Carrie Ann Inaba recently stopped at Access Hollywood Live where she shared her thoughts on the current rumors passing through the Internet. “Tebow would be great on our show,” Carrie Ann said, adding that she wants to be his partner. As for Stevie Wonder, she thinks he’d be “exciting” because they’ve never had a blind contestant on the show. If anything that sounds a tad dangerous, unless the judges will be lenient on lifts.

After Rob Kardashian’s success on the show, Kris and Bruce Jenner are also on the list of potential dancers. Carrie Ann thinks that they would be good choices because they are “cool people.”

Though she didn’t touch on Jack, Sherri or Melissa these candidates seem like a step backwards. Jack is currently in headlines due to Heather Lockler’s breakdown, but he hasn’t done much since his Melrose Place days (though he was quite the hunk in the early 90s, you know in that soap opera doctor way) and Melissa also is off the radar. Sherri is the only relevant star, but not at the caliber of last season.

ABC will announce the next cast of DWTS Tuesday on Good Morning America.

Up until the Essence Black women in Hollywood luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Jordin Sparks has not said much on the matter. Sources told PEOPLE that she locked herself in her hotel room and broke down for hours upon hearing the news. On Thursday she was more optimistic on the matter, sharing what a “gift” it was to work with Houston on the film.

Before taking stage Sparks told stories of working with Houston. “The first day she got [to the set] she’s scolding me, and I’m thinking this is the best day ever,” she said. “She went from being this unreachable supernova pop star to my costar, friend and someone who was like a mentor to me. It was a gift and an honor to play opposite Whitney Houston in the film.”

She added, “When you see Sparkle, you will be so happy to see the joy that is on her face. Everyday started with Whitney saying, ‘How are my babies doing? Are you guys good? God is good.’ It translates on the screen.”

Though Skylar’s been busy recording music with country writers and producers, she’s also studying to be a nurse in between sessions. It’s likely schools on hold while she chases her dream, but her caring attitude shine through. Skylar’s had a few rough moments, but she always has a smile on her face even during the hardest times.

It’s quite obvious that Skylar’s inspirations include the hottest female country artists, such as Miranda Lambert, but she also loves old school country. Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash are two of her biggest inspirations. Her love of music started at a young age with musical theater. As a child she even toured with national productions of “Annie” and “Les Miserables.”

When comparing the girls, Skylar definitely stands out and leaves an impression. Will you be voting for Skylar next week?

1. A loyal friend. During Hollywood Week Heejun Han and Philip became close friends as members of MIT. Neither have family in Las Vegas or Hollywood with them, but they are at each other’s side for support. No one will ever forget the joyful hug they shared after Heejun made it through.

2. A talented performer. Though we’ve only seen Phillip playing a guitar so far, he also knows how ot play bass, piano and drums.

3. A confident performer. Philip is only 20, but he’s been gigging since he turned 14. He’s completely comfortable in the artist he is and on stage. The only difference with American Idol and his normal gigs is that he use to perform with his sister or brother-in-law around Georgia.

4. A relaxed, chill guy. His influences include Dave Matthews Band and it’s basically a rule that you have to truly just enjoy life to listen to DMB. On the “Phillip Phillip’s Music” page he described his music pairing with his brother-in-law as, “just two guys doing what we do and have a blast doing it.”

5. Surprises! He also wrote on the Facebook account, “We don’t limit ourselves to certain genres.” No statement could be truer for Phillip so far on American Idol. Though he has a distinct style of playing, no song is left unturned!

So your friends are sci-fi geeks and they keep raving about this awesome show called Fringe. Except it’s confusing, right? There’s two of every character. Weird people show up each week with different abilities and you’re never sure exactly what’s happening from one episode to the next.

Well, we’re here to bring you up to speed on Fringe in bulletpoint form! Nothing’s going to replace watching the episodes – go out and get yourself some box sets – but we’ll hopefully gloss over four seasons of Fringe in about five minutes!

Why ‘Fringe’?

Fringe gets its name from the idea of ‘fringe science‘ – the study of areas that are traditionally paranormal, like telepathy, telekinesis, time travel among other things. You can see the types of themes that the show explores in the titles for the series.

The Fringe division in the show is a special task force set up to investigate these seemingly supernatural phenomenon. The Fringe division also exists in the parallel universe, but it’s better funded, quasi-militaristic and has closer ties to government. We’ll get to the alt-universe in a minute, don’t worry!

The characters and the people who play them

Okay, the above picture has all the main cast and characters. Left to right, here’s who they are:

• Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole): Astrid is Walter Bishop’s lab assistant. She’s frequently seen helping him with his experiments, and she’s incredibly fond of the man, despite the fact that he always gets her name wrong.
• Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick): Broyles runs the Fringe Division both in the original and alternate universes. He’s not so active these days, and his alt-version died trying to save Olivia Dunham in the last season.
• Walter Bishop (John Noble): Misguided scientist, Walter spend years in a mental institution after performing a series of unethical experiments. He loves nothing more than recreational drugs and has a sweet tooth. Oh, yeah, and after his young son died, he created a machine to cross over to an alternative universe and steal the alternative version of his son Peter. You heard me right. Sadly, when Walter crossed over, he set in motion the gradual ‘bleeding’ together of the two universes that threatens to destroy them all. Heavy.
• Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv): Dunham is an FBI agent who was assigned to the Fringe team. However, over the course of time, we discover that Olivia has ties to Walter Bishop – she was one of the Cortexephan children that Walter experimented on when they were younger. She is also romantically involved with Peter Bishop in the original timeline of the show, although her current Facebook status probably reads ‘It’s Complicated’.
• PeterBishop (Joshua Jackson): Peter is the son that Walter stole from the other universe, trigging the disintegration of two worlds. He was estranged from his father and spent some time as a con man before Dunham and Broyles engaged him to get Walter released. Their relationship became fonder over time, until Peter learned the truth about his kidnapping, after which he went missing. Peter was thought to be the key to a device which brought the two universes together. When he eventually triggered this device, Peter vanished from existence, creating an entirely new reality in which he never existed. Even hardcore Fringe fans get headaches around this point. Peter has somehow managed to return to existence, baffling everybody. We’re still not sure how or why.
• Nina Sharp (Blair Brown): The head of Massive Dynamic, Nina’s been an enigmatic figure over the years. We’re never entirely sure whether she’s working with or against the Fringe division. She seems to be aware of many of the phenomena that Olivia Dunham discovers and has sometimes got experience of performing secretive experiments through Massive Dynamic.
• Lincoln Lee (Seth Gabel): A rare character, we met the alternative universe version of Lincoln Lee before we met his Earth-1 equivalent. In the alt-universe, Lincoln is a member of Fringe, and quite a gung-ho character. In Earth-1, Lincoln is an FBI agent, but far more timid than his doppelganger. He only joins the Fringe division on Earth-1 in the fourth season, despite the character having been on the show since the Season 2 finale.

Parallel Universes and their effect:

At the heart of Fringe these days are the parallel universes. They’ve spawned a ton of jargon both on the show and in the fandom. For instance, there are two Olivia Dunhams: on Earth-1 (the original universe the show is set in), Olivia is usually quite serious and often very businesslike. On Earth-2, Olivia is a little looser and more sarcastic and she has red hair. The two characters have come to be known affectionately as Ourlivia and Fauxlivia.

Likewise, Walter Bishop is the Secretary of Defense in the alternative universe. He’s a far more shrewd character than our Walter, which earns him the nickname of Walternate.

Episode titles

Since the introduction of the parellel universes, Fringe adopted a series of different title screens. The silver titles meant the episode would be primarily in the original universe, while the red titles meant the episode was in the alt-verse. Orange titles – I think – are a blend of both universes. And in a special episode set in the 80s, the show had a special retro-themed title sequence.

The Observers

Ah, let’s not forget about the Observers! An intriguing mix of mysterious watchers meets Where’s Waldo. They operate above and beyond the events in each episode, often literally just observing events and ensuring that everything is progressing according to some pre-ordained plan. However, even when the Observers aren’t playing a prominent role in the episodes, there’s usually one to be spotted lurking in the background somewhere. Check out The Observer Files for proof.

Here’s what we know about Observers:

• They mostly observe events that the Fringe division are involved in.
• There are several Observers, and they interact both through speech and apparently telepathically.
• They’re all named after months of the year. The most prominent Observer is called September and we’re likely to find out more about him in the next episode.
• Observers don’t typically have direct contact with anyone, but we know that Walter Bishop has spoken with them in the past. One has appeared to Olivia, and Peter will be seen questionning September.
• They’ve been seen to have specialist, retro-styled technology that they use in their work.

Let’s take a quick trip to Canada to see what our favourite sexy supernatural succubus and her rag-tag collection of chums are up to in the next episode of Lost Girl. Titled Fae-nted Love (Seriously? Totally stretching the fae-related episode titles!), it looks like Bo’s going to get herself in a spot of trouble after a one-night stand goes wrong.

Here’s the official episode synopsis:

Kenzi and Trick must race to save Bo from the fallout of a steamy night gone awry before it binds the Succubus for a millennium.  In its wake, Bo poses very uncomfortable questions to Trick about her origins.

If that last sentence is anything to go by, we might finally get more information about where Bo came from. I think you’ll agree that any backstory or delving into Bo’s fae mythology is always welcome.

Fae-nted Love airs on March 4th, 2012.

A dedicated group of Fringe fans is trying to make history with an inspired Twitter campaign to draw attention to the show. Throughout its four amazing seasons, Fringe has been in constant danger of cancellation. Fox hasn’t made it particularly easy for the show, since it got moved to the traditional Friday night death slot during the last season. The move would have killed a lesser show, but not Fringe.

However, it’s still not a certainty that Fringe will survive for a fifth season. Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly recently mentioned that although he loves the show, it’s losing money for the network (due in part to the ridiculous Friday scheduling), and an unprofitable show will eventually have to be cancelled…

The hesitation in my voice is that it’s an expensive show. We lose a lot of money on the show. But with that rating on that night it’s almost impossible for us to make money on it. We’re not in the business of losing money. We need to figure out if there’s a [deal with studio Warner Bros. that] will make sense or will this be it.

I’ve been a Fringe fan since day one. I was never quite comfortable with the show’s X Files style ‘freak of the week’ storylines, but then the series started to take subtle risks and introduce strange new elements centered around the lead characters. When we discovered Walter Bishop’s disastrous discovery of the alternate Earth and his kidnapping of Peter, things got really intense and Fringe became the most complex and absorbing sci-fi show the world has seen.

Anyway, enter Fringenuity and sci-fi fan Annie aka @birdandbear. She and other Fringe fans across the globe – and possibly the alt-verse, who knows? – have grouped together for an ingenious hashtag campaign designed to get the show trending at airtime each week. The objective is to expose the show to other potential fans and hope that they’ll pick up on it and start watching. Using a combination of Twitter and GetGlue campaigns, here’s how Fringenuity is using social media to try and save the show:

Fringe has been the beneficiary of some very unique circumstances; the show needed support at a time when social media was really coming into its own, and for the first time ever, fans without Nielsen boxes had quantifiable ways to show that we’re watching too. Faced with ratings that would have been a show’s death knell a few years ago, Fox chose to use Fringe as a testing ground for a boatload of new data: namely DVR and other alternative viewing habits, and the growing influence of social buzz.

If you read the post I’ve just linked to, you’ll see that the group has successfully managed to get Fringe-related topics to trend on Twitter each week since the show returned. The campaign has very cleverly worked out the key to creating trending topics on Twitter: with some nifty organisation alongside carefully chosen hashtags, it’s possible to get Twitter’s attention for the briefest period of time! The post could very well be the blueprint for other niche TV shows that want to attract a wider audience.

Will it work? We’ll have to wait and see. A fifth season of Fringe would be a beautiful thing to behold, and to see a social media win on this level would be amazing. To keep up with the group and its activities, follow @Fringenuity on Twitter.

It’s official- Simon Cowell will add not one, but two hosts to the second season of The X Factor. Just yesterday producers suggested that he is considering the change because he wants to stand out against the competition. Today Simon addressed the issue to reporters at a press conference with co-judge L.A. Reid.

“What we’ve learned on the show is you have so much information you have to relay as one person that I think it’s almost impossible to have one person doing the hosting job,” he explained. “You have to give out so much information from phonelines to integration of the sponsors; they are like newscasters now, it’s a much bigger role.”

Simon thinks there’s a “fun” way to do it, having judges scattered throughout the studio. He adds, “I think you’ll see a very different chemistry with two people. I always wanted a boy and girl to host the show and I think that will happen now.”

Just because he wants two hosts, he doesn’t think that the judges necessarily have to have a hosting background. “It’s time for a change. We’ve been doing these shows for 11 years and you can’t keep doing the same thing,” he said. “I think we learned a lesson last year that the traditional host role on a show like this has to change into something else.”

X Factor auditions start March 14 in Kansas City. With auditions right around the corner, we can expect major announcements in the upcoming weeks.
