Today I am delighted to share with you my conversation with Sonya on the principles and concept of the Charlotte Mason method.  I have a feeling that some of what we discuss will resonate with many home educating families and serve as a really valuable resource for many who are newly living without school.   It was wonderful to get to know Sonya, and I cheerfully look forward to connecting with her sometime again!

So inspired in fact that I felt that it deserved an oral review. I recorded the following Podcast to offer my verbalized perspective on the sentiments provided in the article.

Atmosphere of education is evolving and the compulsory, institutionalized approach is dying...clawing at the old walls of it's own box... trying to stay alive and spitting venom out at anyone who threatens it's existence.   This is an example of such venom.

The good news is, the venom is like kitten spittle to us independent thinkers and educators.  It's laughable really and does us no harm.  So it may seem like a total waste of time to spend any energy focusing on this or statements like it.  However, it's not about this one particular piece or any one particular piece.  I'm using it as an example because... well because it's just too easy and when you read it you'll see why... but the point is really deeper and more important than what this lady thinks.   The point is that this is all too familiar a statement against home education and there is a steady rise in the frequency of these sort of statements.  What's the problem?

Well, many of these statements are being promulgated in court rooms where representatives and senators are calling for stricter home education regulation and even the abolition of home education all together.  That is worthy of our attention folks.  Because I can urge you all to refuse to comply with invasive regulation, but the reality is that it is not easy to live underground and it will come down to survival of the fittest.   Many will relent and shuffle their kids off to school at gunpoint causing the evolution of education to come to a screeching halt and allowing this monster to continue to ignite global intellectual peril.

Home education, alternative education and independent learning is a movement gaining momentum and we are growing in numbers.  Let us not become comfortable or complacent.  Let us not ignore this kitten spittle and treat it as an "isolated sentiment".   Let us be diligent about correcting fallacies and engaging in conversations that matter.

And more importantly than anything else, let us keep our kids out of school!
