The Mother of 1084 (Hajar Churashir Ma) by Mahasweta Devi, a Bengali writer, which was originally published in 1975 is a captivating book as it describes the turmoil’s of a mother who loses her son during the Naxalite uprisings that was occurring between the late 1960’s and the early 1970’s. As Mahasweta Devi leads us through the a jourey of a women who is supressed to silence by her husband, and her children whose eyes are opened to reality through the death of her son whom she loved so dearly. Through a simple style of writing which eases the readers into feeling as if they are in mother Sujata Chatterjee’s shoes enduring the same grief within their hearts, you will be moved to tears as you read.

Sujata Chatterjee, comes from a middle class well to do family, has a job at the bank, a degree which was originally obtained simply to increase her status for the prospects of marriage, and has four children, two daughter’s (Tuli and Nipa), and two son’s (Joyti and Brati). As the wife of a Chartered Accountant Divyanath Chatterjee, who has extra martial affairs which his mother and sadly enough his children are aware of and his daughter Tuli supports is trapped in a world which is really nothing of what it seems to be like in the view of those who stand outside of the family. Everything is done in an orderly fashion in silence and it isn’t till Sujata wakes up to a phone call one day from the police station asking her husband to come identify a corpse which was lying in the morgue that her world and all order shatter little by little. On identifying the corpse to be his son Brati, Divyanath immediately makes all the proper arrangements so that the fact that the news of his son having died along with others involved in the Naxalite movement does not appear in the newspaper along with the others’ names, a selfish motive to protect the families reputation. His father refuses to give him a proper cermoney, and Brati who is known as Corpse No.1084 is burned at the mourge along with the others who were killed by opposing group in their village in Calcutta.on the night of Jan 16. Brati is rejected and abandoned by his father, and other family memebers due to the reasons which led to his death.

Now during the present day and time, it is a year later, and Sujata Chatterjee’s daughter Tuli is to be engaged on Jan 16, the anniversery of Brati’s death. Since Brati’s death Sujata has condemened to pain, whom out of all her childern she loved the most. The amount of love that Sujata had for Brati was innumerable, however in a slow process she comes to understand that she never really knew her son.

On the day of his death anniversery she rethinks about the day Brati was born, of how Brati as little boy who was scared very easily had grown up to become a young man who rejected the norms of the society and fought for what he believed in. Brati as a young man became someone whom his mother did not recoginze, who took care of her, loving, and caring for her dearly. He spoke up against the orderliness that his father so seemingly set. And it is through the meetings that Sujata has with the people that were close to Brati, that knew the real him she discovers who the young Brati had grown up to become.

As Sujata meets another mother whose son Somu was a close friend of Brati’s and killed along with him that night, tells Sujata about Brati, his laughter, and the closeness of which Brati, and his friend’s shared. On finding out that Brati’s last few hours on the night before he was killed was spent at Somu’s house, Sujata goes on about visiting Somu’s mother, and listens to the pain of someone who is placed in the same position as her in losing her son Somu, but effected in a different way. Sujata later on comes to meet Nandini, the girl whom Brati loved, and who holds the same beliefs as him in fighting against the system through the Naxalite movement. Nandini reveals to Sujata, how Brati was betrayed by his friend, and that is why Brati, and his friends had been killed that night. She explains to Sujata what Brati believed in, and why, how he was supposed to leave to go to another state a few days before he had died, but stayed for one more day because of Sujata. Nandini opens up the pages of Brati’s life showing her the love Brati had for his mother. As Sujata listens she is slowly brought out from her hiding as a silenced mother, and wife, whose only duty in the household was to produce children, and follow the society’s norms at the time. She learns to find a sense of freedom through the death of her favorite son Brati, and as she continues to grive in her heart, the love between a mother and a son is unraveled in the deepest senses.

League matches are all over, some of them were rather dull but the happy point is that most of them had very exciting finishes, especially the KXIP vs. DC and the CSK vs. KKR. Controversies have hit the IPL 5, but it cannot overshadow the excitement of the game.

Four teams will now fight it out for a position in the final. Delhi Daredevils sits at the top of the table with 22 points. The Kolkata team came all the way but finished one point behind. Mumbai Indians a favorite among many finished third and a lucky Chennai Super kings barely got in.

The top two, the DD and KKR will meet again for the first qualifier and most probably go in for a nail biting finish today. These top two were the most consistent teams in this edition of IPL. With their explosive batting line up, they can tear any bowling attack apart.

For DD captain Virender Sehwag lead the team from the front, if he clicks then there will be nothing to stop to go in to the finals. Every DD fan will be praying that Sehwag’s willow not to be short of runs. David Warner is another power house forDelhi; he can smack the cricket ball to the remotest corner of the Stadium. The explosiveness of these two batsmen are complimented by the grace of Mahela and the spirit of all rounder’s like Irfan Pathan.

KKR is also not short of any firepower. New Zealander Brendon McCullum is perhaps the most explosive batsmen in IPL history after Chris Gayle. Goutam Gambhir leads team from the front. Shakid Al Hasan can do some magic with the bat.

When it comes to the bowling both teams are equally strong, for DD Morne Morkel, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav has proven their firepower in the league matches. For KKR Bret Lee will be coming back after a 3 match gap, Sunil Narine being a revelation for KKR with IQBAL Abdulla and Shakib brings in top quality spin attack.

The match will be played today at Pune at 8.00 PM and live on Sony Max, don’t miss it.

The teams (From)

Delhi Daredevils: Virender Sehwag (Capt), Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardena, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Puneet Bisht, Robin Bist, Naman Ojha (wk), Shahbaz Nadeem, Venugopal Rao, Vikas Mishra, Yogesh Nagar, Zafir Patel, Sunny Gupta, Tejashwi Yadav, Aavishkar Salvi, Kuldeep Raval, Manpreet Juneja, Pawan Negi, Prashant Naik, Aaron Finch, Andre Russell, Doug Bracewell, Glenn Maxwell, Gulam Bodi, Morne Morkel, Roelf van der Merwe.

The girl next door or an emblematic mallu girl with all the usual Kerala girls’ activity deposits, were the definitions given to the present epoch Super Hot n Super Cool actress Remya Nambeeshan. Back in her normal girly days, she was busy hovering around her dance and music educators soliciting to teach her the best lessons. And this spirit and guts made her the tinsel town’s little princess. Remya, who has always made us stand dumbstruck with her unique surprise factors, shares her unique film journey experience with the unique times:

Q: What surprise can we expect from Remya from her upcoming Malayalam flick “the bachelors party”?

A: For me what counts is the scope of a character. If I find that surprise element which I can give my audience in a particular character, I won’t think twice for taking it up. Bachelor’s party is one such experiment I would say. Just like ‘traffic’ and ‘chaapa kurish’, it will definitely have exclusivity, but my character is totally unlike the ones I have done earlier. Be it stones or roses, I am ready to accept it.

Q: Your name is well plated in all the ‘WOODS’ in South India. Where and how are we going to watch Remya in 2012?

A: I am over and done with doing all my works for 2012. Bachelor’s party and husbands in Goa will have my contributions to mollywood. In tollywood, ‘Salaamath’ is going to be my next release. A luminous group of young and aspiring talented artists have joined hands in a Tamil flick ‘PIZZA’ and that would be my this year’s kollywood release. Wait and Watch

Q: How did you come into into the Singing side of the industry?

A: It all began a year ago when I was attending a reality show as a guest judge. That day Music Director Sharath sir came to know that I am passionate about music. A time came when he wanted a fresh voice with a unique temper for his folk track in the film “Ivan megharoopan”. He says my name came to his mind first as he remembered the day we talked about music. The feedback was amazing. Almost all the industry people rang me up to convey their appreciation and I finally felt like I am at the pink of the hell. After that sang two more songs – one for “bachelor party” and the other for “thattathin marayathu”.

Q: You can be well compared and called as the ‘Mollywood Vidya Balan” as you try out the sides which many artists thought were impossible. Would you dare to do a movie like Dirty Picture?

A: I would definitely consider such a brave script. But to commit it or not, that decision can be taken thinking about the circumstances and the situation. I never say a ‘NO’ until unless I have a solid and genuine reason to say.

Q: Will you go for a plump make over as the size zero trends are replaced by the curvy one?

A: I would prefer ‘setting’ a trend rather than ‘imitating’ it. I will not choose to go for something which doesn’t make me contented and which doesn’t suit me. The way I look now and the way I will appear in the future have got nothing to do with the sparkling trends of the time.

Q: What is that one particular thing which drives Remya crazy?

A: ‘Music Music Music’. I am unbelievably passionate about music. For me it varies from time to time. Classical to fusion to jazz to rock. Anything would do. My dream is to end up as a singing actress.

Q: Are you a travel freak?

A: As I work for the whole South Indian Film Industry, I get to travel a lot. I was not a travel freak before. But I think this amazingly freaky industry would turn me into a travel freak soon. Nowadays, when I sit alone during my free time, I have even started thinking about touring even to the wildest places on earth.

Q: Which place in your opinion is the best shopping hub in India?

A: That would definitely be Chennai. When my costume flavor and sanity is considered, Chennai gives me everything I want and I know many fabulous shopping outlets there.

Q: How is Remya Nambeeshan when she takes the veil of a sensuous actress?

A: I am kind of a chill out person who does not want any tension bundle to hang on to my shoulder. I was equally busy even before I became an actress, with all the school and youth fest activities. So I know very well how to manage both my personal and professional life.

Q: Are you ready to share your ‘Success Mantra’ with the readers?

Ans: Why not? I haven’t woven any success fabric of my own. Think positive. Do not spend time digging out the negatives of a particular thing. Try to see its positive side and go bravely for it. For certain things, we might a good amount of mettle. Gain that guts and move on.

You wake up one morning, and what do you find when you look in the mirror? A slight hint on your skin of an emerging pimple, or a zit, maybe your skin is too oily, or too dry, your skin is just simply irritated, you have crow’s feet under your eyes, or what seems to be the worst of all possibilities, ta-ta-da Mr. or respectfully Miss. Wrinkles have started appearing right on your forehead. These are the common everyday problems that not only girls face but guys as well despite the age. Once you reach the teenage years from then it seems like you’re facing an eternity of pimples, zits, oily faces, dry skin and all the skin problems that may exist. You try several different types of face wash, go to a dermatologist, try the products that seem to have only herbal ingredients yet nothing seems to work or they work for a while, then the problems start again or new problems arises. Finally you sink to desperate measures when you can’t seem to escape, and you take that foundation or powder and cover up whatever is popping up on your face. You just want to be perfect, be like the girl in the magazine, or the macho looking guy with the glistening skin on TV, but you can’t find a way. Well pull yourself out from the loads of makeup, the face washes, the zit creams and listen the secret to the perfect skin is . . . not really a secret. Three simple factors play into keeping your skin glowing and healthy, it’s just in the way that you take care of yourself mentally, emotionally and most important physically that helps you keep a clear and perfect skin.

Factor number one when you are not mentally unstable, where you are distracted by work, school, family and friends, a million thoughts and unsolvable dilemmas run through your head like morning news’ headlines, know that it shows on your face like the blue sky on a sunny day. It’s a downer, but it’s the truth. Then there’s the emotional part of it, it’s a no brainer, when you are cranky or simply feeling blue and a frown appears on your face, it comes with a BEAWARE sign. These frowns and worry lines on your face are some of the main contributors to the additional wrinkles that will eventually start appearing on your face later on as you age. So turn that frown upside down. Now though last, the limelight obviously needs to be shed onto this one, the physical aspects which reason into keeping your skin perfect. When you are physically healthy meaning daily exercise along with eating healthy and delicious food on a timely basis, half of your problems will disappear because always keep in mind you are what you eat. So with these three factors in mind how should you go on about your way to obtaining your dream of the perfect skin minus all the products with the names of ingredients which seems impossible to pronounce for anyone?

Well here is key to the much sought after treasure…

Drink Lots and Lots of Water -the rule is that an individual should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It’s not just a measure of hydrating yourself but it also washes out the toxins from your organs and helps to provide the cells in your body nutrients. These toxins include hormones that trigger the acne that appear your face.

Avoid Oily and Greasy Foods- this does not mean you have to stop eating oily or greasy foods, but limit yourself to an extreme level because it causes a particular chemical named sebum to increase in your body which causes acne.

Have Your Daily Fruits and Veggies- Remember an apple a day keeps the doctor away, though its mainly intended towards keeping your teeth healthy, it also helps with your skin, always remember have you daily fruits and veggies. Especially the green vegetables just think about achieving the perfect skin and you’ll learn to eat it.

Have Food Containing Omega 3 Acids- omega 3 acids . . . you might be wondering what in the world?? Well omega 3 is an acid that can be found in foods like flax seeds, cauliflower, mainly fish, cabbage, cooked soybeans, and mustard seeds that can help dry and itchy skin.

Have Foods Containing Antioxidants- Antioxidants is your defense mechanism for fighting a splurge of wrinkles, so binge out on fruits like different berries (which contain the highest level of antioxidants), apples, oranges, plums, and red grapes!

Avoid washing your face too much- Washing your face too much can make your skin too dry, so wash your face at least once or twice daily, because your skin needs at least a little oil to be kept moist.

Exercise daily- Even if it’s just for 20 or 30 minutes a day exercise daily, when you sweat it’s good for your skin, due to the fact that it opens up your pores and cleanses it. The more perspire the better . . . just remember to take a cold shower afterwards, you don’t want to drive anyone away with your after workout odor.

Avoid make-up- Your setting yourself on the highway to looking more aged than you really are on this one. Make-up does not better your skin, only for the time you have it on does it make your skin look pretty, that is if you look from afar. . .

Avoid Using Facial Products With Names of Ingredient That are Impossible to Pronounce- If you can’t say it then don’t use it, half of the names of the ingredients involved in making the creams to prevent various types of skin problems is gibberish so how do you know all these manmade chemicals will help your skin?

Varanasi is also a mirror of the age-old Indian civilization. Often referred to as Benares, Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world. These few lines by Mark Twain say it all: “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”. Hindus believe that one who is graced to die on the land of Varanasi would attain salvation and freedom from the cycle of birth and re-birth. Abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati, the origins of Varanasi are yet unknown. Ganges in Varanasi is believed to have the power to wash away the sins of mortals.

With a number of temples, Mrs. Annie Besant chose Varanasi as the home for her ‘Theosophical Society’ and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, to institute ‘Benares Hindu University, the biggest University in Asia. Ayurveda is said to be originated at Varanasi and is believed to be the basis of modern medical sciences such as Plastic surgery, Cataract and Calculus operations. Maharshi Patanjali, the preceptor of Ayurveda and Yoga, was also affiliated with Varanasi, the holy city. Varanasi is also famous for its trade and commerce, especially for the finest silks and gold and silver brocades, since the early days.

Honored authors such as the ever-famous novelist Prem Chand and Tulsi Das, the famous saint-poet who wrote Ram Charit Manas. Aptly called as the cultural capital of India, Varanasi has provided the right platform for all cultural activities to flourish. Many exponents of dance and music have come from Varanasi. Ravi Shankar, the internationally renowned Sitar maestro and Ustad Bismillah Khan, (the famous Shehnai player) are all sons of the blessed city or have lived here for major part of their lives.

HOW TO REACH :-
