navy chiffon and by a particular designer. Gents donned tuxedos with black bow ties. White and ivory blooms popped against the dark tones and showed off the crystal and peacock feather accents.

Guests were shuttled by trolley from the Hyatt the day of the wedding to Holy Trinity Anglican Church. A white N and V wreath hung on the red doors of the church. Ivory shimmering paper with navy script and peacock feather in the seam made up the program. Rahab Hackett played the harp while Natacha was escorted down the aisle by her mother.

We enlisted Marshall Graham and Justin Robinson to make sure the memories lasted. DJ Jamie Blair was on music once he got approval from Victor's disc jockeying groomsman.

After the ceremony, Natacha and Victor's guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the Hyatt's lobby and the newlyweds hitched a ride in a vintage Packard. After a lively introduction, guests could take in the scenery- blue up lighting around the perimeter of the room, crystals dripping from the centerpieces, silver satin napkins, menu cards and place cards on shimmering paper, and silver chargers. Peacock feathers were tucked into the napkins and the centerpieces. Navy crinkle taffeta linens covered the round and square tables with silver chivari chairs and silver satin napkins at each place setting.

The cake was even adorned with crystals thanks to Susan at Couture Cakes. Natacha loves sweets, so there was a sweets table prepared with all sorts of treats, including cake pops and donut holes. When guests wanted to take a break from dancing, then they could get away and take a trip to the photo booth. At the end of the day (literally, the reception ended at midnight) we sent the happy couple off to the elevator to their suite. Guests left with silver luggage tags,photo strips, sore feet, full bellies, and happy hearts.

Brittany and Michael: Purple and Sassy at the Wyche Pavilion

We met Brittany at the Wedding Festivals at the Hyatt. I went to hand her some information, and she said that her wedding was at Larkins and she was definitely going to call us.

Brittany set up her appointment right away and I was lucky enough to hang out with her, Michael, and her mother Donna.

Brittany and Michael used B & R Events for day of coordination for their downtown Greenville wedding. Everything Brittany chose was a little sassy, and a lot of fun. Brittany's girls got ready in the Rick Erwin's apartment. We LOVED her one shoulder, ruffled, fit and flare gown that she accented with a bird cage veil. The guys donned classic tuxedos and the girls wore dark purple taffeta cocktail dresses with black accents.

Dahlia created fluffy and fun flowers for Brittany and Michael's big day. Different variations of white mum, white feathers, and purple lisianthus decorated the couple's wedding arch in Larkin's Courtyard. Their guests enjoyed Joyce Fankhauser playing the harp while Brittany and Michael performed a sand ceremony.

Sam Brooks with Life of the Party welcomed the guests to the reception in the Wyche Pavilion. Flash Booth 5 was there for the guests that didn't want to dance, but instead wanted to play! Justin Robinson was able to capture all the heartfelt moments, like Donna's speech at the beginning of the reception. Kathy and Company baked and decorated a contemporary cake featuring purple and white lilies. And Season's Photography made sure that they got Brittany and Michael's sparkler send off before the newlyweds escaped on a stretch Excursion.

Katy and John: Rehearsal Dinner at the Huguenot Loft

John's mother is the ultimate hostess. She wanted to invite all of Katy and John's guests to the rehearsal dinner. B & R Events suggested to Katy that they check out the Huguenot Loft for the rehearsal since many of the guests were staying close. John's parents loved the loft and booked it on the spot.

As the wedding approached, John's family got more and more busy. His sister was getting married, his mother was taking care of an ill family member and had community obligations, his dad had a business to run. Katy called B & R Events 6 weeks before the event and told us that they needed help.

We had the pleasure of working with John's mother for this gorgeous event. We met with her at Professional Party Rentals and worked together to choose byzantine and ivory damasks for the linens, with chocolate underlays, mahogany chivaris with gold cushions, and a lounge area for the cocktail area.

John's mother has a wonderful stationer in Atlanta that she works with all the time as well as a dear friend that is an interior designer. She chose soft white card stock and had all the escort cards, place cards, menus, table numbers, and favor tags written in gold ink. Chocolates and fans were given to all the guests as favors.

John's mother wanted it to look different from the wedding and to be a plated dinner. Katy and John loved Soby's when they lived in Greenville, so we called Table 301 (Soby's Catering). Jessica with Table 301 helped put together an excellent menu; BBQ duck confitt on cheddar biscuits, portabello mushroom bites, open face BLT, an awesome fruit and cheese display with nuts and olives (I credit this display for my love of mustard cheese), then each guest had a choice of braised shortribs, potato crusted halibut, or roasted chicken.

John's mother had her favorite florist from the Buckhead area, David LaVoy, create the centerpieces. Red asiatic lilies, red ranunculus, and red celosia all in custom bronze vases.

For additional decor, we enlisted Optrics and U Rent A Plant. Optrics swagged soft white twinkle lights in the hardwood and carpeted areas of the loft and wrapped the poles with magnolia garland and lights. U Rent A Plant brought in 66 plants in varying heights with and without lights.

When Katy and John went to their cake tasting with Couture Cakes, they went ahead and chose a chocolate peanut butter cake.

Katy and John had requested Happy Ending Band to provide live music live people ate and socialized. Their music has a broad range and was enjoyed by all.

Katy prepared an excellent slide show, set to music, for all the guests to enjoy prior to the toasts. Audio Solutions had the perfect set up- a huge flat screen TV with speakers. They also provided the microphone for the speeches. Daneman Video captured every word of John's speech, as well as the speeches of their close friends.

Katy and John: Eggplant and Silver at Cliffs Chapel and Larkin's on the River's Wyche Pavilion

Katy and John met at Furman University. John is from Atlanta and Katy is from a small town called Calhoun in Georgia. After a romantic proposal in Italy, Katy and John made the decision to have their wedding in Greenville because of their love of Greenville's downtown. Katy wanted her guests to experience Greenville's downtown- a major backdrop for their relationship.

A color scheme of purple, silver, and ivory was chosen for their August wedding. John and Katy wanted a cocktail style reception, with an awesome live band, amazing food, and an open bar. They knew right away that having the reception at the Wyche Pavilion, which they had always admired when they stayed at the Hampton Inn Riverplace across the river.

Katy and John blocked several rooms at the same Hampton Inn so that their guests could have the same view. We were happy to not only design their invitations and programs, but helped design a little 14 page booklet printed and bound by TruColor to go in all of the out of town bags. We also got local treats for their guests to enjoy, Leopard Forest Coffee, Happy Cow Creamery candy, and Love Muffins from Brick Street Cafe were presented in purple bags along with their booklet.

Katy and John chose The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel for their ceremony. She knew that their guests would love the breath taking views that only the chapel can offer. A stretch Navigator, a stretch Excursion, a chauffeured Expedition, and a town car got the bridal party safely up the mountain.

Dahlia worked closely with B & R Events to create the perfect look for Katy and John's ceremony. The bridesmaids carried ivory dahlias and roses, the aisle was lined with ivory and purple petals and the pews were decorated with ivory orchids, the entrance to the chapel had monogram wreaths and swags of greenery and ivory flowers, and Katy carried purple and ivory dahlias with ivory roses and hydrangea. It was the perfect addition to Kay's gorgeous silk-chiffon and lace Melissa Sweet gown.

Katy's grandfather, AKA Lots of Poppa, is a Methodist minister and officiated the ceremony while the bridal party of 19 stood by the couple's side.

Daneman Video and Elev8 Studio were able to capture group photos and other footage on top of the mountain before the ceremony. As guests were arriving, a heavy duty rain storm had started, complete with claps of thunder and heavy winds.

By the end of the ceremony, guests were able to leave the chapel safe and dry while Katy and John finished with photos and video.

After the ceremony, guests headed back downtown to the Wyche Pavilion for the reception. Guests were greeted with passed hors d'oeuvres and frozen dragon fruit daiquiris to fight the August heat.

Even though Katy and John chose for their reception to be cocktail style, all of their 150 guests had a place to sit. And at that place to sit were two fresh sugar cookies for them to take home.

Instead of the traditional bridal portrait, Katy chose to display a cross-stitch created by her grandmother in honor of her wedding day.

Couture Cakes created their wedding cake. Under the ivory butter cream were fresh and fruity flavors- key lime, strawberry lemonade, and lemon.

Total Package Band helped keep the dance floor full and emceed all the special moments. Katy and John chose music that would appeal to all ages and performed their first dance to "If I Could Build My World Around You" by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Turrell.

Katy wanted all of the femail guests to be comfortable, so she supplied various sizes of black flip flops for them to change into, which were displayed with left over purple bags in which to carry their heels home

At the end of the night, the band played "With This Ring" as the last dance.

Their guests bid them "adieu" by showering them with ivory and purple rose petals.

And then Katy and John were whisked away in a rickshaw.

Lesli and Blake; Copper and Lime at Earle Street Baptist Church and the Upcountry History Museum

B & R Events initially met Lesli and Blake because Lesli was a bridesmaid in Jamie's wedding. Shortly after, Blake popped the question.

Lesli is a pharmacy student and knew that she would need help planning their summer wedding. After I told her congratulations via Facebook (we friended each other after Jamie's big day), Lesli set up a consultation and booked B & R Events.

Lesli and Blake are a laid back couple. Some decisions were so easy for them- Blake's uncle is the pastor at Earle Street Baptist Church and they knew they wanted to get married that summer. Good food was also a top priority and lots of dancing. Otherwise, they were very open to ideas.

They chose the Upcountry History Museum for their reception because it had great dancing space.

Lesli showed me pictures of weddings that she liked from some Southern wedding magazines. Lesli loved the idea of lots of ivory and green with hints of navy and copper. Who said you have to just have two wedding colors?

The ceremony was handled by the wedding directors at Earl Street. Blake and Lesli chose to share a special moment before the wedding while Charlie Register with Register Images documented with photographs.

While the ceremony went on, B & R Events created the reception space. With a staff of 5, we were able to have everything ready in an hour. Yup, we were able to get all vendors set up, tables, chairs, and linens out from 5:00 (when the museum closes) to 6:00 with about 35 minutes for finishing touches. Who wants to worry about that during their wedding? Lesli and Blake certainly didn't.

For a budget friendly centerpiece, we found inexpensive ivory lanterns, tied navy ribbon at the top, and surrounded them with green moss and green fruit. What kind of fruit? Anything that was green and on sale that week! Key limes, apples, and even brussel sprouts surrounded the ivory lanterns on coppery linens with natural wood chairs. The ivory lanterns also went on the cocktail tables near the dance floor, but we switched it up with a sage linen with copper sash.

In the center of the seating was a large, 36 seater, family style table. The Flower Peddler's Paul White created a huge centerpiece with apples in the vase and plenty of green and ivory flowers. Paul also created green garland to go down the center of the table. The bouquets were simply stunning- a combination of green and ivory hydrangea, ivory sweetheart roses, coppery calla lilies, and green cynbidium orchids. Lesli never had to take any time out of her studies to think about the decor, she just had to tell me if she liked it or not.

And that awesome food that they wanted? We called Granata's Catering. Yup, we were lucky enough to work with him two weekends in a row. Lesli and Blake wanted beer and wine with sangria as their signature drink. Then, we took some suggestions that Lesli, Blake, and Lesli's dad had come up with to do four different stations;three different sliders with homemade chips, pasta with different sauces and toppings, low country boil with a jalapeno corn bread, and a banana pudding station all sorts of add-ins. We created signs to go at each station to let guests know what was offered at the station and what they could look forward to at the next station.

And to go with the awesome meal- an awesome cake. Holly with Holly's Cakes created a simple, four-tiered cake that she them adorned with fresh flower. But we all know that it is what is in the inside that counts. Red velvet cake and marble cake with Bavarian cream filling alternated tiers. Um, seriously, yum.

The great dancing requirement- we put a call in to DJ Jamie Blair. Jamie was just Lesli and Blake's style. He kept their 190 guests dancing the entire night. One of the largest conga lines I have ever seen was at their wedding- almost every single guest followed Lesli as she led the line through out the entire museum, including going up the grand staircase.

At the end of the night, Lesli and Blake's guests sent them off in a shower of bubbles as they got-away in a friend's white convertible.

Alli and Jon: Apple Green and Duet Dinner at Larkin's Caberet Room

Alli grew up in Easley. Jon is from Virginia. They met in Clemson. They got married in Easley and had their reception in Greenville.

You got all that? Good.

Alli contacted B&R Events with plenty of time in advance. She was putting a lot of attention into the details of her reception, and wanted a team that could take care of the details and refer super star vendors. After a great meeting with Alli and her mother Ann, they booked B&R Events for the big day. We got to meet Jon and he was a bunch of fun! We knew that we were going to have a great time with them.

Easley First Baptist requires that you use their director for a ceremony. We went to the rehearsal and got to meet the entire bridal party and got to kick back. Alli and Jon gave us all of the goodies for the reception and bid us adieu.

The next day was hot, but perfect to go with Alli and Jon's green, ivory, and peach color scheme. Eastside Limo provided transportation for their crew to get from downtown to Easley.

Kismet Photography promptly started photos and captured all the details. Watching Emily and Curtis work is like watching a well oiled machine. We love working with them, and they were even kind enough to bring personalized bottles filled with water for the bridal party.

Debbie began set up at Larkin's Caberet Room while I went to the church to take check in on Alli and Jon. I sprinkled petals, used fashion tape, made sure groomsmen were hydrated, and waited for the church director to get there. I made sure Alli and Jon and their parents were ready and then I went back to Larkins to assist Debbie.

Everything was looking lovely at Larkins. Alli's hardwork of creating chalboard table numbers and wine cork place card with Lotto ticket favors were all being displayed. The favors were absolutely awesome- a scratch-off ticket from SC and a scratch-off ticket from VA with a 2011 penny in a little vellum envelope with a sticker that read, "Lucky in Love".

A dear friend of Alli's family made their cake. Twigs brought lovely centerpieces featuring ivory hydrangea, peach roses, and matching apple green greenery. Alli and Jon hired a caracuteurist to draw portraits of their guests. The bridal party arrived and we lined them up so Ric Larson with Life of the Party could announce them in. Alli and Jon treated their guests to a duet plated dinner of filet mignon and rosemary chicken. It was nice, because they actually seated us amongst their guests (this is unusual) and their guests were going on and on about how it was the best meal they have ever had at a wedding.

Ric did a great job of reading Alli and Jon's crowd and kept the dance floor full.

At the end of the night, we lined up their guests for a sparkler send off and Alli and Jon got away in a horse drawn carriage.

Caley and Jimmy: Homestyle with Orange and Caspian Blue

Home Sweet Home for Caley and Jimmy's big day. Caley and Jimmy decided that backyard nuptials at Caley's parent's home was the route to go for their June 25th summer celebration. They followed the ceremony with an indoor-outdoor reception at the neighborhood clubhouse.

Caley chose "Caspian Blue" J Crew dressed for her crew to wear while the groomsmen looked sharp in grey suits and striped ties. Jimmy and Caley are teachers, so there were also many little chalkboard elements. Orange and green were also incorporated in the decor with floral by Dahlia A Florist.

Guests arrived and parked at the clubhouse and were transported to the ceremony by Main Street Trolley. They were then greeted by Caley's brothers and then offered water and lemonade by the awesome staff from Granata's Catering. In each seat, there was a program that exclaimed "HUZZAH!" at the top and also functioned as a fan. Caley's mother had landscaped the backyard to perfection, including having a custom arbor built. The procession emerged from Caley's childhood bedroom. We stayed on the walkie-talkies with DJ Eric Sewell so he was cued to play the correct instumental version of the correct Beatles song at the correct time.

After the ceremony, Jeff Hall took some post-ceremony photos while guests enjoyed different stations of food, wrote wishes to the bride and groom, and enjoyed the mild June weather.

The reception was a hit- full of dancing, photo boothing (so not a word, but B&R just might submit it to Websters), and general shenanigans. At the end of the night, everyone left with a muffin (or 3), a bubble send off (old-school full-sized), and the bride and groom took off in Caley's dad's Mustang Cobra convertible.

Katie and Jeff: Country Music and Harlequin Diamonds at the Wyche Pavilion

Katie and Jeff chose Holy Trinity Anglican Church and Larkin's on the River's Wyche Pavilion for their guest list of 100. They had also chosen Dahlia A Florist to incorporate Katie's favorite flowers (bird of paradise and peonies) and their photographer. They came to B&R Events for the Audrey Package.

Katie had her bridesmaids wear black, but loves yellow. She mentioned that she also loved diamond patterns. Jeff really wanted to incorporate a turquoise blue.

We were able to design an invitation for them using blue harlequin diamonds and damask with a black script.

We made sure that Couture Cakes could incorporate their diamonds, peonies made of sugar, and a touch of turquoise.

B&R added in touches of gold to compliment all the yellow and because it matched the adorable jars of honey that Katie and her family made as favors.

The linens were ivory with turquoise satin overlays and gold chivari chairs with ivory cushions.

B&R Events brought gold chargers and gold candle sticks and even arranged the jars of honey a large gold mirror .

Jeff and Katie chose Larkin's barbecue buffet while Benny Whitten with Life of the Party played their favorite country music.

Benny, being the super star DJ that he is, even gave Jeff and Katie a signed Kenny Chesney disc as a wedding gift.

Jeff and Katie exited their reception through sparklers to the Hampton Inn.

Will and Kate: Blue Jay and Faith at the Wyche Pavilion

South Carolina had their very own Will and Kate on June 12th. They may not have had the huge royal wedding, but they had a huge amount the faith and friends.

Kate's mother,Lori, contacted B&R for our Marilyn Package, day-of coordination. Kate chose blue jay, white, and a mossy green for her color palette. With 280 guests and 21 people in the bridal party, the Dowe Amphitheater was an excellent spot for their early summer nuptials. When B&R met with Kate two days before the wedding and asked what the rain plan was, Kate assured us that she would still get married in the amphitheater. And she did!

The sun was shining when we showed up to the Wyche Pavilion to help Kate's friends and family decorate. Lori has many talented friends from their church in North Carolina that were willing to come down and help make the space exactly to Kate and Will's expectations. Will and Kate were able to take portraits outside separately with Michael Costa prior to the ceremony. It wasn't until about an hour before the ceremony that the sky turned dark and the rain started to pour. All the flowers had arrived with Bella Blooms and were meticulously placed and the Bakery Off Augusta had delivered the cake with words of Will and Kate's favorite places and things written in butter cream.

Vic Thomas with G Vegas! DJ had set up and guests were starting to arrive. The rain was still going strong, so Kate and her parents decided to put the social hour before the ceremony. A quick call to Vic and Larkins to let them know, and no guest was the wiser! Kate, now in medical school, told me that she liked facts and logic. While we were watching the radar and there was still a shadow of green over the ceremony site, the facts were not on our side.

Finally, Kate and Will agreed that we would encourage guests that had umbrellas to stand in the ceremony area and if they did not have umbrellas they could stand under the adjacent tent. B&R always has 7 white umbrellas on hand (they live in our vehicle) and then with the help of Larkins we issued enough black umbrellas for everyone to make it down the aisle safe and dry.

Kate's uncle officiated the ceremony, and by the time it was over the rain was down to a sprinkle. The sun was starting to shine as guests made their way to the pavilion. J-Rob Productions caught Will and Kate's wonderful first dance on film. Members of their bridal party sang part of the father-bride dance. Guests enjoyed a stationed appetizer style reception and fellowship.

At the end of the evening, guests lined up and for a sparkler send off and Will and Kate drove off in Kate's blue FJ Cruiser.

Johnsie and Nick: Lapis and Mason Jars at Clemson University's Carillon Gardens and Amphitheater

Johnsie and Nick chose Memorial Day weekend to get married. Both bride and groom are graduates of Clemson, so it was only appropriate that they exchange vows on campus. The Carillon Gardens were the backdrop for their ceremony while the Clemson Amphitheater was the scene for the reception.
Johnsie and her mother, Karen, incorporated so many personal touches that were important to their family. The flower girl wore one of Johnsie's smocked dresses, they created signs using chalkboard paint and chalk, each table had a little bit of Johnsie and Nick's story, and a large glass barrel held the floral arrangement next to Johnsie's portrait by Gruen Photography. Renee Burroughs Design created centerpieces of wild flowers and anything she could get her hands on that was purple in Mason jars. Johnsie added the promise ring Nick gave her in high school to her bouquet.
Holly's Cakes created Johnsie and Nick's four tier cake with white butter cream and lapis and silver ribbon accents and their monogram in the middle. After dinner and cake cutting, Formal Affair DJ got everyone on the dance floor. Even the groomsmen were joining in on the fun with a soulful rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody". As guests gathered their custom pint glass (what a great favor!), they were handed tiger-rags and bubbles for Johnsie and Nick's send off.

Pia and Wyatt: Preppy-Vintage Fun at the Westin Poinsett

I first met Pia in April of 2010. She was a senior at Furman University and had just gotten engaged to Wyatt. She had been accepted into a masters program at Vanderbilt, Wyatt was getting his second masters at Wake Forest, and her dad lives in Texas. Needless to say, they wouldn't be around much to plan their Greenville wedding.
Pia told me that she wanted a fun wedding. With spring-y colors. And that she didn't know anything about flowers. And that she would love a band that could play oldies, but popular music on breaks. And that she wanted to get married at half past two because she liked the way it sounded. And that she loved the Westin and it reminded her of holidays with Wyatt's family. Oh, and that she would have the coolest last name ever - Chocklett. (Get it? Like chocolate, just spelled differently? Just me? Fine then.)
After Pia's graduation, we booked the Westin's Poinsett Ballroom. We then took Pia to the Poinsett Bride during their sample sale and got her the deal of the century on her wedding gown. (75% off! Amazing!)
B&R Events also designed their save-the-dates and invitations and was able to make them match the feel of their wedding.
Pia and Wyatt chose Wyatt's family church, Messiah Lutheran of Mauldin, to exchange their vows.

Pia told me that Wyatt had a childhood friend, Josh Rigsby, that was now a photographer. We love working with new vendors, so we helped her pick out a package that suited them.

Pia wanted a classic, almost vintage, style for the bridesmaids. We helped her choose a strapless, cotton sateen, navy dress that her girls loved. The flower girls wore a kelly green. The groomsmen wore gray suits with navy micro polka dot ties and the ushers wore the same suit but with kelly green micro dot ties. Wyatt sported a white bow tie.

B&R Events worked very closely with Dahlia to design Pia's flowers. Pia carried a bouquet of white peonies, the flower girls carried yellow and white pomanders made of mums, and the bridesmaids carried bouquets of yellow and white mums and lisianthus. Two large floral arrangements flanked the entrance of the church as well as the altar with draped white fabric and yellow ribbon. Two wreaths hung on the doors that Pia and Wyatt could hang on their door of their home one day. And the pew markers were yellow, white, and green flowers with flowing white and yellow ribbon. Perfect for a day time wedding.

Wyatt and Pia's guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the Westin's mezzanine while the bridal party was transported by the blue vintage trolley of Main Street Trolley. Guests were given their beer in kelly green koozies and enjoyed antipasto and fresh fruit.

Since Pia wanted the ultimate in springy weddings, we used a lot of color! Navy floor length linens with white runners. White chairs with kelly green sashes. Yellow linen on the cocktail tables with white ties. White lounge furniture with navy and yellow tone on tone polka dot pillows.

Even the floral arrangements had a thick yellow ribbon wrapped around the square vases. Dahlia incorporated Pia and Wyatt's colors in so many ways- lemons, floralytes, gel. As well as a gorgeous assortment of yellow, green, and white flowers.

Holly's Cakes made the gorgeous wedding cake. Holly used a brushed embroidery technique that mimicked the lace on Pia's gown.

After cocktail hour, their guests enjoyed heavy hors d'oeuvrves with stations. The stations- sliders and macaroni and cheese with pulled pork and other fixings were followed by amazing dance music by Black Tie Affair. Cake was enjoyed by all and then followed by milkshake shooters with kelly green straws.

Aside from the awesome green koozies, Mr. and Mrs. Chocklett gave out- you guessed it- chocolate bars! We designed the wrappers to match the overall theme for the day and used the same font that we had used for all the stationary.

Now here is where it gets interesting...

so.

Pia and Wyatt met Debbie, Josh (the photographer), and I on the second floor. Josh and Debbie were going to go up with Pia and Wyatt to the roof of the Westin to take sunset pictures in front of their iconic sign. I was going to clean up the ballroom and get everything gathered and do one last inventory. I was then going to meet them on the 11th floor, and we were going to ride down together and then take more photos in their room.

Well, as some may know, May 21st was during the BMW Charity Pro-Am. The tournament has many celebrity guests that visit and participate and stay downtown Greenville. Wayne Gretzky, Terry O'Quinn, Patrick Warburton, and Cheech Marin, just to name a few, participated in 2011.

I met everyone on the 11th floor and we loaded into the elevator. As the door was closing, a hand reached in and reopened the door. A tall and attractive man then entered the elevator and said hello to the five of us. I exchanged glances with Pia and her eyes got big.

"What's your name?" I asked the man.

He smiled and said, "Oliver."

I completely acted like a geek and said, "ARE YOU OLIVER HUDSON?"

"Yes," he replied, still smiling.

And this, my friends, is when Pia got to ask OLIVER HUDSON to congratulate her on her wedding day.

Then OLIVER HUDSON got off the elevator with us on the 2nd floor and took a picture with the new Mr. and Mrs. Chocklett.

And then Oliver (we are on a first name basis) KISSED Pia on the forehead and headed down the stairs to the lobby.

And then the five of us geeked out for another minute.

Annie and Brent: Explosion of Green and Polka Dots at the Wyche Pavilion and Huguenot Loft

When Annie first met with B&R Events she told us that when she met with Dahlia A Florist she wanted her centerpieces to "look like an explosion of green!" She told us that she wanted to have fun at her wedding and that along with the green, she was using black and white and she had picked out hair fascinators for her bridesmaids to wear.
That is when we knew Annie was our type of ~~girl~~ bride.
Though Annie just hired us for day of coordination, she trusted us for referrals. We were able to set her up with a hair stylist, make up artist, officiant, string quartet, and even helped her choose her fun table overlays (black and white polka dots!). Love that we include unlimited emails and text messages, even in the Marilyn Package!
Annie and Brent were married on April 9th in the Wyche Pavilion. A white limo pulled up beside the pavilion, and each bridesmaid was escorted out of the vehicle by a groomsman. Then Annie was escorted out by her father. Annie and Brent chose not to go the traditional route of the unity candle or sand ceremony, but decided to bind two bouquets of flowers together to create one.
Their guests were greeted by balloons and plenty of appetizers at the Huguenot Loft. Patrick Cox caught all the magic and fun, including the gorgeous cake by Kathy and Company, sorority sisters doing the limbo with feather boas, late night snack burgers, and a sparkler send off. We can't wait to get our disc and share it!

Sarah and Ryan: Pink and Old Fashioned at the Belton Depot

We met Sarah at the January Wedding Festivals show. Actually, one of the photos for the Greenville News was of our booth with Sarah in it. So, she is already kind of famous.

Sarah contacted us right away. You see, the wedding show was January 8th and Sarah and Ryan wanted to get married April 2nd. 12 weeks to plan a wedding from start to finish.

If you follow B & R Events, you know that this is no problem. We planned both Amy & Chris's big day and JoAnna & Chris's big day in both 5 weeks. We are well versed in short term planning.

Sarah and Ryan chose the little-big town of Belton for the nuptials and celebration. Sarah told me that she loved pink, black, and white as a color combination and wanted the wedding day to feel a little vintage.

Ryan wore a classic black tux, but his groomsmen had a different style. No jackets for them. Just the vest with the black tie and spectator shoes.

The ceremony took place at the Belton Depot, a 100 year old railway combined depot. Renee Burroughs Design used a combination of pink roses, apple blossoms, pearl sticks, and pale pink sweetheart roses for the floral and decor.

Sarah's dress was a stunning off white lace halter. She carried pale pink sweetheart roses. Her five bridesmaids wore classic strapless black dresses with pearl necklaces and peep-toe pumps.

275 of their closest family and friends watched Sarah and Ryan exchange vows. Jonathan Whitten sang a solo and a musical quintet played the processional and recessional.

The reception was held on the depot's lawn. B & R Events used prop chandelier's to dress up the tent, a combination of black and white base linens with damask overlays. The centerpieces were a combination of different height cylinders, candle hurricanes etched in a damask pattern, and jeweled black and white rounded vases.

The caterer's table fit right in the inactive railroad tracks. An assortment of southern appetizers was on the menu.

The Fortunate Sons kept the music upbeat for the guests. Their variety of sons ranged from current hits to oldies.

For the non-dancing guests, Jacob Dean set up a photo booth in the depot. The line was out the door the entire evening! A hit!

Their amazing cake was designed and created by Holly' Cakes. Sarah found the inspiration for their wedding cakes in a magazine, shared it with Holly, and they replicated it. Cake wasn't the only sweet on the menu; the guests were also treated to a candy buffet (pictured in the collage).

Sarah and Ryan borrowed a classic roadster for their getaway. They then took a two week honeymoon to Jamaica.

Kristen and Geoff: Old South meets New South at Larkins on the River Dowe Amphitheater and Wyche Pavilion

Kristen and Geoff are from Spartanburg. And you would think they knew everyone in the county with their 337 person guest list.

Upon first meeting, B&R Events got to meet the whole crew- Kristen, her mother (Betty), Geoff, his mother, and Geoff's sister/Kristen's maid of honor Dale. Kristen and the crew chose the Audrey package, partial planning. They had already picked the venue, had an officiant, someone to cover stationary, and a band. Kristen told me she was not shy when it came to color, and when I asked her what she liked she told me navy, aqua, coral, and white.

They needed all the other details, including a design. We quickly came up with a mood board- a combination of old south and new south. Shepherd hooks and damask, lace, polka dots,and mason jar toasting flutes (yes, they exist!) complimented with modern touches; a white dance floor, sleek lounge furniture,blue up lighting, glow in the dark party props, and a crazy soul band.

Kristen and Geoff used the huge Dowe Amphitheatre stage for their wedding. It was a gorgeous day- surprisingly warm for the beginning of March. And with a little breeze that stole Kristen's veil during the prayer.

The large bridal party to go with the larger than life event. 8 bridesmaids clad in navy dresses, 4 junior bridesmaids in aqua, and 7 groomsmen in classic tuxes.

Kristen mentioned that she loved polka dots...so we added the texture with the damask that was already in their design. Couture Cakes created this awesome 5 tier baby in all buttercream icing with the exception of the sugar flowers. There is a separation of tiers 3 and 4 of just sugar flowers. And do you see the subtle polka dot pattern created with the sugar flowers? (And the mason jar toasting flutes?)

B&R Events and Kristen chose white chivari chairs, navy linen bases, with white damask overlays. The lighting in the pavilion were brilliant white paper lanterns. Dahlia created the perfect centerpieces; the low ones had flowers on the outside of the vases to create the polka dot pattern again and the tall centerpieces were a hybrid of two vases combined. The flowers du jour? Blue and white hydrangea, white button mums, coral roses and gerbera daisies, blue delphinium, and coral hypernicum berry.

Lounge seating, a candy buffet, and a wine and beer bar all sat under the next next to the Reedy River. LOVE the coral damask pillows that we found on etsy.com.

Brittany and Paden: Veiled Rustic Wedding at the Cliffs at Glassy Chapel and Larkin's Sawmill

Brittany contacted us while she and Paden were finishing up law school. They both reside in Florida, but have family in the upstate.

Brittany and her mother, Rene, are crafty. Like, super-crafty. Like, reupholster-a-chair-and-make-pillows-for-the-wedding crafty. Like, lets-create-gorgeous-and-huge-silk-floral-spray-for-the-wedding-crafty. Got the picture? This is why we were totally in LOVE with them!

Brittany and Paden were married in a ceremony that had such a unique element- they invited their parents to the altar for a family prayer led by Brittany's dad, Buddy.

Brittany was the type of bride that knew exactly the feel she wanted for her big day- rustic, but with a softness. A touch of modern, but with a veil and a ruffle over it. She chose the Cliffs at Glassy Chapel for the ceremony and the Wyche Pavilion for her reception for these reasons.

"What?"you say, "on their collage it says the reception was at Larkin's Sawmill."

Well, you are correct. After planning Brittany and Paden's big day for 15 months, we had to move their Wyche Pavilion reception to the Sawmill...

...22 hours before the event.

You see, kids, the pavilion is fantastic against many elements. As long as there are not tsunami-like rain, it is still okay. As long as it is not like-an-Arctic-tundra-cold, it is still okay (with heaters).

Both tsunami rain and Arctic cold? No sir. We are moving it inside. And away from the river.

So, after rerouting all the vendors and creating a new floorplan, everything was taken care of.

Brittany found windows, and her dad took plexiglass and engraved it with the seating chart. She also made little silk rosettes to accent it.

A little photo-op area in the dining area. We rented an antique door and window, grabbed a white rug (on a mega sale at Aldi of all places!), and Brittany painted and reupholstered the other furniture.

The other soft seating area- complete with sofa table full of family photos in silver frames. We put tall slim candles in all the windows of the back part of the Sawmill to add more to Brittany's all white and grey color scheme. See the patterned pillows? The fabric was given to Brittany as a gift from her matron of honor and they then made pillows with it! She had some of the fabric left over, so we put it on the buffet.

Signs to note where the newlyweds sat. Vases were waiting at the table with the bridesmaids intials engraved. This was a gift and also part of the table decor.

Brittany's reaction to her cake table. Positively priceless. Not only did she positively love the 4 tier cake created by Holly's Cakes, but Dahlia a Florist also covered the table with roses.

Other awesome things to note in the photo: mason jars for the drinks, gray and white striped straws, family style tables (decked out with white crinkle linen and mahogany folding chairs), and what's that at the top? Oh, it is 104 yards of fabric that was swagged by Optrics.

(I am fibbing, there is also a large swag in the tiled area of the Sawmill and a large swag over the doors that lead into the tiled area. None of the less, 104 yards of fabric.)

That swagging is now a permanent fixture at the Sawmill. You can thank Brittany later.

Centerpieces were trinkets- candlesticks, small vases, little silver odds and ends found at thrift stores and filled with loose blooms and spanish moss. During the planning process, Brittany kept showing me white vases and asking me where to find them- B & R Events suggested painting wine bottles white. Brittany loved this and ended up using them as a vehicle for the table numbers that she crafted.

Each place setting was layered with a sage placemat and a grey napkin that was belted with their placecard.

While Brittany and Paden's wedding guests were dancing their legs off, the rain cleared for just a couple of minutes. And that is how we snagged this ~~Vanity Fair cover~~ portrait of the newlyweds.

Jennifer and Hunter: Downtown Holiday Wedding at Grace Church and Huguenot Loft

Jennifer is an attorney. Hunter is an engineer. Jennifer's dad is my family dentist. Jennifer's mom works in the office of her husband's practice.

Ya got that? OK.

Jenny and Hunter got engaged shortly after Jenny and her mom had visited Wedding Festivals "for a friend". Jenny and her mom were very complimentary of our booth and we were so happy to see a familiar couple of faces. As soon as Jenny got engaged, she made the call to B&R Events.

Jenny and Hunter were fairly flexible with their wedding date, as long as it did not conflict with Clemson foot ball and we were available. They ended up choosing December 18th, one week before Christmas.

Jenny chose a very pretty blue by Dessy called glacier. This went stunningly with all the deep red and green that Grace Church had used for holiday decor. The 150+ year old church, formerly known as Downtown Baptist Church, was the perfect location to precede their Huguenot Loft reception.

Music was so important to Jenny's dad for the ceremony. They had a string quartet, a pianist, and a soloist that sang "Ava Maria" before the processional.

After the ceremony, Jenny and Hunter's guests sipped on hot cocoa and coffee from Carolina Coffee Roasters while they quickly finished photos. They then led their guests with a marching jazz band to the Huguenot Loft for the reception.

Granatas Catering created a delicious custom menu- tons of tasty canapes, tenderloin and mashed potatoes, salads, and a creme brule station.

Blue, touches of copper and bronze, ivory,burgundy, natural wood, and deeeep green graced the Huguenot Lofts floors. We dressed the tables in a slate blue and accented them with burgundy crush taffeta runners and natural wood chivaris. The windows were filled with poinsettias and hydrangea. Dahlia created complimentary decor using hydrangea, seeded eucalyptus,pine, mums, dusty miller, juniper berries, cranberries, and angel vine, just to name a few elements.

The crowd enjoyed the band Current Invention, sipped on cocktails, and got jolly in the Shutterbooth photo booth. Paper Star Pictures worked as a team to collect video and images of the evening's festivities

Granatas Catering also created the wedding cake.

One word: Funfetti.

Oh yes they did.

At the end of the night, the band led everyone outside while they sang "Jingle Bells" and shook, well, jingle bells for Jenny and Hunter's horse drawn ~~sleigh~~ carriage.

In My Spare Time?

I get asked all the time, oh you must have a wedding every weekend, what do you do in your spare time?
I figured this would be a great time to answer that question, before I post about our last wedding of 2010 (and start posting about our 2011 couples). So, here are some of the things I did in my spare time, from spring 2010 to spring 2011.
WARNING: Picture HEAVY! (and gratuitous images of my husband being wacky.)

I moved.

I created an office to meet with clients.

I learned how to drive a pontoon boat.

Visited besties in Chucktown.

I visited Georgia with family from New Jersey.

I took a vacation.

We met celebrities

And visited my Mecca.

Franck's Studio; Where wedding dreams come true at the happiest place on Earth!

And got totally inspired.

I renewed my vows.

And got scary on Halloween.

Jersey. Like D's gold chain?

I went shopping.

And saw Cirque du Soliel for the nineth time (!).

Had a happy holiday.

Visited our nation's capital.

Where I saw some history.

Attended Junior League of Greenville's Oscar Night America as a sponsor.

And saw Cirque du Soliel...again. (No photo evidence of this...)

I hope that answers the question and gives a little insight into my personal life. I am so happy that I can share it!

JoAnna and Chris: Iris and Gardenia at Christ the King and the Marriott

JoAnna went to seminary. Chris is a musician. They were in a sorority and a fraternity that shared the same colors: pale blue and silver.

JoAnna contacted us 5 weeks before her wedding day...can we say that again? FIVE WEEKS. (5?!)

She has a budget, a unique ceremony, and a stipulation: no flowers and there had to be rigatoni at the reception. What can we say? B&R Events delivers!

Micki Franks with Fairytale Floral created the most excellent bouquet for JoAnna using silk gardenias, roses, and irises in a tussy mussy that JoAnna's father gave her. Why no flowers? Chris has terrible allergies, so having someone like Micki on speed dial really worked to our advantage. We used pale silver and pale blue satin overlays with silver candle holders for the centerpieces.

JoAnna and Chris exchanged vows at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Instead of the usual bouquets, the bridal party carried in different elements of the ceremony IE the cross and the bible. The families joined at the baptismal fount and walked in together, including JoAnna and Chris, side by side. Charlie Register was able to capture the unique and heart felt ceremony and even streamed it to JoAnna's family that couldn't make the trip.

The Marriott put together a delicious buffet- bread sticks, Caesar salad, rigatoni and linguini, alfredo, bolgonese, and olive oil sauces, with grilled chicken. Simple and delicious food. I still have dreams about those bread sticks.

And the cake? Well, JoAnna and Chris had to go out of town during their short planning period. JoAnna told me what she wanted the cake to look like, and that she wanted red velvet and carrot cake with cream cheese icing filling. Susan with Couture Cakes gave me samples that I gave to JoAnna promptly when they got back- delicious!

One of Chris's good friends is a DJ, so he took care of the tunes. And at the end of the night? KARAOKE.

Yes, I said it.

What a fun and sweet couple! Congrats again!

Julie and Adam: Hot Pink Whimsy at St. Pauls and the Wyche Pavilion

Julie and Adam are such a fun couple. Julie knew that she wanted to use B&R Events after we worked with her bridesmaid Megan.

Julie wanted her wedding to be fun and whimsical. She chose a really fantastic color scheme; fuschia, orange, and black. Unconventional for the November wedding date, but SO refreshing (we LOVE pink). Julie's bridemaid's wore black gowns with chunky black and white jewelry and fuschia shoes and Reagan, the flowergirl and Adam's daughter, wore a fuschia dress with a black sash. Instead of a veil, Julie opted for a white and fuschia fascinator to complement her ballgown.

Their ceremony was at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Main Street. A trolley transported the bridal party and out of town guests. Charlie Register snapped photos all around the church's unique campus and set up a photo booth for the reception.

The reception was at Larkin's on the River's Wyche Pavilion. White and black table linens adorned the tables and Dahlia created different arrangements using pink stargazer lilies, orange birds of paradise, and other bright and fun fuschia and orange blooms. Alabaster Rose Sweetheart Table at Wedding Festivals

We decided to do a sweet little table for two for the tabletop display at the January Wedding Festivals.

Another simple but lovely concept: cascading linens, pearls, roses, ivory shells, and white dishes.

We love the idea of the bride and groom's monogram wreath hanging behind them.

We loved our alabaster rose sweetheart table. We felt that it was a great addition to the table top area at Wedding Festivals.

Crystal Coral at Wedding Festivals

B&R Events loves participating in Wedding Festivals. Our theme was rather simple: Crystal Coral.

Our color palette was coral, white, and navy. We up lit the back of our booth with a rose light.

We took cylinder vases, filled them with coral vase filler, manzanita branches, and movie star and polar star roses. We used crystal garland for the bling and illustrated how you can incorporate a monogram on the vase.

Look at this fancy little guy! With bling in the middle!

And to continue with the crystal theme - diamond shaped paper weights at each place setting as favors.

We used midnight and rose coral iridescent crushed linens. It was just the perfect amount of sparkle.

The drink? A blushing bride cocktail. Champagne, grenadine, and peach schnapps.

Chanel and Marcus: Sangria, Pearls, and Jazz at the Hyatt Regency

Chanel's sweet mother, Cynthia, contacted B&R Events to assist with Chanel and Marcus's big day. They were interested in our day of coordination package (the Marilyn) for their wedding day.

Marcus and Chanel chose the Hyatt Regency Greenville for their ceremony and reception. They got married in the second floor atrium and had their reception in the Teal Suite. Chanel chose sangria as the color for her big day- a moody purpley-pink created by David's Bridal. Chanel also told Debbie (the "B" to the B&R Events) that she loved music "and all things jazzy". SW Studios was able to capture all the moments leading up to the big "I dos".

The ceremony was gorgeous with Marcus's aunt singing the Lord's Prayer (someone get the woman a recording deal!) and Marcus welling up during the vows. The ceremony and reception music was styled by Sam and Dusty Brooks (Sam for the ceremony and his singing, Dusty to lead in the dancing).

Cynthia's dear friend created the centerpieces, and B&R Events went behind and added feathers, pearls, and signs with musical touches. The bouquets, personal flowers, and the head table arrangement all had touches of white feathers and pearls as well. The guests enjoyed a custom buffet that was absolutely scrumptious. Couture Cakes of Greenville created their cake with a sangria colored bow that matched the wedding day decor. The guests danced the night away, and Chanel and Marcus's precious baby girl, Morgan, even made an appearance before bed time.
