Sharon Speedway has joined the ULMS Racing Series family for the 2012 season. Both the ULMS Late Model Series and the United Emod Series will be competing at the Hartford, Ohio oval. There is one confirmed ULMS Late Model event date with possibility of two more shows being added. The UEMS Emods will be at Sharon three times in 2012 with a possibility of a fourth date being added to the schedule.

“I am very pleased to bring both series to Sharon Speedway in 2012. Dave Willoughby and I have talked over past year about getting ULMS and UEMS at Sharon and last year, timing was never good for neither of us, commented ULMS Racing Series director, Chris Zuver.” Zuver continued, “I made it a priority of to get Sharon Speedway on board for the 2012. The day after our last event of 2011, I was on the phone leaving messages to Mr. Willoughby and the talks all have been positive, I am really looking forward to bringing the ULMS and UEMS Emods to Sharon for the first time ever in 2012!”

The 2012 ULMS Racing Series schedule is still being worked on with dates being discussed with several tracks still for both series. A final schedule is expected to be released in end of January or beginning of February.

The curtain fell on the 2011 United Emod Series tour last night at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. The UEMS Emods made their first ever visit to Don Martin’s palace with a healthy 34 car field entering the season ending Steel City Stampede event.
Dave Hess of Waterford, PA continued his mastery in the UEMS events as he picked up his seventh win of the season, while Joel Watson of Conneaut, Ohio won his first ever UEMS championship dethroning three time UEMS champion, Randy Hall.

Hess and last years defending Steel City Stampede champion, Brian Ruhlman of Clark Lake, Michigan shared the front row. The two perennial UEMS and UMP Emod stars paced the field and it was Hess to the lead at the start on the very slick track. The first yellow would come out on lap two with Hess your leader over Ruhlman and Randy Hall quickly up to third from his sixth place starting spot when the first yellow came out for Jonathan Taylor who was spun by his brother Evan. Hess would choose the outside lane for the double file restart and it would be a wise decision. Ruhlman tried to nose ahead of Hess but could not do it. A series of cautions kept the field tight and close behind the two front leaders as Hall had challenges from Carl McKinney.

With the very slick track resulting from a mid day start, the racing from fifth on back was phenomenal as the UEMS stars were dicing and slicing three and four wide at times. Allen Dellinger, Deana Groves and Joel Watson were waged in a tight battle for several laps as was Larry Kugel, Al Brewer and Russ Dunn as they were all in the top ten throughout the event. Disaster struck for third place UEMS point car, Dan Davies as his car came to a stop in turn four to tighten the field one more time, but Ruhlman had nothing for Hess on the restart. Hess drove to his seventh UEMS Emod victory of the season and his first at Lernerville where he was the 2011 track late model champion. Ruhlman came home second with Hall, McKinney, Dellinger rounding out the top five. Joel Watson’s sixth place finish was more than what he needed to take home the 2011 UEMS title. Finishing behind Watson was consolation winner, John Boyd who started 21st, Larry Kugel, Jaik Halpainy was ninth after starting 25th and Al Brewer came home tenth in the final run down.

Watson becomes the second UEMS champion in the series history dethroning Randy Hall’s three year reign. Watson was the 2011 Raceway 7 champion and had two UEMS wins this year, but consistent finishes kept the Conneaut, Ohio driver on top of the point sheet most of the season. Hess victory was his seventh of the year with UEMS as he pocketed the lions share of the money in over $12,000 in his seven UEMS wins in 2011.

It all started in 2006 with the first annual MCR Fall Classic when Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pennsylvania captured the very first Priority Care RaceFAN 50. On Saturday night, Chubzilla became the first two time winner of the event sanctioned by the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models. Wayne Robertson of Corning, NY won the FASTRAK Northeast Regional Late Model event, Dave Hess Jr of Waterford, PA won the United Emod Series portion and Chris Austin of Knapp Creek, NY won the street stock feature.

The front row for the highly anticipated Priority Care RaceFAN 50 saw 2008 winner, Boom Briggs and Dutch Davies on the front row. The Bear Lake Bonzai shot in front of Davies on the start as Chub was in town and got around. Briggs built a quick four car length lead over Chub with sixth place starter Dan Stone quickly into third on lap two as Davies slid back to fourth. The first yellow of the event came out on lap five for Rob Blair and local World of Outlaw star, Ron Davies. Davies was done for the night and Blair the 2007 event winner would be able to return. On the restart, Chub outgunned Briggs and the two Bear Lake PA residents ran door to door with Chub being scored the leader on lap six by a nose. Once out in front, Frank started to pull away as Boom was now being hotly contested from Stone, Davies and World of Outlaw star, Rick Eckert of York, PA.

Chub would see his first lap car on lap 18 and the bright orange #1* cleared the slower car but this was just the beginning of the rear of the field. Meantime, Eckert picked off both Davies and Stone and was working on Briggs for second. Briggs, Eckert and Stone would run two and three wide for multiple laps as Briggs and Eckert working the low side and “Big Brother” Stone using the outside groove. The trio along Dutch Davies and South Park, Pennsylvania driver, Jared Miley had started to close within ten car lengths of Chub and the makings of barnburner was coming. Stone would get around Briggs on lap 29 and Miley would get by Davies on lap 32 to claim fifth. Frank was having extreme difficult getting around the lap car of Chad Valone and this allowed Stone and Eckert pull up along side of Chub for the lead and on lap thirty five Stone would go around Chub in turn two take the lead to lead lap 36, but Chubzilla came roaring back and got the lead back from Stone as he slid high turns 3 and 4 allowing Eckert to jump into second as the two World of Outlaw stars were now 1-2 in the running order. With Eckert nipping at Chubs heals and Stone charging back on the outside the fans were on their feet. The entire complex of the event changed on lap 46 for Davies who sat in the front stretch for the second yellow of the event. With the ULMS double Delaware restart Chub rocketed on the restart away from Eckert as Stone, Briggs and Miley battled for third. Chub would easily pace the final four laps to capture his second Priority Care RaceFAN 50 over Eckert who finished second for the third time in his three visits to MCR! Stone came home third, with Briggs and Miley rounding out the top five. Dick Barton was sixth followed by the 2011 ULMS Champion, Mike Knight, 2009 Priority Care winner; Russ King, Gregg Satterlee and Rich Gardner came home tenth.

The FASTRAK Late Models had their 25 lap regional series event saw Mike Pegher Jr and Robertson on the front row with series point leader, Max Blair in the third position. Max quickly moved into second behind Pegher on the opening lap. Pegher had Blair on his rear bumper for the opening laps and the other car on the move was Joe Martin who worked his way to third by lap five from his eighth place starting spot. Josh Holtgraver moved into the top five by the halfway point as Pegher still had Blair glued to his rear bumper with Martin just in front of Robertson. A lap 17 yellow for Ryan Montgomery tightened the field back up and this put Blair on the outside of Pegher with Martin and Robertson on their rear bumpers. After the restart, Chad Valone made a few bold moves to enter the top five as Blair and Pegher waged war for the lead. With one lap to go Blair made a darting move to the inside of Pegher in turn one and making contact with Pegher spinning on the backstretch bringing out the yellow. Inheriting the lead was Robertson who had been sitting in third watching the leaders swap tin. Robertson would survive two more restarts in the final lap to hold of Martin for his first ever FASTRAK Regional Series win. Valone came home third ahead of Kyle Zimmerman and local teenage standout, Damien Bidwell in fifth.

The United Emod Series held their next to last event of the 2011 season. The front row consisted of the top two point chasers. Current point leader, Joel Watson and defending three time champion, Randy Hall on his outside. Watson shot into the lead on the start over Hall with Mike Kinney in tow. By lap four the five time 2011 winner, Dave Hess started to make his presence known as he rocketed into third from his eighth place starting spot. Hall and Hess were locked into a heated battle for second and on lap eight, Hess and Hall would make contact in turn four allowing Hess to fully take over the second spot. Bob Close would start to make his presence known as he was pressuring Hall for third with Kinney and Al Brewer within reach as well at the half way point. Hess would chase down Watson and the two Emod stars battle for the lead as Close would take third from Hall on lap fourteen. A lap nineteen yellow would set the stage for the final six laps and o the restart, Hess bolted into the lead from the outside to never look back for his sixth UEMS win of the season along with the $1700 prize money and winning his fifth Emod event of the Fall Classic. Watson came home second with Close third in the backup Travis Asel machine. Hall was fourth with Mike Kinney coming home fifth with a smoking motor.

Hometown driver, Dustin Raught and John Woodward Jr. who won Thursday night’s program were the front row starters for the 20 lap feature event. Woodward picked up where he left off on Thursday night, out in front at the start with Levi Watson in tow and seventh place starting Chris Austin in third. The caution would come out on lap 6 for Watson and this would put Austin on the outside of Woodward for the restart. Woodward and Austin would put on a great display of racing as the #22A of Austin was trying everything to get by the leader Woodward. While this was going on Brad Ullman and Lance Palmer were going at it for third. With laps clicking off Austin was still trying to find a way around Woodward as Rich Wojtowicz and Critter Hemphill in the top five. With five to go, Austin would make a sweeping outside move coming out of turn two and drive his car off the backstretch and complete the pass on Woodward in turn three to grab the lead and distance himself over the final five laps to win over Woodward, Ullman, Wojtowicz and Hemphill.

Thirty-seven Emods were in the pits for the second day of Stateline Speedway’s Labor Day weekend of events. On a very hot day and and all the heavy hitters in the pits, it was the 2011 track champion, Greg Johnson standing in victory lane with the $1000 and his first ever United Emod Series win at his home track.

Twenty four cars started the main event after four heats and two consolations events were completed. Johnson and Dan Davies led the field to Mark Matthews green flag with the first yellow being thrown as six cars were collected in a first lap incident in turn one. Chad Ramsey ruined the next restart with a spin in turn one. The third attempt saw seven cars tangle coming to the green as one car spun on the next attempt. A lap was finally completed on the fifth attempt but the yellow followed after Kyle Bedell had problems in turn three. The race finally seemed to settle down as Johnson led with Gurdak three car lengths back. Eighth place starting, Dave Hess took third from Davies. Hess and Davies make contact on lap ten as they battled for the third spot. With eight laps left the battle was for second between Hess and Gurdak. Gurdak would not budge for the inside as Hess tried every line for the pass. Johnson won the event in heavy lap traffic capping his Championship season with his third win of the season at Stateline and his first ever UEMS win. Gurdak held off the fierce challenges of Hess for second while Alex Froman came home fourth with Davies capturing the fifth position. Dave Shagla passed eleven cars for sixth with nineteenth starting, John Boyd in seventh, followed by Brian Douglas, 24th starter, Bud Watson came home ninth and defending series champion, Randy Hall was tenth at the conclusion of the 25 lap event after being involved in the very first lap one yellow.

Heat winners for the 37 cars on hand were Joel Watson, Dave Hess, Scott Gurdak and John Boardman, while Shagla and Dave Atkinson won the two consolation events. Butch Southwell was added to the field as the top car in Stateline Speedway points that did not qualify while, 3rd place car in UEMS points, Bud Watson had to use the UEMS provisional to capture the UEMS – Close Racing Supply Hard Charger award.

UEMS will be back in action on September 16-17 at Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway in part of the Tri Star Pittsburgher. The UEMS Emods will race for $1200 to win and $200 to start in the 32 car field. For more information on the Tri Star Pittsburgher, visit the website at www.ppms.com. UEMS will round out the month of September at McKean County Raceway for the 6th annual MCR Fall Classic with a $1000 to win event on Friday, September 23 and $1500 to win on September 24. The ULMS Late Models will be at both the Pittsburgher and Fall Classic events. The 2011 season winds down on with the two day show on October 21-22 at Lernerville Speedway in part of the annual Steel City Stampede paying $1000 to win for the UEMS Emods.

It is hard to believe, but the 2011 racing season is starting to wind down in the northeast and the ULMS Racing Series tunes up the band for the September end of season specials, beginning on Labor Day weekend at Stateline Speedway for the United Emod Series (UEMS).

The United Emod Series was suppose to be at Tri City Speedway during the Labor Day weekend, but after the track closed abruptly, Stateline Speedway in Bust, New York picked up the UEMS Emods for their fourth visit to 1/3 mile oval with a $1000 to win event to close out the track’s 55th Anniversary season on Saturday, September 3rd.

UEMS will be led by point leader, Joel Watson of Conneaut, OH, while three time defending series champion, Randy Hall now sits in second in the UEMS points. Watson has a 46 point lead over Hall (311-265) while Dan Davies sits in third in points with 235. The point chase behind Davies is real tight with Bud Watson seven points behind (228) and Kyle Bedell sitting in fifth one point (227) behind Watson and Justin Carlson with 226 points while Jack Young sits seventh in the tight point chase with 222 points, just 13 points out of third!

The Stateline faithful of Greg Johnson, Rich Michael, Scott Gurdak, Alex Froman, Ron Seeley will all be fending off the challenges of the UEMS tour drivers along with Dave Hess Jr. who has won four UEMS wins this year and seems to win everything at Stateline! Racing starts at 7PM with $12 adult admission and $25 pit fee.

The ULMS Racing Series will be off for a week and then head to Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway for the 22nd annual Tri Star Pittsburgher on September 15-17th. Both the UEMS Emods and the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models will be in competition at the “Monster!”

Thursday, September 15th will be open practice for all competitors, while the action starts on Friday, September 16 with the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models in competition with the UFo Late Models in the 33 lap $2000 to win I-Monster. The UEMS Emods will compete in their qualifying heat events on Friday evening. Keith Barbara won the I-Monster in 2010. This event will be a ULMS point event.

On Saturday, September 17 the 22nd annual Tri Star Pittsburgher will be on tap for the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models and the UFo Late Models with a 66 lap $7000 to win event. Davey Johnson won the 2010 edition of the Tri Star Pittsburgher and has won the past two joint ULMS/UFo sanctioned events at PPMS in 2011 including most recently the Red Miley Rumble. Thirty-two cars will start the 66 lap event with 32nd place getting $400.

The UEMS Emods will be running their 28 lap $1200 to win portion of the Tri Star Pittsburgher on Saturday evening. Thirty-two cars will start the event with $200 just to start the event and all non qualifiers will receive $100 in tow. Combined two day adult grandstand tickets are $45 with single day Friday ticket being $20 and Saturday ticket price for adult grandstands being $30. Single day pit passes are $38 with two-day pit passes going for $70.

The ULMS Racing Series ends the month of September at their “home” track in E. Smethport, Pennsylvania on September 22-24th. The 6th Annual MCR Fall Classic at McKean County Raceway. The Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models will be featured with the $13,000 to win Priority Care RaceFAN 50 to conclude the three day event.

The action kicks off on Thursday, September 22nd with open practice for all classes and the annual ULMS Late Model King of the Hill featuring a $1500 to win, six lap finale. Dave Hess Jr. won the KOH in 2010.

On Friday, September 23rd, the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models will compete in the Dave Lundgren Memorial. The payout is still being determined but it will pay a minimum of $3000 to win and the ULMS Late Models will time trial for their qualifying heat positions. Former two time ULMS champion, Dick Barton captured this event last year. The United Emod Series will also be in action with a 25 lap $1000 to win event and they will pill draw for their event.

On Saturday, September 24th, the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models will be gunning for the $13,000 prize money in the 6th annual Priority Care RaceFAN 50. There has been five different winners, will there be a sixth or will Chub Frank, Rob Blair, Boom Briggs, Russ King or Brady Smith become the first two time winner? A quality field of entries is expected to be on hand from race teams all over Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, West Virginia and elsewhere. Time Trials again will set up the qualifying heat events for the Priority Care RaceFAN 50.

The United Emod Series will be running another 25 lap event but this one will pay $1500 to win. With this being the next to last UEMS event on the 2011 schedule, the point races will be really heating up in the top ten. Randy Hall has won two of the past three Emod events at MCR, while Joel Watson captured the last UEMS event at MCR. Those two will be the odds on favorites, but do not count out Davies, Carlson, Asel, Michael, Bedell, Brewer, Southwell and many others.

ULMS and UEMS race teams are reminded that MCR will be using the Raceiver Transponder (the yellow transponder) for the Fall Classic weekend. A outside contractor will be renting the transponders and the rental will be $20 for the weekend. If you have a red hardwired transponder, it will not work with the yellow Raceiver transponder system. Also the one-way Raceiver communication will also be used in all ULMS and UEMS events in September.
