Pr.Naceur Ben Mesbah is really unique in his way of teaching .I still remember the different techniques he used ; so as to make of his class a resounding success.I would like to thank him for the exceptionally important he played in helping us acquire proficiency in pronunciation. We got a lot from him and he has never ceased encouraging us to speak English the way British people do.

Thanks for your comment! I love feeling helpful.

Honestly, as a business decision, I wouldn't recommend paperbacks. They're the miserable relics of an era that made artists into the slaves of manufacturers.

That said...man, I still gotta have 'em. And all my other writers feel the same way. It just doesn't feel <em>real</em> until there's a paperback.

We use CreateSpace to print and distribute our books. They make the books available through the major distributors (I think Ingram is the main one), so you could walk into a bookstore, request a copy of any of my books, and the friendly clerk would have no trouble ordering it.

In nearly two years, we've probably made about twenty bucks off those sorts of orders. We've probably made a couple hundred dollars on paperback sales overall, but not enough to turn a profit on our manufacturing costs.

And we've come to terms with that. We buy the paperbacks as mementos and promotional giveaways. But we make all our money off digital sales.

Do with that what you will. And don't be surprised when this comment shows up as its own blog post in a week or two. Sometimes I'm sneaky like that.

Almost all words which have a strong and weak form belong to a category that may be called function words -words that do not a dictionary meaning in the way that we normally expect nouns , verbs ,adjectives and adverbs to have .These functions words are words such as auxialiary verbs ,prepositions ,conjunctions ,etc...,all of which are in certain circumstances pronounced in their strong forms but which are more frequently pronounced in their weak forms.

I have been reading your blog for a while, and am considering self-publishing myself.

The one question I have is this: Is it necessary to have a paperback edition of your book available? I know a lot of people prefer a paperback (myself included)--but how much do you actually make on paperbacks in comparison to ebooks?

Also, do you use a distribution service? (And how does that effect sales?) Or are your paperbacks Amazon-only?

Sorry, that was more than one question.

Thanks for the informational blog! I really enjoy it.

I know exactly how you feel, Aaron. I almost got broken by those horrible gatekeepers, literary agents, and their rejections. One even yelled at me at a writers conference in Los Angeles because I was unlucky enough to be up first and she had gotten lost in traffic driving up from San Diego. Several months later and numerous rejection on my witches fantasy series, I was practically crying at my computer and thinking of stopping, but I love the writing too much. I then decided to take control of my own destiny and not let the agents or publishers dictate to me. I was going to do things on my own terms and F them. The forget that they need us and thanks to the internet, we no longer need them. It's the fans who count and we now have access to them. Readers and writers is what it's all about. Good luck on your books!

Thanks, Andi! I hope you love them all.

Y'know, your review of the first book was hugely inspirational to me. That was one of the first times I got such positive feedback from a stranger, and it gave me the confidence to stick with The Plan and see what I could accomplish in self-publishing.

Thank you. I cannot possibly say it enough.

OMG I can't believe it is up to 4! You know I loved the first. You sent the second, but I just bought 2, 3, and 4 Kindle versions so that I can read them on my iPad - cannot wait to catch up on them!

Something I've done in the past is purchased (or had Copy Central crop) paper exactly sized to the volume, then send it through my printer set for, say, B5 paper. Works well.

It's also possible to send the draft through the laser printer with the crop marks, but that just doesn't have the same sort of feel to it.

Getting a bound proof, even if perfect bound, is pretty cool.

Wonderful information! Thank you for filling us in on this overwhelming process. I look forward to hearing what you have to say on the "how" of self-publishing.
