Precious, Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, finally comes out tomorrow. Precious movie release date is Friday, November 6th . I've been dying to see this movie ever since I heard the buzz from film festivals months ago. I scoured the web to find out more info, and watched the trailer more times than I care to admit. The film follows the heart wrenching life of an obese young girl who is abused and neglected by her parents and made to feel invisible and worthless in the world--but it's also a story of hope. Every time I watch the trailer I can't help but tear up. Watch the Precious movie trailer below

Fort Hood shooting

Fort Hood officials report 12 killed, including the gunman, and 31 wounded. Officials said gunman opened fire Thursday on a soldier-processing center at Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Lt. Gen. Bob Cone said the gunman was a soldier at the base. Two other soldiers have also been detained as suspects. According to law enforcement source the slain gunman was identified as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan.

Cone said at a news conference the shooting began around 1:30 p.m. All the casualties took place at the base's Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening. "It's a terrible tragedy. It's stunning," Cone said.

Cone said investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name or if he changed his name and converted to Islam at some point in his life.

The soldier used two handguns in the attack. It was not clear if the gunman had stopped to reload. Ten of the dead were soldiers. One of the victims was a civilian police officer who was working as a contractor on the base, Cone said.

Fort Hood spokesman Christopher Hogue said two of the injured were in "very serious" condition.

At least 25,000 people are at Fort Hood on any given day. The base is home to the Warrior Combat Stress Reset Program which is designed to help soldiers overcome combat stress issues.

Steve Phillips fired, Steve Phillips fired by ESPN

Steve Phillips fired by ESPN, less than a week after his brief but stormy summertime affair with a 22-year-old production assistant came to light. The network made the announcement last night during Game 6 of the ALCS, which Phillips normally would have been analyzing in a TV studio.

"Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN," the network said in a statement.

"His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways."

Phillips' representative, Steve Lefkowitz, last night issued a statement saying Phillips "is voluntarily admitting himself to an in-patient treatment facility to address his personal issues."

The statement did not specify the nature of the personal issues, but Phillips was believed to be planning to check himself in several days before ESPN made its announcement.

Phillips previously had taken a leave of absence after details emerged of his relationship with Brooke Hundley, whom he met when the two were working at the All-Star Game in St. Louis.

Phillips and his wife, Marni, issued statements to police describing harassing phone calls by Hundley after the relationship ended, and at least one visit by Hundley to their Wilton, Conn., home in mid-August.

Phillips, 46, had risen steadily on ESPN's depth chart, joining Jon Miller and Joe Morgan in the game booth on Sunday nights. During his time as the Mets' general manager, he admitted to extramarital affairs, at least one with a person on the team's staff.

My Super Psycho Sweet Sixteen: you have to take some of the protagonists’ word for their teenaged status; “You only turn 16 once,” says antiheroine Madison Penrose (Julianna Guill), who looks like she’s turned 16 at least four or five times. Madison wants to reopen the long-shuttered Roller Dome as the site of her big bash, despite a horrible past tragedy that occurred there. “Ten Years Ago,” to the tune of Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping” and Limp Bizkit’s “Nookie” (and to some of us, that line is kinda scary), we’re shown how Roller Dome employee Charlie Rotter (Alex Van) slaughtered six young patrons after they made fun of him.

Rotter’s daughter Skye witnessed the massacre, and in the present day, she’s a Winona Ryder-esque high-school outcast (Lauren McKnight) who’s taunted by Madison and her fellow mean girls—especially when Madison’s jock ex-boyfriend Brigg (Chris Zylka) starts showing an interest in Skye. This vaguely CARRIE-esque storyline gives way to I KNOW WHERE YOU SKATED LAST SUMMER as the extravagant party begins, Skye and her nerdy, platonic-but-wants-to-be-more pal Derek (Matt Angel) crash and someone in a mask, hood and cape ensemble begins racking up a behind-the-scenes body count. Has Charlie returned to the scene of his old crime? Probably not, since he apparently burned to death in a prisoner-van accident, so the potential culprits include the bullied Derek, who certainly has reason to off members of the popular crowd, and, briefly, a sleazy Roller Dome employee who puts the moves on Madison. (“Are you sure you’re 16? You look way older to me,” he says, perhaps making an inside joke.)

Every so often, there’s a satirical moment involving the spoiled Madison’s exorbitant demands for her party, but the movie wants to have its birthday cake and eat it too, reveling in the trappings of wealth as often as it criticizes them. For the most part, it’s content to spin its conventional minidramas among the young people in between the scenes where they’re stalked and slain. Most of these are standard-issue in conception as well, though it must be said that Jacob Gentry, in an odd choice of follow-up to helming the middle third of THE SIGNAL, directs the heck out of MY SUPER PSYCHO’s horror material. With cinematographer Thomas Bingham, he drenches the screen in eye-catching lighting tricks that lend more visual excitement than you usually find in a made-for-TV flick.

Susan Klebold Essay: Susan Klebold has published an essay in “O”, the Oprah magazine, talking about her son Dylan and his role in the Columbine school shootings that took place a decade ago. This essay is easily the biggest public statement by any of the parents involved in the Columbine shootings.

Klebold says in the essay that she had no idea her son was depressed or suicidal. The essay is entitled “I will never know why” and Susan Klebold goes on to write:

“For the rest of my life, I will be haunted by the horror and anguish Dylan caused. I cannot look at a child in a grocery store or on the street without thinking about how my son’s schoolmates spent the last moments of their lives,” Klebold writes. “Dylan changed everything I believed about myself, about God, about family, and about love.”

US Debt Clock

The US Debt Clock which was installed on the face of a Manhattan building made headlines months ago because this second generation version of the original US debt clock had run out of capacity: it only had room for 13 digits (not including cents!). Since the US national debt surpassed $10 trillion, there are plans to replace it with a new version.

There is an online version of the US debt clock which keeps track of the debt on a real time basis and also features a whole slew of metrics such as the debt per person, the amount of debt held by foreign countries, private debt per citizen (think credit and mortgages), and so on. Below is a screen shot, but click on the picture (or here) to see the clock being updated in real time. Absolutely staggering stuff. Makes me want to decrease my allocation to US equities…

Mike Tyson On Oprah. You will watch Mike Tyson On Oprah Winfrey Show in this Monday. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson says he doesn't want to know what led to his 4-year-old daughter's death.

During an interview on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that aired Monday, Tyson called his daughter Exodus "my angel." Exodus died at a Phoenix hospital on May 26, a day after her neck apparently was caught in a treadmill cord.

Tyson told Winfrey that he didn't want to know details of her death because "if somebody's to blame for it there will be a problem."

The former boxer says his first instinct was rage but now he has no animosity or anger toward anyone. He called his family "my biggest asset." Tyson also says his children are "the only thing that matters to me now."

He was the subject of the recent movie "Tyson," which was based on interviews with him.

Family Guy Corn Maze

A farmer in the United States has cut two of the characters from Family Guy, the cult animated comedy, into a maze on his property.

Stewie and Brian form the centrepiece of this year’s seven acre “Corn Maize” at Connors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts.

Bob Connors, the owner of the farm, has even approached Seth MacFarlane in the hope of persuading the Family Guy creator to pay a visit.

“We’ve been trying to get in touch with him. I’d love to have him do the voices here on our busy weekend,” he told the Boston Globe.

The makers of Family Guy, a sharp comedy about an average American family with a talking dog, posed no objections to the use of its characters in the maze. The programme is shown on the Fox Network in the US, and BBC3 in Britain.

“They waived the rights and all that,” Mr Connors added. “We have to run everything by them, but they’ve been great.”

While corn, tomatoes and other crops are still grown on the farm, it boosts its income with an annual maze and other activities to attract families, including hayrides and fruit picking.

This year’s effort, which is only open until the end of the month, features the Griffin family’s highly intelligent but misanthropic baby, Stewie, pointing up in anger at his friend Brian, the erudite family pet.

Baltimore Marathon

The Baltimore Marathon 2009 is underway this morning and there will be winners streaming in to the finish line throughout the day. Also known as The Baltimore Running Festival, there are an estimated 20,000 people running through the streets of Baltimore today with crowds cheering them on. Runners from 44 countries and every state will run, including five Olympians.

Results from the 2009 Baltimore Marathon will be easy to access, thanks to the Internet. Race updates will be provided on Twitter throughout the day as The Baltimore Sun newspaper keeps track of results and current happenings at this annual event. Results for individual runners can be accessed on Active.com by simply entering the runner's name or bib number.

The Baltimore Marathon is more than just a running event. Thousands of city residents will participate in the festivities and be there to cheer on the winners as they cross the finish line. Celebration Village is set up near the finish line and will feature live music, interactive games, food and drink until 3 PM. The Village is free there will be plenty of activities for children, as well.

Not only is this a day for runners hoping to win The Baltimore Marathon, it is also a great day for the economy in Baltimore. The size of the event means big business for local businesses. Research done by Towson University revealed that each marathoner brings two people with them and spends about $200 by staying in Baltimore hotels and eating in local restaurants.

Baltimore Business Journal's Heather Harlan stated, "Last year, in the throes of a recession, it generated $22 million. So, the hope is that this year it will go up at least another $4 million, so we will see a $25 million or upwards impact for the businesses that desperately need it right now."

As the 2009 Baltimore Marathon runners race to the finish line, it will prove to be a day full of festivities, goodwill and economic stimulation for the Baltimore area. Results will be streaming in as the runners and the crowds enjoy a exciting day in Baltimore.

The Kandi Burruss fiance funeral was held today. The Kandi Burruss fiance died last week. news about the death of AJ Jewell has arrived. He died last weekend after a fight with a person. It is said that Fredrick Richardson was the person who was seen in fighting with A.J Jewell at the parking lot of the Atlanta Strip Club. The fight started because of the issue over a woman.

He had blows on his head but it is also reported that he was seen talking and walking after the fight and even he was seen sitting in a car with his friend. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that he had physically injured and had injury signs too but these are undetermined and further investigations will raise the curtain that what was actual reason of his death.

There was a performance for him on Thursday at the Donald Trimble Mortuary from 7-8 PM in Decatur while funeral will proceed today at The Ray of Hope Christian Church in Decatur, Georgia. The suspected Fredrick Richardson has refused all the charges and will be brought back to court on 20th October.

His girl friend is shocked. She said that she had not thought about it for a second that she was talking with him last time on phone. She said she had many things to tell him and she ought to told him but now its too late. Burruss released a statement about his death on Sunday.

Obama wins Nobel Prize – President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

Many observers were shocked by the unexpected choice so early in the Obama presidency, which began less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline and has yet to yield concrete achievements in peacemaking.

Some around the world objected to the choice of Obama, who still oversees wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and has launched deadly counter-terror strikes in Pakistan and Somalia.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee countered that it was trying "to promote what he stands for and the positive processes that have started now." It lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen the U.S. role in combating climate change.

The peace prize was created partly to encourage ongoing peace efforts but Obama's efforts are at far earlier stages than past winners'. The Nobel committee acknowledged that they may not bear fruit at all.

The Santa Cruz Islands earthquake of October 7, 2009, 22:18 UTC occurred on or near the plate boundary between the Australia and Pacific plates. In the region of the earthquake, the Australia plate moves to the east-northeast with respect to the Pacific plate at a velocity of about 91 mm/year. The Australia plate thrusts under the Pacific plate at the New Hebrides trench and dips to the east-northeast. The October 7 earthquake’s location, depth, and focal mechanism are consistent with the earthquake having occurred as thrust-faulting associated with subduction along the Australia-Pacific plate boundary.

The earthquake of October 7, 2009, 22:18 UTC occurred about 60 km north of, and 15 minutes after, a similarly sized earthquake of the same date, 22:03 UTC. The two events also share similar focal mechanisms. Seismologists sometimes refer to a a pair of similarly sized shocks that occur closely spaced in time and location as an earthquake "doublet."

Similarly sized earthquake pairs, or doublets, have previously been observed along this subduction zone. On April 21, 1997 an earthquake doublet occurred in the Vanuatu region with at least one event of M 7.7.

The Vanuatu region experiences a very high level of earthquake activity, with over a dozen events of magnitude 7 and larger having been recorded since the early decades of the twentieth century. The subducting Australia plate is seismically active to depths of about 350 km beneath the islands.

Recent large earthquakes near the October 7 event include the similarly sized event 15 minutes earlier, a M 7.2 earthquake in 2007 and a M 7.3 earthquake in 1999.

Santa Cruz Island

Santa Cruz Island was the largest privately owned island off the continental United States, but is currently part-owned by the National Park service (NPS owns 24%, and the Nature Conservancy owns 76%).

A central valley splits the island along the Santa Cruz Island Fault, with volcanic rock on the north and older sedimentary rock on the south.

Santa Cruz is the only place where the Island Scrub Jay is found.

Every few days, Google continues to change its logo to commemorate significant events in history. Last week, it was Gandhi’s birthday and his photo appeared alongside the login, the week before it was Google’s 11th birthday. The logo today is a barcode because today is the 57th anniversary of the first patent of the barcode. The first patent for the barcode was by inventors Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver. The original patent applied to a system that encodes data in circles and could be scanned from any direction. Over the years, the barcode system evolved into the rectangular barcode with strips of black and white line which is what we see today.

Tom DeLay hangs up his 'Dancing' shoes

LOS ANGELES – It wasn't two left feet, but two fractured feet that forced Tom DeLay to hang up his dancing shoes on Tuesday.

The former House Republican Whip said he's taking his doctor's advice and leaving the ABC television show "Dancing With the Stars."

DeLay has been diagnosed with stress fractures in both feet from the rigors of dancing and must wear foot braces when away from the ballroom.

Doctors and producers urged the 62-year-old to withdraw from the dance-off. But he was determined to continue Monday, performing a sufficient samba with professional partner Cheryl Burke.

The former Texas congressman said his next dance would have been the Texas two-step. Show host Tom Bergeron invited DeLay to perform the dance on the season finale if his feet were up to it.

DeLay and Burke finished one point away from last place Monday, earning 15 points out of 30.
