United We Drink Welcomes Tim Johnson as New Co-Host

The United We Drink podcast is extremely happy to welcome Tim Johnson as a new co-host to the show. Tim has been a multiple time guest on the pod and a big part of the collaboration efforts between United We Drink and Bitter Units for charity live streams.

“I’m really excited to join my friends and bring a different perspective on the industry,” says Johnson. “As an avid listener before, I already heard myself chiming in to no one when I wished I could comment. Now I get to.”

Johnson is a beverage industry veteran having nearly a decade of experience in the brewing industry. He currently works at Dashfire, in Minneapolis, MN, making spirits, bitters, RTDs and much more.

“I missed the 3 person dynamic that the show previously had,” said Mike Jurewicz, founder and co-host. “Adding Tim made too much sense. He was a friend of the show and just a straight forward friend. I’m looking forward to this.”

Tim’s first episode as a co-host will debut on March 20, 2024.

Phil Leaving the Show

If you joined in on our Charity Live Stream from Friday you probably heard the news that our own co-host, Phil Palmisano, will be stepping away from the show to focus on his family and job. While we will certainly miss Phil we can not fault a person for wanting to spend more time on the things that are important.

Phil was one of the founding members of the show during it’s original run and the driving force in reuniting with Mike and Joel to restart the show in 2019. We hope that we will be able to get the news man back on the show from time to time to give his interpretation of trends and maybe even finally get Mike and Joel to understand IRI data.

We are beyond happy to announce to we will be joining forces with our friends from Bitter Units for a Christmas Fundraiser Live Stream on Friday, December 11th at 8pm Eastern. We will be raising money for Feeding America and 100% of all donations go straight to them. NO FEES! You can even make donations on the page starting now! We will be ending the fundraiser on December 14th. So if you can’t make it to the stream you can still help out.

We will be going live on December 11th at 8pm on Twitch and go until we can’t go no more! We hope that you can join us for some beers, fun banter and raising money for a good cause!

Reboots usually aren’t great – look at Arrested Development. We’re not, by any stretch, trying to compare the original run of this poorly-produced, often absent-minded craft beer podcast to the genius of the original TV series. But sometimes the people that created something special feel the need to regroup and create again. The reunion and the act of once again making something with those people is a feeling that’s tough to shake. And when things sort of fall into place all too perfectly, how can you say no?

We’ve talked about reuniting for some time. Occasionally we were serious, having heart-to-hearts about missing one another. Other times we were drinking and only half serious–despite us saying at the time “I’m so serious”–after going on an industry-related rant. Nonetheless, here we are, recording our podcast again.

We think we’ve come a long way since the days of drunkenly limping through an episode with little to no preparation, relying on curse words and comically bad accents to be the bulk of the show. We admit there will probably still be cursing and maybe a few bad accents (apologies in advance). But the three of us have spent these last few years growing in an industry that is radically different from when the last episode aired in 2016, let alone our first show in 2009. Damn, that was a long time ago.

With all that combined experience and an itch to get back behind the microphones it simply felt like the right time to bring back United We Drink. We want to share our experiences and knowledge. We want to laugh or get serious. We want to drink beers and, sometimes, even just some water. And then some beer again.

Expect episodes to be bi-weekly for the time being, with the first one coming at you very soon. We’ll be available on all the usual podcasting services (Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Podcasts, etc) pretty quickly as well. If you don’t see us on your preferred service, hang tight and we’ll get it posted.

For those old listeners who have made their way back- sup? Hopefully we don’t disappoint. For those new listeners, newer friends who don’t believe we once had a podcast, and random folks who somehow found us – welcome to the ride.
