Episode 7 - Dumb and Dumber, Dumb and Dumber To
Apologies for the delay! We've been busy, and some new things are happening with Unseen Footage in the New Year, so we're getting ready for that! In any case, this deluxe episode is here for your enjoyment. We discuss Dumb and Dumber, a favorite among 90s kids, and its sequel, that got released just last month, to not-surprisingly lackluster reviews. Everyone knew it was going to be bad, so let's focus on the good: Jim Carrey's amazing acting ability, Jeff Daniels' making the most of it, some of the most beloved bits and sight gags that stand the test of time, and unintentionally bad characterization that leads to some awesome moments. For the Christmas season, enjoy Lloyd Christmas, and his friend Harry, as they try to make it through two movies alive. Beware the Sea Bass!

Happy Halloween! To celebrate, Claire and David retread some familiar ground with director Tim Burton, and his other movie with Michael Keaton: 1988's BEETLEJUICE! What follows is a discussion of the film's overall flaws and shortcomings. Claire wants to give the whole movie an extreme makeover, but David argues for the approach taken, warning about worse things that could have happened, both lighter and darker. Does the movie work on its own, or is it just full of good ideas? Who exactly are we supposed to root for in the proceedings? And find out what Claire would do given eternity in this month's Unseen Footage!

1991's Kathryn Bigelow-directed action surfer flick is a trip, to say the least. No one is quite sure how to describe it or explain it, but the ride is enjoyable nonetheless. Claire and David attempt to put everything into words as they talk about the performances of Swayze, Reeves, Petty, and Busey, as they debate the validity of the iconic skydiving scene, Claire puts forward a thesis on action movies, and David puts forth a thesis on bromances. It's September's episode where we discuss either the greatest surfer bank robbery movie ever made, or the greatest surfer bank robbery movie you've never seen, because this is Unseen Footage!

Episode 4 - Labyrinth
1986's Jim Henson/George Lucas/Terry Jones/Brian Froud/David Bowie collaboration was initially a flop, and was confusing in tone compared to the '82 Dark Crystal. In subsequent years, especially that weird time called the early 90s, it became somewhat of a cult classic in the vein of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Claire and David dive straight into the problems of "road movies", journeys that teach lessons, and the characterizations of this movie specifically. No one knows exactly how we ended up with Labyrinth, but Jim Henson's puppet wizardry is absolutely fantastic.

Episode 3 - Clueless
1995's cult comedy adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma on its surface may seem like a simple teen coming-of-age chick flick, with a socially conscious valley girl at its center. But that's just the surface! Claire and David go into the sharp and witty dialogue, the satirical send-up, and the deceptively complex characters. They also love how beautifully (and permanently) the movie encapsulates the 90s. For those questioning the portrayal of women in the media today, as well as fans of comedy in general, Clueless is a marvelous intersection.

Episode 2- Batman
1989's Batman can be argued as the movie that kickstarted the entire comic movie franchise into high gear. Only Superman had made a successful leap to the big screen, and everything else about every other superhero was rather campy and trite. Tim Burton and Michael Keaton set out to change all that, with a darker and grittier adaptation of the dark knight, years before Christopher Nolan ever would. And Burton still manages to balance comedic set pieces with brilliant character nuance. Join Claire and David as they present their respective theses on Batman as a character, as well as how this movie stands up to the rest of the canon.

Episode 1 - Hook
1991's Hook may be one of the divisive entries we're likely to do on Unseen Footage, and it's our debut episode! It's the movie that started led to the conception of the show, and one of David's favorite movies of all time. People are firmly divided over the film's quality, over generational lines, over critical lines, and over Peter Pan mythos lines. But we're here to talk about both its merits and its shortcomings, so joins us won't you? For our first episode!
