HBO, already fully involved with rated R and NC 17 softcore television programming, was looking to move into the animation department, and really did not know how. "Who has cartoon nudity outside Japan? Let's see what old Bakshi is doing, he likes drawing cartoon tits." -HBO Producers, probably.

What happens when you combine one part Red Shoe Diaries, one part Cool World, and a splash of L.A. Confidential.. with a Blade Runner garnish? Well Spicy City of course! Six episodes, approved for a second season, but HBO wanted actual writers, so Bakshi just pulled the plug and walked away. I found this watching MTV's Downtown and really enjoyed it, especially the VR episode. There is a feeling that this could be in the Cool World universe very easily with the look, feel and characters.

He eats metal instead of food, and somehow this lets him generate guns from thin air when needed, and the guns generated occasionally have strange properties. A much different plot arch than most; unique. Eat Man is a VERY overlooked anime series that makes very few lists. Each episode is it's own stand alone story with new guns, a new girl, and new themes for each one. Great animation for the late 90's, and not known or taken serious for it's action. Deaths are treated seriously and portraying as artowork. The soundtrack/music stand out as possibly the best of the time. Long shots, brooding silence, lots in common with the Area 88 anime in the way for direction and production. Trust me- watch this.

Boo! - WGN/CBC Channel 9 Halloween Variety Show

I'm not sure what to make of this one.

Someone at WGN/CBC in 1982 decided what the world needed was a comedy/horror themed variety show with special guests, musical numbers, and parodies.. and tossed a bunch of money at it. This long obscure and forgotten about broadcast was traded between fest-goers at conventions for it's nostalgic value, and strange Star Wars themed block that used actual props and costumes from the movies.

It even has some animation!

Directed by Danny Mann and starring Rip Taylor, Peter Cullen, and Dionne Warwick providing musical numbers, this was destined to only air once and be forgotten about. If anyone remembered a SNL format Universal monsters show, heavily weighed down by disco music, but could not remember the name.. I'm fairly sure this is what they were talking about.

One scene sticks out.

In one scene they are obviously parodying the Star Wars cantina, but giving it a disco vibe. Again, more disco, which seemed pretty late in 1982. They some how got their hands on some of the costumes from the movies or the Holiday special, and put them to great use here.

The Eternal Evil of Asia (1995) This movie is.. something.

Whatever you think is going to be, you're wrong.

There is so much with this movie to unpack. The Eternal Evil of Asia is about the Chinese thinking they are not part of Asia, and Asia casts evil spells on the people of China. Warning: This movie has extreme nudity, violence, and sexual themes that are VERY uncensored. I'm not sure how this got made in China to be honest.

This man was cursed with a penis head. Yes he does "things" with it, and occasionally pees.

I can't follow the theme of this very well, and I don't expect you to either. Just know that there are demons, gang bangs, phantoms, incest, and fantasy comedy-violence-demon-sex all the time and that is all that is important.

At one point two demons trap someone in their abortion they shoot out like fruit by the foot, they fly into the air and shoot nukes while having sky sex, eventually, she loses her head and teeth, to the delight of everyone.

I don't have too much else to say, and I can't post more pictures and clips because they would be an issue for my site. Just click the link above and watch and it and be amazed.

MTV's Downtown (1999) Full Series

A series far ahead of it's time. MTV's Downtown is obviously inspired by Ralph Bakshi's storytelling and grit of his 70's work. The lingo, the animation, the characters.. if you lived in a city in a decent sized downtown in the 90's or early 2000's, this series will very much resonate with you.

Massive Attack scored the series, and because of licensing issues, the series was never released on DVD or VHS with the audio fully intact. Thankfully, it's been released on youtube. Already cancelled, the series was nominated for an Emmy, but no second season was commissioned by MTV.

My take: I'm a nerd, had a decent job, and my own place before all my friends, and hung out in my downtown area at the time. This really hits home with me. It was tough but not impossible to manage multiple friends groups, pay bills, and attempting to have a life at the same time in the early 2000's. I moved out when I was 19 years old in 2000. If you graduated in the late 90's and lived in a big city, this is for you. Pre-cellphone era vibes, when it meant more to have personal relationships and have conversations. Episode 5: The Con really had me thinking of how we have a lot of same things just on a different scale today. Comic-Cons, Furries, D&D groups, niche fan groups.. it has it all. Nothing has changed; all these things existed in each decade from the 70's to today.

1. Dehydrated Pizza Hut Pizza

Movie: Back to the Future Part II (1989)
What it is: A tiny, three-inch disc that resembles a hard cookie. Most likely made of play-doh and movie magic.
The Sci-Fi Twist: When placed inside a Black & Decker Hydrator for exactly 12 seconds, it instantly balloons into a full-sized, steaming-hot gourmet pizza. As a kid, who didnt want to have this in their house? Think of all the things you could re-hydrate. 10/10 Would eat.

2. The Stuff

Movie: The Stuff (1985)
What it is: A sweet, creamy, marshmallow-like goo found bubbling up from the earth.
The Sci-Fi Twist: It is marketed as a zero-calorie, highly addictive dessert. However, the treat is actually a sentient, parasitic organism that eats consumers from the inside out, turning them into mindless hollow zombies. This is one of things on this list that actually looks good, like marshmallow fluff. I'll risk it- bring on the Stuff. My brother Jared really liked this movie, and would pretend to eat "Stuff" at dinner.

3. Gagh

Movie: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)
What it is: A traditional, snake-like Klingon delicacy.
The Sci-Fi Twist: Gagh is famously made of serpent worms and is preferred to be eaten alive so the consumer can feel the worms squirming down their throat. Also on the list of top 3 strange things Klingons like to eat that are also sightly gay in nature. I would eat this if I was sitting at a table with Klingons because I want to be accepted by them, and it seems like a manly thing to do.

4. Synthetic Food Blocks (Noodles and Mush)

Movie: Blade Runner (1982)
What it is: The street food served at the neon-lit, rainy noodle bars of dystopian Los Angeles.
The Sci-Fi Twist: In a dying world where real animals and plants are nearly extinct, citizens survive on highly processed, synthetic protein blocks shaped into fast-food noodles. I don't think this was ever mentioned in the movie, but it's in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K. Dick. I want to say this is related to Soylent Green in a way, or the next food item on the list. Again, I would 100% eat this.. in the rain. With Harrison Ford. Blade Runner gets a pass as it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

5. Alien "Human" Fast Food

Movie: Bad Taste (1987)
What it is: Crumble-like meat pies and stews.
The Sci-Fi Twist: In Peter Jackson's debut film, an intergalactic alien corporation invades a small New Zealand town to harvest the human population, intending to turn them into the primary ingredient for an alien fast-food franchise. When pieces of your late relatives liquify and drip into your food, or are your food, maybe avoid it. Ill pass on this one.

6. Roasted Slime Worms

Movie: Enemy Mine (1985)
What it is: Long, grotesque, indigenous alien invertebrates.
The Sci-Fi Twist: Stranded on a hostile planet, a human soldier and an alien enemy are forced to survive by pulling large, slimy, slug-like worms out of the ground and roasting them over an open fire. My buddy Gary really liked this movie, with its homosexual undertones. I'll pass on the slug-roasting though.

7. Perri-Air

Movie: Spaceballs (1987)
What it is: Canned breathable air, packaged like sparkling water.
The Sci-Fi Twist: After the bureaucratic leaders of Planet Spaceball foolishly deplete their own atmosphere, the elite resort to snorting and drinking "Perri-Air"—a parody of Perrier bottled water—shipped straight from pristine planets. I don't see a reason to hate this. It's possible Mel Brooks knew all along we would be buying cans of air and huffing them in the future.

8. Crushed "Bug" Paste

Movie: Dune (1984)
What it is: A highly nutritious paste gathered by the Fremen.
The Sci-Fi Twist: To survive the brutal, arid desert of Arrakis, the native Fremen rely on survival suits that recycle body moisture, supplemented by heavily processed, nutrient-dense pastes made from desert insects and fungi. Another hard pass for me, but if I was tripping full on balls on a desert death planet, maybe I would take a ride on some bug paste to stay alive. Shrug.

9. "New" Soylent Ration Bars

Movie: Soylent Green (1973) / Continual 80s Pop Culture
What it is: High-protein, mass-produced green colored survival crackers.
The Sci-Fi Twist: While the legendary movie Soylent Green technically hit theaters in 1973, its bleak vision of a world completely dependent on fake, processed ration blocks heavily dictated the aesthetic of 1980s dystopian cinema. "It's People!" My mom would quote this movie growing up when she was baking in the kitchen, so I feel horribly nostalgic for wanting to try biscuits made of ground up human.

10. Alien Pod Omelets

Movie: Critters 2: The Main Course (1988)
What it is: Bright, speckled eggs prepared at a local diner.
The Sci-Fi Twist: An unsuspecting short-order cook finds a batch of large, exotic-looking eggs and cracks them onto a grill to serve to customers, completely unaware that they are actually the unhatched pods of flesh-eating alien monsters. I get grossed out by this. Do with that information what you will.

The introduction monologue:

"In the year 1991, crime in America is out of control. Prisons were overloaded, police forces were understaffed. Gun battles in city streets became commonplace; No one was safe. The cities had become the battlefields of the future, and the criminals were winning the war. The public demanded change, and the government responded. Police departments across the country were shut down, and law enforcement was give over to private enterprise. Civilian Operated Police Incorporated (C.O.P.S.) took over, and within two years, crime was under control. The price however, was a heavy one, for justice as we knew it, ceased to exist."

I very much liked the cool mug shots on the TV in the opening.

Right away we are introduced to David Carradine, and let's be clear, he is not an imposing picture of a man by this point in his life. Pot belly and slow movements, and the complexion of a 2 pack a day smoker really set the tone. I spent more time typing out the introduction monologue than was spent on character development or plot for this movie. I digress.. lets move on.

The hard coded subs make it better IMO.

Holy shit.

Within the first six minutes of the movie, we are introduced to the main character of the movie: The Robot Arm thingy. Cars explode, then we are shown some cassette futurism retro tech.

This is rad. I want one.

I would keep going, but I don't want to totally ruin the movie for those of you that actually want to enjoy it. My only advice is that you look at the cars and technology in the background of this movie, it's actually quite a cool throwback. Oh, and remember, they made a sequel.

Time Gooning - A verb

Time Gooning - The act of creating or using a time travel device for the express purpose of gooning on people from your past.

Dangers:

Going back in time to goon on yourself would create a paradox and potentially end your time line or destroy the universe.
Traveling back to a point of time where you would be having an orgasm to experience it again, could create a paradox loop of orgasms that you could not escape easily.
When going back to the future, you still express the same post nut disappointment
You still age even if no one else around you does when you visit them at certain times, so when going back to the future, people notice you have aged in your goon-travels and you would have to explain yourself.
People will know what you have done in the future if you don't remember to go back in time to correct it.

Examples:

Time Cop - Van Damm goes back in time to goon on his dead wife which causes depression possible paradox.
Back to the Future - Marty goes back in time and unknowingly goons on his mom
Slipstream - Sean Astin goons on a bank teller at the beginning, sexually harassing her over and over.

Tales of Wedding Rings checks an enormous amount of boxes for most anime fans:

Isekai - Or character transported to another world
Ecchi - Playful sexual interactions.. 18+ Seinen
High quality Dub available
Fan service, Harem
Does not quit after 12 episodes
Action is decent, writing is also decent

I'm only a few episodes in, and I like the playful comedy of it, and there is not a ton of sex and nudity, if that makes you uneasy.. but it somewhat implied. Don't take this one too seriously, but don't miss it either. I have been trying to branch out in other genre's lately, and for those who like High School DxD, you may like this more than most.

PC Build and Initial Thoughts - RTX 5090 & Core Ultra 9 285k Series 2

Retired is the venerable RTX 2080 and 10700k Combo that kept my gaming career alive the last 7 years, retired to the garage as a working and reliable substitute if ever we need it again. Much like a SR71 Blackbird- it will be reactivated when needed.

Why did I upgrade?

I had wanted to upgrade to 1440p and use our spare 4k monitor in the garage for gaming for some time, but the 2080 can barley cut the mustard when it comes to Ray Tracing and frame rate at those resolutions, so I was stuck with some good but old 1080p monitors. It was time to upgrade the monitors, but I had to get everything with the PC in line first. Unfortunately the PC was a little late, so the monitors were the first upgrade, as mentioned in a previous post.. for a steal. It's been over 6 years. It's fucking time.

Why 5090?

I mean, why not. If you can get it for around MSRP, I think the answer is do it. You can spend over 2k for a 5080, but if you wait and do the research, you can get something you want for the same amount.. which was what I did for this particular PC. I know it's overkill, but the last time I had a cutting edge PC was over 6 years ago, I think its time to go flagship again and really play these new games how they were intended to be played.

Why Intel??

I know I'm going to get a bunch of shit for not getting one of the new AMD X3D processors that are beating the pants of anything for the same price. 2 year old processors from team green still can rate very highly in most gaming benchmarks. I get it.

I like intel. IMO - No issues, compatible, reliable.
My son has a 14700k and the thing is still a performance beast in anything you throw at it. The lifespan is pretty good.
Power draw and temps are lower
Great for gaming and productivity both
I think they will make more improvement down the road
Known AMD issues with processors melting and getting sent back sounds scary to me
Price was $100 lower than a Ryzen 9 9950x3d for very similar performance

Other Notes: On the surface, I really don't know what to say that I have not already. I'm doing everything I did before, but everything is just so much better. Fast, damn near totally silent. I never realized how loud my old PC was when things were ramping up. I feel like I could take on anything, any game, I never have to look at the graphic details.. just turn them all up to max. I miss this feeling. Do you want to play Cyberpunk 2077 on Overdrive? Yeah, me too, so here we are. There is a noticeable but very faint sound as the power supply turns on and off when I'm doing different tasks; this is the only perceptible sound I can hear from the PC at any time, even during gaming. Even when benchmarking on 3Dmark's Time Spy Extreme, I never hit 60c on the video card or the processor. I reran the benchmark twice without changing anything, my best score was 22858. With some light overclocking, I can see getting easily into the 25k range.

How do you think I was able to afford this? All the discounts available, $1000 off the price of a new 5090.. the list goes on. You can buy this total build refurbished for $6999 right now, which is way less than the cost of the parts if you can get them with the bullshittery going on with ram pricing. The parts I did have to complete this build were all bought on sale. I'm very aware of the review by Gamers Nexus, and made notes when watching it. Scam? I think that's a little harsh. I bought a new revision of essentially the same item, and have zero issues with anything out of the gate except for bloat, which took me 15 minutes to uninstall. Did I have to go into the BIOS and click the "Unlock" button to get all the features I paid for? Yes, and that was a 2 minute pain in the ass that I'm willing to deal with. Overall I thought his review was very exaggerated until the end, where he actually reviewed the PC with the performance unlocked, and everything worked fine. Criticizing the cooler was expected, and the case design, but was not very honest, because if you took ANY radiator out of the PC and aimed a fan at it, it would perform better outside the confines of a case. The temps on mine are always under 50c, and have never hit 60c in any testing. I saw the GPU get to 57c when playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for about an hour. Overall, I'm impressed and whatever issues people see in that video, I'm not experiencing that with this case or build. Whatever bios or software changes have been made since that review have fixed whatever issues Gamers Nexus complained about.

*Edit* The price of this PC has been raised to $7999, but it sometimes on sale for slightly less as mentioned above. Full transparency, I paid $3789 before tax and shipping.

**Edit #2 Sept. 2026* People are now buying the 45L with the 5090 to shuck it and sell the video card on Ebay. Sheesh.

***Edit #3! Oct. 2026 - Prices have gone through the damn roof. My same PC is now selling for 10k.
