.fullpost { display: inline; }

Before we jump into the tutorial to unlock iPhone 4 I want to start by explain what unlocking actually is. Unlocking is the removal of SIM restrictions on your iPhone so that you can use any carrier you want. This is what most people want to be able to do as it can save them a great deal of money on their monthly bills. It also means that you can continue to use the service provider that you are currently using. With that out of the way, let’s move on to this step by step Unlock iPhone 4 tutorial.Ultrasn0w is a very popular application for unlocking iPhones and it has been updated so that you can now unlock iPhone 4. This is great news and it means that you can now use your iPhone with any carrier you choose. The latest version of ultrasn0w has the support for the carrier unlock for iPhone 4 with a baseband 01,59.00 as well as 3G and 3GS models on baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04.The first thing that any iPhone 4 user is going to have to do is jailbreak their iPhone. There are a number of ways taht you can do this. Once you have jailbroken your iPhone you can follow the step by step tutorial below.

Step 1: The first step to unlock iPhone 4 is to launch the Cydia application on your iPhone. Once the application opens you will then need to hit the search button and type in ultrasn0w. When this has been found you should hit install so that ultrasn0w can be installed on your device.

If ultrasn0w doesn’t show up when you type it into the search button you will need to follow the remainder of the steps in this tutorial. If you were lucky enough for it to show up you are almost finished and all you have to do is turn off your iPhone, turn it back on and hey presto you have been able to unlock iPhone 4.

Step 2:
When Cydia has launched you need to hit the manage button and then select sources. You will then need to hit the edit button and then the add button.

Step 3:
In the box that appears where you are asked to enter Cydia/APT URL you will need to type in http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and then click the add source button. Cydia will then verify the URL that you have typed and then register the repository URL. When this has finished all you have to do is hit the return to Cydia to continue with the unlocking process.

Step 4: You should now have the new URL registered so all you have to do is hit the done button. You will now be able to find the ultrasn0w application and this will automatically unlock iPhone 4. The next step in this process is to turn off your device.

Step 5: Turn back on your device and the ultrasn0w application will now begin the unlock iPhone 4 process. You will now be able to use your iPhone 4 with any carrier you choose.

Sony Ericsson Secret Codes

3001#12345#* and tap Call. Enter Field Mode.
Field mode reveals many of the inner settings of your iPhone, specifically up-to- date network and cell information.

*#06# Displays your IMEI. No need to tap Call.
IMEI is the unique identifier for your cell phone hardware. Together with your SIM information it identifies you to the provider network.

*777# and tap Call. Account balance for prepaid iPhone.

*225# and tap Call. Bill Balance. (Postpaid only)

*646# and tap Call. Check minutes. (Postpaid only)
These three are pretty self explanatory.
*#21# and tap Call. Setting interrogation for call forwards.
Discover the settings for your call forwarding. You’ll see whether you have voice, data, fax, sms, sync, async, packet access, and pad access call forwarding enabled or disabled.
*#30# and tap Call. Calling line presentation check.
This displays whether you have enabled or disabled the presentation of the calling line, presumably the number of the party placing the call.
*#76# and tap Call. Check whether the connected line presentation is enabled or not.
State whether the connected line presentation is enabled or disabled. Presumably similar to the calling line presentation.
*#43# and tap Call. Determine if call waiting is enabled.
Displays call waiting status for voice, data, fax, sms, sync data, async data, packet access and pad access. Each item is either enabled or disabled.
*#61# and tap Call. Check the number for unanswered calls.
Show the number for voice call forwarding when a call is unanswered. Also show the options for data, fax, sms, sync, async, packet access and pad access.
*#62# and tap Call. Check the number for call forwarding if no service is available.
Just like the previous, except for no-service rather than no-answer situations.
*#67# and tap Call. Check the number for call forwarding when the iPhone is busy.
And again, but for when the iPhone is busy.
*#33# and tap Call. Check for call control bars.
Check all the usual suspects (voice, data, fax, sms, etc) to see whether barring is enabled or disabled for outgoing.

For the convenience of kernel hackers like @comex and @i0n1c, we have a new redsn0w 0.9.8b3 that supports a TETHERED jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 on all devices that have 4.3.4 except the iPad2. The vast majority of people will want to stay back at 4.3.3 because that’s where the untethered jailbreak is! There are no new features in 4.3.4 — only fixes for jailbreak exploits.

Also, this is a good time to remind everyone (since we’re still seeing confusion about this): iPad2 owners with a baseband (3G or CDMA) cannot currently use saved blobs to go back to 4.3.3 once the signing window is closed. This is unlike every other device, so don’t be confused! iPad2 owners with basebands should stay away from all updates to maintain the jailbreak!

Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 supports the following iOS 4.3.4 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)

Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 supports only a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.

So Dev team has advised users to avoid upgrading to iOS 4.3.4 if they want a untethered jailbreak and take a backup of SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella for iOS 4.3.3 so that one can downgrade their iOS device if required. Apple still seems to be signing iOS 4.3.3 firmware file at the time of writing this post.

You can download Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 for Windows using this link and Mac using this link.

As always, let us know how it goes.

[via Dev Team’s blog]

Apple Fixes Untethered Exploit In iOS 4.3.4; So Don’t Expect Untethered iOS 4.3.4 Jailbreak To Be Released Anytime Soon

In a series of tweets he has revealed that Apple has also fixed the untether exploit in iOS 4.3.4:

Don't expect a iOS 4.3.4 untether anytime soon.

In a way it is nice to see that Apple instead of merely fixing vulns add more mitigation checks. But for jailbreakers this suxx.

The dynamic linker performs additional checks on the mach-o header to stop a class of attacks against the dynamic linker.

This is how Apple broke your hearts: ADD.W R3, R11, #0xFFFFFFFF - CMP R3, #9 - BHI get_out_of_here

It checks the demux_count in ndrv_setspec

Actually no. That code is the code that fixes the untether exploit.

Apple has also fixed the security vulnerability used by Comex in JailbreakMe 3.0 to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

So the only option you have if you want to enjoy an untethered jailbreak would be to avoid upgrading to iOS 4.3.4 and ensure that you have taken a backup of the SHSH blobs via Cydia or using TinyUmbrella for iOS 4.3.3, so you can downgrade to an older jailbreakable iOS version if required.

Apple has again upped the ante in its cat and mouse game against the jailbreaking community. It has already made it difficult if not impossible to unlock iPhone on the latest basebands and with iOS 4.3.4 update it looks like it is also targeting jailbreaking.

Sometimes we wonder whether Apple would have taken a different stance if jailbreaking was not used for illegal activities such as piracy of apps. It was good to see Comex requesting jailbreakers using JailbreakMe 3.0 - "Please don't use this for piracy". The jailbreaking community probably needs to do more to prevent it altogether to get rid of the stigma of piracy associated with jailbreaking.

What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

[via Twitter (Stefan Esser)]

BlackBerry Secret Codes

Earlier, you had to point Redsn0w to iOS 4.3.4/iOS 4.2.9 firmware files as a workaround.

Dev team has provided the following information on their blog:

Update #7b: About 12 hours after we released redsn0w 0.9.8b7 with some improvements for iOS5b6, Apple went and released iOS5b7 (what are the odds of that?!?). Even though that redsn0w could still jailbreak iOS5b7, you needed to point it at the iOS5b6 IPSW to do so. Today’s redsn0w 0.9.8b7b lets you point redsn0w directly at the iOS5b7 IPSW instead.

Redsn0w 0.9.8b7b supports the following iOS 5 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)

Redsn0w 0.9.8b7b supports only a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.

It is meant for developers of jailbreak apps and tweaks so that they can test and debug their software on iOS 5 beta.

You can download Redsn0w 0.9.8b7b for Windows using this link and Mac using this link.

As always, let us know how it goes.

[via Dev Team’s blog]

Sn0wbreeze 2.8 Beta 7 To Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 7 For iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch Released

In case of iPhone, it also preserves the baseband from getting upgraded so that it can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w.

According to the release notes, Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 7 includes the following features:

Now jailbreaks iOS 5 beta 7

Still has ability to Hacktivate.

Still removes UDID developer check/Beta Timer.

Still preserves the baseband (as always).

Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 7 supports the following iOS 5 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)

iPhone 4 (CDMA)

Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 6 still cannot jailbreak iPad 2. It however supports an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), while it supports only a tethered jailbreak for the remaining iOS 5 devices mentioned above, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.

You can download Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 7 for Windows using this link.

As always, let us know how it goes.

[via Twitter (iH8sn0w)]

Redsn0w 0.9.9b1: Popular Jailbreak Tool Gets Many New Features And Improvements

fetches pieces of public IPSWs from Apple (once). Non-public IPSWs must be provided manually (once). It then caches those pieces for future use.

“Just boot” is a tethered boot. Uses whatever “Preferences” you’ve set for boot logo and kernel boot-args

“Pwned DFU” puts your device in a pwned DFU state for some of the iTunes stuff detailed below

“Recovery fix” gets past 1015 types of errors (when baseband portion of restore fails). Should work on iOS5 beta too

“Select IPSW” is for picking non-public IPSWs, or overriding auto-detection

“SHSH blobs” has a bunch of options…

“Fetch” - fetch current PARTIAL blobs on device. Should complete in under 10 or 15 seconds. Puts the set of PARTIAL of blobs on your computer as a plist. Checks if Cydia already has a full set for this device and build. If not, it submits this PARTIAL set and returns Cydia’s acknowledgement or rejection

“Verify” - cryptographically verifies existing blob files from either redsn0w, TinyUmbrella, or Cydia server. You can select a whole bunch of blobs to verify at once if you want (like the TinyUmbrella directory)

“Submit” - both verifies and submits one or more blob files to Cydia. This lets you copy your entire TinyUmbrella cache of blobs up to the Cydia server

“Query” - queries the Cydia server for all available FULL or PARTIAL blobs for a given set of ECIDs

“Stitch” - stitches either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a STOCK or CUSTOM IPSW

Stitching is NOT yet supported on iPhones! Need to work out the baseband part of the restore process.

FULL blobs stitched to a STOCK IPSW gives you a completely self-contained signed IPSW that iTunes will accept without any tricks (no need to go into pwned DFU mode, no need to start TinyUmbrella TSS server, no need to redirect to Cydia server for blobs)

PARTIAL blobs stitched to any IPSW requires you to go into pwned DFU mode before running iTunes. No need to start TU or use Cydia though.

Stitching either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a CUSTOM IPSW also requires a pwned DFU start before iTunes restores. No need to start TU or use Cydia though.

Will eventually support fetching the blobs directly from Cydia instead of a file on your computer

Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 supports the following iOS 5, iOS 4.3.5 and iOS 4.2.10 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)

Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 supports only a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.

You can download Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 for Windows using this link and Mac using this link.

As always, let us know how it goes.

[via Dev team's blog]

iPhone Dev Team Releases Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 For iOS 5 Beta 3 To Fix Sandbox Issue

They’ve provided the following information on their blog:

We’ve update redsn0w to account for the sandbox changes that affected App Store apps in 5.0b3 (and it now recognizes the IPSWs for all three betas so far). If you already jailbroke 5.0b3 using the previous redsn0w, you don’t need to re-jailbreak…just use this updated version to boot tethered. Start pointing redsn0w at the 5.0b3 IPSW starting with 5.0b3.

Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 supports the following iOS 5 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)

iPhone 4 (CDMA)

Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 supports only a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot. It is meant for developers of jailbreak apps and tweaks so that they can test and debug their software on iOS 5 beta.

If you plan to give it a shot then please don’t forget to backup your iOS device before you proceed to jailbreak it. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iOS device.

You can download Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 for Windows using this link and Mac using this link.

As always, let us know how it goes.

[via Dev Team’s blog]

Sn0wbreeze 2.8 Beta 4 To Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 3 For iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch Released

In case of iPhone, it also preserves the baseband from getting upgraded so that it can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w.

Sn0wbreeze 2.8b4 supports the following iOS 5 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPhone 4 (CDMA)

Sn0wbreeze 2.8b4 currently supports an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), while it supports only a tethered jailbreak for the remaining iOS 5 devices mentioned above, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.

iH8sn0w has stated that he hasn’t seen the sandboxing issues after jailbreaking the iOS device using Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 4, which were observed with the initial version of Redsn0w. iPhone Dev Team released a new version of Redsn0w to fix the sandboxing issue earlier today.

You can download Sn0wbreeze 2.8b4 for Windows using this link.

As always, let us know how it goes.

[via Twitter (iH8sn0w)]

JailbreakMe 3.0: Comex Releases Fix For Camera Connection Kit Issue And Verizon iPhone Stuck At Apple Logo Issue

Saurik has tweeted:

So, @comex made some fixes to the kernel patches for JailbreakMe, and we are pushing them as an "Essential Upgrade"... I hope this works! :(

To be clear: do /not/ go back to jailbreakme.com and "redo" the jailbreak; instead, just open Cydia, and accept the new "Essential Upgrade".

Users whose Verizon iPhone is stuck at the Apple logo after using JailbreakMe 3.0 have two options to fix the issue:

Hold down the home and power buttons until you see "Connect to iTunes", then use iTunes to restore to the latest firmware. This will lose data stored on the phone.

Apply a quasi-experimental fix using redsn0w.

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)
