It looks like excellence.

You are the one who anticipates what needs to happen before anyone asks.
You fix things quickly.
You over-prepare so you’re never caught off guard.
You carry responsibility without complaint.

You’re admired for your strength.

And yet, beneath that capability, there’s a quiet tension:

Why does everything feel like it rests on me?
When did rest start feeling irresponsible?
Why is it easier to show up for everyone else than to protect my own energy?

This is a pattern of over-functioning that has served you well — until now.

Many high-achieving women were taught, explicitly or implicitly, that their value lives in how much they can handle. So they handle more. And more. And more.

Until something inside begins to whisper that there has to be another way to live and lead.

If that resonates, I want you to pause here for a moment.

There is nothing wrong with your ambition.
There is nothing wrong with your drive.
There is nothing wrong with your desire to create impact.

But there may be something outdated in the posture you’ve had to adopt to sustain it.

As a recovering high achiever, I understand this intimately. I know what it feels like to measure your worth by productivity, to over-deliver as a default, and to equate rest with irresponsibility. I also know that shifting that pattern requires more than insight. It requires practice. It requires reflection. It requires accountability rooted in care.

That is why I created The Whole Woman Collective.

A space for women learning to honor themselves without apology.
A 6-week self-reclamation experience for high-achieving women who are ready to stop sacrificing themselves.

This is an intimate virtual cohort of 10–12 women. For six weeks, we will explore perfectionism, self-doubt, boundaries, rhythm, and what it truly means to live in alignment with who you are now — not who you had to be to survive.

If you have ever attended one of my Women’s Catalyst Circles, you know the power of the right room. When capable women gather without comparison and speak honestly about what they’ve normalized, transformation accelerates. We hold one another steady. We hold one another accountable. And we grow in ways that are difficult to replicate alone.

Impact is one of my core values. I believe that when a woman learns to honor herself more deeply, the ripple touches every sphere of influence she carries.

If you sense that this is your season to recalibrate — gently, intentionally, and in community — I would love to welcome you inside.

You can learn more and register HERE.

And if a woman comes to mind as you read this please share this invitation with her. You never know who is waiting for permission to stop sacrificing herself.

strategy and skill are no longer enough, and identity becomes the defining
factor. Shaped by culture, early experiences, and life setbacks, identity
influences confidence, presence, and how women show up in
leadership—sometimes leading to self-doubt, shrinking, or over-performing.
Through self-awareness, women can recognize outdated identity patterns and
realign with who they are truly becoming. When identity and truth align,
leadership feels lighter, more confident, and more authentic, allowing
women to lead with clarity, authority, and grounded presence.

There comes a point in a woman’s leadership journey when strategy and skill alone is no longer the answer.

This is often where identity enters the conversation.

Because the way we lead is deeply shaped by the way we see ourselves. Brene Brown famously said, "Who we are is how we lead." But I'd also add, "Who we think we are is how we lead."

Our identity is formed over time. By our culture. Our race. Our upbringing. The messages we absorbed about who we were allowed to be and how we needed to show up in order to belong, be safe, or be valued. These layers quietly shape how we move through the world long before we ever step into formal leadership roles.

And for a season, those identities often serve us.

But when we are walking in an identity that is no longer aligned with who we truly are, this is where the rubber meets the road.

This is where leadership begins to feel heavier than it should.

When identity and truth are misaligned, we struggle to fully embody the leadership posture we were designed for. We may shrink in rooms where our voice matters. We may second-guess ourselves even when we are qualified. We may feel sabotaged by self-doubt or imposter syndrome, unable to lead with the confidence and clarity that others already see in us.

Often, these identity patterns were formed early.

When we experienced hurt, rejection, abuse, or abandonment, something inside us adapted. We shifted into protect mode. Perform mode. Achieve mode. We learned how to stay safe, how to be acceptable, how to succeed under certain conditions.

And because those patterns once helped us survive or succeed, they can become so familiar that we mistake them for who we are.

At other times, our identity is perhaps reshaped later in life.

A job loss.
A failed venture.
A public setback.
A role we poured ourselves into that suddenly ends.

Without realizing it, we internalize the experience and begin to see ourselves through the lens of that moment. I failed. I wasn’t enough. I misjudged myself. And slowly, our leadership becomes cautious, guarded, or overly performative.

This is why self-awareness is such a critical aspect of the work I do as a leadership coach for women who want to lead fully.

Self-awareness is the doorway to identity recalibration.

It allows us to witness the version of ourselves we are currently walking in without judgment. To notice what’s been driving us. To name what’s been holding us back. And to recognize that the way we see ourselves may no longer be the truth of who we are becoming.

Often these are the types of questions that need to be processed so we go beneath the surface:

How do I actually see myself?
What anchors my sense of worth, authority, and belonging?
Is this identity rooted in truth — or in protection?
Am I leading from authenticity, or from a facade I learned to carry?

This is the kind of work my deep leadership coaching supports. Not by fixing you, but by helping you see yourself clearly. By gently uncovering the identity you’ve been operating from and creating space for a more aligned, grounded, and expansive self-perception to take root.

Because when identity shifts, you lead more powerfully.

You stop shrinking.
You stop over-performing.
You stop questioning your right to be in the room.

You begin to lead as who you truly are — not who you had to become.

And that changes the game sister!

Because once your identity is grounded in truth, another bonus is that your presence shows up more fully and vibrantly! And you can command rooms of power with your inner confidence that shines brightly through your presence.

Let this be your year of alignment--when how you lead and how others experience you, is reflected by your grounded, true identity.

We start planting seeds — in our leadership, our work, our relationships, and our lives. But before any seed can truly take root, there is something essential that must come first.

Clarity.

The clearer we are, the better positioned we are to lead rather than follow. To move intentionally instead of reactively. To choose from discernment instead of pressure. Without clarity, even the most talented women can find themselves circling the same terrain, expending energy without making meaningful progress.

And clarity feels especially important right now.

Life is moving fast. There is noise everywhere distracting us in myriad directions. In the midst of all of that, only what is settled within us has the power to keep us grounded, steady, and clear. When our inner world feels scattered, our outer decisions often follow suit. But when we are anchored internally, we lead differently. We respond instead of react. We trust ourselves. We stand firm.

So the real question becomes: how do we actually get clear?

Clarity doesn’t arrive through force or overthinking. It begins with stillness. With learning to slow down long enough to listen to that inner voice — the subtle promptings, nudges, and quiet invitations that are easy to miss when we are constantly moving. Stillness creates space to hear what is already trying to reach us.

From there, clarity deepens as we begin paying attention. We notice what keeps activating around us. The themes that repeat. The opportunities that keep showing up. The patterns and confirmations that quietly point us in a particular direction. Rarely does clarity come as one loud answer. More often, it unfolds through awareness and discernment over time.

Then comes aligned action. Taking steps forward while staying in conversation with ourselves. Continually checking in with what we feel and discern. Asking, Does this feel true? Clarity grows as we move, not when we stay frozen waiting for certainty.

As a woman of faith, I’ve learned to trust this process deeply. Many of the most meaningful steps I’ve taken in my life and work began with a prompting from the Holy Spirit — often nudging me beyond my comfort zone. I won’t pretend those moments weren’t scary. They were. But I have lived long enough to gather evidence. When I follow that voice, even when I feel unsure, the fruit has always been greater than anything my mind alone could have orchestrated.

This is also why clarity sits at the foundation of my work with clients.

Helping women gain clarity is not a “nice-to-have” in our coaching. It is essential. Because clarity brings confidence. It brings encouragement. It restores motivation that has been drained by confusion or overextension. And clarity is inseparable from awareness — seeing what is true, naming what matters, and recognizing what needs to shift.

This is where coaching becomes so powerful. Effective coaches know how to ask the questions that help you hear yourself again. To move you out of mental loops and into forward motion. Without clarity, we stay busy and exhausted. With clarity, we build momentum.

The clearer we are, the further forward we can go.

And isn’t that what we all want?

This feels like a season to ground yourself more deeply in clarity and assurance. To settle what needs settling so you can move ahead with confidence and peace.

If you feel drawn to explore what clarity could unlock for you, I invite you to take advantage of my complimentary Leap of Faith Activation Call. It’s a space to listen, discern, and see what might be possible together.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. You simply need the willingness to pause, listen, and take the next aligned step.

The strategies that once worked now feel heavy.
The pace that once energized you now drains you.
The version of leadership you mastered no longer fits who you’re becoming.

That’s not decline. That’s evolution.

Outgrowing an old way of leading often shows up when we feel out of
alignment with ourselves. I’ve been there too! And I’ve seen how recalibrating myself aligned to my true values gives me more peace, confidence, clarity and vigor.

I’m here to be your coach/guide if this is speaking to you. Because when a woman leads from alignment, she does not shrink her impact. She multiplies it.
And she gets to keep herself in the process. isn’t just about flying—it’s about breaking free from the limits placed on
her. For so many of us, the ceilings we hit are real—glass ceilings of
gender bias, inequities, and lack of access to opportunities. But what
about the other ceilings? The invisible ones built from stories we’ve been
conditioned to believe?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the limits we place on ourselves. The many ways we convince ourselves that we need to fit into a “box” to please others.

Or that we can only jump “so high” because to jump higher is just crazy! So we try to fit into the square peg even though we’re round! And it never feels right or true or aligned but we keep on squishing ourselves to fit into that peg, or to jump only so high.

I know for many years that’s exactly what I did. Without realizing it. I had placed limits on what I could do professionally and how I should do it.

But what’s interesting is that my professional journey is definitely NOT conventional. I had the privilege of working from home back in the early 2000’s when I’d moved from NY to MD. I’d even had a flexible schedule for a while. These were definitely NOT the norm back in those days. But somehow, those opportunities had become available to me.

But pondering these things got me thinking about the glass ceilings we face as women as executives or even entrepreneurs.

That glass ceiling—that invisible barrier stopping women from rising higher—is something we’ve all felt at one point or another. Maybe it was in a workplace where your expertise was underestimated. Or in a society that subtly (or not-so-subtly) conditioned you to play small, stay quiet, or not “rock the boat,” because you can’t “be too big for your britches.”

But here’s the real question:

Are these ceilings real? Or are some of them illusions we’ve been taught to believe in?

Unfortunately, some ceilings, like the various glass or concrete ceilings so many women face professionally are very real:

Workplace inequities

Lack of access to opportunities

Gender bias

The pay gaps…

But many of the ceilings we think hold us down are built from the stories we’ve been conditioned to believe. Stories like:

“Don’t stand out, fit in.”

“What if you fail?”

“You’re not qualified to….”

“Who are you to think you can do that?”

These ceilings exist in our minds, reinforced by years of unconscious programming. And the worst part? When we believe in them, we make them real and they become our reality.

But here’s a truth: Whether the ceiling is tangible or an illusion, the only way out is through and up.

When you defy gravity, you don’t just break the glass ceiling—you break the mental ceilings too. You stop asking, “Am I allowed to rise this high?” and start declaring, “This is where I belong!” or “This is my divine assignment and I’m here for it!”

You shatter every limit placed on you:
✅ The limit that says women can’t lead by their standards and norms.
✅ The limit that says success comes at the expense of balance or joy.
✅ The limit that says your bold vision is too much.

When we choose to rise, to defy expectations, we reveal something incredible: We were never truly bound!

This is why I loved the ending of the Wicked movie. Elphaba literally broke glass everywhere in the Wizard’s “palace”, climaxing with shattering the glass when she escaped being caught flying out on her broomstick! She was done! She was finally ready to claim her true power even if it meant doing things her way.

Even the strongest glass ceiling can’t hold us down when we tap into our full brilliance. And the mental ceilings? They crumble, the moment we decide they’re not real.

Because we are limitless!

When we stop internalizing the “rules” society hands us and start rewriting the narrative, we become invincible.

I want to challenge you today, to ask yourself;

What ceilings have I been staring at?

Are they real, or are they stories I’ve believed for too long?

What would it look like to rise anyway?

You were never meant to stay down, to plateau, to be limited in your abilities.

You were meant to rise, to lead, and to soar beyond the limits you thought existed.

Because, as the Wicked song Defying Gravity says, “Everyone deserves the chance to fly.”

So, go ahead. Take up space. Play bigger. Shine your light. Push past every barrier, real or imagined. And show the world what happens when women like us defy gravity.

You are limitless.

To help you leap on this path, I invite you to consider my new one-on-one coaching offer, Unveil Your Brilliance Leadership Elevation Program.

Here’s why this program is perfect for you right now:

You’ve been carrying this vision too long. It’s time to stop overthinking and start acting.

Your boldest contribution won’t wait. The world needs your brilliance now more than ever.

A new year is the perfect time to reboot. Clear out the mindset blocks, insecurities, and habits holding you back so you can rise into 2025 lighter and more powerful than ever.

If this is resonating like I hope it is, don’t waste another moment. It is not at all!

What it is:

-Self-care
-A way to refresh and recharge
-An opportunity to get inspired or enlightened
-Undistracted time to spend alone or with family and friends

I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except relax and read a very enjoyable fiction (The Last Word—so good) and listen to my fav tunes for most of my time away.

I wasn’t stressed or worried. Wasn’t doing or planning or strategizing or coaching/mentoring. I was being with myself, reflecting and pausing, which is exactly what I needed.

Of course I had a few issues with the overly rough surf and rip tide that was not the norm (because I can’t swim!) but once I got over that, I was able to find my Zen.

Seeing those waves sometimes at 10 feet high made me think about power and how it can look like so many different things. I cannot fight with waves that strong, I have to either avoid them entirely or surrender to them.

But my response dictates the power I have in those moments—to fight or go with the flow?

We can only control what is within our control. I do not control the ocean. I had to remind myself of that reality. But I do control my response to the ocean.

And when my response came from a place of humility and flow, I had a better outcome.

We can wield our power like a hammer or like a light bulb. We get to choose.

You know, the old-school idea of power—think rigid rules, barking orders, and a whole lot of "my way or the highway"—is getting pretty stale.

Those traditional, hierarchical, and often masculine views of power are a bit outdated and can be pretty unfair to women and other marginalized groups.

If power is employed not as a hammer, but as a light bulb, the ability to influence, inspire, and create positive change is more evident.

This new definition fits more with collaborative, inclusive, and transformational leadership styles, which, spoiler alert, are often associated with feminine traits. 🌟

Here are some ways to tap into your innate power effectively yet harmoniously and strut your stuff with confidence:

1. Crack the Power Code: Understand how power works in your workplace or industry. Think of it like learning the secret menu at your favorite café. By knowing the dynamics, you can spot the perfect moment to order your "influence latte" and make things happen. This savvy approach helps you navigate the landscape and position yourself for leadership roles.

2. Assemble Your "Success Squad": Like I talk about in my book, It’s Your Time to Shine Girl, form a dream team of supportive peers, mentors, and allies who’ve got your back. It's like having a personal cheerleading squad that offers advice, encouragement, and a bit of tough love when needed. This "power of the pack" approach is all about sharing experiences and strategies, and it's way more fun than going it alone.

3. Master the Art of Assertiveness: Channel your inner Beyoncé and practice some assertive, self-advocacy moves. Speak up in meetings, share your brilliant ideas, and make requests without feeling the need to apologize for existing. Use those "I" statements like a boss: "I think," "I feel," "I propose." And remember, there’s no perfect moment—if you’ve got something valuable to say, go ahead and say it!

4. Embrace Vulnerability: Guess what? Being vulnerable isn’t a weakness; it’s a superpower! Admitting you don’t have all the answers, asking for help, and being open to learning shows true strength. Plus, it fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration. So, go ahead and own those moments of uncertainty—they’re your stepping stones to growth.

And if you want consistent support, guidance, and objectivity, consider working with a guide like me to get you right on your purpose path where you harness your innate power and influence for the good!

My rates are rising in June so schedule a clarity call with me ASAP to explore whether a partnership with me makes sense.😉

By challenging the old power dynamics and smashing stereotypes, women like you can redefine what leadership looks like. So, go out there, shine bright like the star you are and show the world how it's done!

In the meantime, here's to your continued unveiling!

Natalie
The Brilliance Unveiler

This is not surprising, given the societal accolades for being able to "do it all." So many women unconsciously enmesh their identity with this posture.

There are consequences to this though.

As a leadership elevation coach, I've observed that this mindset can significantly hinder women from moving forward because they are tethered to too many things.

It also becomes a default excuse that seems plausible, except that it actually keeps women stuck in the hamster wheel of trying to do it all but not really focusing on what truly matters.

Even more costly, the pursuit of productivity often comes at the cost of our health, relationships, and sometimes, our sense of self.

Let’s face it. Everyone is busy these days. Technology, instead of simplifying our lives like we tend to tell ourselves, actually makes it more complicated and adds additional tasks that have become par for the course.

We’ve all been hoodwinked by this.

But what’s on your plate and what you juggle does not change unless you intentionally make choices to change the way you approach your prioritization of what’s important to you.

Ultimately, it's not about how many tasks you can juggle but choosing which balls to keep in the air.

This decision-making process is crucial for creating space for what truly moves the needle in your personal and professional life.

Yet, prioritization is often easier said than done. It requires a clear understanding of our values, goals, and vision for what we want in our lives.

In essence, the shift from being perpetually busy to being impactful starts with intentionality. This means making conscious choices about where to invest your time and energy based on what aligns with your long-term vision and values.

It's about understanding that saying no to certain tasks or responsibilities is not a sign of weakness but a strategic decision to focus on what truly matters.

If you’re considering working with me, you may tell yourself you’re adding one more thing to your plate.

But truly you’re freeing up time, because you’ll let go of those things that do not serve you. Our work together will help you focus, so you will end up saving time!

You will get clear about what’s important to you in the next six to twelve months in THIS season of your life and have the guidance and accountability to take aligned action.

This is where working with a coach and guide like me can be tremendously helpful in giving you the clarity and confidence you need to make better choices.

As a leadership elevation coach, my role is to guide women through a transformative journey where they realign their leadership posture to their vision and goals and clear the internal blocks and mindsets that have kept them stuck. With this unveiling, their brilliance has the space to be visible and shine so they ultimately increase their impact and income.

This productivity mindset is a huge block for high-achieving women and it’s extremely challenging to try to correct this on our own.I can relate because I’ve been there and sometimes still hang out there (and have to find my way back to my center with support).

One of my past clients who identifies as high achieving, was finding herself so overwhelmed with all her to-do list priorities that she found herself feeling lost in a haze of confusion. This clouded her ability to see areas of her life that she needed to work on to make an impact.

She was getting caught up in proving, performing, and perfecting and thinking that the things she prioritized a decade ago still mattered. But SO much has changed, including her!

She had certain structures and routines in place that she felt were non-negotiables for her because that’s the way she was used to operating. Things like, I have to read the paper every day or I need to put in 10 hours of “work” to feel productive.

But that way no longer served her. There were things in her life that she needed to outsource, delegate, or delete.

But those things, particularly the latter, are extremely hard to let go of when we have been attached to a way of being for a long time that worked in the past.

Wake up call!! We are in a new season! The world is SO much different now with technological advances, the pandemic, AI, and global conflicts, to say the least. We each have to shift the way we see our lives and rethink our priorities, especially professionally.

The journey from being "too busy" to becoming an impactful leader is not about doing more but BEING more and doing what matters as leaders/founders.

By reevaluating our relationship with productivity and embracing prioritization and intentionality, we can break free from the productivity trap.

I'm here to support you in navigating this journey, helping you to leverage your time and talents in ways that truly make a difference.

Book a Free Clarity Callwith me to explore how my services can support you in making your divinely designed difference in your sphere of leadership.

In the meantime, here's to your continued unveiling!

Natalie
The Brilliance Unveiler

I asked her how long she’d been doing the podcast and it has been about a year. Then she shared that when she was asked to launch the podcast, she was terrified, and it took her six months to start it. SIX months!!

I couldn’t believe it. She is such a natural, energetic, engaging host. She then shared how she felt invisible and unseen by her family during her childhood so when it was time to pick a college degree, she decided to choose theatre because she wanted to get the attention she craved all her life.

But after her degree, she was petrified to stand out. Even though her friends encouraged her to get into TV journalism, she could not fathom the thought of the teleprompter freezing or not working, putting her on the spot to speak without a script on TV. That ONE pretty unrealistic fear stopped her dead in her tracks.

She did not feel equipped without a script to bring her bold dream to reality and to stand out authentically as a journalist.

She decided to totally pivot, get married and have kids, and pick a safe career working with the government, where she could go back to being “invisible.”

Now, decades later, she so loves hosting her podcast that she is seeing how boxed in she has made herself. Even the current podcast parameters (which are not hers but the organization she works for), make her feel limited and constricted. She wants to create her own podcast and she shared how she has all these ideas stirring that she wants to see come to fruition in the next couple of years.

Can you relate of wanting greater visibility yet being terrified of it?

I share in my book, It’s Your Time to Shine Girl, that “physically minimizing our presence communicates a lack of authority, influence, and power. It conveys doubt about our right to be present and take up space, to be seen fully, to be visible enough to be acknowledged.”

I write, “in her book, Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighter Manual, author and influencer Luvvie Ajayi Jones shares that many of us have, “had so much practice shrinking ourselves and trying to make ourselves smaller that when it's time for us to take up space, we don't even know how. Even when we are called, we run. Even when we are celebrated, we tell people it's too much. Even when we're told to speak, we use a whisper.”

This is what my amazing host did for decades until she was finally able to take that leap and put herself “out there” launching the podcast for her organization, scared to death, not realizing HOW much she would love it and the possibilities that would open up for her…just by taking that uncomfortable first step.

When we play bigger in our mind, when we believe in the infinite possibilities abounding all around for us, the veil is removed from our eyes and we see more of what is true. It’s our openness to the possibilities that unveils the opportunities that connect with our brilliance!

Maybe you’ve always been told you’re too sensitive, too different, too much to handle, or too “out there” with your thinking, which made you shrink back and hide your brilliance. Perhaps because of society’s pressure and what it says one “should” and “shouldn’t” do, you’ve resigned yourself to playing small and keeping your ideas to yourself to fit in, to belong.

But is that truly working for you? Are you feeling truly seen and appreciated for who you are by dimming your lights?

Of course not!

Which is why this subject of visibility is so present to me right now because I’m seeing this repeating pattern of women making themselves blurry or invisible because they’re scared. And that makes me feel sad because I just know how amazing they would be if they’d just give themselves the permission to unveil their full brilliance.

In my first book, Frumpy To Fabulous Flaunting It, (an Amazon Bestseller for weeks over a decade ago!), I shared a quote in the final chapter that still has so much meaning to me. It’s in the book The Expression of You by Martha Graham;

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening" that is translated through you into action. And because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; the world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open"

Yes!! You have a unique distinct divine design that is meant to be visible, valued, and vouched for in your professional arena of choice.

Maybe you got tired of all the criticism and backlash you endured for speaking up or standing out the way you were “supposed” to as a woman. So you held yourself back, muted yourself, and hid your superpowers to the point where you may have even forgotten what they are and how you feel when you permit your full self to shine.

Maybe your brilliance made other people feel “less than,” so to compensate, you contorted yourself, shrunk yourself, and diminished yourself so you wouldn’t offend. Now this may have become your default and you tell yourself that’s the way it has to be.

As I share in It’s Your Time to Shine Girl, “The world needs your brand of brilliance whether it knows it or not. There are people out here yearning for someone just like you to say what’s in your heart, to be who you’re meant to be, to build and create the products, services, or experiences you have been uniquely shaped to birth.”

Your impact in your arena will be unstoppable and undeniable—if only you allow yourself to come out of hiding and shine like the bright star you are.

Your brilliance shining = impact = greater recognition = more income = legacy. This requires visibility!!

In the new world of work, visibility is more important than ever. You can’t hide under a rock now can you, if you want to advance and be impactful? With hybrid and remote work structures in place, visibility is even more challenging than it used to be for women.

We each have ideas, expertise, abilities, strengths and a unique contribution to make to the world, no matter how large or small. Your people want to hear from you.

They want to know your point of view, perspectives, priorities, and position. Yet many of us shy away from marketing ourselves or making shifts in our thinking or ways of being even when we’re unhappy or downright miserable where we are.

But until you own your spotlight, you are depriving the world of your unique magnificence.

This is why I am challenging you to take a TINY baby step to get on a FREE Clarity Call with me to discern if my Visibility Elevation & Accelerator Private VIP Package is right for you.

The fear of visibility shows up in SO many ways and I want to help women who are ready to flip the script to level up and elevate their visibility AUTHENTICALLY in this 5-hour intensive session with me so that their impact, income, and influence increases! ourselves that we should play small rather than risk backlash, consequences
or judgment.

I had a great conversation with a potential client yesterday who struggles with so many nuances in her corporate space that I think you will be able to relate to at some level.

This is a passionate impact-minded, high-achieving woman who has been in the same position in the educational sector at a major university for seven years—doing the work of the role above her for the past three years. Yet the odds of getting her deserved promotion aren’t likely going to happen in the next eighteen months.

And get this: she could potentially make $100K more in this new role! 😮

She LOVES her job but of course, wants to feel rewarded financially for her contributions. As a mom and wife, earning this money matters to her. As an Indigenous woman who is the first and only in her family to earn a graduate degree, she is building up her personal brand on the side because her WHY is to be the voice for other Indigenous people like her.

In her outside pursuits as a speaker and leader, she gets to be authentic, which is really important to her because she is shining the light on the invisibility of her people in America. She is determined to be the change she wants to see and use her privilege to uplift others.

But in her day job in the educational sector, she has to shape shift, often dimming her lights, because if she stands out, it is seen as TOO assertive. TOO much. In many ways, she feels invisible at work.

Sigh. 😔

Have you been there (or close) ?

Are you wanting your light to shine brightly, yet feeling the pressure to submit and conform to structures, systems, and societal expectations?

Navigating complex corporate dynamics is no joke (and the conversation at my last Women’s Catalyst Circle brought this home loudly!) and often as women we tell ourselves that we should play small rather than risk backlash, consequences or judgment.

Is it better though? Or just more comfortable? 🤔

Here is a serious question you need to ask yourself: Which matters more to me, shaving the edges off my corners to fit into a small box at work or boldly and unapologetically standing confidently as my authentic self taking up all the space I need?

I get it. To say the latter requires a LOT of courage and bravery. Because unfortunately there are consequences for women speaking their truth. Sometimes tough ones.

But as I was sharing with Emily, (not her real name), there are times we reach a season in our life when we CHOOSE to live, love and lead authentically and fully and unleash the full expanse of our brilliance.

In these seasons, it is helpful (sometimes imperative) to have a guide to keep you accountable to your mission and vision so you make your divinely designed impact.

Emily desires to be on national boards, publish her amazing story in a book, speak on larger stages, and elevate her community in transformative ways. Yet she shared that she feels overwhelmed because she’s juggling so much and she can’t bring many of these things to fruition.

Bandwidth and prioritization—a real challenge for so many women, particularly those with families or caregiving responsibilities, who might find it challenging to allocate time and energy to build and maintain a visible public profile. The effort and time it takes to engage actively with social media, manage a website, or speak publicly can be daunting when balanced with other responsibilities.

I shared with Emily that she’s not alone. And that partnering with me can give her the clarity on the priorities she needs to focus on in this season of her life so that she CAN propel forward faster in service to her mission.

If you are in a season where you know things have to shift and you truly care about your impact, come and join me at my next WCC event which will be held on May 21st, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Maryland Innovation Center, and it will be about—visibility!!

The event titled Visibility Unveiled: Stepping Up and Standing Out in Your Arena is going to be about how we harness our platforms, perspectives, and privileges to ignite change in our spheres of influence.

Register today for May’s WCC and sign up for a very special experience. but if you aren't aware of how you tend to sabotage those very intentions,
then you will likely not get the outcomes you want.

I hope you are in a spirit of readiness, because today, I want to dive deep (yup!) into something that resonates with many of us: the silent battle of self-sabotage, especially when it comes to our careers and professional aspirations.

You can have the best of intentions when setting goals or making decisions but if you aren't aware of how you tend to sabotage those very intentions, then you will likely not get the outcomes you want.

You know, it’s fascinating how we, as humans, are inherently designed to maintain the status quo. A safe home, food, and comfort - these essentials keep us in a loop of contentment.

But it's a universal truth that moving beyond our comfort zones is daunting. Our brains are wired for safety, not risk-taking, which means any step towards growth can feel like an uphill battle.

This internal conflict often manifests itself as self-sabotage, a tricky foe dressed in the armor of rationality and logic.

Consider what happens when this contentment to stay in what’s familiar becomes a barrier to our growth When the familiar warmth of our comfort zone becomes a golden cage that keeps us from reaching new heights in our career or business?

The journey to growth and change is inherently laced with discomfort. It’s like stepping into a cold shower – shocking at first but invigorating once you get used to it.

Our brain, (bless its protective heart), can sometimes misinterpret this discomfort, labeling new opportunities or strategies as threats, hence triggering self-sabotage actions without us even noticing.

Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow,” or “I’ll wait until I’m ready,”? These are signs of self-sabotage, cloaked in the guise of rationality.

It’s all too easy to postpone investing in ourselves and our leadership and professional development with seemingly logical excuses, waiting for the 'perfect' time. The perfect time …

when I’m out of debt.

when I feel more confident.

when my husband/partner says it's okay.

when work isn't so busy.

next year.

when I'm clear.

when I'm ready.

when I have the money.

These may seem like real rational thoughts (and sometimes they are), but often they are just excuses and a way to avoid what we believe may be uncomfortable—growth, change, transformation. All of these require dancing in the discomfort zone (check out this podcast episode I guested onwith that very title!)

So what happens is these moments of waiting turn into a perpetual delay of our growth and impact. The reality is that these “perfect” conditions we set for ourselves often mask deeper fears and resistance to stepping out of our comfort zones.

Today, I want to invite you to take time to examine your self-sabotaging tendencies (with love, compassion and NO Shame), so you learn how to avoid or manage your typical patterns.

Take a moment and reflect on your current goals and aspirations. What decision, choice, or intention have you made lately that you have not acted or followed up on?

Maybe it’s improving your skills through a new course, applying for that dream job, or simply dedicating time to your professional development.

Whatever it is, whatever is important to you that you have not moved forward on, ask yourself WHAT is holding you back. Is it fear, or is it the discomfort of stepping into the unknown?

Then consider, what is more important to you, giving into the fear or taking the uncomfortable step to move forward in your goal? What do you TRULY want? What IS THAT worth to you?

Here's another question for you: When was the last time any growth you experienced came from comfort (gotcha didn’t I 😊!)?

True personal agency is about stepping into the unknown, making decisions not just for personal gain, but for the betterment of others, and embracing the learning that comes with each new challenge.

I understand this journey all too well. In my Unveil Your Brilliance Leadership Elevation Coachingprogram, I guide women like you through these very challenges, helping them recognize and overcome their self-sabotaging habits to achieve a more fulfilling career, greater influence and an impact that transforms lives and communities.

Remember,self-sabotage is a narrative we tell ourselves, not an irrefutable truth. Changing that narrative is the first step toward your evolution as a leader.

In my work with professional women, I’ve seen time and again the transformative power of confronting and overcoming these self-imposed barriers.

My coaching is designed to guide you through these very challenges, offering the tools and support needed to transition from self-doubt to self-assurance, from a tentative, playing-it-safe leader to a bold, confident, and unapologetic one!

If you're ready to break the cycle of self-sabotage and step into your full brilliance as a leader,I invite you to explore how we can partner together. With my support, you can forge a path toward leadership that not only elevates your career but also sets a powerful example for women in your sphere and beyond.

Your journey starts with a single, albeit uncomfortable, step forward. Are you ready to take it?Let’s talk about it!

Remember this:Your dreams are valid. Your aspirations are worthy. And investing in yourself isn't just okay—it's essential for your growth and evolution as a leader.

Here’s to embracing discomfort, for it is the dance floor of growth and transformation 💃.

Natalie
The Brilliance Unveiler

lives and careers or businesses?

I always like to celebrate and honor women's contributions to our society, history, and culture, and with it, the stories of incredible women who've paved ways, broken barriers, and whispered (and sometimes shouted) "Follow me." I know we do this in March, during Women’s History Month, but we can (and should) celebrate women’s accomplishments the other eleven months of the year too!

I believe leadership – true, impactful leadership – is a blend of being poised and powerful. But what does that really mean for us, today, in our lives and careers or businesses?

Being a poised leader is about being prepared and positioned to shine (because it’s your time to shine girl!) It encompasses empathy, self-awareness, courage, authenticity, and resilience among other virtues. Being poised is about the deep, inner readiness to face whatever comes your way.

I’ve written recently on LinkedIn about Taraji P. Henson. With all her charisma and talent, she has opened up publicly about the battles she's faced, from fighting for fair pay to the disrespect that comes with being a Black woman in the spotlight.

Taraji's experience, despite nearly three decades of acclaimed work, including an Oscar nomination and four Emmy nods, encapsulates the broader struggle for fair compensation and respect that Black women face across all sectors.

But she didn't just accept the status quo in Hollywood; she called it out, fought for what she deserved, and inspired countless others to do the same. She knew her value, she embodied empathy for others, and she acted with authenticity and courage. This is the heart of poise.

From advocating for mental health to starting her own ventures to create opportunities for others, Taraji speaking up and out is taking action in ways that inspire all of us.

And then, there's being powerful. Embracing powerful leadership means cherishing our innate inner authority and agency to act decisively. It’s about speaking up for our mission and vision as leaders fearlessly.

Isn't that what we all want? To speak from a place of power without shrinking ourselves?

Power is never about overpowering others; it's about embracing your innate strength to make decisions and act in alignment with your mission and vision.

It's Shirley Chisholm not waiting for permission, but creating her own platform and speaking her truth, paving the way for change and setting a new standard for what's possible.

As she famously said: If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair. A testament that we can build our tables if need be! She didn't wait for an invitation to make history; she wrote her own invitation!

Shirley Chisholm was a trailblazer in every sense of the word, achieving numerous historic milestones that reshaped the American political landscape.

Beyond her electoral achievements, Chisholm was known for her outspoken advocacy on issues including civil rights, education, and women's rights, firmly believing in the power of change and the importance of being "unbought and unbossed."

Her legacy continues to inspire and empower future generations of leaders across the globe. POWERFUL!

Let’s look at Gloria Steinem, who I recently saw in a webinar on women in leadership, who embodies the essence of poised and powerful leadership through her pioneering work as a feminist, journalist, and social and political activist. Gloria has been at the forefront of the fight for women's rights for decades.

Gloria’s poise comes from her ability to articulate complex societal issues in a way that is both relatable and compelling, engaging a wide audience and rallying them to the cause of equality.

Her power lies in her unwavering commitment to justice and her ability to inspire and mobilize people. Despite facing personal attacks and societal pushback, she has maintained her integrity and focus, using her platform to uplift the voices of the marginalized and drive significant cultural and legislative change. to not just achieve goals but to enrich and uplift those around you.

Four months have gone by for the year already! WHATTTT??? Where is the time going? 2024 is already a trip y'all! But I digress.

Let’s unpack self-awareness and empathy—two important aspects of heart-centered leadership. Picture this: you're navigating your leadership path, making decisions, and leading teams. Now, imagine having this superpower where you're acutely aware of your strengths, weaknesses, and, let's be honest, those quirky bits that make you, well, you.

That's self-awareness!

It's like having this internal mirror that reflects not just how you see yourself but how your actions and emotions ripple out to those around you.

For me, investing in personal development wasn't just a nice-to-have; it was essential. As someone committed to my personal growth since my 20’s, it was about peeling back the layers, confronting the comfortable and the uncomfortable, and really getting to know the person steering the ship—me. This journey of self-discovery did wonders.

It amplified my self-awareness, making me more attuned to my emotional responses, triggers, and how I connect with others.

This amplified self-awareness didn't just sit there; it transformed how I approach leadership elevation coaching. Because here's the thing: when you deeply understand your own journey, you're better equipped to help others navigate theirs.

It's like being a guide who's walked the path, knows where the tricky spots are, and can shine a light for others to find their way. Hence, why I became the Brilliance Unveiler 😊

This process of self-reflection and growth allows me to connect with my clients on a whole different level. It's not about giving textbook answers but sharing insights from a place of genuine understanding and experience. It's about showing that leadership isn't just about leading others but leading oneself first.

Self-aware leaders are more empathetic, can adapt their style to meet their team's needs, and create a culture of openness and trust. They're not afraid to show vulnerability, acknowledging that they're a work in progress, just like everyone else.

So, let’s pivot to empathy.

Empathy is the foundation upon which emotional intelligence is built.

And I'm not talking about the "Oh, I feel for you" kind of empathy that's fleeting and forgettable.

I'm talking about the deep, genuine connection that changes the game in leadership. In my book, "It's Your Time to Shine, Girl," I dedicate a whole section to why empathy is, without a doubt, a leadership superpower for women.

Why? Because it's that important.

Empathy is the ability to step into someone else's shoes, to understand their feelings and perspectives, and to use that understanding to guide our actions.

This is essential in leadership. It allows us to connect with our team members, not as cogs in a machine but as human beings with emotions, challenges, and aspirations.

But why emphasize empathy as a superpower for women in leadership? Because, in many ways, it goes against the grain of traditional, command-and-control leadership models we’ve been conditioned to accept as “the norm.”

It's about leading with compassion, understanding, and emotional attunement. And let's be real, the world could use more of that.

Empathy in leadership isn't soft. It's about being strong enough to show you care, to listen actively, and to foster an environment where everyone feels seen and heard.

This is how you build trust, loyalty, and a culture where people are motivated to give their best. It's about creating a space where vulnerability is not seen as a weakness but as a strength.

Empathy can transform your leadership approach, making it more inclusive, adaptive, and impactful. It's about leveraging that emotional intelligence to not just achieve goals but to enrich and uplift those around you.

Empathy is accessible to anyone willing to open their heart and mind to truly connect with others. It's a skill, a choice, and a practice. And with it comes setting healthy boundaries with others, because empathetic women tend to give to others more than they give back to themselves. #realtalk!

In fact, this is the card I pulled from my She Shines Affirmation Card Deck today, “I set, express, and honor my boundaries.” (Yes, I pull cards from my deck routinely, and clip them on a stand so I can see them while I work on my laptop! Walking my talk!))

I encourage you today to dive deeper into empathy as a leadership superpower and learn how it can transform your approach. As a leadership coach, I’m here if you need support cultivating these traits so you can lead more authentically and with powerful emotional intelligence!

To your continued unveiling!

Natalie
The Brilliance Unveiler

This message is a taste of the types of communication you’ll receive from me as a member of the Unveilers Community!

You know, it's often said that our self-belief is the compass that guides us toward what we feel we deserve, shaping whether we can truly embrace it.

It's a powerful thought, isn't it? If we don't see ourselves as valuable, our deepest desires may just remain as daydreams, never really taking flight. To bring to life the visions we hold dear, we must stand firm in our worth and deservingness.

But here's the kicker: believing in our worth is just the starting line. It's equally crucial to be genuine with ourselves, to acknowledge when we need that extra boost, whether it's a helping hand or a word of encouragement, to turn those dreams into reality.

Let me share a little story with you - one of determination, a sprinkle of defiance, and a bright, lime-green Volkswagen Beetle.

Many years ago, I set my heart on a very specific dream car: a limited edition, turbocharged, lime green Volkswagen Beetle with matching green leather seats and wheel covers.

Despite the odds and the skeptics, especially after a visit to Carmax where they pretty much told me I was chasing a unicorn, I didn’t get discouraged. Walking out of there, I was like, "Yeah, right, watch me get it in a few weeks."

Refusing to be swayed by naysayers, a friend suggested I check out cars.com so I turned to the internet, diving into an exhaustive search for my dream car. And miraculously, not only did I find the exact model and color I had visualized, but it was also offered at a better price than what Carmax had led me to expect.

Folks who knew me back in the day knew that car was part of my eclectic, colorful, unique, disruptive brand in the make. Very few Beetles of that model and design were sold. And it was a Beetle! But it was SO me. That green Beetle was part of my brand identity! Shoot, I should have been their brand ambassador. 😄

At that time in my life, my self-assurance and tenacity knew no bounds. I felt there was nothing beyond my reach.

I shared this story in a group meeting recently to illustrate a powerful point: when we are clear and confident about our desires, we pave the way for them to materialize. It's not about magic or abstract beliefs; it's about understanding energetics and maintaining the right mindset.

However, reflecting on it now, I realize that I haven't been as clear or as confident about my future visions lately as I was back then.

Sharing this story with others not only highlighted the power of manifestation but also reminded me of a crucial personal insight: I need to reclaim that posture of unwavering clarity and confidence, with the faith that ALL things are possible with God.

My promise to myself is to embody this mindset more, to align my energetics and faith with my desires fully. It's about returning to a state where my internal certainty is so strong that it naturally attracts the outcomes I envision.

My story of getting my dream green Beetle is a testimony of what we can achieve when we refuse to let skepticism deter us and choose to believe in the limitless possibilities that await those who dare to dream big.

As we journey through life, the power of self-belief acts as our guiding light, illuminating the path toward realizing our deepest desires. It's this steady confidence in ourselves that shapes the outcomes we dare to dream of that we want to see become reality.

Yet, understanding our worth and embodying that belief is only part of the equation. The gap between where we stand and where we wish to be often requires more than just self-assurance; it often calls for aligned support, and a guiding hand(s) to help bridge the divide.

Because SO many of us struggle with embodying that type of unshakeable confidence. Challenges like imposter syndrome, self-doubt, insecurity, survival/scarcity mindset, and fears about our "qualifications" and value, keep so many women back from achieving their desires.

This is where the essence of my coaching services comes into play. It's not just about fostering belief or nurturing confidence; it's about creating a safe customized space where high-achieving, impact minded women can truly align their internal compass with their external actions and aspirations.

Investing in such support is like a leap towards gaining the clarity and conviction needed to not only identify your true desires but to embrace your worthiness in achieving them. One of my roles is to guide you through this journey, ensuring that every step taken is one closer to the manifestation of your boldest dreams, with a foundation built on the undeniable belief in your inherent value and worth.

Circling back to my story of getting my Beetle, I want to remind you of the tangible outcomes that can arise from such a harmonious blend of belief, confidence, and support.

It's a testament to the idea that when we align our desires with our self-view and enlist the right support, God and His angels conspire to bring our visions to life.

If you feel called, I would love to embark on this transformative journey with you, closing the gap between your longing and deserving, and turning your dreams and aspirations into your lived reality. You are CHOSEN and EQUIPPED to make a specific impact in your sphere of influence.

If you dare to believe that MORE is possible, that belief will carry you to the reality of what you most desire, as you take steps forward each day.

About four years ago, I wrote a devotional called Chosen & Called that I posted on my blog. What’s remarkable is that it is one of the top pages that folks visit on my site currently. The post has NOTHING to do with leadership or personal branding but was about my beliefs and my story of how I could finally accept that I was chosen and called to do the work that I do as the Brilliance Unveiler.

When I was just eight years old, I learned what it was like not to be chosen. It was in Physical Education class. Two captains would be chosen each to lead a team that would compete against the other in physical activities. The moment I dreaded most would follow when the captains would select members for their team from the group of 30 or so students in my class. Among the first to be chosen would be the popular kids, followed by the cool kids, the athletically inclined kids, and the really smart kids.

There I stood, feeling inadequate and unappreciated as name after name that was not mine was called. In truth, I was not the poster child of athleticism. At that age, I was already tall and lanky and because I was growing into my ever-sprouting frame, I was awkward in my body. It didn’t help that I suffered from bouts of asthma that made physical exertion a challenge.

As my classmates high-fived and pat each other on the back as they were chosen, I stood, frozen, staring intently at some spot on the concrete, so the shame on my face could be veiled. Finally, I’d hear one of the captains say, “I choose Natalie”. At this point in the selection with the teams pretty much finalized, no one really cared. Even though I was eventually “chosen”, it was because I had to be, not because I was favored in any way. On a good day, I wasn’t called dead last.

I got so used to not being chosen or favored that when I was, I simply could not believe it. At 25 years old I was offered a much-coveted full scholarship to attend Cambridge University to pursue a Master’s degree. Nothing in my experience to this point quite prepared me for this achievement. I spent the first few months of my program in complete disbelief, thinking that surely the powers that be must have made a mistake (I share more on that story in chapter 4 of my book, It’s Your Time to Shine Girl).

How could I have been chosen? In my most insecure moments, I felt that if they knew who I really was, they would never have chosen me. Imposter Syndrome ran rampant in my mind and almost derailed my success. Yet I had worked very hard to earn such an award, graduating at the top of my class as an undergraduate.

It just seemed too good to be true. Though I was chosen to be among a few privileged students, I could not embrace the gift until I accepted the fact that I had earned it and deserved it and had what it took to successfully get through it.

How different is God’s selection of His chosen children? In Ephesians 1:4-5, Paul says God “… chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—”

There is so much to unpack in these two verses. But the clincher for me is the realization that God’s love and selection of me are different than anything that I would ever experience on earth, even being chosen as the recipient of a prestigious scholarship to one of the most renowned universities in the world.

It is no surprise that I struggled for a long time to understand that as a child of God, I had been chosen, specially selected, before the creation of the whole Universe. God’s choice is not haphazard or by chance. It is not an afterthought, a whim, or a compromise. It’s certainly not a “have to”. No, we are chosen, selected, and set apart, by His design!

I hope that excerpt inspires you. Again, you can read the full post HERE.

Understanding our divine design can take a long time. Embracing the fact that we are specifically called to serve in a unique distinct way can take even longer. But from my own journey, I can attest to the truth that when you’re operating in your calling in your brilliance, nothing compares to it. N.O.T.H.I.N.G.!

On the flip side, when you aren’t clear on your calling, you can EASILY lose your way. That can look like:

Loss of passion, spark, or motivation

Indecision

Procrastination

Self-doubt

Chasing shiny objects

Addiction to distractions

Scattered energy

Constantly waiting or praying for clarity

Focusing on and stressing over small, insignificant things (e.g. tactics)

When you RELEASE the negative narratives and all the conditioning that make you doubt your brilliance and instead tap into what you are here to do, you can RECLAIM your brilliance and REAWAKEN to your purpose.

When you have clarity on your calling and operate from this posture, this is when you’re unstoppable, making your impact, making a difference! And isn’t this what you want, sister?

We are chosen and called by our creator. To be chosen is to be called!

You can buy into the fear, the conditioning, the lies... that say you aren't enough, aren’t qualified, aren’t special or chosen. OR you can create a new reality where you are confident in who you are, your brilliance and your divine assignment, where your thoughts, actions, and choices are aligned with your TRUE calling.

What would you choose?

You are destined for far greater things and need to be around people who SEE that, SUPPORT that, and show you HOW.

You can keep reading my blogs to find inspiration (being the lurker as one of my mentees calls it) and I love that you can access that for FREE! Seriously I do.

But getting the high-touch support and coaching in my Unveil Your Brilliance program is A game changer. Don’t just take my word for it though. Here’s what past clients have said.

With ALL that said (yeah, I’m wordy), let this be the year you make a choice that accelerates you into the heart of your WHY and see your world change beyond your wildest imagination!

To your continued unveiling friend!

Natalie
The Brilliance Unveiler

Jann's challenge is not just about racing; it's about learning to believe in himself, to see beyond his current limitations and to recognize his true potential. This resonates deeply with the process of personal and professional growth.

Jann's journey is a vivid illustration of how critical support and guidance are in achieving one's dreams.

He couldn't do it alone, and that's a crucial lesson. His coach, equipped with experience and expertise, was a mentor who understood Jann's trials and tribulations and knew how to guide him toward believing in his own brilliance.
"Gran Turismo" is a tale of personal triumph, the power of belief, and the importance of having someone who believes in you, guiding you toward your dream. I got such joy from watching his journey and seeing him defy the odds of all the naysayers who thought he could never make it in the real world of race car driving.

He was an underdog, but one with undeniable talent who just needed the right opportunity to learn, grow and evolve with the right support.

One key lesson from the film is the power of commitment - Jann learns to commit to his choices during a race, to not second guess himself, or to let fear dominate. He learns to go all in, and when he does this, he soars and wins!

Success, especially in leadership and personal growth, requires commitment. It's not just about taking the step to join a course, program, or cohort; it's about committing to the journey, to the effort, and the belief in oneself.

As your coach, my role mirrors that of Jann's race car trainer/mentor. I am here to guide, to challenge, to cheerlead, and to support. I commit to your vision for your career or business as fervently as you do.

When clients work with me for at least six months, they are not just investing time and resources; they are embarking on a journey of transformation that makes that initial investment reap gains that could blow their minds!

Like Jann, they learn to believe in their capabilities, to make bold choices, and to fully commit to their purpose path. My commitment is to be there alongside them, offering the support and guidance needed to navigate this journey.

This is the essence of the support and transformation offered in my Unveil Your Brilliance program. It's about going all in, together, towards achieving extraordinary results in your career or business and in your life.

IT IS YOUR TIME to do what you were born to do.

To be the fullest expression of who you are and live fully aligned with your Core Values. Yet, there's a lesser-known but equally critical concept: the 'glass cliff'. This metaphor extends the challenge beyond just reaching leadership positions. It's about the precariousness that often accompanies these roles, especially for Black women and women of color.

At times of corporate turmoil, it's not uncommon for companies to appoint women, to steer the ship. This is the glass cliff in action - a phenomenon where women ascend to power during a crisis or downturn, placing them in inherently unstable positions with a higher failure risk.

It's a distressing trend where women are often viewed as possessing the 'soft skills' needed for difficult transitions or image revamping. Yet, once stability is achieved, these women are frequently replaced, sometimes irrespective of their performance, perpetuating a cycle of instability and unfair expectations.

Research starkly highlights this issue: women and people of color are more likely to be appointed to struggling companies than White males. This pattern isn't just about filling leadership roles; it's often an attempt to project a commitment to diversity and inclusion, regardless of the company's actual stance.

2020 marked a significant spike in this trend, as organizations scrambled to diversify in response to a national reckoning on racism. But these appointments often came with a catch.

Black women may gain positional authority, but real power transfer, including executing their vision and building their team, is frequently lacking. The result? A role fraught with unsustainable workloads, lack of support, and unrecognized efforts, leading to burnout and frustration.

Tragically, the consequences can be severe. The recent heartbreaking case of Dr. Antoinette Candia-Bailey, whose experience of bullying and severe mistreatment at Lincoln University-Missouri culminated in her suicide, starkly illustrates the extreme pressures faced under such conditions.

Data from Lean In corroborates this disturbing trend, showing that women leaders of all races are leaving their jobs at higher rates than men, citing barriers to advancement, lack of recognition for their work, and a need for more flexibility.

If you grappling with any of this, there are two alternatives. First, decide whether you’re tired of trying to prove your worth and value and are ready to transition to entrepreneurship if that has been calling you. You, sister, have TONS of brilliance to bring to the table. Your impact can be greater if you’re steering your own ship.

BUT. Know that entrepreneurship is also a journey not for the faint of heart! If you KNOW that is what is destined for you, with aligned support like what I offer in my Unveil Your Brilliance program, I can help you transition with more ease and confidence and hone in on WHAT you can offer with your expertise and gifts.

The second option is to consider leaving the company where the pressure to perform is literally making you sick to the point of burnout. Unfortunately, many executives in demanding positions are dealing with this reality.

But I’m here to encourage you to think bigger and brighter for yourself. You deserve SO much more. And the right role at the right company can be life-changing. LITERALLY.

This is also an area I help so many female executives navigate with my leadership coaching in Unveil Your Brilliance—the transition to the new role/position, where you’re seen, valued, and appreciated for what YOU bring to your arena.

I had a prospect ask me recently if it mattered what sector they were in. And the answer is an unequivocal NO!

My brilliance is being able to see YOUR full power, prowess, and purpose regardless of your sector, and guide, support, and champion you in your transition, bringing my intuitive empathetic gifts, my superb ideation and brainstorming skills, my coaching around mindset and confidence building, and all my thought leadership around career elevation, visibility, personal branding, self-advocacy and more.

Trying to lone wolf your way amidst your career or business challenges is not the way to soar and thrive. In fact, it can hurt you leaving you stuck, beset with self-doubt, and running limiting beliefs around in your mind that will never get you to where you want to go.

If you TRULY are looking to level up and evolve into your most ideal posture that channels your full authority, autonomy, and agency, this year, this seed of an investment in my program will reap untold rewards.

But don't just take my word for it. Check out what a few of my clients have said about how Unveil Your Brilliance has helped them.

You can also read more about the program on my website.

If this is calling to you, don’t second guess or overthink it. All that is required is to fill out this Discovery Session form so we can schedule a complimentary Zoom call to explore whether this is the infusion of support you need to get to your best. F.E.A.R.

As I was sitting at my desk the other day, I found myself staring at one of the pretty crosses on my office wall that read, “We live by faith, not by sight.”

Such a profound truth, right? One that many of us have heard before. But is it how we actually live our lives?

In a conversation with a colleague earlier this week, we talked about the scripture that reads “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Heb 11:1.

We both were blown away by what these words speak to in our own lives—the vision of an amazing life that we can experience IF we fully embody the truth of those words.

So many of us live lives smaller than we’re meant to or designed for because we do not have faith in who we are and WHOSE we are! And what gets in the way of that? F.E.A.R.

Fear of SO many things:

I’m not good enough

I don’t have what it takes

I can’t make six figures because I’m not smart enough

I can’t travel like the folks I envy do because I am afraid something bad will happen

I won’t go hiking by myself because what if (FILL IN THE BLANKS)

I can’t go to the XYZ event because I’m not successful enough to fit in

And so on and so on

Fear, fear, FEAR! It is NOT our friend.

It constricts our energy. It shuts off creativity. It makes us play small. It holds us down like a bully in a playground.

Not to mention the fact that it is SO ill-informed. Fear only has the past as a reference. It has no idea about what is POSSIBLE… what is AVAILABLE… what is MEANT FOR US… what is OUR NEXT!

(Note to yourself: Decisions made from fear are never wise ones. Unless you are running from a bear!)

Back to the scripture, another version says it this way, “Faith is the assurance that what we hope for will come about and the certainty that what we cannot see exists.”

BUT.

If FEAR is in our way, guess what? We won’t have that assurance. In ourselves, others, or the God of the Universe. If FEAR is our go-to, we won’t be able to envision a reality that is as beautiful as we long for. Because our survival brain would tell us that we don’t have proof that what we would like to be is possible. So the desire, hope, and dream won’t manifest.

If our fear could see past its limited view, it would lose all its power because it would be instantly defeated by the view of all the resources, people, opportunities, and answers that surround it.

It would be silenced by Truth.

Let me share a story.

Last August I was appointed as one of the EIR mentors at The Maryland Innovation Center—a wish/desire I’d had for nine months. Because I just KNEW I was made for that type of position and it aligned with all my gifts, talents, and mission.

But I had NO idea how to make it happen. There was no formula, process, or playbook, to be elected as an EIR. No way to prove I would get the gig. So, I took the advice of a dear friend who said to me, “Natalie just keep showing up and engaging with us. You never know.”

And that’s exactly what I did. I showed up, took classes, participated in the events, and even started doing my own collaboration with them.

AND!

I also had faith that it would come to be if it truly was meant for me. I BELIEVED it was possible if it was divinely aligned. And it happened!! It became the reality!

As I was reflecting on all my blessings in 2023, (this being one of them), it made me think of all the times I had waited until I had PROOF that something would come to me—a dream, hope, or desire. And until I had the proof, I didn’t take any aligned action.

If that is how I had responded to the mentorship desire, guess what? It wouldn’t have happened. At ALL. Because my internal fears of not being qualified or good enough (or whatever) would have silenced the truth of what was possible for me.

Are you tracking with me ?

I was reminded once again, that waiting until something feels easy or comfortable or waiting until the fear and self-doubt go away, often results in a life with a LOT of inaction and a heap of unfulfilled dreams.

Without the fear of (you name it), WHO could you become? What would you do differently?

As purpose-driven women who are heart-centered and desire to be impactful, life constantly challenges us to expand who we are, how we do what we do, and the impact we can make.

When we break free from the conditioning, limiting beliefs, and scarcity mindsets, and do what seems “impossible,” we break through ceilings and show everyone what can actually be done.

This is how an empowered woman moves through the world! She ignores the naysayers and the critics, believes in her own power, invests in herself at high levels, and believes in the support and love she knows surrounds her.

My life is an excellent example of achieving so many incredible things against ALL odds! I am taking the personal power I have often found within myself and harnessing it to guide, empower, and fuel others in the spaces I exist in. Those who are ready and willing to receive the gifts, expertise, wisdom and knowledge I have to offer them.

My dear friend. What decision have you been putting off that you know you need to make but are letting fear win?

How can you detach yourself from the worry, self-doubt, imposter syndrome, or people-pleasing to set yourself FREE for this year?

If a lack of clarity is holding you back, if you feel out of touch with who you are or what you are meant to do NEXT, or if you simply want to be more FULLY EXPRESSED, ALIVE and COURAGOUS this year, I can absolutely help you!

If you’ve been keeping up with blog, you know I have a few offers right now that can serve and support you.

First, my Unveil Your Brilliance one-on-one program is GOLD-- for the right aligned women. What would you want them to know?

Your image or visual presentation is fundamental because of the link people make between what something looks like on the outside compared to what is on the inside. The visual representation of your brand is essential, particularly when you consider those first impressions about you are formed within 30 seconds or less of someone meeting you for the first time.

At the very heart of your brand message is you—the personal manifestation of your brand. Are you working it for maximum impact?

It is important to understand what brand image you are conveying and how to develop a Unique Value Proposition that positions you for success. You must be very clear about who you are, what you do, why you do it, and what makes you the stand out from others in your sphere.

Here are key tenets of your personal brand:

1. Differentiation:
A well-crafted personal brand sets you apart from others in your industry or field. It helps you define what makes you unique, showcasing your strengths, values, and expertise. Women leaders who focus on creating a distinct personal brand are more likely to be noticed and remembered among their peers.

2. Credibility:
A strong personal brand establishes credibility both within your organization and externally with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders. When people recognize your expertise through consistent branding efforts such as thought leadership content or speaking engagements, they view you as an authority figure in your field.

3. Influence:
By intentionally shaping your personal brand narrative, you can influence how others perceive you as a leader. Your authentic voice coupled with consistency builds trust among team members and followers alike. A powerful personal brand enables effective communication while inspiring others to rally behind your vision.

4. Career Advancement:
Leadership opportunities often come knocking on the doors of those who have positioned themselves well through their personal brands. By strategically aligning yourself with specific areas of interest or specialization relevant to your career goals, you increase visibility amongst decision-makers who can help propel your professional growth.

These are all huge! Yet so many women miss the mark. Why?

1. Self-Doubt:
Women tend to underestimate their accomplishments due to self-doubt or imposter syndrome—feeling undeserving of recognition for their achievements despite evidence to the contrary. This self-doubt can hinder their ability to confidently promote themselves and build a powerful personal brand.

2. Playing Small:
Society's expectations, gender biases, and cultural conditioning often lead women to downplay their strengths or shy away from self-promotion. As a result, they may miss opportunities for growth and impact by not fully embracing and showcasing their unique talents.

3. Lack of Support:
Women sometimes face challenges in finding mentorship or support systems (like a coach like me!) that encourage them to develop their personal brands. Limited access to networks or resources specifically designed for women leaders can make it harder for them to navigate this aspect of leadership effectively.

But there’s hope! First, you can conquer a lot of these limiting beliefs by reading my book It's Your Time to Shine Girl!

Second, there are folks like me out here who would love to help you craft, cultivate and communicate your unique personal brand as an executive or entrepreneur.

I have been passionate about personal branding because I’ve honed so much of my work around leadership presence and leadership posture and one’s personal brand identity is deeply interwoven in both of these.

When you hear me say “unveil your brilliance,” part of that has to do with making your personal brand potent and purposeful.
