The board member will support the work of Helping Our Heroes (HOH) and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by HOH's Executive Director (ED) , the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific board member responsibilities will include:

Leadership, governance and oversight
■Serving as a trusted advisor to the ED as she develops and implements HOH’s strategic plan
■Spearheading HOH fundraising endeavors, including identifying and targeting foundations and other potential grant sources for revenues (though the actual grant writing could be done by other individuals if need be)
■Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by HOH for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
■Approving HOH’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
■Assisting the ED and Board in identifying and recruiting other board members
■Partnering with the ED and other board members to ensure that Board resolutions are carried out
■Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
■Representing HOH to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
■Ensuring HOH’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities HOH serves

Prior campaign experience is a plus and there are rapid advancement opportunities for qualified individuals.

We are looking for someone with strong organizational skills and experience in data management and program evaluation. This position includes managing data collection from clients and volunteers to develop and maintain our customized database. The Systems Manager will work in a small team-oriented environment to ensure that students in our program receive the support they need to improve their grades and confidence in school.

AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) provides full-time members to nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs that ultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.

VISTA responsibilities include:

• Maintain database to ensure proper collection and reporting

• Create training model and train staff on remote data collection

• Gather data and help create tool to evaluate program services

• Work with Database Consultant to develop reports to track volunteer retention

• Publicize organization for fundraising and volunteer opportunities

Qualifications:

• College degree

• Experience with data collection, reporting and management

• Strong interest and commitment to community, service, and social change

• Ability to take initiative and work independently and cooperatively in a group

• Strong organizational skills, project and multi-task management, public speaking

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Most Americans want consumer protections, but instead we are giving billions of dollars in subsidies to big agriculture to promote fatty and dangerous foods. And the majority of Americans want measures that ensure social justice for everyone; but in the six states and Washington, D.C., who have provided equal marriage rights, LGBT couples are still denied over 1,100 federal rights. Obviously, many of our decision makers are listening to the deep-pocketed industry lobbyists and have lost touch with the average American.

America's leading advocacy groups are gearing up to meet these challenges. They know to break the gridlock and make real progress they'll need a surge of citizen support and grassroots action. That's where we come in.

At the Fund for the Public Interest, we've been organizing campaigns to protect the environment, stand up for the public interest, and defend human rights for more than 25 years. We've helped protect our pristine wilderness areas with Environment America, and working on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign, we helped organize the grassroots opposition needed to repeal the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Working with Environment California, Environment Washington and Environment Oregon, we've educated tens of thousands of people about the toxic soup of trash swirling off our coast, spreading the movement for bag bans from city to city and mustered the public support necessary for communities to take steps to stop the waste.
	Promote Healthy Food We're making kids' lunches healthier. Childhood obesity rates continually rise every year in our country, threatening our youth with a future of heart disease and diabetes. After months of campaigning across the country for U.S. PIRG, we were able to build enough support to get President Obama to pass the Child Nutrition Act. This new law provides thousands more children school-based meal programs that will be more nutritious, providing a brighter, healthier future for our children. We continue this work with U.S. PIRG as we push to end the big taxpayer subsidies for junk food.
	Cut America's Oil Addiction We're putting more electric cars, hybrids and other energy-efficient vehicles on the road. Thanks in part to the public support mobilized by our canvassers, this past year President Obama announced strong new clean car standards that will cut oil use by as much as 23 billion gallons per year. Environmental Action is pushing to cut America's oil use by 50% by 2030, and we're building support and mobilizing activists around the country to urge our leaders to take the next step forward.
