Happy New Year, Decade and Semester

We are off and running with a new semester. We've had lots of traffic and the waiting list was a little long yesterday. Things should get better as the week wears on if you still need to come in and see an adviser. We've also found that coming earlier in the morning usually means shorter waits then coming at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

Chief Advisers can also answer many questions. You can check their office door for their posted hours. If you aren't sure where their office is, or who they are you can find a list of Chief Advisers by major and their office location on the Chief Adviser list which can be picked up in our office.

Have a Safe Break

Congrats to our December Graduates. We hope everyone has a safe holiday break. The Advising Center is open, seeing students and taking phone calls from 12/21-23/2009. The University is closed from 12/24/2009/-1/4/2010. You may leave a message for the Advising Center or an Advisor at 402-472-4190, we will respond to those messages beginning 1/4/2010.

Hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving. Priority registration is completed, if you have not registered for next semester you should see your adviser ASAP. You may come to the Advising Center or see your Chief Academic Adviser. Last day to Withdraw

Another deadline is upon us! Friday the 13th is the last day to withdraw from classes for the fall term.

Withdrawing can impact whether you are full-time or part-time. Make sure to visit with an adviser to discuss how a withdrawal might impact you.

Pass/No Pass Deadline Approaching

The deadline to change grading options (from a grade to Pass/No Pass or the reverse) is Friday October 16. This change can be accomplished on WAM! for courses which allow students to choose their grade option.

To earn a Pass students must earn a grade of C or higher. A C-minus or below will result in a No Pass.

If you are considering changing grade options in a course we encourage you to visit with your instructor and your adviser. If you wish to speak with an adviser in the Advising Center you can call 472-4190 to make an appointment.

December Graduation is Coming

It seems like it would be a ways off, but December Graduation will be here soon.
Students planning to graduate in December must complete an Application for
Degree form and pay a $25 fee in check or cash to Graduation Services, 109
Canfield Admin. Bldg., no later than Friday, Sept. 25.

Mid Semester Check

Lots of action in the evenings this week. The Office of Undergraduate Studies is hosting Mid Semester Check in the City Union. There will be two sessions each evening, with one running from 6 - 7:30 p.m. and another running from 7 - 8:30 p.m. First year and entering transfer students are welcome to attend.

This is a great program - stop in at one of the sessions on preparing for professional school or at the Major Fair on the 22nd and say hi to our advisors!

Appointments & East Campus Hours

The semester is well underway. We are moving to scheduling appointments. Students can call 472-4190 to make an appointment with any of the advisers in the Advising Center. Students can make same day appointements and one adviser is available for walk-ins each day from 9:30-11:30 and 1:30-4:00.
We have also opened a satellite office to assist Pre-Health and Pre-Law students on East Campus. Appointments will be available Thursday morning, 8:30-12:00 and walk in's will be available 1:00-3:00. To schedule an appointment with the Pre-Health Adviser who will be on East Campus, contact the A&S Advising Center at 472-4190. Please ask specifically for an East Campus appointment time to ensure that you will be meeting with an adviser while they are on East Campus. Students should look on the kiosk inside the East Campus Union and we are listed under Pre-Health/Pre-Law Advising/CASNR. We look forward to seeing you!

Add Deadline TODAY!

Today is the last day to add a course this term. The Advising Center is open on a walk-in basis to handle the questions students will have. At this point, anyone adding a course has missed a week of class, so advisers will question you hard about the decision to add. If you do add, make sure to contact the instructor ASAP (don't wait for the next class period) and ask for a syllabus. Don't ask if you missed anything, of course you did! Do ask for suggestions about how to review material you missed in the first week.

Almost through the first week-deadline coming

Well, the first week of classes is almost done. The Advising Center has been busy seeing students on a walk-in basis. The waits have been worst just before and after lunch - up to 1/2 hour, but most of the time students have only had to wait a 5-15 minutes.

Lots of great questions about making changes to schedules. The last day to add a course is Monday August 31. Of course, we don't encourage adding courses when the first week has been missed, so please come see an adviser if you are thinking about it! Monday is also the last day to drop a course with a full refund.

Many seniors have come in to double check progress towards graduation. Remember that you can access your Degree Audit (DARS) under the Registration title on WAM! Running a new audit and reviewing it before coming in can make the meetings go more quickly.

Fall semester is coming

We're furiously preparing for the fall term - finishing up late NSE and preparing for the Chief Adviser retreat. We'll be sending invites out to all the Chief Advisers. We've got a great new on-line training/information source for advisers and we're going to be discussing what the Chief Advisers would like to see from a retreat in the spring.
