iPhone Dev Team has released Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 for iOS 4.3.4 to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 4.3.4 to fix the security vulnerability that Comex had used in JailbreakMe 3.0, which is one of the easiest solutions to jailbreak an iOS device.

Dev team has provided the following information on their blog:

For the convenience of kernel hackers like @comex and @i0n1c, we have a new redsn0w 0.9.8b3 that supports a TETHERED jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 on all devices that have 4.3.4 except the iPad2. The vast majority of people will want to stay back at 4.3.3 because that’s where the untethered jailbreak is! There are no new features in 4.3.4 — only fixes for jailbreak exploits.
Also, this is a good time to remind everyone (since we’re still seeing confusion about this): iPad2 owners with a baseband (3G or CDMA) cannot currently use saved blobs to go back to 4.3.3 once the signing window is closed. Apple Fixes Untethered Exploit In iOS 4.3.4; So Don’t Expect Untethered iOS 4.3.4 Jailbreak To Be Released Anytime Soon

iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 for iOS 4.3.4 to jailbreak iPhone, iPadand iPod Touch.

But it supports only a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.

iPhone hacking expert Stefan Esser who goes by the Twitter handle i0n1c, credited for developing the untethered jailbreak used in tools like Redsn0w, PwnageTool and Sn0wbreeze for iOS 4.3.1, iOS 4.3.2 and iOS 4.3.3 has tweeted that it may not be possible to release an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 anytime soon.

In a series of tweets he has revealed that Apple has also fixed the untether exploit in iOS 4.3.4:

Don't expect a iOS 4.3.4 untether anytime soon.
In a way it is nice to see that Apple instead of merely fixing vulns add more mitigation checks. But for jailbreakers this suxx.
The dynamic linker performs additional checks on the mach-o header to stop a class of attacks against the dynamic linker.

Actually no. That code is the code that fixes the untether exploit.

Apple has also fixed the security vulnerability used by Comex in JailbreakMe 3.0 to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

So the only option you have if you want to enjoy an untethered jailbreak would be to avoid upgrading to iOS 4.3.4 and ensure that you have taken a backup of the SHSH blobs via Cydia or using TinyUmbrella for iOS 4.3.3, so you can downgrade to an older jailbreakable iOS version if required.

Apple has again upped the ante in its cat and mouse game against the jailbreaking community. It has already made it difficult if not impossible to unlock iPhone on the latest basebands and with iOS 4.3.4 update it looks like it is also targeting jailbreaking.

Sometimes we wonder whether Apple would have taken a different stance if jailbreaking was not used for illegal activities such as piracy of apps. It was good to see Comex requesting jailbreakers using JailbreakMe 3.0 - "Please don't use this for piracy". The jailbreaking community probably needs to do more to prevent it altogether to get rid of the stigma of piracy associated with jailbreaking.

We’ve released redsn0w 0.9.8b6 to jailbreak iOS5 beta6 (point it directly at the beta6 IPSW).

Two important notes about this version:

(1) Please let your device boot normally to IOS5b6 and do a clean shutdown (slide to power off) before jailbreaking.

(2) Boot logos have intentionally been disabled for now, so you’ll see a black screen on tethered boots (you can re-enable logos or verbose boot with command-line options if you really want them back).

iPhone Dev Team has released Redsn0w 0.9.8b7b for iOS 5 beta 6 to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Apple seeded iOS 5 beta 7 to developers of iOS Dev program earlier in the week.

iPhone Dev team had released Redsn0w 0.9.8b7 for the new iOS 5 beta 6 firmware file that Apple had seeded only for iPad 1, without changing the version number (in case you are wondering why Redsn0w 0.9.8b7b and not Redsn0w 0.9.8b7).

Dev team had also added support for iOS 4.3.5 and iOS 4.2.10 in Redsn0w 0.9.7. Earlier, you had to point Redsn0w to iOS 4.3.4/iOS 4.2.9 firmware files as a workaround.

Update #7b: About 12 hours after we released redsn0w 0.9.8b7 with some improvements for iOS5b6, Apple went and released iOS5b7 (what are the odds of that?!?). Even though that redsn0w could still jailbreak iOS5b7, you needed to point it at the iOS5b6 IPSW to do so. Today’s redsn0w 0.9.8b7b lets you point redsn0w directly at the iOS5b7 IPSW instead.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b1: Popular Jailbreak Tool Gets Many New Features And Improvements

Couple of days back, MuscleNerd, member of the iPhone Dev team had revealed that he plans to release a major update for Redsn0w - their popular jailbreaking tool.

As promised, he has released a new version of Redsn0w - Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 with a number of new features.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 includes the following new features:

uses DFU mode to try to automatically determine which device and FW you have
fetches pieces of public IPSWs from Apple (once). Non-public IPSWs must be provided manually (once). It then caches those pieces for future use.
“Just boot” is a tethered boot. Uses whatever “Preferences” you’ve set for boot logo and kernel boot-args
“Pwned DFU” puts your device in a pwned DFU state for some of the iTunes stuff detailed below
“Recovery fix” gets past 1015 types of errors (when baseband portion of restore fails). Should work on iOS5 beta too
“Select IPSW” is for picking non-public IPSWs, or overriding auto-detection
“SHSH blobs” has a bunch of options…
“Fetch” - fetch current PARTIAL blobs on device. Should complete in under 10 or 15 seconds. Puts the set of PARTIAL of blobs on your computer as a plist. Checks if Cydia already has a full set for this device and build. If not, it submits this PARTIAL set and returns Cydia’s acknowledgement or rejection
“Verify” - cryptographically verifies existing blob files from either redsn0w, TinyUmbrella, or Cydia server. You can select a whole bunch of blobs to verify at once if you want (like the TinyUmbrella directory)
“Submit” - both verifies and submits one or more blob files to Cydia. This lets you copy your entire TinyUmbrella cache of blobs up to the Cydia server
“Query” - queries the Cydia server for all available FULL or PARTIAL blobs for a given set of ECIDs
“Stitch” - stitches either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a STOCK or CUSTOM IPSW

Stitching is NOT yet supported on iPhones! Need to work out the baseband part of the restore process.
FULL blobs stitched to a STOCK IPSW gives you a completely self-contained signed IPSW that iTunes will accept without any tricks (no need to go into pwned DFU mode, no need to start TinyUmbrella TSS server, no need to redirect to Cydia server for blobs)
PARTIAL blobs stitched to any IPSW requires you to go into pwned DFU mode before running iTunes. No need to start TU or use Cydia though.
Stitching either FULL or PARTIAL blobs to a CUSTOM IPSW also requires a pwned DFU start before iTunes restores. No need to start TU or use Cydia though.
Will eventually support fetching the blobs directly from Cydia instead of a file on your computer

iPhone Dev Team Releases Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 For iOS 5 Beta 3 To Fix Sandbox Issue

Yesterday, we reported that it is possible to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3 that was seeded to developers using Redsn0w 0.9.8b1.

The trick is to point Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 to iOS 5 beta 1 firmware file to jailbreak your iOS device on iOS 5 beta 3.

However, we advised you to proceed with caution as we were hearing reports that App Store apps do not work after jailbreaking iOS 5 beta 3.

It wasn’t clear if this is due to some anti-jailbreaking measure introduced by Apple in the latest iOS 5 beta.

The good news is that iPhone Dev team has released Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 to fix the sandbox issue. They’ve provided the following information on their blog:

We’ve update redsn0w to account for the sandbox changes that affected App Store apps in 5.0b3 (and it now recognizes the IPSWs for all three betas so far). If you already jailbroke 5.0b3 using the previous redsn0w, you don’t need to re-jailbreak…just use this updated version to boot tethered. Start pointing redsn0w at the 5.0b3 IPSW starting with 5.0b3.

JailbreakMe 3.0: Comex Releases Fix For Camera Connection Kit Issue And Verizon iPhone Stuck At Apple Logo Issue

Comex has released a fix for the Camera connection kit issue for iPad users and to also address the bug that causes Verizon iPhones to get stuck at the Apple logo.

The fix for the camera connection kit issue is available via Cydia, while Comex has provided couple of options to address the bug reported by Verizon iPhone users.

The fix for the camera connection issue is available as an ‘Essential Upgrade’ in Cydia. Saurik has tweeted:

So, @comex made some fixes to the kernel patches for JailbreakMe, and we are pushing them as an "Essential Upgrade"... I hope this works! :(
To be clear: do /not/ go back to jailbreakme.com and "redo" the jailbreak; instead, just open Cydia, and accept the new "Essential Upgrade".

Users whose Verizon iPhone is stuck at the Apple logo after using JailbreakMe 3.0 have two options to fix the issue:

Hold down the home and power buttons until you see "Connect to iTunes", then use iTunes to restore to the latest firmware. This will lose data stored on the phone.
Apply a quasi-experimental fix using redsn0w. Download:
- redsn0w 0.9.6rc19: Windows / Mac (do not use an earlier version)
- Fix bundle, depending on firmware version: 4.2.6 / 4.2.7 / 4.2.8
- IPSW for your firmware version, if you don't have it: 4.2.6 / 4.2.7 / 4.2.8
Open Redsn0w, select your IPSW, choose "Install custom bundle", and select the fix bundle. Then follow the directions. If it works correctly, after installation your phone will boot normally.

Comex had previously also fixed the ‘Cydia Disappears’ issue.

biteSMS is one of the popular alternatives for Messages app as it includes number of features like smileys, Quick Reply, Quick Compose, scheduled SMS, delivery reports, signatures etc. that are not available in the native iOS app.

But it had some compatibility issues with JailbreakMe 3.0 that was released by Comex last week to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Users complained that their jailbroken iPhone would go into an infinite boot loop when they used the Quick Reply feature.

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 4.3.4 to fix the security vulnerability that Comex had used in JailbreakMe 3.0, which is one of the easiest solutions to jailbreak an iOS device.

Dev team has provided the following information on their blog:

For the convenience of kernel hackers like @comex and @i0n1c, we have a new redsn0w 0.9.8b3 that supports a TETHERED jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 on all devices that have 4.3.4 except the iPad2. The vast majority of people will want to stay back at 4.3.3 because that’s where the untethered jailbreak is! There are no new features in 4.3.4 — only fixes for jailbreak exploits.
Also, this is a good time to remind everyone (since we’re still seeing confusion about this): iPad2 owners with a baseband (3G or CDMA) cannot currently use saved blobs to go back to 4.3.3 once the signing window is closed. Apple Fixes Untethered Exploit In iOS 4.3.4; So Don’t Expect Untethered iOS 4.3.4 Jailbreak To Be Released Anytime Soon

iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.8b3 for iOS 4.3.4 to jailbreak iPhone, iPadand iPod Touch.

But it supports only a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot.
