We have been cable free for almost 2 months abd it has been a rewarding experience for our family.\I have not been mush of a TV watcher and cant say I miss the sounds of Hannah Montana or other Disney Drivel in my home. We have been getting movies from nearby library and I am compiling a list fo good movies to possible watch with my tween/teen daughter.

I while ago a caught Pretty in Pink on TV and was surprised how “adult” and angry it was- seems very out of synch with kids I know. I think the may have been reflective of the 80’s but I just don’t see my daughter and her friends that way at all.

I am looking for for good movies for teens that explore teen angst or celebrate teen discovery and just don’t exploit them.

List of Good Teen Movies

Here is list I have started:

Dead Poet’s Society
Hoosiers
Diary of Anne Frank ( Original )
Splendor in the Grass ( this is bit heavy but holds up)
Mask ( bit dated but still makes me cry)
Clueless
Election
Friday Night Lights
To Sir, With Love ( I LOVED this movie!)

Any Suggestions??

At last I feel quasi “safe” in our new house. Things are far from over and still rug continues to be pulled out from under us but working at keeping things sane and stable for my kids who are caught in the middle of this.
Thank God for the power of women that’s all I will say!

We have restructured the co-op to be MORE structured and yes- even more like school. The older kids seem to want it and once a week not such a bad things for younger kids. We have divided it up into 3 sections- math/english and “special projects”

I am quite excited about the possibilities for this. Yes is is school-y and I have all but given up my unschooling roots but that’s okay. We all evolve and this is where we are now.
I am single mom and this is my new reality and I am embracing it.
I am in charge of Math for the kids this month and coming up with worksheets and lessons plans for both younger kids and older kids to be followed by “fun” math activities.

Revising and taking a look at some of my online my math resources and printables.
We do Singapore math daily and I think I will start out with assessing kids and seeing where they are at. Singapore Math does have printable sheets to do math placement tests and assessments.

I should be an expert at moving by now I have moved so many times!
I am in middle of moving. Fist time I will have lived on my own in about 10 years and starting new life as single mom. Yikes!
There are several single mom homeschoolers in our groups so look to them for guidance. I just cant believe how supportive they have all been !

I must be in denial because I am moving in about 3 weeks and aside from a few boxes in family room you really wouldn’t know it!
I am not sure how it snuck up on me so fast.
Caught break today as the new landlord let me supply paint and their painters will paint kids bedrooms colour they choose. E. chose light lilac and B. a light celery green.
I am getting anxious even typing this as it is time not spent packing so better dash off. Tho I have become an expert on NOT packing :-)
