My Mother’s First Moral Lesson

I covered up my ears whenever she talked about my dad’s Datuk-contractor who just refused to pay to his debtors as promised!

My mommy asked me to charge her mobile phone, but I couldn’t find her charger, and she got mad and here she came with an array of moral lesson which she thought which would be good and useful for the rest of my life to learn how to treat people right! Of course she has not forgotten to add some sourly tales of how she felt badly to marry to one of those third world country rogue tongue men who never learned to organize themselves since they were young, who acted never being taught with good family education and any good religious moral lessons.

She nagged, “No matter how busy mommy was, I only placed mobile charger in one place, and that is in the drawer of the foyer’s console desk! I am getting old, and my memory leaks like water especially after staying a few years in that silly city called Kuching, where you dad met an as equally silly Datuk-contractor now who even wants to become an YB!”

I could tell she was not just hurt by my dad badly but also indirectly hurt badly by this Datuk-contractor whom my dad worked with before. She said, “Being ORGANIZED is the first thing in life to learn and it should carry into the rest of your life circle. For an example if one day you become a very capable businessman that your relatives felt proud of you, yet they didn’t realize that although you kept investing all over the world, but you are reluctant to pay your debtors and those people who worked so hard for you, due to you are a bad organizer, you kept investing, probably you forgotten where you have invested as well as forgotten which debtors you have not settled and yet you tried to tell everyone that you have settled all your debtors, and just because you are a Tan Seri or Datuk, your friends, relatives and those small groups of people who received your favors would trust your words, but out there those debtors’ family have to suffer so much that they would curse you and your family? Being so rich and so selfish, he only benefited his own family by abusing other people’s time and resources without paying them reasonably fair, he would not donate his inheritance for the benefits of mankind but rather let all his children from different wives and mistresses to fight like dogs and cats! He never learns to be organized like those well organized American serious business tycoons, who not just highly organized but also possess high moral standard. And thus everyone respects them. You choose a life to live - either you end up like facebook founder who pays and help people or the datuk-contractor of your dad who owes so much unpaid debts to your dad and as well as many unlucky sub contractors, and nobody dares enough to sue him due to he could play laws in his hand, he created bloody excuses of ridiculous bills charged to your stupid dad’s company account instead, that’s the kind of bloody third world lawyer that your dad met, and this is why we suffered up to now, if you are not a born kiwis, today we probably end up homeless in Kuching, may be we will just go camping in that Friendship Park and can see how that bloody rich Datuk-contractor in Kuching live his life with his cheaply paid drivers and maids!”

She continued to nag angrily, “Only the kampong folks who are as equally standard of like that Datuk-contractor will vote him! If kampong folks who don’t act like a kampong folks, general Malaysians would not be snubbed by those folks from richer countries like Singaporeans, Bruneians, Kiwis, Australians and Americans. Just like how we are being bullied now as a Malaysian, people know we are poorer people! But hold on…. Although mommy never once bullies any people from poorer countries,” mommy said many of her own Malaysian friends did that, “they really look down at Indonesian, Filipinos, Thai and Burmese.” She commented, “Are they silly? They tried to look down and bully at those people who are from poorer country, but they have forgotten other richer countries people will look down at them as well if they possess that kind of stuck up mentality!”

Mommy asked me, “What is called being organized?” Before I could reply she nagged again, she just wouldn’t give me a chance to express myself…. No democratic huh, although she said she was educated in USA! “From the minute after school, you walk into this house, you throw your school uniform like Fuzhou Chow Chai (pickles) inside the closet or just throw them on the floor like a floor mat. You should hang them up on the specific place instead of asking me where your belt was, and didn’t even wear your belt to school, I am so glad that you end up in NZ best public school where your teachers will help to teach you to organize your life as well!”

Let me tell you a joke, my mom didn’t know how guarder looked like and the use of it, as she didn’t go shopping my school uniform with me. So I realized that my guarders had disappeared, so I told my mom, my mom asked me how it looked like, then she told me, “Oh my gosh, I was quite wondering why your aunt’s fancy bra strips ended up in my laundry basket!” And she even suggested me, “Use a rubber band, like how I did it during my military training!” But my school wouldn’t allow this happen, they are stricter than Malaysian military!

And truly my mommy is well organized, when I reminded her again of the guarder after being warned by the school, she knew where she placed her things!

Lastly, before she walked out of the entrance she still not forgotten to nag, “Remember! Being blessed is you earn a lot of money, and your wealth can help to benefit those people who help you to build your wealth! Don’t use them to add more wealth to your foreign bank account, after that whatever you promised them, you pretended that you didn’t say it and ended up those employers left you with their curses, all because you didn’t pay them the money or shares as you promised them before! And if you end up being a rich businessman like that I can guarantee that you won’t be a happy man! You won’t have any friend, and you only can derive happiness from the dirty money you gain to buy those empty happiness!”

“Mom, I understand you! Yes that kind of Datuk-contractor is so unhappy that he would always show his tantrum on his staffs during bad days! Low EQ Datuk-contractor wants to become an YB? What a pity Malaysian!” Luckily I am in a country with no big snakes and small snakes!

99％的中國現代父親或父母的頭腦甚至不能相提並論了一個19世紀的中國父親叫宋查理！他是受美國化影響的衛理公會牧師，雖然有那麼多的中國家長受教育在美國或西方，但在某種程度上他們的頭腦並不像宋查理的豁達，記得現在是21世紀，宋查理從來沒有見過任何電腦或3G手機，但大多數受過美國或西方教育的中國父母，他們如果沒有筆記本電腦，至少會擁有移動電話，這就是所謂的現代，但怎麼可能有那麼多的中國父親和公婆感到很失望而沮喪，如果知道他們的妻子/媳婦將生一個女嬰來?

到目前為止，我個人的經驗及看到：當他們生了全窩的女兒，這些充滿失意的父母，他們唯一的解決方法就是讓他們的女兒受最高教育，但他們十分勉強”，而總會有“一定的條件” - 他們最終目的是為了送女兒學醫，成為一名醫生，如果你進入奧塔哥大學醫學院，你會發現那里亞洲女性學生比男生更多,肯定的是亞洲女性學生比白人學生總數多！為什麼？這一切都是中國勢利的文化造成的（甚至是印度)，中國人他們總不欠醫生的，甚至還給醫生送禮，但他們寧可試圖尋找荒謬藉口不付他們債權人任何的債務！

或者有另一種流派的中國父母,他們是希望他們的女兒可以在小小年紀的時候就已經飛上枝葉頭做鳳凰- 他們將跳過教育階段直接追求名利和財富，他們是怎麼做到的？他們會送女兒去角逐任何形式的人才比賽，鋼琴比賽，小提琴比賽，表演比賽，歌詠比賽，魔術比賽等，在這種情況下，他們通常會限制他們的女兒在家接受教育，因為公立學校繁忙的日程教育，是不可能提早培養神童人才。

是否這些父母明智？大多數天才當他們到達40歲時，已經厭倦了受控的生活，像鋼琴演奏家李云迪，最近他在日本表演時開始亂了，以及一些數學神童最終成為娼妓等, 天才的生活是無聊的,因為他們只去追求一個天分, 在他們父母強制執時沒有得到機會發展其他興趣，他們在籠子僅限於履行雜技雜耍技藝，一旦他們離開了籠子，他們發現世界其實是一個叢林，發現他們不是他們父母嘴中唯一的人才

這些父母是的“自然選擇”的追隨者- 他們認為: 我已經讓你們女孩受過了教育，你們不年輕了，你們比我受教育的越越，從現在開始你們就獨立做出自己的決定。

所以，如果遵循“自然選擇”，肯定在這些女兒們的當中會有失敗者- 如果他們當中的一個嫁了個“令人沮喪的丈夫”時，如果他的思維依然圍在18世紀期清初，一個妻子應該是處女（他想要一個免費的妓女因他對待了她賤），妻子應該知道如何做飯，清掃房子，並利用妻子照顧他的老母親（他想要一個免費的全職女僕因為他從來沒有給她買什麼禮物），妻子應該能夠“生產”很多寶寶（如果她拒絕，他會告訴她，她製造寶寶差勁，他的妻子要充當免費寶寶製造廠），如果他的妻子比他掙更多的錢，他不喜歡這個主意（所以他試圖騙她放棄了她成功的職業生涯，比如他的收入不比他妻子的收入多,他反會告訴她她不能幹，當他的妻子懷疑他的矛盾，他總是找藉口，他想要一個奴隸），，他的妻子最終仍支付家庭開支，用她辛苦賺來的儲蓄，不久他的妻子的父母和姐姐都必須來解救這個“失敗者”，他們總會偷偷做，因為中國人要面子，如果他看到他的妻子和孩子被由他妻子的家人“資助”時，他會故意拖延給她每月的開支，有時他會說， “既然你的父母生的都是女孩，如果你不花他們的錢，他們給誰去花？總之，他希望他的妻子花了他父母的錢比其他姊妹多(其他已婚成功的姊妹總會帶回錢給他們的父母,但他讓他妻子從來不敢回她父母的家，因為她不能夠給她的父母任何的東西），但他希望將來一天他的妻子能從她的父母接受相等繼承的份額。

嫁給一個滑舌，無能和無賴的懶老公，給予一個好培養和教育的職業女性是無法忍受的內心痛苦創傷。那麼，為什麼，如果你是父母，你只是坐在那裡讓“自然選擇”照顧你的女兒，讓你最倒霉的女兒成為一隻黑綿羊嗎？因此，我建議所有中國父親，你必須跟宋查理學習，畢生培育和引導你的女兒，以確保所有的最好發生在他們的生活，你不應該做了一半就放棄，並認為你已經做夠了！

看著宋查理，他的三個女兒被送到品牌衛斯理學院,其中希拉里·克萊本畢業從此學院畢業，如果你的女兒在那裡學習，他們有很高的機會將遇到滿足聰明和勤工作的年輕人，因為哈佛大學和麻省理工學院就在衛斯理學院附近，如果學生父母只是富有,但他們既不聰明或勤奮，他們也不能考入哈佛大學和麻省理工學院。

What is so called Open-minded Fathers?

99% modern Chinese fathers or parents’ minds can’t even par up with a 19^th century Chinese father called Charlie Soong! He was very American influenced Methodist minister, although there were so many Chinese parents educated in USA or western educated as well, somehow their minds are not as open-minded as Charlie Soong, remember now is 21^st century, Charlie Soong had never across any computer or 3G mobile phone, but most American or western educated Chinese parents if without laptop, they would at least own a mobile phone, this is so called - modern age and yet how could there were so many Chinese fathers and in-laws felt very disappointed and frustrated when their wives/DILs delivered baby girl after baby girl?

So far I saw from my critical eyes and personal experience: these frustrated parents when they delivered whole nest-full of girls, their only resolution was to educated them, but they did it rather “unwillingly”, as there are always “ certain conditions” conditioned to their daughters - their ultimate aim was to send their daughters to medical school to end up as a doctor, thus if you enter Otago University medical school, you could find there are more female medical students than male students and there surely got more female Asian students than total white students! Why? This is all caused by Chinese’s (or even Indian) born-snobbish culture, they would always pay doctors and even give gifts to doctors, but they rather owe their other ill-fated creditor so many debts but tried to find ridiculous excuse not to pay any debt!

Or there is another genre of Chinese parents to wish that their daughter could fly up the tree top to end up as a phoenix as earlier as possible - they would jump over education phase to pursue fame and wealth directly, so how they did it? They would send their daughters to compete in talents competitions one after another, in such case they usually confine their daughters for home study, as public school education’s hectic schedule is impossible to foster young talents. Is it wise? Most prodigies became burnt up when they reached 40s, like concert pianists Yundi, he started to mess up his performance in Japan concert stage, and some math prodigy ended up as prostitutes etc. Life is boring for genius or prodigy, as they got no chance to develop their other interest when being enforced by their parents to pursue only one talent, they were confined in a cage to perform their acrobatic juggling feats, once they were out of that cage, they found out the world is actually a jungle and they were not the only ones who are so good and so talented!

One thing that most Chinese parents thought is if their daughters have become a doctor, naturally they could find an as equally good husband, in another word they believed that if their daughter has been educated in university, at least they could find another as equally good university graduated husband. So their fostering stops right at same time their daughters finished their tertiary education. Most of the time parents felt a relief the minute their daughters have graduated from university, and that’s the time they were tired as well, especially after years of worrying about finding money to educate their daughters.

These parents is the followers of “natural selection” – I already educated you girls, you are not young anymore, you have seemed world and being educated more than me, I will leave you alone from now onwards.

So if follow “natural selection”, surely there would be a loser amongst these daughters – if one of them married a “disappointed husband” when his mind is still confining in 18^th century idealogy, a wife should be a virgin (he wants a FOC puta), a wife should know how to cook and clean house and take care of his old mom (he wants a FOC full time maid), a wife should be able to “produce” many babies (if she refused he would tell her that she was not good in making babies, his wife should act as a FOC baby factory), he didn’t like the idea if his wife earns more money than him, (So he tried crook or hook to let her give up her successful career, e.g. your yearly income is not more than my monthly income --- actually it’s a BS, he would never show his wife his actual income, but he would tell her how capable he was and always find excuses when his wife questioned his contradiction, he wants a SLAVE) and at the end of the day, his wife still ended up paying for the household expenses with her hard earned saving, and soon his wife’s parents and sisters all have to come and rescue this “loser-sister”, they would do that secretly, as China-man is full of pride if he sees that his wife and children are being “financed” by his wife’s family, he would deliberately delay giving her monthly expenses, or sometimes he would say, “Since your parents got all girls, if you don’t spend their money, who are they going to give to? In short he wants his wife to spend his parents-in-law money more than the rest of siblings (as other successfully married siblings would bring back money to their parents) and yet he expected his wife to receive equal share of inheritance from her parents.

To marry a rogue tongue, smooth talking but incapable and lazy husband, for a well cultivated and educated professional woman is an unbearable inner pain. So why if you are parents, you just sit down there letting “natural selection” to take care, to let one of your unlucky daughters to end up as a black sheep? So I advise all Chinese fathers, you got to learn from Charlie Soong, fostered and channeled your daughters to ensure all the best happened to their lives, you shouldn’t give up at one point and thought that you have done enough!

Look at Charlie Soong, his three daughters were sent to branded Wesleyan College where Hillary Cliburn graduated from, if your daughter studied there, they have very high chance to meet smart and hard working young men as well, as to be in Harvard and MIT nearby Wesleyan College , a student either has to be smart or hardworking, you can’t end up in Harvard and MIT if your parents are just rich but you are neither smart or hardworking.

While during 19^th century when most Chinese girls were still uneducated, Soong sisters could speak excellent English, with knowledge and exposure from the most advanced country America and could help their husbands (who were not good in speaking English) in political arena in making decisions and helped their husbands more than any first wives in Chinese history, even up to these days, Chinese premiers’ wives are just a modern version of “flower vase” (like J. Kennedy helped in a way to make tabloid magazines got rich and for the rest of shallow minded parents or women to admire, doing their day dream or fantasize, I advise this kind of women to read Mills and Booms is much better in this case!), although some of these first wives are highly educated, but politically they couldn’t help their husbands like what Soong sisters could do, these women usually ended up teaching other women how to be a good wife instead of how to be a “master mind” to your husband!

So who gave Soong sisters this kind of confidence? I can assure you, it was their father: Charlie Soong, if a father fostered his daughters as equally his sons, surely his girls would grow up as confidence as a boy, they would think, act and talk like a boy as well, (many people didn’t know Soong sister read Bible and smoked as well, and no babies…. For their own good in that kind of society where most women and men were narrow minded ---- so think laterally), this is a typical essence of good western culture that enable successful parenting to children - both boys and girls are equal, thus girls won’t live under the lament of parents just because they are girls.

If you want to foster your daughters equally like how you educate your boys, start from today, don’t compare them to boys, please treat them as unisex. Once they grow up a little older, then you tell them, “Look, out there in your bubble, they are many old uncles and old aunties with ancient mind set still existed, they really look down at girls and may be one of them could end up as your husband and parents-in-law, so you watch out not to marry into that kind of family, or else my cultivation and education imparted to you will be returned back to zero again, and when you want to start over again, it will be impossible, because your husband will sing the counterpoint, and he will make your life very difficult to raise another new generation of successful girls, and that’s why our Chinese’s progress in fostering successful “iconic girls” progressed so slowly!

Many women also didn’t know that why lesbians can achieve more than stereo-type female, I learned that lesbians’ minds think like men. Yes, but only those “Chinamen-professionals” are not aware of what it is!

Actually you can still find many of these “IT-illiterates” amongst older generation professionals in Malaysia, they are not entirely “illiterate” as they still learned how to use 3G mobile phone and text with Wechat just because they could interchange those X-rated pictures or short triple-X videos.

And before they reached home, they also learned how to delete those pictures and videos immediately right after they stopped the car’s engine. But if there were such foxy fathers surely they inherited some foxy teenage kids as well, and these foxier kids would retreat those X-rated pictures and videos, hoohas began.

And I admitted that’s not my desired lifestyle, I felt my karma being disintegrated by such hoohas of something that every normal person could perform except if you dare enough to sell or display the most primitive acts to public!

The difference between good cultivated men and uncultivated men is although they both could be highly professional, but the later one obviously has not acquired any good hobby except traditional mahjong game.

When their pockets are fully loaded, they wouldn’t acquire a good hobby of what they have missed out when they were young and poor, instead they would be more keen to spend money to exhibit their reproductive prowess by having extra wives, mistresses, China dolls, and they felt dam… proud about it, and if the first wife in limbo didn’t ask for a divorce, these “chinawomen” would spend hundreds of thousands for plastic surgery or also compete with their husbands, “Let’s see who can have more lovers!”

Another significance of these IT-illiterates are they hardly read any books besides newspapers and their text books - but that was happened like 30 years ago, they only believe in experience and they thought that knowledge could be gained by sitting in kopitiam three times a day listening to their friends’ talking.

Or if some of them don’t like to go kopitiam, then they would go to Church, a little better – but they would ONLY love to read just a genre of book, i.e. religious associated books.

Similarly, many female-professionals read only professional-related books and in additional either confined to religious or romance associated books, most female-professionals don’t have habit of sitting in kopitiam three times a day, so they would play computer games instead, why I thought so? All because they kept sending me games invitation over facebook, they thought that as a housewife, I must be very free!

So, how to cultivate children to develop good hobbies? I should appreciate my parents’ education then, because I never got bored - no matter I was pretty rich and god dammm…. poor like now.

When I saw many kids spending time to play their computer games in name of improving their dexterity, but soon I heard some of them develop CTS! Why don’t they go write stories with broken English instead, actually this could help to develop their imagination or learn piano properly, acquired an elite dexterity, then in life they could type millions over words but they would never develop CTS and still could play piano like 20 year-old when they reach 50s.

Before kids learned any hard-acquiring hobbies but already learned something with easy ways to derive pleasure, like computer games and sex, sorry they would never like to acquire another skills and hobbies anymore that require high discipline, concentration and time management. That’s why please don’t simply teach your friends’ kids how to use computer or I-pad without their parents’ permission, as some parents are not “talented” mothers and their kids are not obedient kids. Your one hour kindness to teach such kids about computer games could forever develop such kids’ permanent damage in acquiring difficult hobbies that required painstaking years of learning to acquire skills!

Let’s pull back the main topic, what happened was a Chinaman engineer while enjoying his massage by a China doll in a massage parlor called Red Dolls House, he bragged to his Chinaman friend, “Oh my new boss is so handsome, around my age, I think this is good because I am able to communicate better with someone about my age! Oh yeah! He is so kind-hearted - when I won the contract he also gave me two mobile phones and two laptops.”

Soon after the Chinaman received another call from his new boss, “Oh hi Datuk, I am in China now, sorry I won’t be able to fly to meow city this week!”

Stupid Chinaman didn’t know that immediately his Datuk-boss could tell he was in Red China Doll House somewhere actually not far from his residential area in the meow city, “Why the fuck this guy has to tell lies?”

At the same time, whenever the given laptops by Datuk-boss were turned on, the information of such Chinaman’s financial and work progress situations would be periodically transferred to Datuk’s specially engaged computer technician, or in another word, a hacker called Ah Ho.

Nobody greedy in this world loves to see any person who works for him earning money except he himself the Datuk boss could earn money, and through this kind of business intelligence espionage, many IT-illiterate Chinamen couldn’t receive money fully in black and white from their contracted works when jobs were completed and yet they were so scared to make a noise as well, that’s typical Chinamen- they only dared to bully women and men that they thought they could “swallow”, when they face authority, they would tug their tails in between their hind legs!

What do you expect from flying economic class or economical airlines?

I just finished reading a yesterday’s newspaper - a reviewer was giving a flight test review about the new route of Emirates A380 flying from Auckland via Sydney to Dubai. The heading was “Seats may be superior, but service is average”, I wonder which airlines would give first class service if you are flying economic class? The more money you paid the better the service, why ask for more when you can’t afford it?

Perhaps the most prestigious experience for economic class passengers would be happened only if they were being upgraded to business class and this was caused by the economic seats were fully booked – I only got such dog luck once, but I felt like I was a wolf followed after a tiger, and I knew who was the “tiger” who arranged my ticket. Perhaps my sister is much luckier than me? She got upgraded at least for three times already during last two years, but she is the one who flies at least twelve times annually for either domestic or international route.

But from my experience – commercial jets are the world most snobbish and smallest little cabin that segregated classes into the most defined manners - No social status, no money = No talk! But when the whole aircraft like MH17 tragic happened, an honored man, a rich man or a poor man, everyone has to die physically sooner or later. Tragic only would simmer forever in those deceased’s beholders but it would soon forget by non-related gossipers.

Someone like me is a typical good example who would fly economic all the time when I have to “plough” money from my own hard savings to fly, I am not as lucky as such reviewer, as she was sponsored by a touring company or like many executives whose business class air tickets were generally settled by their companies.

About ten years ago, I remember I was three months pregnant, but nobody could see that I was pregnant, I was flying SIA economic class. SIA is known as one of the best airlines in the world, as I was traveling alone, they would arrange my seat at a particular corner’s “most secluded seat” in the flight - where my meal would be last served, and when there was no more refreshment remained, I wouldn’t be served! I believe the above mentioned kiwi reviewer was probably sitting at a certain “hinterseat”!

Most airlines would love to arrange ladies and gentlemen who traveled alone in such “hinter seat” rolls where their meals would be served at the last batch, and this was the main cause of my bad experience of flying SIA and also it was due to I was pregnant, thus I was hungry all the times. I was hardly served for such route from Auckland to Singapore, I recalled I was only served twice during the whole journey, which were always came late – I remember there was only a serving of refreshment sandwich came with drinks, and a meal with no choice, a vegetarian meal.

When I really got hungry, I finally asked one of the air stewardesses if I could have some light food, she turned me down immediately, “Sorry there was no food remained on board.” And this could happen to SIA? Why do you think I believe that was an SIA air stewardess’s white lie?

I didn’t understand why I was ignored by those SIA stewardesses up to these days - as I didn’t bother them during the whole journey except asking once for the extra light food after the vegetarian meal. Now I thought perhaps the air hostess thought that a “fat” single lady likes me better don’t eat too much, and that’s I was only served twice and that’s why I was the last one on board to be served?”! Do I have to announce to those air stewardesses, “Look, I am pregnant; I want a meal with meat not vegetables!” So obviously from my bad experience, you need to tell the airline that you are pregnant, so that they won’t arrange you to a “hinterseat”!

After the flight, I ended up wolfing up McDonald burger right after baggage claim! I planned to take the seat and flight record to make a protest to SIA, but I decided how about if these stewardesses were my nieces or daughters who would get fired, warning or demoted due to my complain, they received enough punishment by wearing such high heel and retained that professional smiles to serve more than hundred of passengers, I wouldn’t be able to stand and walk with such high heel for even 4 hours, and they had to work for more than 9 hours although they could rest a bit in between.

I could find a right time to tell SIA what’s its loophole as one of the world best airlines!

After flying economic for so long, I grew wiser, these days I only booked cheapest air tickets, as long as I think the airline is quite reliable. I would choose to fly Jetstar with no meal provided.

Ten years ago, such fetus couldn’t talk when it was hungry when I flew SIA, but now my daughter and her older brother have grow older enough to nag for foods when they saw other passengers were eating, “Sorry, Jetstar won’t accept cash like Airasia, mommy can’t use the credit card, as I won’t be able to settle the credit card if we don’t return Malaysia, also you don’t have a daddy who ever settles his wife’s credit card once!”

Being traveling poor has its fun as well, I think most poor mothers with chauvinist husbands who have to fly international route know what I am talking – they would be busily packing, running errant and settling everything before leaving their home, most mothers were drop-dead tire by the time they finally sat on the airplane. I would make sure to bring extra fully charged batteries for the laptops to settle kids for sometimes, that’s the time they could play Mario or whatever forbidden games they could play normally, that would suppress their hunger at least for a few hours. I also made sure to bring along headphones as well, so those Glick zip zi chop, xi shit annoying noises won’t disturb you and other passengers. “Leave me alone, I need a good rest after last three restless days!”

Meal-less cheapest airline is the best airline for me as a poor tai tai, I don’t need to suffer sitting over the first class or business class where I was an anonymous called as Ms. Yellow but being judged if I was someone mistress, who was my husband or if I was rich enough - under some scrutiny eyes on what handbag I carried and what shoes I wore? In short I know and accept my class and my fate, and I am just the overwork poor tai tai who is realistic – get real but not hypocrite or snobbish.

As a jobless tai tai, Jetstar is one of my best choice to fly Asian-pacific routes, they would offer ticket upgrading, but I would never upgrade it, even with the minimum amount of just a hundred dollar, I think my kids and I could enjoy a reasonable good meal during the transit stop over Melbourne airport.

Often there were surprises by flying Jetstar even it was meal-less long distance flight- when the children were behaving reasonably adorable enough, some nice and sensitive Asian chief air-stewardess or stewardesses from business class would even end up giving them some complimentary tidbits during the flight or before departing the cabin!

Reminisces of late 80s incidents

Back in late 80s, China was still not considered as one of a global giant, it was merely a country that most other races looked down at, they were detested as communist by most democratic favored folks, they had not win the Olympic yet, their musicians have not monopolized most international concert stages yet, and they had not earned their first bucket of gold yet.

Even though I was born a Chinese-Malaysian, my name is a Chinese name, I remember when I flew from New York to Frankfurt back then, I was the only Chinese amongst the passengers of Lufthansa 747. Early morning I had to fly out Oklahoma to transit Chicago, and finally reached New York at early evening.

It was first time I flew Lufthansa, but it was a very tired and bad experience flying journey for me to choose a wrong airline. Should be glad that I was young then, merely 20 over years, I didn’t need to sleep three days I wouldn’t curse anyone, that's why I only mentioned this incident after 20 years!

I remember I was arranged to sit framing by few nuns (should be high ranking mothers), and my seat couldn’t be adjusted as it was faulty. So I made a complain to the air stewardess, I was told there was no extra seat.

Was it merely a coincident of the faulty seat with the German meticulous and very racial defined character? Or the seat was arranged in such a manner that nobody wanted to sit with a Chinese flying from New York to Frankfurt, so only nuns were big heart enough to accommodate Chinese two decades ago?

This incident was kept in my heart since 1987 to today 23 years later, I am almost reaching 50s. Since then I didn’t fly Lufthansa anymore. I flew Swiss airline back then, I remember on my another destination flying from Zurich to Singapore with my Italian friend, our tickets were even upgraded to business class, perhaps it was due to her diplomatic passport.

Anyhow there was still no Asian face on the flight, in late 80s; you wouldn’t see many Asian faces yet in both Eastern and Western Europe. But since 21^st century onwards, Chinese could be found everywhere, they are HATED now again because they become filthy rich that only Louis Vuitton loves them and vice versa!

I have a friend who is a air stewardess for Emirates, she told me now Chinese are everywhere, and due to she can speak Mandarin, she was always arranged to fly African routes, unfortunately her working trips were never the Safari trips ok?!

Once she reached there, she would hide in the hotel, eat and sleep there before flying off again, should Emirates considered giving more bonus to those pilots, air steward and stewardess more bonus?!

She said due to there are many Chinese passengers on board flying to Africa, that’s why they always made her flew there and actually it was quite unfair for her, why?

She flew the remote routes where those African countries are not safe countries, but only Chinese perhaps with Chinese kung fu dared to go working in such countries full of violent.

So Chinese are rich, but most of their money earned were under high risk that not many people realized that, most people just thought of Chinese’s money are dirty laundry money, paying poor people poorly to work for them to make them so rich.

True enough, Chinese businessmen mentality hardly changed even if they are highly educated as professionals in Australia or Britain, it just happened right in Kuching, I saw how my husband was not paid half of his work after he worked so hard for almost three years for a project. If he doesn’t have a professional wife, I will join the maid agent in Kuching soon!

Thank You Datuk can can tin tin chin chin chon chon! I will curse (sorry I can't pray anymore when I heart is filled with hatred) for your “kind” heart that those Kuching Police thought that you are kind hearted with your peanuts ..... 5k of money.

When you wrongly married a “chinaman” husband!

I earned back my title of "Miss" again since two years ago when I won my bet in insurance claim after someone knocked me from behind while I was driving at just 20km/hour during early morning jam.

My husband said if I could get back my insurance claim he would change his last name to my last name. To change his last name to mine??? I would immediately become the most notorious woman in the whole Sarawak state, and I dare say his whole "money" clan relatives would throw their rubbish at me.

BUT I have learned my most painful lesson in life: If I ever trust a Chinaman’s words then I won’t be an angry woman since the day I married one and getting more angry when I found out I was fooled by a “Chinamen” stereo-type promises and weasel claims.

I also learned my hard lesson and realized that illiterate women could produce very confident sons than educated and cultivated women!!! Because of their illiterate and ignorant background, they gave their sons so much approval and flatters, they praised their sons so much that they were brought up so positively, even if they are “shorties”, they don’t mind looking for a tall wife, if they are ugly, they don’t mind looking for a winning Miss Beauty Pageant, if they are poor, they don’t mind a rich or prominent family’s daughter, with a little money earned in the pocket, they are also more confident than other men, they could crow louder than any roosters! A good reference for modern women if any of this genre of man chasing after them!

I found out our society full of narrow minded and dirty minded people, when they learned that your husband only returned home once a month, they would immediately think that he could have a mistress out in another town or they would imagine your husband probably doesn't love you.

They would never use their brains and be thoughtful enough think that your husband can’t afford returning home every week when he was working for a blood-sucker Datuk contractor.

They didn't know that whenever his Datuk-contractor boss received his billion ringgit cheques from JKR or any government sectors, in a few days time the money would be exchanged and deposited into his Australian accounts, they didn't know that this billionaire-Datuk doesn't like to pay any of his subcontractors all over Malaysia, even RM30Ks of payment to his sub-contractor would turned his face black green and the whole office of his staffs would witness that, they knew that their Datuk-boss just likes to receive but never like to pay his creditors.

I came to Kuching 5 years ago, I observed this city people, I learned that all because of there are too many of these unethical contractors infested in this city, that’s why Kuching people are mostly quite poor, most of them just could barely afford to eat three simple meals, and only time they could afford a better life during their old age, if their children turned out as a doctor or capable professional.

When the main-contractors sucked the subcontractors' money, they in-turn also learned to suck other helpless people like revenge.

In short people in a city, people laugh at poor but not at prostitutes, that’s why people won’t show you that they are poor. Only when you watched how they bargained with hawkers and poor labourers, then I learned how mean people are, it is like flu, when the Datuk-contractor bosses didn't treat you well, you also won’t treat people nice.

I worked in North for almost two decades, ang mo usually treated people nice, in oil and gas industry due to ang mo bosses' good payment ethnic, the payments were released on time, payment in full and there were less “undertable” monkey deals went on.

Good ang mo payment culture built up there for so many decades, thus generally even oil city Chinaman businessmen also treated their staffs fair and well, I think this is something what oil city folks should feel glad and proud about.

When few big corporations in a city willing to release money, then the rest of their subcontractors would have enough cash flows, and soon the whole city people have money to spend, and there will be less criminal cases too. Instead of poor people in Meow city has to depend on tourists’ money all because these born-in Meow city’s greedy takaus don’t want to pay their subcontractors, and their cash mostly went to overseas banks.

I heard that only those “migrated” oil city takaus carried the good payment culture to Meow city, they are the good payers to subcontractors. Those Meow city-born mean contractors never learned that if they didn't pay the subcontractors well and on time, subcontractors wouldn't have enough money to pay their labourers, if their labourers didn't eat enough to go working, if any accidents happened on the work site and how about if the employees were not paid fairly and that led that to stealing and murdering cases, so who to blame? The filthy rich blood-sucker contractors are acting almost like a “day time robbers” blamed their poor subcontractors? That’s one the most UNFAIR things I witnessed under the sun in this meow city!

I always told my friends, don’t need to study those complicated currencies laws, just observed how Malaysian currencies versus Australian or Malaysian currencies versus Singaporean, then you can tell how much our money went into those foreign countries, usually it happened that when government released billions ringgit today, the next few days time those billions would end up in foreign bank accounts, those who played dirtiest in this country, they are the ones who love the country least and don’t trust this country the most.

I think our government needs very strict control over its own currencies being transmitted this way with the excuses as “foreign investments”!!! If the money earned in this country, then should save it in this country, that’s why since I worked 20 years ago in Brunei, I kept seeing Malaysian currency drops every year. There is a big hole for big fish to get out, but “nobody” stops it, that “nobody” could be a big fish too to allow this happened???

Only Chinamen would love to work for this kind of blood-sucker contractors, all because Chinaman businessmen can’t speak English like ang mo, and sometimes these Chinamen are taught too well in Churches that they become too holly and not daring enough to play dirty to earn those stacks of contracts with subcontractors’ hard earned money to pay those "undertable" money.

‘Huh, I wait until you bring me to court house if you dare, just tell you that I am a lawyer too.’ That's the only time the contractor thought if he should pay, even if he did pay his creditors, he would be so unwilling. His mind is "I am the king, you are all slaves, slaves don' t deserve to get paid."

So Chinaman subcontractors, do you dare to sue your ex-contractor boss when he sucked your hard-earned money? Unfortunately, Chinaman businessmen got no ball when they faced Datuk, they scared the shits out of Datuk, so when they got frustrated, their poor wives and children would suffer from their Chinamen’s tantrum and poverty.

Many people don’t understand why I don’t like to attend Church service any more, especially the bloody weddings, when the pastor would preach that a wife has to listen and acted submissive to her husband.

Oh yes, all because the bible said it, then why don’t encourage the men to marry many wives just those Abraham or Jacob? Bible recorded that too. What generation we live in now?

Then why bible didn't add Book of Enoch that mentioned all those aliens names and promote Antediluvian lifestyle to us, then all ladies should cover our hair, lest that those fallen angels saw the human women were pretty, they would come to them! The reason was the book was out of date, acted as a submissive wife happened back in new testaments, old era too, wasn't 19th century have gone and by gone?

When men wanted girls to listen and submit to them, there would be too many excuses, and ladies are stupid and no brain enough to retaliate. Wise men prefer a compatible wife, not a puppy-wife, but stupid and weak men prefer a puppy-wife, so that when they go out to work they got bullied, when they return home they can bully their wives.

Modern days, professional ladies went out to work, earned at least RM10, 000 every month, and a man often earn less than that, but when he looked for a wife, he and his mom would make sure that his wife is a university graduate, but make sure she is not smarter than his son or academically more qualified than his son, must be pretty, from a good family background, she must know how to cook, and must have same denomination.

I always wonder if such mother-in-law wanted to look for a full-time maid cum babies maker for her son, she didn't even look at the mirror of how handsome her son and capable her son is. But the mother-in-law won't let that happen to her own daughters, she would suggest maids for her own daughters!

The minute when the "dreamed daughter-in-law" got married, she and her son expected his wife to stay at home cooking, cleaning house and taking care of babies, yet her son couldn't afford a home maker wife if she doesn't go out to work. He just thought for himself that his career is much more important all because his brain was tuned that old way trained by his old thinking mom, then when he found out his business would not be always smooth, he wouldn't be honest enough to say he doesn't have money, he won’t be honest saying that he can’t afford to feed the family alone, so he would drag on giving the monthly allowance to his wife, drag on and on, his excuses was, ‘Oh, I was too busy, but don’t I always give you fully even it was three months later? I have just forgotten to bank in the money for you.’ ‘Oh, I have forgotten to send you money today.’

Do you think if I work since I was 15 years old, and my income was always more than regular government officers, do you think I am stupid enough to be fooled by a Chinaman husband excuses? I am just tolerating.

One day when I went to kopitiam, I heard he asked his friend, ‘Is your wife working?’

‘Yes.’

‘Wow, you untong.’

What did this bloody Chinaman hinted to me? He was the one who removed my claws, and now admired those cats who can catch rats?

When I can’t find any job in Meow city as there is no rat in my area for me to catch rats, I plan to work outstation, immediately some people would stop, ‘Come on lah, don’t go lah, or else your marriage will be finished lah. How can you leave your husband all alone like this lah?’

Just tell me directly what’s in your brain, I found out many women are more dirty minded than men. I would tell them off, ‘Do you know how old I am now? You think I am barely 30s or 40s?’

When married at old age without meeting an honest man about his financial status, you could end up like me, working overseas as a housekeeper as a maid even if you have a degree, and neither you can earn money like before you married, as some careers are status oriented career, if you married a right husband, his high social status can help to boost your career.

Also when you married a loser, your sibling or your husband's sibling would look down at you, because they think that you choose a wrong husband, your next half life is gone to drain forever, they think that you probably are as stupid as their sibling that you married too, they won’t help to launch you a new career in this city even they could be very influential. In short they are more interested to see I work as a maid, a housekeeper or a driver for their kids, so they would feel much superior. When same thing happened in the society it infested to families or vice versa. It only takes our patient and determination to get out of any adversities.

Well lucky Chinawomen, use your brain, not because your rich husbands give you sufficient money and expensive gifts, then every stay home wives would have your kind of good fates.

Don’t you know it could happen to your own incapable chinaman brother who hardly gives enough money to his poor wife (also he removed her claws)? When his wife “thick-skin” enough to ask for pocket money from you during Chinese New year, if you are a professional woman, will you give her an ang bow instead of attacking her of asking you for money? Think before you open your mouth to attack another poor woman who is being controlled by your own brother.

It is a girl’s nightmare to marry a wrong husband and an employee’s nightmare to work for a heartless boss!

When I write this article, I think I am on the verge of getting crazy, imagine a Chinese new year without any extra dime in your pocket when you husband’s boss didn’t yet release any money, and it only remains three days before Chinese New Year. Worst still I have been jobless for ages!!!!

For a rich Datuk businessman, everyday is his Chinese New Year, that’s why he wouldn’t understand his poor employees why they insisted to celebrate Chinese New Year and must have bonus released to them only on Chinese New Year.

What a fateful life in this Kuching city? I came here with full of anticipation but in this eve of my stay here I would tell you why I think I don’t belonged to this city Kuching!

I am still not bowing down with my tough life yet, past three years I gained more white hair on my head more than ever, I gained more weight more than ever and I am getting darker in complexion more than ever! You know who I would curse, when my prayers were not heard by my God?! No woman likes her husband or children being bullied right?!

About three years ago, my husband returned home announced to me happily that he signed up a project with a handsome, young and a professional boss, a lawyer. And three years later he told me that I have a crow mouth. Well I am a modern Cassandra, he didn't take my advice!

I poured cold water on him, ‘Do you know that a lawyer won’t know anything about your work nature? Does he know that you can’t build road when it is raining? Does he know that every day when you worked on his project, you are involving in lots of capitals? Does he know that you have to pay trucks, mechanics, workers etc and etc.? Will he pay you the full amount of the periodical work done like those established companies like Naim Cendera instead of just 40%? (This kind of bloody contractor really thought that every subcontractors earn more than him!!) Does he know that you have to pay for all those suppliers? Do you know lawyer can “chop you here and there in a ultra unreasonable way and at the end you won’t earn any dime, yet he will show his Buddha face telling you that, “Look, I am always helping you, am I?” Does he know that if he delay paying you but you have to sell off your shop lots and other capital assets?’

So since my husband signed up with this lawyer-contractor boss, my life is in hell for three damn years in Kuching too. It is a girl’s nightmare to marry a wrong husband and an employee’s nightmare to work for a heartless boss! Let me tell you this, I am the victim of this issue, I have a “wrong husband” and he has a “wrong boss”, my luck is betting zero, and yet I am still holding my chin up grinning bravely.

There are many simple-minded sub-contractors (usually engineers) never thought twice when signing up project with a main contractor. I hear a lot of information past three years when I stayed in Kuching of who are the best contractors, who are the mean contractors and who are the worst contractors. I warn you that you have to watch out the following kind of main contractors when you sign up to work as a subcontractor for them.

(1) Make sure he is not a second generation of a fairly rich businessman’s son, he was probably one of the smartest siblings amongst many others, that mean he would never need to let his finger getting dirty, arrogant in nature, thus he won’t have any compassion for those people who work hard for him under the sun, instead he would think that they are stupid that’s why they work these kind of dirty jobs, or else they would be like him sitting under the cool air signing billions of ringgit projects with the government sectors.

(2) Make sure he is not a lawyer. The reason is he doesn’t know any shit about construction works, but he knows laws. Unless you have your own corporate lawyers’ team, or else if you are just a little subcontractor, he may “swallow you up” without a single noise, you won’t dare to make any noise, all because he is a lawyer. He thought that his subcontractors could “steal materials” to undercut cost but actually these subcontractors are always under stringent surveying by JKR engineers and consultants. So he thought his subcontractors actually earn more money than him, so he starts to cut here and there very unreasonable. He didn’t know that his subcontractors only were the winners to win contracts from him, when they bet their LOWEST!!! If a person plays dirty to win a contract, he will think the whole world would act like him! So don’t expect his fair treatment to you “employees” (or slaves)

(3) The contractor-boss hardly accepted even “minimum religious education” (no use if his wife is as holy as a monk!) as a Chinese-Malaysian if he was not taught any Confucianism or Taoism, but if he is purely English educated. So don’t talk about compassionate, love, cherish and patient to him. He would scold the whole office staff yet no one dares to retaliate and challenge him, even if he was so unreasonable and acted like a barbarian. He usually has foul temper, the whole office staffs scared the shits pout of him, especially if he becomes a datuk now!!

(4) Usually his dad has at least two wives, to show that he was from a problematic background already, lacked of fatherly figure since young day to coach them to behave like other ethical businessmen.

Just few weeks ago, people in Kopitiam kept gossiping a contractor, this contractor didn't want to pay after a company removed all the heavy equipments out of the scene of a building for its open ceremony. I learned that he was a famous contractor in Kuching city who would not pay his subcontractors but would tell them to continue his next project, if the subcontractors pull out, they would be afraid they would never receive any more money, but if they continue to work for this company which shares a name like Barbie’s best boyfriend, their poor families would be having Chinese New Year like mine, no traveling, no good foods, no good clothing, poor in cash for years.

The other kind of above mentioned boss would treat his office staff like slaves, one staff has to work for five staff’s works to cut down his employees’ expenses. These staffs were always working overtime, some of them even have to work during Sunday, during Chinese New Year, and the most they could get is RM500. What the staff didn’t know was the accountant was the one who got scolded badly by her boss, “I don’t understand why you all need to get bonus during Chinese New Year, I thought of giving you all during year end!” (Dubs… year end was just a month ago, did you give last year end’s bonus to your staffs?)

Bad bosses are like bad husbands, lucky employees need to look for good and kind employers with compassion. When I stay in Northern Sarawak for almost two decades, I know of a good employer, he was an engineering consultant, he and his wife earns a lot of money, yet they would credit those staffs and engineers who worked for them, they would bring the whole company staffs to tour England and Australia, during the trip the staffs would have extra expenses given.

Some bosses are just greedy, they only think of if their own pockets and bank accounts are loaded, they didn’t care a shit of what other people suffer, the best is like my husband, sold off his shop lots and capital assets to “pay” for his contractor-boss’s project.

Lastly, I met a woman kept telling me how capable is her relative, but does she know that what is the use of a capable person without any compassion, his standard of kindness is different from the rest of the populations, if he donated less than a 10K he expected a big photo taken posted on newspaper. He didn’t pay his employees well, make them overworked. He didn’t pay his subcontractors fairly and also slowly.. or dragging the payments so that he could use the money to reinvest in European share markets …. yet when he talked to them, he would say, “Oh I always help you, am I?” That’s mean he thought all his subcontractors earned lots of money from his projects, he didn’t know yet now he has become very notorious in the civil contract works that he likes to cut and chop a pig, and the subcontractors at the end not even sharing a pig tail, and I think I heard I cursed, “SHITS”

If you are main-contractors coincidentally fallen the above points that I mentioned but with true generosity, fairness, kindness and high conscience, then I am not talking about you!

This year end marked my 5th jobless year in meow city, I learn to live more stingy than ever and learn like those majority poorer local residents live their simple lives.

Hardly anything that I did here for the past few years could get any positive response. To gain new friendships by doing charity? Never in my life I become so negative, why it makes me felt that it is a city that welcomes tourists but not a migrated resident from other smaller town?

The spending power of the people here are not like the oil city, I only learn that they save their money to get out of meow city during school holidays, last Saturday night I witnessed meow airport was packed with people, queued up a more than a kilometer in both departure and arrival halls.

First Christmas when I was in meow city, I was so cheerful and full of positiveness, and the life here gradually pushed me to the bottleneck, now I wonder if this will be my last Christmas here!

I went to a pharmacy, there was no lip balm under RM5, but the cheapest was more than RM10. What's going on here?

I saw the rich ones become richer, poorer ones become poorer, unfortunately I become the later one.

Poor people become more resourceful and they really bargain hard. Usually a lip balm with RM10+ lasted me for 4 months, so I returned home prepared a whole year supply of lip balm that cost me less than RM10.

New Zealand bee wax, a piece of that cost $7 (RM19), but I just need 1/6 of it.

I bought lemon infused extra virgin oil during clearance sales, 50% off, cost me a bottle around RM11, you just need a quarter cup

Bought 10 plastic empty containers from pharmacy cost me RM2

Put bee wax and olive oil together in a bowl, heat them in microwave at 90 degree until the bee wax barely melted, then stir the bee wax until melted.

Can buy this from Cosway, half teaspoon mixed and melted with little water.

Mix everything together, keep mixing and stirring under room temperature

Before it gets thicker, make sure you already transfer them to containers.

There are 10 small cases and the big one sure lasts me to the year end. How about I sell you those small containers each for RM3? I GUARANTEE you won't get dry lip in England during winter!

It is not soft, edible. So why buy those lip balm made by petroleum gel and all those chemical?

We often made a lot of noises just like little coins that really could irritate our mom who would always burrow in her work for more than 4 hours without making a move or noise, that was usually the time she left us both taken care by the our best babysitter in this world, the computer.

Mommy has forgotten that our school break would last for two weeks so she sent us again by excellent MAS children delivery service to our maternal grandparents, and we returned a week earlier, she felt that her work schedule has interrupted by us, and she would especially got irritated when she was absorbing in her work, we would answer the telephone subconsciously and she would get mad when the telephone was looking for her. She would nag, ‘Where those stupid backward people who think they are still living in 19th century to get that idea that as a housewife I would be so idle? If I wasn’t fool by your dad to quit my hard earned career, now I would have earned at least two times of what your dad could give me every month! But why all those narrow-minded “Chinawomen” think that the best things in my life did was to get married and have two of you annoying noisy idiots! Oh yeah, they could only earn RM1500/month before getting married BUT after married they could receive RM3000 or 5000/month from their husbands besides those nice gifts, oh yeah that's why those women would say life is so good being married and have precious little cute kids!..?" Then she threw us a challenged glance. Aye we all know mommy prefer cats more than kids!

Obviously mommy didn’t like being interrupted half way during her work, especially when someone had asked her ridiculous kind of request, she would nag and nag until her friend would be convinced that mommy has “depression”! But actually it was her "bio-rhythm" of more than three decades working ethic was disturbed!

Also under this kind of interrupted situation, mommy would start to raise her voice and nag at us too, ‘Hey dubs, I don’t want you grow up without any sensitivity, when your parents work so hard from 7am until 7pm, and you are already 15 or 21, but you expect your mom or other people to prepare your dinner when they return late and tire? ... While you basically spent your day just studying, flirting around with opposite sex, playing your hp and computer?!’ Mom said if one day we grow up like this kind of hopeless useless insensitive senseless kids, she better goes jumping down from Kuching city council tower too!

Tell you a secret, I found out our grandpa is acting exactly like mommy, he got irritated too when we made noise, he would get disturbed as easily too, especially when he was concentrated in his reading but our daddy only got irritated by us when he sang karaoke or watched TV, but he was noisy too, we don't understand why he would get bothered by us?

When mommy was in good mood, she would "give" us lectures, she said that every professional was trained differently, some have to be fostered since very young age like athletics and classical musicians, she said they are the two known groups of people that since young they have to immerse in long hours (at least 5 to 16 hours daily according to age) daily routine intensive training and diligent practise alone in a small room for more than three or four decades, and when they mix with new friends or even relatives who are “play-oriented or privilege –oriented” who didn’t know the situation, they would think such person is weird, loner and antisocial. They never learn to respect those hard-working people and they would instead think those hard working people are idiots as life is short. Mommy said this people is like those ancient Egyptians aristocrats, as during their parties, the servants would take out a mocked coffin and mummy walked around to show their guests, “enjoy yourself or else soon you will end up like this!”

Mommy said if “work-oriented” person who married a “play-oriented” husband or wife, for sure he or she wouldn’t be able to cope such “play-oriented” spouse. Mom said the person who trained since young to get immerse in a long hour training or practise session is like someone in Chinese Kung Fu who could immerse quickly in his/her concentration quickly, and he/she won’t comprehend why other “play-oriented” people are wasting too much time in “playing” or “sitting in the kopitiam chatting with a group of friends who are never better than him so that he never would get inspired to know what is really called “hard working” and when they worked slightly harder they would let the whole world knows that “they are working very hard today” and expecting “rewards” for themselves like going to massage parlor or having a big feast with a group of as equally “play-oriented” friends.

Mommy said to live in this world, it is our duty to work hard, and if we are able and have such unbeatable talents then we have to work hard to bring some contributions to mankind instead of just for self-benefits. She said she would feel guilty whenever she was left idle by doing nothing, so she would always find something to do.

Mommy got very mad at our studying ethic, she said we are very lazy due to the atmosphere and influence, she said if we are surrounded by too many “play-oriented” and privileged people. She said their working ethics are very different from those who have no social status, no luck, no help and no privilege. But for those privileged people, their parents, grandparents, uncles were either the famous generals or politicians, and they would have scholarships, study or job opportunities and all sort of privileges waiting for them, unless they really are stupid and hopeless idiots.

Mommy said a citizen without much privilege from a country, he or she is not so eager to return working in his/her third world homeland after his/her studies in a western country, only those people who are privileged would be eager to return home where high ranking government positions or very good prospect kind of job opportunity opening or waiting for them, and their wives would similarly allocate to work as one of the head sections in a university.

Mommy said that in some third world countries in Indo-China that she heard of, some Chinese students were always considered as aliens even though they were born and raise in such a country, they even scored the highest A-level result in the whole country but such third world countries policies would only let those under-privileged “alien” students studying in their liberal arts college trained to become a teacher, because as a overseas Chinese, especially in older days most of them are rated as third class citizens in third world Asian nations, now most third world nations would think twice of how to dispose Chinese when they realize China has becoming rich and strong, mommy said, “Not only got snobbish people existed in this world but also snobbish government!”

Mommy told us we are considered as an “alien- citizen” living in such a country without any privileged background, thus we have to work harder than anyone surrounded us, they won’t understand us, they are like kids born with silver spoon, but we are just kids born without any spoon. Mommy also said that amongst those privileged group, it also separated into many different groups too, the most privileged would be the politicians’ kids, then down to lowest ranking on its own so called priority race. We actually still don’t understand what mommy was talking but we just learned from her that we are the third class citizen in the country that she and dad were born in, she said that we should thank her that we were not born in this country, so we still have better fate than most third class citizens like her and dad.

Then mommy poured cold water on us again, she told us to “get real” as we are not a genius like our cousin R, so don’t expect in the future we could receive a scholarship to study in our national university, she said if we are in western country if we work hard at least we would be offered a scholarship or even like our EE who could even win Singapore government scholarship, we would be treated there as a second class citizen. She said if we are genius living in a western country with less racial discrimination, we will be treated as first class citizen sooner or get accepted by people faster than the current country that we reside in, but as a genius we still have to work harder than any geniuses in western country so that we could stand out.

Mommy said she read an article about a Chinese-Australian brain surgeon working in USA but initially nobody in Australia would offer him any good position, thus he worked very hard to get famous in USA first before Australians medical institutions appreciate his achievements. She said such same theory like this hard working Chinese-Australian brain surgeon will apply to us exactly. Mommy said most PhDs holders in USA are foreigners, thus foreigners would give another foreigners opportunities. Mommy said all American professors that she met were also having very big heart, they were always willing to help and impart knowledge to foreigners too, thus most foreign scholars would think that Americans are not as discriminated, mommy said just like Singapore government, the western countries are also as equally smart, they would keep the first class honor foreigners in their country by offering them PR, suddenly one day the PR application forms reaching such person mail box out of his surprise, that’s what our another smart cousin S experienced.

Mommy said only short vision stupid third world countries kicked off most talents by keeping a group of special privileged professionals in their country, and nepotism is apparently the prevailing picture, so why the countries are not badly corrupted when ruling by this kind of leaders?

“POTATO- RELATIVES”

In a small town if someone became rich, soon he would become famous too, soon every out-of-towns potato-relatives would want to claim their relations with him!

I have a friend who grew up in a very small town, eventually she ends up in meow city. She told me whenever she met someone especially from the bigger cities in our state, they would ask her, ‘Do you know so and so in your hometown? He is my uncle!’

When my friend asked them for more details, she found out all of them are actually not that “close” to each others, they are merely “potato-relatives”, usually ended like this, ‘He is my mom’s cousin!.... Oh due to my mom and him have same surname, thus they recognize each other as cousins!’

My friend of course kept quiet whenever she saw her out-of-town friends declared proudly as a “potato-relative” of such rich businessman from her small hometown, but deep in my friend’s heart she sighed, ‘Snobbish and ignorant idiots! He is my “potato-relative” too but I don’t even dare to tell anyone about it, lest that I embarrass myself.’

Such businessman became rich due to he did smuggling business at first before he got into decent business, he was neither too decent of his character, in the dark closet such small town people knew that he attained to rape his sister-in-law and he had mistress but all his follies were all covered up by his “Chinawoman” wife, when someone informed her what her husband did behind her, she would tell them, ‘Oh no, that’s not my husband, my husband is a very good man he wouldn’t do such bad things and he wouldn’t do that to me!’

And like most stereo-type “Chinawoman-wives”, his wife of course produced some highly educated professionals and successful bussinessman-sons to make small town folks zipped up their itchy mouths to reveal the truths, instead they would keep quiet but admired his success without being caught red-handed by any authority. Diplomatically they would tell everyone, ‘He is a rare talent!’ thus whenever people from out-of-town heard such remark, indeed they would feel so proud that they are his children’s friends or as his “potato-relatives”!

Any successful “Chinaman” must have a very forgiving and very “big heat” “Chinawoman” wife behind him, of course she admired him like a demigod, or else she wouldn’t tolerate and spoil such a pervert-husband. The “Chinawoman-wife” usually was the one who would boost and assure her husband’s confident, esteem and pride, so her husband would really think that he already had achieved his social status in the small town with his financial success, occasionally when a politician came to the small town for a social function, he would suddenly pop in the function hall sat next to the politician without approval from the organizer, actually that was the seat belonged to the organizing chairman and when there was a photo session, he would sit right next to the politician again, and actually that was the seat belonged to the organizing chairman too, this happened frequently that it became a very embarrassing joke amongst small town insighters!

So after you hear this story from me, when you want to inform your friends proudly of a rich man’s connection with you from her hometown, please think twice! Because you are an outsider and you are just a "potato-relative", you could truly embarrass yourself unknowingly to yourself even up the day to your coffin, because your friend would never tell you the truth of your “rich and famous small town potato-uncle” is actually “not that marvelous” in her and other insighters’ eyes ….. yet you felt “so proud” of him!

HOW TO PICKLE FOO CHOW'S ANG CHOW CHOW CHAI 福州紅糟菜

(Foo Chow's Ang Chow Pickled Sour Vegetables )

I learned how to make Foo Chow 's Ang Chow Chow Chai since primary school, eventually I had to take over the job when I got older, often in old days I would silently protest when dad asked me to do it alone all the times instead of asking any of the rest of my 7 sisters, but now I realize it whatever thing you learned since young days eventually one day you would become a "master"!!! For an example, when I was merely studying in primary school, dad would give me a puff whenever someone hanged him a cigarette in kopitiam.

Two decades later it became my weapon, when I joined in civil defense, I would puff like "a cool smoker too" deliberately with those "compulsive smokers" in order to provoke a nasty "friend" (I treated her as my very good friend, but eventually I found out she would use me and consider me as her secret enemy instead!) and I was watching shows all along to witness how a jealous woman could bring along "sexual harassment" and many other problems to her "secret enemy" when she couldn't control her bad mouthing!

I realized that dad has aged since the day I ate his Ang Chow pickles with sand, but none of his 8 daughters would dare to make a single noise, we would look into each other eyes smiling silently, next time make sure we wash those pickles ourselves before cooking instead of letting old mom to do it!

We treasure his vitality at this old 80+ age who would plant vegetables, harvest and pickle his ang chow chow chai. "Yummy!" That's what we would tell him.

You can use bitter taste green vegetables like mustard or another mustard family Asian radish (daikon) leaves.

Wash and clean the vegetables, cut into half, hanged them under the sun for a day.

You can use the sea salt to knead the vegetables first before kneading the vegetables with ang chow

Another secret I teach you here:

Add in a spoonful of cooked rice, knead the whole thing again, OK this is not taught by my dad!

Preferable to store in a glass container, leave it in the refrigerator for three months before you want to use it to cook ang chow chai fung ngang!

AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH!

Failure of our religious teaching and education system causing excessive criminal cases and school disciplinary problems???

My neighbor got posted to work in the north, after two months of absence, upon her first returning night already attracted theft, we were simply amazed if it was coincident or it was due to an only informant who could see her front gate! It was about 2:00am, there was a thief tried to break open her backyard bedroom window, and she ended up face to face to the thief talking to each others, the thief told her, ‘You owe me money!’

My neighbor replied, ‘If I owe you money you don’t come at 2 in the morning!’

As soon as alarm triggered, I peeked through the window I called out loud, ‘*^%$#, are you alright?’

Immediately I saw a man with blue T-shirt ran and escaped to the front yard, soon my neighbor’s whole house blackout! I could sense something bad, then I saw a man with motorbike left the street, I called the police, and they finally arrived 10 minutes later before we both dared to come out our house. The police told us, ‘There was another break-in not too far from here just now!’

We found the thief disconnected the electric circuit connection, and there was a very large queen-size rubber blanket left on the floor. We suspected there was not just a thief, but a group of thieves. Later my friend told me the rubber blanket was usually used by the thief to muffle the nose of broken grass-window or door. And the same morning in my neighborhood there was a hotel manager’s house got broke in at 7:30 and robbed him under armed.

After election, I noticed the increased crime rate from the daily newspapers and also my neighborhood has becoming increasing unsafe to live, since I fixed the laser beams and CCTV for the house compound, it had triggered alarm for few times already.

Whenever I just walked across the street to visit one of my neighbors, I would bring along a bloom. I really pity the police spent a lot of time working very hard to catch the thieves and robbers with little salary paid, but soon those criminal after bailed were free on the streets, then when the judging day came, there was not a trace of the thief or robber appeared on the court house, hence case temporary postponed.

This happened three years ago to my husband’s car when the thieves tried to steal his car about 10am in front of a busy shopping complex, some responsible citizens called the police to catch the car thieves. But let me tell you, with all these hassles: Public who reported police, CID efforts, car repairing money, times spent waiting, in and out of police stations and court house all gone to drain…. Because it has again become one of the many HANGING CRIMINAL CASES in Malaysia!

Since then for three years has passed, but we never heard any news to ask us attending the court house anymore! I support Malaysian government to change to criminal laws to as strict as Singapore, to seek Singapore as a role model in dealing civil criminals.

I HATE to see Malaysian government spends the time to chase after political criminals but let loose those robbers, thieves and con-men. Because this kind of civil cases would never touch the nerves of Malaysian politicians who are surrounded by 24 hours body guards and security guards! I just hope these politicians can grow more sensitive towards this serious civil crime problem in Malaysia.

How many unsuccessful breaking cases were not reported to police but civilians still have to pay for the repairing? The truth is: There are many cases happened, once my friend got robbed in an oil company car park, she went to police to report, they asked her if she didn’t lose her IC and license then didn’t need to file the case because they didn’t want to get scolded by the politicians!

Now talking about school education, my son was an angel when he was young, and then he was still quite an angel in primary 1, but gradually I could see the devilish state shadow increased with his age. At first few years he would often return home from school with bruised or bled arms, knees and back. I was told by a school teacher not to contact whoever did that to my son, because since it was happened in school I should not get involved.

Fine, it sounded fair to me, but when this happened too frequently, I eventually decided to send my son for kung fu lessons, but he has no penchant for it, after two years his standard is still staying like a beginner. In short, my son is not a stereo-type bright boy. However when I sent my kids through excellent “MAS children delivery service” to my sister during school holiday to attend a church holiday children camp, the teachers there concluded he is a genius, but my sister complaint to me, ‘But your son doesn’t know what is called right and wrong! You didn’t teach him that!’

I replied her, ‘If you said he was not behaving but why his younger sister whom I even spent less time to teach her would behave?’

I believe if I have some hens in my house, I will not be surprised to see my son hatching the eggs for the hens! And nobody knew that I almost did that when I was young, except the hen was so fierce that its beak injured my hands to bar me from approaching its nest!

But what’s the use of a genius if he is not educated under a right system, it is like a tiger appearing on a concrete forest where dogs reigned, all those dogs would think this tiger is a sick or sleepy little kitten!

My son is top student in class but counting from the populated class highest numerical number, but I still give him my praise because he could barely speak Chinese and write it when he attended primary 1, he never made a single noise of complaint that he didn’t want to study Chinese, he absorbed everything he learned subconsciously and even now he is still in strong subconscious realm whereas the rest of his male and female classmates would act almost like a little adult already, my friend would tell me after she talked to my 8 years old girl, ‘She doesn’t talk to me like a child but like an adult!’

Hmmm….. no fun, I still prefer to talk to my son, he is coming to 11 but with still a cuddly 5 years old brain when he was in his “angelic state”! You know that’s why those elder female school teachers and I wouldn’t give him a cane whenever he was very naughty, and gradually a monster is being fostered, because everyone believes in “love education with no canning” and also if I give him a can if anyone in the family knew it I would be considered as a bipolar unfortunately!

My son is sure not a good old boy anymore, invisible and adjustable horns and tail have grown on his body after he attends primary school, when his “devil state” emerged he could turn into an animal but luckily not a cunning and sly devil like some of his classmates yet. My son would turn into “angelic state” but like a 5 years old kid, he would walk to the front of the church when pastor was still preaching. My son is definitely abnormal because he is 10 already, and he still lives in a very strong sense world of subconscious realm!

Last Friday, I received a call from my son’s discipline teacher informing me that my son bit his classmate until he bled. She wanted to see me, I turned down the meeting, I told her, ‘If the fight happened in school, I think the matter should be solved in school, as I was not on scene I was not a witness.’ The main reason I turned her down was few years ago when my son was often continuously bullied by a group of A class students or pushed by some big sizes classmates (my son is the second shortest boy in class), the matter was resolved in school.

Those classmates were my son’s “street-wise class” masters, my son learned to fight since then, however one of the worst one was “advised to transfer” to a private school (I overheard the classmates’ gossip). Now whenever my son met him in Kopitiam they are still “long time no see” kind of friends and at least I would be in talking term with his mother.

I didn’t like the idea when system of rules and regulations were based on people’s mouth subjected to change whenever it faced a threat, it really confuses me. My son always returned home with blood bled knees and I was told the school would handle the cases, now when my son bit his classmate until bleeding, then when I called Sarawak Education Department for advice, they would tell me that parents should meet for reconciliation, the education officer would tell me that’s the good intention of the discipline teacher!

I am not an unreasonable kind of person, if my son beat his classmate until his bone was broken, sure I would be showed up the scene responsible for the medical fees and the parents sure would receive my sincere apology, but of course after the incident I warned my son if he bites people, anytime he will be under the risk of getting AIDS and HepB!

My old folks who are both veteran educators, they are well over 80s now, they told me whenever cousins or friends’ kids got together playing but got involved in fights, any adult or parent should not get involved unless serious injuries happened. Usually at the end kids befriended with each other soon but the parents were still quarrelling and carried grudges until they went to coffin! Wise parents who invited a group of kids in the house playing would first issue and state very clear of their “precaution, safety and YES and NO rules and regulations” of the house until all kids understood that if they violated the peace and happy hours then next time he or she won’t be welcome to for the gathering and party anymore.

In school, when kids could involve in beating and biting under the nose of teachers, so whose mistake was that? I received a facebook on Friday, it was from the boy’s day care center’s teacher, she wrote to me this way:

‘hi.. mdm,sorry 2 say yah... just now i saw $$$$ (my son) biten at students hand... quit serious oso... small but look so painful hehe’

Then on Monday, I saw the message I replied her this way:

‘What had happened? He (my son) told his dad that the boy punched his eye, true?’

‘I mean what had happened before $$$$ (my son) gave the boy a bad bite? The parents asked the discipline teacher why we never apologize. I didn't even know who was the student and the parents and I neither have their hp no. I asked the discipline teacher to punish $$$$ (my son), as it was happened in school. When AAAA beat up $$$$ few years ago they told me that parents shouldn't involve in school matter when kids fought in school.’

On Tuesday, the day care teacher replied me:

‘actualy like this...bfore that boy go n box his eye...$$$$ (my son) go n bite that boy..that boy named TTTT, $$$$ go n take TTTT Marker...so TTTT Ask 4 it...ask $$$$ 2 gave back but $$$$ don't want....so...That TTTT take back his marker...Suddenly...$$$$ go n bite TTTT..Then...TTTT Box his eye..that is the story... until 2day still got the wound..’

Then this tiger-mother became defensive towards the day-care center teacher’s obvious favor towards her student:

‘I got the news from the discipline teacher it was $$$$ (my son) got beaten first on the eye by the boy (TTTT) before he bit the boy, who is this student and who told you twisted this? Who is this TTTT, who is the parents? Who was the person who twisted the whole thing and told you differently? And if anyone asked you who am I, please don't reveal (Please don’t disclose my information without my concern) I don't like this thing happened, he is the monitor and obviously everyone sided him now I could tell from the incident, and everyone just pointed fingers at $$$$ (my son) said he was wrong, I wonder why he bit the boy so hard if he was not being irritated.’

‘Hmm... Obviously this boy is in your day care after school. Were you there on scene during the fight? And your version of story was NOT the same according what the discipline teacher reported back to me and my husband.’

‘Obviously you only listened to one side of the story, I know $$$$ (my son) is not good in study which gives most Kuching people/teachers/classmates a view that he would perhaps end up as a nobody in the future, but the other boy who is much more mature, with leadership quality, (I heard discipline teacher said he is a monitor) brighter and very good in study, most people would choose to befriend him and believe his information was fully correct also as his biting injury (done by $$$$) was quite severe.

'Besides from the discipline teacher, I also heard from few resources of what had happened. There was a competition in class, and there were two groups, the monitor's group was winning, and $$$$ started to snap the marker pen from him, and the fist fights began from there, (obviously it was one person against a group) I heard two person shirts were tainted by the marker done by $$$$ during the fight, and also one of their spectacle was out of shape, then the fist fight proceeded to outside the class, it happened that a teacher passed by, separated them from fighting, $$$$ was still not happy, so he suddenly gave a DOG bite on the monitor. About if the monitor only punched $$$$’s eyes after $$$$ bit him, then the teacher could have seemed it with the rest of the classmates who witnessed the fight and they could have tell me that, but I was told $$$$'s eye was punch (from my point of view, most likely they punched my son’s eye due to the fists fight amongst boys caused one of their spectacle bent) and he was very painful, that's why he gave a bite on the boy ... imagine the teacher had already separated them, but $$$$ still bit the monitor in front of the teacher, this was from another resource.

'You can ask JJJJ who goes the same day care center of yours, I know may be you are pitying the boy now and probably close to his mom, $$$$ (my son) is not decent either, and he becomes naughty too, but the truth is the truth, he is bad, but should not be further on blackened by the untruth.’

Then the day care teacher replied:

Finally I wrote again to her:

‘He (TTTT) is obviously telling lies to you, I didn't trust my son, when incident happened I asked everyone including you, but never asked my son, but only your version is so different from what I heard, obviously being twisted by whoever told you, that person let me tell you he was not telling you the truth, if the boy who got injured by the bite, he is so young and bright, but very obviously not honest, sly and cunning, and yet if any teacher chose to believe the boy's lies, that's why in our society smart kids are prompt to commit outlaw offense (when they grow up), as they were trained since young by adults to become a compulsive liar to get their ways (To show adult they are the innocent and good ones).

Things happened on Friday, my husband and I thought the matter has already solved in school. But the discipline teacher called on Monday during siesta hour to my husband again, she told us the parents of the boy (whom my son bit) wondered why we never called and apologized to them. Apologize to them? My husband got angry, he told her, ‘He punched on my son’s eye first before my son bit him, my son said he was very painful that’s why he bit the classmate. The classmate was the one who “moved his fist first”,according to law, who showed the fist first who was wrong!’ Then the discipline teacher wanted to give the classmate’s parent hp to him, he refused to take, ‘You give my hp to them, you can ask them to call me if they want.’

Then the discipline teacher called me again on next day:

‘Hey, have you call the boy’s parents, have you solve the problem?’

I was quite annoyed when I heard this, so I replied her, ‘I don’t even have my son’s monitor parent hp, I neither know who is the classmate nor knowing who is his parents, how could I contact them? (I am not interested to get involved) I told you already this thing happened in school right under teacher’s nose, it has to be solved in school, if this thing happened in my house, I sure will apologize due to my failure as a hostess to cause such incident!’

‘Okay Okay…. I will tell the monitor’s mother, she also doesn’t like the incident drag on; she thinks this was kids matter.’ I could tell who was the smarter person within these two persons and I could tell who wanted to see the apologize show and manipulated the apologize scene.

To play an old dog like me? I taught students since barely 15, there was not a single history of a student fought under my nose but even up to these days I have students still telling me how much they missed their times under my teaching and I am truly from a third generation educator’s family, my husband and I could smell snobbishness in the whole affair, and I think she chose a wrong person to dally! In short what kind of school discipline teacher would produce what kind of school!

By the way, this will be the last semester for my son to train under this kind of Chinese education system, my husband and I decide to let the “sick or sleepy kitten” putting back to his original forest!

Lastly, tell you honestly, that was me who taught my son to retaliate when his classmates bullied him all because I told him, ‘I don’t want to hear any complain from you being bullied in school and returned home with those injuries and cries, things happened in school, you solved it yourself, don’t bring home, even better if you don’t bring homework back! That’s why I send you for kung fu lessons so that you learn to defense yourself!’

But started from last few days, my version of lecture changes to the sleepy kitten, ‘Try to avoid and involve in any fighting in school, you are the last in class, nobody wants to be your friend, so please get real, nobody would trust your word (negative teaching now) when they gave a pinch to create a bruise at your butt but people would only see your fist and bite in front of your classmate’s face and arm! You go to school is to study not fighting and playing politics, since your tuition teacher has just left to further her study, so please finish your homework in school during recess, the best don’t bring homework home, don’t act funny to create attention!’

It is not easy to handle my weird son, he would take off his shirt under the hot sun right after school, most classmates would yell at him:

‘ EEEE變態 (abnormal)’

‘EEEEE…GAY!’

‘EEEE….. $#%^&(( (some 4 letter words) swore on him.

Anyhow he didn’t care, but his sister would tell me everything what she heard.

But there was an only very smart English teacher, she just said one word and he would put back his shirt immediately:

‘Boy, the sunlight could burn your skin if you take off your shirt!’

ANGRY MOMMY ON MOTHER’S DAY!

I just feel my heart wringing sadly and feeling injured today…….

I realized my son is already 10, but for past 10 years during mother’s day, I received nothing during past 10 mother’s day from the person who pestered me (including his doctor brother did that, he said women after 38 would be difficult to conceive babies) to become a mother.

I only have such awakening when I moved to meow city when I mixed with those "professional tai tai", then I began to believe in one’s fate more than Jesus could do with my life, because I realized no matter how I prayed to Jesus to bless me a good husband, I ended up just like those feng shui guru foretold me, “You will have a husband who won’t love you a lot, but just so so…”

Just listened to those tai tai of what they received during mother’s day from their husbands, I wouldn't get jealous, but the first thought came to my mind was I would sigh of how thoughtless was my husband. These women would tell me usually they received the most expensive gifts during mother’s day and their birthday. I would realize how unfair is this world when one fate’s is based on the time of your birth, your star and palm lines, obviously God made the constellation to designate our individual fates too, and then designated the feng shui guru to foretell us our fates!

How true? There is a Datin that I know of, this Datin dresses up humble, she doesn’t have an air of a Datin, actually her younger sister looks a lot prettier and could dress-up better than her, but the minute they approached a very famous feng shui guru in Sibu town, the feng shui guru without even looking at her palm would tell her, “You will never have problem over spending money, you have plentiful of money, but your sister won’t have the good fate like you.” True enough, just a few years later the Datin became a Datin, but her younger sister’s husband had an affair, mistreated her badly, she has to work as a clerk to support herself and her children. Then there is another lady friend of mine also went to see a feng shui guru before she was married, her good fate was so good that feng shui guru even wanted to introduce his own son to her. True enough my friend’s husband do very well nowadays and treat her very well too.

Actually ladies could escape bad fate if they truly believe in fate, like my case I didn’t believe it, now I regret it badly.These days I would interpret it this way: Not all ladies have such fate to be married and have good husband and obedient kids, if you don’t have such designated good marriage fate, that’s mean you shouldn’t get married, usually you would find no man was interested on you even you could be very pretty and very succcessful in your career. Or those men you met would give you all sort of difficult time or even abused you.

So why you have to follow what other women did and submitted to their bad gossips? I bet some of those stupid women even if they had bad marriages they would still want you to get married. BUT if you remain as a single you will be self-satisfied, no so worry and happy.

There are two kinds of nasty husbands who never give any appreciation "in actions" to their wives: First kind is the cash-poor husband, but because he is a very proud person, he will act very mean to his wife if she mentioned to him about mother’s day celebration, he would tell her, “You have to wait for your kids to grow older to celebrate for you! I will go to celebrate for my mother!” Two years in a roll, these words came out from my husband’s mouth. Another kind of cash-poor husband, but not so mean, would tell his wife, “I love you with my heart, why have to celebrate?” Both of these men’s wives would never receive any appreciation as a mother throughout their whole lives, all because they were poor and stingy. Only when these women's children grow older, perhaps they could make their poor mothers smile by then!

Some lucky women live without realizing how unfortunate other women live, they always thought that it was due to the faults of those ladies didn’t treat their husband nicely, kindly and lovingly, that’s why their husbands didn’t treat them nice in return, they childishly thought “give and take” would work on all men!

Sometimes those lucky women could be quite mean to bad fate women; they thought that when a bad fates woman complains to them about her husband, they might even guess that she was interested to look for another husband …. They would think she wanted to replace her useless husband for a better and richer one. In some occasions, those lucky women could be quite mean, they would introduce a divorced man to the bad marriage fate's lady and asked her if she was interested in him, ended later when they heard the man insulted her as an “aunty”, were they satisfied of their mean act? Actually they all "made fun", played the poor woman up! So bad marriage fate women have to be very careful of who are their listeners!

In this world there are full of people or women are not being treated well and equally. I could earn much more than what my husband could give me, yet I was convinced by my husband to quit my good job just because he didn’t want to fly or drive a long way to see me in the north, another good excuse he told me because he didn’t like to see me bringing the kids flying here and there, but the kids actually enjoying a career mom more than a jobless mom, their hearts could feel how hurt, nervous and injured as I am.

Actually these days I hate festivals, birthday, mother’s day or wedding dinners, when I opened my closet, I looked at all those old faded clothes and accessories, it would also hint me that my husband doesn’t love me enough, and worst when I found I was fooled in many things when an old aging short man wanted to convince a girl ( I was tall and not ugly ok!) married him! If you say I am materialistic then it is also very unfair to me, do you think a relationship can last when there are just few good words and good things, but the marriage already lasted for 10 years, I can tolerate and accept my own bad fate and own wrong decision in life, buried my past 10 years in jail – family jail. Give and take? It's a bullshit to me!

So young ladies, if you can’t find a good man in life, don’t rush for it, and if you reach over 30 and still not finding any good man, just forget about to become a mother. Go on your life, save enough money touring around the world, or else if you get married badly to a chauvinistic stingy man no matter how rich, he would lock in a cocoon, you will end up like me, there will be no trip, no freedom and no good luxury kind of lifestyle. You would be in his "random kindness" free disposal!

Do you know that when a man reaches his 35+ he will look down at those ladies who are over 30 years old, his friends, his family members and himself will together “play”(make fun) you up if you express an interest in him? He will “hang up” himself to sell, but he didn’t know that those younger girls that he was interested to marry of amongst one of them would actually call him as “UNCLE!”

HOW FREE ARE MALAYSIAN-HOUSEWIVES?

In Australia they call housewives as homemakers….

I worked since 15 years old, working part-time became my habit since form 2 to including studied all over universities in different countries. Then when I graduated to earn my degree, immediately I commenced my full-booming work!

To quit my job acting as a housewife was my dream, it was not because I thought becoming a housewife would be freer, to “make unfair remarks on other housewives” or “acting on behalf of other housewives’ minds” was and is not my interest, it actually didn’t come to my busy mind.

Only these days I realized most full-time housewives actually were subjected under long-term emotional battered of being not financially independent, thus they were controlled under the thumb of their chauvinistic husbands.

Smart women would keep encouraging and aiming their daughters grow up to become professionals but stupid women would abuse their own daughters, only put their concentration on sons. Actually it is more important to educate daughters for higher studies than sons when you have chauvinistic husbands-in-residence! Those inheritances would go to your sons not your daughters, if you are a smart woman then trying to squeeze as much money from your daughter’s dad to send your daughter to college, that would actually path her a good future and in return, earn you worried-free next half life, especially if she turns into a doctor. Even if she got divorce, she wouldn’t return home asking you “old mom” to feed her and her kids!

I experienced such “comedy episode” of a proud housewife-mommy recently, I called my long-lost contact student’s mother asked her where about was her daughter, she proudly told me, ‘She is a doctor now, she just passed her GP, do you know what is GP?’ Then I patiently let her explained the term GP to me, I was simply amused.

I would advise all housewives, even though you didn’t get any chance to attend higher education after your secondary school studies, but you must READ profoundly, or else one day when your daughter becomes a doctor you would think the rest of women were ignorant (like you) except your daughter now is “highly educated.”

Unluckily I also “bounced” into another kind of “ghost-like” devil-mom who never likes to read, not even newspapers! She would treat any of her child’s classmates or teachers as a future imaginary enemy.

This kind of devil-moms got high ego to train their “as highly ego talented kids” to become somebody famous, they became "notorious" as they always would defame their kids' “potential rivals”, they would do something ingratitude to their imaginary enemies, usually the little child of theirs would act quicker than the hypocrite mother, he/she would soon “unfriend” his/her teacher, while the hypocrite mom still keeps “acting polite” to their kid's teacher.

I began to notice a young part-time students of mine (came lessons with me for only three times) particularly due to her most ingratitude behavior (in my entire teaching life), I discovered she "unfriended" me when I wanted to send some documents to help her via her facebook, then I only found that out since when, I really have no idea she had already "unfriended" me in her facebook, I wouldn’t have mind if she has 100 friends if she "unfriended" me, but she has more than 500 friends, and yet she would "unfriend" me!

I later learned that both her mom and the little daughter of hers didn’t like my corrections or making any other suggestions. As a teacher if I kept giving positive comments but without making any correction on students' problems then why I have to teach? I also noticed this kind of mothers when they have a quite talented kid they began to act bossy, they would flatter how talented their kids to even a stranger but wouldn’t allow any criticism from any people/teacher, or else they would immediately defame and fire that person/teacher, yet in front of those teachers they would say act how appreciate and grateful! Why you think a child who was only 12 could do that to her teacher while her mom would continuously calling her daughter’s teacher pretentiously flattering her!!!???

My thought of quitting my job after I got married was because I thought since I was getting so old to get married to have babies, I should quit my job. As during my working three decades as a teacher I could see those little “monsters” could turn into “angels” the minute they saw their professional doctor or lawyer moms arrived my doorsteps, ‘Hey mom!’ The sweetest angelic voices resonance in my ears up to these days!

Soon their mom would bring them enjoying nicest dinner and shopping to buy newest toys in town, I could tell those BUSY professional mommies were feeling guilty (remember it only happened to those very busy professional moms, once happened to me too) that their children were often neglected, so often by using material things to comfort and tame the “monsters” they felt it was fair to both kids and themselves too!

This was just life, nothing went wrong, thanks god that all these kids after two decades now they still became lawyers or doctors like their moms! These kids grow-up still as lovely, they still would visit me whenever they came to Meow city. I think these kids with professional mothers never would treat me as a “role-model or future rival” to challenge their undertakings, their own professional mother would be their role model … They wouldn't act like other kids to make sure one day when they graduated from college, they would earn more money, dress up prettier, buy better branded things, cook better, eat better, have better professions than once their respected role model or once their challenged imaginary future rival.

Good gratitude kids who grow older would usually appreciate my encouragements and my “cherish” extended to them, in short, I expected them to do better than me like I wish at my daguhter. These kids were the ones who would still look up for me even they have become professionals but those ingratitude ones would pose the altitude, "HEHEHEHEE... NOW I AM BETTER THAN YOU! I WON!"

Mr. Money agreed that I could quit my job, now I only realized he had to agree or else I wouldn’t have married him and have his babies, that’s one of his hook and the “crooks” revealed when the household expenses came to me almost the end of some months and when his brother’s wife came to visit me told me how much debt he owes his family members.

When I quitted my job, a Datin would even admire my “free-from-job" new status, she would often “check” my "jobless tai tai lifestyle" from my parents, ‘She has good life without working!’ she mentioned it often to my parents.

Until one day my mom retaliated, ‘Jobless but still with pocket full of money, only a woman like you will have good life!’ This Datin actually acts humble like any other Malaysian-housewives when she stays in the oil city, she didn’t have any maid but have to cook meals for her family, so she probably thought that I would act like her other friends... tai tai with two or three maids in the house helping or her "real Datin's lifestyle" in Beijing or KL!

This is my monotonous lifestyle after I become a housewife, see if you want to quit your good job after being married to a man!!! (Remember, don't quit unless you only earn RM1000/month but he can produce you RM10,000/month. If you earn RM10,000++ but he could only give you RM5000, then you should never quit your job!)

I got up at 5:45am, immediately I have to prepare breakfast for next thirty minutes (Thanks God that I have fast dexterities), to prepare my children’s breakfast, packed their refreshment boxes and filled up their water bottles. Then I would take a quick shower, changed and put up make-up (remember there are not many natural beauties but there are many lazy women!), by 6:30-45am, we are on the road. By the time reached home it would be around 7:15am, immediately I collected my newspaper, put the dirty clothes in the laundry, eat my breakfast while reading newspaper, once done I have to wash dishes, clean the house (only pick a place to clean in a day), then I have to water the plants in the garden, soon I have to hang out the clothes under the sun. By the time I would be sweat all over, when I turn on the air condition to sit on the desk starting my writing, I found out it’s coming to 10 soon, my pretty “assistant” from next street comes, she helps me to correct grammar of my written books (not these blog articles), next two hours we both don’t want to be disturbed, but soon my alarm service man, plumber, pest control or electrician would hop in some of the mornings.

Breakfast out with friends? I really don’t like it, because it means my household works will be delayed, and something would not be done. Telephone calls from friends to gossip? I also don’t like it, because I would talk to my friend, then suddenly I had forgotten what I told her the previous sentence when I saw the dirty floor accidentally! By 1:00pm, like most mothers I have to go picked up my children.

I will continue my story to let those idly but financially sounded career women or housewives who think on my behalf that I must be very free , I will soon let them know what I would do in the afternoon and evening before I went to sleep!

Never ever make mean remarks to other housewives who battered by their husbands financially, especially if those ladies don’t even have a maid at home or even a husband present at home 3 days in a month! Worst, their kids are still young, who can’t help their mommy even to vacuum the floor yet!

AVENGERS IN ACTION II

Chinamen did it in disguise for win-win situation!

There was another nasty avenger true story happened here in Sarawak. About 10 years ago, a Miss S got married at old age too to an engineer, only after marrying her husband for 10 years she realized she was just a piece of chess in a chess set manipulated by an avenger. He caused her lost her successful career, actually he cheated her that he was very successful in his business, he would tell her off that her whole year salary was not even as much as his monthly income.

Miss S’s husband actually was interested to pursue after Miss S’s secondary school classmate who is a medical specialist.

The same old story of how a stranger bachelor man with his friend knocking at a single professional’s door with the ice-breaker, ‘Your uncle is my good friend!’ However, the doctor was not interested at all with the man; she didn’t entertain him at all even he made long-distance calls to her house.

What she didn’t know that was he actually got angry in disguise and silent, he began to check out her background, very soon he began to target her classmate, one of her best friends, Miss S. However, Miss S was not an easy person to reach too, so he arranged through his classmates as they were Miss S sisters’ secondary school form-mates. From there he craftily reached Miss S, learned her weakness as a high-age single lady being pestered to get married off by her sibbling and parents, and he also proposed to her in such a short time, without letting Miss S having any chance to think twice, to regret or to change her decision.

Few similar facts of all these avengers: They are mostly not coming from good family background and their parents are usually illiterate and poor. Yet they accepted higher education thus become professionals like either a lawyer or engineer, YET as they are not brilliant and thus not the high income professionals, they have low self-esteem, self-pride and confidence, they felt the need of a higher standing wife to boost them, like the Avenger in Action 1 mentioned, usually these men are crafty but not very clever, they are smooth talkers and advantage seekers.

To hook a professional outstanding lady thus they acted as a good listener temporary, but the minute they got married to their “prey”, they changed their true color very soon, they didn’t even let their professional wives expressed their views anymone, “Women should not talk!” soon progress to "Women should not go out to work" ----- a typical Chinaman and abusing character has just began to emerge!

In order to revenge the rejection from a targeted professional lady, if the professional lady was not a pretty girl, the avenger would sure either pursue for her prettier immediate associate, e.g. her colleague, ex-classmate or friend.

Or if the professional lady was not coming from a prominent family background, the avenger would “hunt” for a better background lady deliberately. But usually only the victim directly dealing and marrying to the avenger would be getting into deep shit, not the professional lady or e.g. not that medical specialist who rejected the engineer flat.

So it is always wiser not to get friendly or having anything to do with a newly-met man, even you are not interested on him, but don’t act over kindly and friendly to become his match-maker, in turn he may hurt you and the girl that you tried to match him.

Stay away from the newly-met man; if he insisted on chasing after you, you have to check professionally and family bacground-wise if you are “married down”! Never ever married down to any Chinaman (Please note that in my definition of "Chinaman" didn't mean the general Chinese man, but the chauvinistic kind of selfish, crafty and mean Chinese man) mediocre professional, or else you sure will suffer later!

Also check if he knows any of your friends or even sister, before you want to date him out, please check if he ever tried to chase after anyone of them.

Very often when a man couldn’t get one of the sibling, he would chase another one, usually the one who is prettier, smarter or more able (the main rival to her sibling).

Single professional ladies, you have to be extra careful if one day a stranger with his relative or friend suddenly visited you in your house or your office, you kindly opened your door to “let them in” just because they claimed they knew one of your classmates, friends, siblings, parents or cousins.

Have you ever thought why a stranger shown up right at your doorsteps? Did they have an ultimate motive?

Let me share with you a true story happened right here in Sarawak state about 15 years ago:

Once a professional called Miss S didn’t know such stranger’s motive only after the following incident happened:

One day, a lawyer showed up at Miss S doorstep introduced himself that he knew Miss S’s younger sister and Miss S’s church friends.

Soon, Miss S kindly introduced him her staff, a Tan Seri’s niece, Miss S thought happily that they would be a good match. But soon not long after, Miss S heard that this lawyer got engaged to a pharmacist who was at least 8 years older than him, and at the same time he still dated Miss S ‘s staff out while he already got engaged, only the engagement news not yet published in the newspapers.

After Miss S found that out, immediately she looked up for her staff, and she found out her staff also just heard the news too, they were so angry and both felt being betrayed by the lawyer. As an unsuccessful match-maker, Miss S felt she had hurt not just her staff badly but also her staff’s parents as well.

Such bloody lawyer after he met the pharmacist, they got engaged and married within a very short month.

Miss S was in awe and soon she began to realize what went wrong, she noticed the lawyer didn’t mind the pharmacist who was a lot older than him and she was a lot more famous than him.

Miss S came out an analysis:

Initially, the bloody lawyer and his brother-in-law came respectively visiting her expressed their friendship to her…. The ultimate motive was actually targeting her. What the lawyer didn’t expect was when Miss S didn’t show her single bit interest on him (In short, Miss S showed no interest in a younger man) thus she kindly introduced her staff to him.

Diplomatically he accepted Miss S’s arrangement and dated Miss S’s staff out, but he actually disguised his madness silently waiting for just a chance to revenge, he probably felt that Miss S looked down at him, he felt he lost his pride and face, thus he wanted to revenge, for win-win situation he wanted to hurt both Miss S and her staff by marrying someone whom he thought was richer, more able, more famous or better than Miss S, as for Miss S’s staff he would use her to entertain himself to pass time.

His revenge began when he moved out of the oil town to the cat city; he finally got his chance to meet an older lady in a church that he thought would par up with Miss S.

Their marriage actually stunned everyone due to their age differences and it happened in such short a short time, and his wife’s career was much more successful than him and she was also much more famous than him!

So how happy was their marriage? Miss S heard someone told her that his wife’s father complaint that he was the most useless son-in-law amongst all his sons-in-law. 10 over years later Miss S saw him again in a book store with two little ugly girls, they probably inherited their mom’s look, he was so inpatient with them, ugly girls could be cute and good karma aura could be fostered with loving parents, but with this kind of avenger, calculative sleazy father, these little girls probably would never receive enough love and cherish from him. Miss S also pitied his older wife; did she ever find out what her husband did to Miss S and Miss S’s staff? Did she know that she was just a piece in his chess set game?

I guess for sure the lawyer’s older-age wife didn’t have any idea, or probably he would make up a story to her that Miss S and Miss S’s staff were both chasing after him franticly that’s why he ended up moving to cat city!

Chinaman-avengers usually are great stories-makers, compulsive liars, good in disguise and very crafty, they will never become a good husband and father, in short they are very selfish, using their wives like a tool and slave, and they are not good in managing their business too, as they are actually not the very clever kind of men, but just good in cheating at unattained richer or more prominet ladies or else they wouldn't have to depend on a much more outstanding wife to give them laurels! That’s why the lawyer wanted the engagement and marriage happened as quickly as possible because I think deep in his heart he feared that Miss S or his girlfriend would reveal the truth to his wife.

A meal with Burmese salad and Daun Kesom spring rolls

A few months ago I learned that green unripe papaya is one of the natural remedies to cure cancer, but my excuse is my body’s cancer cells has not pinched me down yet, I not gonna forcing myself drinking green papaya juice like those poor malaria patients.

On January, I was juicing green papaya and air flown it for my malaria infested ex-cancer-patient sister in Singapore, I wondered how could Singapore, such a clean country, her residents suffered from Malaria, and then I was told, ‘Indonesians brought it!’ Hmmmm……….

My Burmese neighbor heard that I wanted to do something with my green unripe papaya on my papaya trees (Last year end, I chopped two, died one and I only have a tree remained) immediately she offered to prepare and let me tried her Burmese salad.

My Burmese neighbor is from a very prominent Burmese family and she develops very good taste buds for gourmet foods and her green papaya salad prepared for me was much more refined and tastier than any green papaya salads I tried before.

Of course after that from time to time I innovated it in different ways, anyhow she always likes my innovative ways especially after a day of hard work, she never complaint anything I ever cooked for her!

Burmese Salad, a special thank to my Burmese neighbor who taught me how to prepare this dish.

Ingredients

Quarter unripe big green papaya, peel off skin, shredded the papaya (big or small up to one's preference)

One potatoes, cut into thin small pieces, boil

Vermicelli, soak then boil

Give both of them a cold bath

Half big onion cut into rings, deep fried in the oil until brown and crispy, (Optional to add small dried prawns); use both oil (up to one's wish), crispy onion and crispy small dried prawns

Soy bean fried and prepared to grind into fine powder, need two big tablespoons

Cilandro leaves for garnishing

A lemon

Two spoons (use big serving spoon) of fish sauce

Mix all of them together, can mash the potatoes slightly (opt)

A decade ago, nobody wanted to buy my current house, and I heard it that it was vacant for 8 years by a big takau before my little family moved in.
Initially I got to dust the long vacant house like 5 times a day, I always wondered if any Kuching folks gossiped that my long vacant house got antu or not! Even if it got some before, but I think once my two noisy “monkeys” moving in with their virago-mom, the high decibels could close the access gaps of 11th dimension to our earthy realm!

Soon my visitors saying they regretted they didn’t buy it, all because they hesitated to see the house which only got two bedrooms, in their midst of hesitating they also not realizing Kuching property in good areas were kept rising every year, my house now has most probably raised for a double since we first moved in 5 years ago.

Many poor housewives would understand what I am talking: After purchased a house, even you have the shell you won’t have an interior. I was left penniless to decorate my house by Mr. Money, but luckily I still carried my long distance career and business initially for a year before I sold them off. Sarcastically enough I once got such optimistic opinion planned to act my role as a full time happy housewife!

Initially when I moved in the newly moved-in house, I only had a dustbin; it collected every kind of rubbish!! My friend from another city came to visit me at the same time she brought along a very wealthy businessman’s native wife, I could detect her snub when she couldn’t find a dustbin in the toilet, she didn’t realize not every housewife could afford many dustbins, when I visited her new mansion, I could tell money for her was never a problem, she even has more animal-toilets for her pets than my toilets!

What she looked for was the spiritual peace of how to get to heaven, for me 4 letter foul words always could come out of my mouth in my daily frustrated encountering, the path for gold mine and heaven both look heavenly distance from my current life style!

From my knowledge, only less than 5% of our Malaysian housewives don’t need to worry much about money to buy household accessories when they move in a new house!

Few things you have to bear in mind if you are not a filthy rich housewife but you have a small house that you plan to keep, always remember cozy feel of a house is above all, you make your guests felt welcomed and comfortable in your house, a house is NOT to show off to people of your filthy wealth and how big was your mansion, how nice and expensive your household accessories, your show off actually could make your inferior visitors felt of how insufficient and poor they were.

A house is a place where your respective visitors would respect of your through decades of hard-earning collections but not within a few months time!

A house is also a place, where friends could learn and benefits from an older and wiser host or hostess.

(1) You can afford to wait, even for 4 years like me. Don’t buy inferior furniture, think of hard wood furniture only. You collect the furniture in such a way a piece after another, perhaps only once every 4 months once, up to current date, my living room doesn’t have a sofa set yet!

(2) Don’t look for a modern style home, now is modern how about twenty years later? So think of classic or country style or unless it is a prize-winning architect-designed house. But if you can’t avoid, then be very imaginative and creative to decorate or renovate both its interior and exterior to suit and cater your current living styles, needs and standard.

(3) Learn to match your house, e.g. don’t mix a modern architectural design with country furniture and with elaborated classic style curtains with weird color.

(4) Unless you are super rich and have a big mansion, or else don’t need to waste your space and money for two wet and dry kitchens, this is Malaysia and if you are Chinese-Malaysians who love to cook, then design your outdoor yet “heavy rain-proof” Chinese-Malaysian style kitchen.

(5) Don’t mix family room with living room, for small house you can combine your family room as TV room, library and computer room or even guest room.
(6) Don’t waste your money to decorate children rooms with children theme, unless you are rich and free enough to keep changing theme with them along their growing stages, how about one day if they leave the house and go studying overseas?

(7) Have an enclosed (or partially) car port, where you can make it as an extra storage/tools room.

(8) Decorate your house with characteristic which is feasible and practical for your daily life style, interest and hobbies, but not copying your design here and there from interior design magazines, but where you can always gain tips and inspiration from.
(9) Master bedroom must have a walk-in toilet and shower, drawer, exhaust fan (optional), chest, bedside tables, table lamps, long mirror, wardrobe, standing lamps, fans and (opt. air-condition), blind (or thin curtain) and thick dark curtain, kartini bench, sofa (sleeping sofa, study desk, little table, TV and Video (Optional), mini bar (Optional: Only suggest it if your kitchen is on the ground floor). Use a single plan color bed sheet, quilt cover (silk is better than cotton and down) and pillow cases. Always decorate your bedroom cozier and “tastier” than a hotel room, or else don’t blame your husband and children who prefer hotel stay than at home!

(10) Buy only hardwood beds and good mattress like I would suggest Slumberland brand (You won’t regret, as it is affordable yet comfortable for your back, wait for its promotion)

(11) Buy some vintage/Persian rugs, runners and paintings for floor and wall decorating. I once came across a big mansion, it was decorated with all kinds of expensive accessories but dissappointedly I didn’t find any Persian rugs on the floor nor any painting on the wall!

(12) Lastly, your walls need skirting!

(13) Don’t paint your house too dark, too colorful or too many themes!
(14) Garden needs rare fruit trees, rare flowers, rare herbs and rare vegetables in “rojak-style”.

(15) If affordable always buy a few dehumidifier and ionizer for your house, turn them on especially when you are absented from the house for a long term or during rainy days.

(16) Try to use neutral color theme for your house, don’t ask a man or a boy to stay in a little pinky house.

(17) Don’t abuse yourself as a modern days housewife; buy a dish dryer for daily use and a dishwasher for after party or feast. When I requested my husband for a dishwasher few years ago, he asked me, “Do you open a Chinese restaurant?” and my “China-woman mom” would ask me, “Why so lazy?” Few Chinaman-husbands would help their wives to wash dirty dishes, they also wouldn’t buy dishwasher for you, so I buy it with my own money, because I have not work for more than 4 years now, situation forced and trained into a bargainer, I searched through the whole city and was lucky enough to run into a showroom unit with 50% discount.

(18) Don’t build a wooden kitchen, unless you use hard wood, you always can consider stainless steel and aluminum kitchen. I waited for more than 4 years paying from my own pocket to renovate my kitchen (which was half done by previous owner when I moved in the house).

Be very flexible especially you have limited budget, it was my hard earned money, e.g. I won’t change the 20 over years gas stove and hood left by the previous owner, I didn’t demolished the whole kitchen counter top just because the previous owner half-done kitchen counter top was built lower than standard height, resulted in no dishwasher could fit in. For that reasons I read over many articles from professional chefs and gone through thousands of kitchen photos to look for the best place to fit in my dishwasher in my ultra-small kitchen and to decide a very personalized kitchen for myself, especially I have so many kitchen utensils.

A NEW YEAR GIFT FOR MYSELF WAS TO FIX UP THE UNDONE KITCHEN FROM MY OWN HARD SAVING IN A STRICT BUDGET!

Since day one I moved into this house, for years I used induction stove, thus more than three Kenwood induction stoves were damaged within the 4 years, recently I bought a Empress induction stove from Cosway and a Morgan Halogen stove from Chin Hup Hing, just in case when gas runs out, or when I need to cook Chinese foods I can use them, for more than 4 years I used to cook outside the kitchen porch counter top, initially I couldn't use this kitchen and its stove, until a gas compartment was constructed right outside the kitchen during year end of 2012. Remember you must use a safe lock for your gas tank, buy the Italian brand safe lock which cost something like RM80+, I bought it from Chin Hup Hing 082: 331848

I put cooking pots, woks and pans at the top tier counter where I can see all and within the reach of my height.

The lower tiers are made up of tempered glass, my kitchen contractor told me it's his first case in Kuching.

I didn' t change my 20 years old stove and hood left by the deceased owner, thus I can only do western cooking in this kitchen.

Beside the stove the expensive microwave oven was a gift from my old classmate Au Au and his wife, and after having it for more than 2 years I only learned how to use it partially and found it was excellent to "bake-steam" a successful Christmas turkey! Just recently I bought a conventional fujihome oven which cost a thousand ringgit less than it, but I left it outside the kitchen porch, as I don't want a heat "infested" kitchen when I bake!

My stainless steel kitchen was drawn by CH kitchen designer Ms. Wong

This big jermuda fruit tree chopboard is my island (cost RM40) with bileng hardwood legs (Cost RM100+), it was made by a Taiwan trained chef from Sarikei, the Ikea ladder stood next to it is within my reach to climb up top tier counter top to collect some big pots!

Ever thought of placing the dishwasher next to the washing basins and in the 90 degrees corner? I never found one in the kitchen design magazine!

See the thin curtain? I have them as the mosquitoes netting all over the windows in the house, and cost me less than RM300 (fabric cost less than RM100, elastic wire and seintress cost barely RM100+) for the whole house 13 big, small, long and short windows! It already lasted for more than 4 years now! Could be washed easier than the conventional window netting!

I am very happy with my own idea, first I didn't need to demolish the countertop (with original stainless steel fringe) which is lower than standard kitchen counter top height, secondly the most useless corner in the kitchen now is occupied by it without a space being wasted in this case. Thirdly, my dish basin is next to it, I can drain my dirty plates before loading them to dishwasher for washing. Fourthly, it is next to the cutlery drawer. Lastly, I don't need to bend my back and neither need to raise my head up when loading and unloading my dirty or cleaned dishes!

My cutlery set tray drawer, CH Kitchen Mr. Ling tried to find one fitted into the stainless steel drawer exactly and I also like the color he chose for it.

These were my older accessories collected one after another since many years back from an oil town, the regular teak wood console table I bought it in Kuching from Casa Reka, but I converted it, see those pans I hanged under it? Inside the drawer I store those aluminium, plastic foils and other extra accessories. See the dish dryer on its counter top, when I didn't have many plates, I hand washed and dried those plates in there.

If you have an ultra small kitchen, be brave like me, think of something different from stereo type design and ideas! You won't regret! I think if I am not a jobless $ tai tai, I wouldn't have moved my brain in a hard way to save money and get the most out of the money I spent on!

Married A Badly Indebted Chinaman Husband Unknowingly!

Advice for unmarried girls

1. Not ashamed of yourself to find out your future husband’s financial situation, no bank wants to loan its money or issuing a credit card to a badly indebted man. (He would find all sorts of excuses e.g. explaining to you why he didn’t owe a credit card, most of the time he blamed for his own kindness due to extending his help to his “bad friends” who didn’t pay their loans to the bank, thus as a guarantor, he got black listed! This is enough to proof that he is a stupid person! And you are either too stupid or naive if you believed his explanation!)

2. If you are from a better background, don’t get fooled by a trap set up by him, his family members or even his friends, check the credential of a family’s background, when you got married, you also automatically married into his family. To upgrade and change their living standard, conflicts between religion and feudal practices and believes would be really tough!

3. Family background in education, interest, cultivation and religion must be equally standing

4. Most Chinese families abide the laws that would hide everything unpleasant from outsiders; they only said good things about their own family, 家丑不可外杨. Those good things they bragged you should only count for 10% accuracy!

5. If you are from a better family background, including the match-makers would pester the man to sleep with you in order to make you rush into a wedding!

6. Don’t be too sure of your most respected person’s advice, e.g. your dad, he could be a very well known and respected educator, but unbelievably a very naive person regarding how to find a good husband for his daughter, for some fathers, as long as a man got a penis then he is considered as a good man!!

7. Older generation simple minded and lacked exposure naive parents never taught their daughters how to look for a husband, they felt that once they were both poor, thus they wished that their daughters not to get married into a rich family, they worried their daughters would be bullied by rich people, but they never thought the other opposite way could happen too, if their daughters got married to a very poor, less uncultivated and educated family, she could be an item under abused too!

There are two kinds of person that a GOOD MAN should never borrow money from, loan shark or your own sibling, because someone eventually would show to the bad man’s wife asking directly or hinting indirectly that she also owes the responsible to return her naughty husband’s bad debts even it was debts incurred before the marriage!

Stereo type Chinese family has a common problem, when an aging sibling in a family was not married, the family member would pressure him to get married, even he was full of bad debts, the family member would be the culprits to fool the future sister-in-law to fall into the marriage trap, they all thought that after married, the unmarried naughty brother would get settled down, he would become a more responsible man due to his wife's "good" influence.

But when the situation was not success, when old dog doesn't learn new tricks, they would blame his naive wife; soon the creditor-brother’s wife would show up the door-steps of the debtor’s wife pressuring or pursuing after her!

Now imagine this, how about the poor wife learned the husband owes so much bad debt to his siblings only after married him for 10 years? It was happened only after selling off her business like 80% cheap sales and 10 months later only a more humane aging eldest creditor-sibling began to reveal her of what had happened of her husband's bad debts?

Whose fault was that? What did her husband, her husband's siblings and sisters-in-law and mother-in-law did to actually a prominent professional from a city but ended up ruining her hard earned prominent career to beome a jobless tai tai in another strange city just because of her wrong marriage into a wrong family? Who were selfish, self-centered and thoughtless?

Why? A woman could experience heart wrenching ache and depression, when this kind of money affair conflicts between her husband and his family members inflicted her , they dragged her in ..... usually would happen just right before or right on Chinese new year, because it is the time most kinds of money transactions involved, it was the time people need most money to spend for Chinese New Year, and it was the time debtors should return if not whole sum, but at least a portion of debts to their creditors.

When she began to question her husband, he would tell her the same answer all the time, “This is my siblings matter, don’t you dare to involve in it!”

'But then I was forced to get involved?'

'I told you not to tell anyone of my family that we would be going away during Chinese New Year!'

'Yes, I tried to avoid it when your sister-in-law SMS me, but for god sake …. Past 4 years, she never visited me but she showed up our doorsteps with gifts, I thought she was sincere!'

'I told you not to tell anyone of my family that we would be going away …..'

'Now I know why! You owe them so much debt that they want you to return them money not to use their money to enjoy yourself got it?!'

'I told you that are my family matter, you shouldn’t get involved.'

'What’s the intention of your sister-in-law then? I thought that I could trust her when she showed up my doorsteps, so I revealed to her where we would be heading during Chinese New Year, I even told her that she shouldn’t reveal to anyone… it was just between she and me!!!'

'I told you not to tell anyone in my family right? What you did could cause our brothers to have another big fight again' When you and your brothers were ffighting? Shit, you blamed me that I would instigate fights amongst your siblings again?

‘You shouldn’t owe money to your siblings for too long without returning them any dime, you are a bit too much…… they would blame me, they thought you spend money on me when I went for travelling but those money actually were mine and my family’!!! How did I know that I can’t trust your sister-in-law? I thought as a doctor’s wife, she should be a very trustable person like my sister! She thought that you can’t be trusted, as I am your wife, I am also as unreliable as you???!!!! That’s why we are still together! Dammm… you know how hard, how patient, how tolerated I have to maintain this marriage?!’ The frustrated angry wife began to scream. She decided she would never trust her trouble making sister-in-law again, how could her sister-in-law didn’t trust her when she told her they would be heading to G city, and why she deliberately “reconfirmed” with her husband again during a pre Chinese New Year eve family dinner? Her sister-in-law didn’t care if she got scored by her hubby! Her sister-in-law didn’t care the trouble couple would involve a big fight. Creditors are always right! Why God let me unknowingly became a debtor’s wife???!!! God is really unfair to me after I got married!

‘How can you trust a X Msian girl? I told you not to reveal them any of our travelling!’

‘So that include my own and kids’ travelling out of my parents’ pockets, siblings’ pockets or from my own hard savings? Don’t tell me again that’s your problem between you and your siblings ….. or your own family matter, their actions hinted me enough that I have to pay for your bad debts, or else I have to suffer like you too right?! Even go out of Sarawak but we have to creep like a thief?! Shouldn’t let your family members know it!? You were spending on their expense, not me, your sibling and family members actually owe me an apology of why they kept quiet that you were on bad debts before I married you? In short, who was the stupid girl would marry a badly indebted man?’

‘Aye, I am doing business, which businessman on earth don’t owe money to their family members or to the bank? If you keep blowing your trumpet to your friends, how can I do my business anymore? Everyone will know that I am poor, they won’t dare to do business with me!’ Oh yeah… that’s what my Chinawomen mom and sibling advice too, they all like him……. I always like Lee Guan Yew’s words with intellectual excitement, he said China though has so many people yet technology wise still can’t beat USA, due to their differ in thinking, what thinking? Now I know …. Chinamen and "Chinawomen" kind of thinking "lah"!!!! They all treat their husbands, as heaven or demi-god, if a girl didn’t marry to a good man, she becomes a subject to get abused…. My sister-in-law who probably thought that she marries well due to she was smart, and she must think that I was stupid that why I married to a badly indebted man,I better watch out someone has just began to jump over my side of bridge to bully me! But think twice, I am no dub……………even If you are X-Msian I am cosmopolitan! I am just not interested in childish hens’ fight! If I could avoid you next time, I will forever do it!

‘Your sister-in-law is too daring, I am just your wife, she has a rich husband to limp on the minute she married him, But I don’t! But that don’t mean that I am responsible to pay your own bad debts incurred before I married you, I can’t influence your stubborn thought, but neither can you influence my self-pride as once a self-sufficient happy professional career woman! Old dogs don't learn new tricks OK?! Please don't expect me to turn into a "Chinawoman" to pay your bad debts!’

It was like roundtable clock, the argument still back to 12’ O Clock eventually! This kind of Chinaman born into as the youngest in a family were usually spoilt badly by their mom and elderly brothers and sisters, I dub them as siaw bai di “小白弟” who are always keen to take advantage of their elderly family members, If you unknowingly married to one of this kind, their family members soon expected his wife to responsible for his debts too … he thus becomes a siaw bai rien 小白脸(gigolo)!

A LEVEL HIGHER THAN BASTARD-DADDY’S STANDARD!

Recently I met a young man, who completed his study from a meow city private Chinese secondary school and got married young (before 30); after I chatted with him for less than an hour, my hair all raised almost like a Persian meow who met a monster! I only realized Chinese schools not only produced some of the best math students but also some of the most up-to-date hopeless chauvinist youngest version Chinamen!

How to define Chinaman? Here are some of my definitions!

When the house was dirty, that’s a job for a woman, it's a wife’s duty. If the baby was crying, that's a job for a woman, it’s a wife’s duty. His wife had to clean and tidy the house and at the same time taking care of the baby or toddler, while the man alone sat in front of the TV enjoying his favorite show (Please note that his wife should not use the vacuum cleaner, because her husband didn't like to get disturbed). Soon the baby/toddler was crying, he called his wife loudly from a distance, “Hey! I don’t think you know how to take care of a kid! Do you know I am watching the TV?!’

He would never help his young wife, his altitude was he paid for the household expenses, why should he do a woman’s chores? He thought that unless his wife paid him like what he paid for the family expenses, then he would do the job!

There were some angry career-wives would think angrily when they saw their chauvinist-husband sitting down and rest on the chair.

Look, I go out and work too, now I just got back from work, I am tired and hungry, and the house is dirty and I have to take care of baby/toddler at the same time when I prepare dinner, how much I wish my husband can give me a hand!

If the wife didn’t have enough time to clean the house, soon the monster-in-law stepped in the living room with a house key given by her precious son, she took a look at her son who sat on the sofa watching TV, she felt relieved that her son was not bossed around by his wife, the monster-in-law soon exercised her authority, “My goodness sake, why the house is so dirty? What are you doing?’ she questioned her daughter-in-law while she was cooking dinner for everyone, luckily soon the monster-in-law kind enough to play with the little baby/toddler lest it from crying.

Soon, the sky got darker, there was a calling from the kitchen, ‘Do you mind help me to bring in the dried clothes hanging out?’ The husband pretended he couldn’t hear his wife. Hmm… why I have to do that for you? Unless you pay me, I am the bread provider for this household not you, how much money you can earn? Even you are much more educated than me, yet you can’t earn more money than me.

While the woman didn’t get response from her hubby, she quickly went out the backdoor to collect her sun-dried clothes with pop corn rain started to fall. Shit! I regretted to get married, if I didn’t get married, because of having maternity leave I ended quitting my good job, I couldn’t find a higher salary job as I couldn’t stay in a job long enough to get promoted.

Finally, the tired wife showed her black face on the dining table, the man took a look of his wife without much emotion. Shit, you lucky bitch, if you were my mom, you would be beaten up by my dad! Hmmm….. but I am a level higher than my bastard-dad who used to so often beat up my poor mother, I am a good husband because I won’t beat up my wife even if she gives me a black face like now!

DON’T MESS WITH MY MOM!

My mom is always kind to people, but that becomes her weakness; can you believe that recently someone abused mommy’s created essence as just a cordial drink?!

Nagged by I-Phone’s Mommy

I hate most of my school mates, they always called me names; besides often called me as pig; the most popular one must be I-Phone because it really sounds like my real name.

My mom told me she never realized that 7 years ago when she gave me this name that would later on sound so similar to the most popular I-Phone. She told me, ‘Don’t get angry, in this case everyone will remember and know your name!’ Don’t you think she just tried to find an excuse to get out of this situation?

My mom said she didn’t want to do bad things and treat people bad, she said even a dozen ghosts come to knock at her door at midnight she won’t get panic. She said most people when returning from graveyard would cleanse themselves with pomegranate leaves, they would never ever bring their young children to ICU visiting sick relative or friend and to pay last respect to any deceased relative or friends, but my mom is so unconventional, she took us to see our sick maternal grandpa’s best friend in ICU and when he passed away last Sunday she would also take us to see him inside the coffin, mommy would dress up white and dressed us up yellow, she said because grandpa best friend if alive would always treat me and my brother kind and nice like one of his grandkids too, she told me when a Foo Chow grandpa passed away, customary his grandkids would dress up yellow.

Mommy grumbled in disagree when her friends told her all those old feudal customary practices of not simply bringing kids to graveyard, ICU or funeral, she got her convincing reasons, ‘What’s the different between now and the future IF one of the later days you become a doctor, by the way you have to see very sick and dead people, and you will be spending most of your time in the hospital! All those hospital workers and doctors must be careful … baby, teenager or old ghosts may follow them home, they have to cleanse their bodies with pomegranate leaves everyday then!’

Mommy was quite mad in recent months due to her kindness extended to help somebody was mistreated and abused, she told me she is long from a decent, religious, cultivated and educated family, she said thus all her true friends are the most kind and nicest people alive on earth too, we are all not manipulative, unreasonable, scheming or selfish, but she said sometimes being too kind can be a weakness too, she said not everyone on this earth think and behave the same like us, bad blood running in their veins, they are full of greedy, jealous, dominating and aggressive.

Mommy told me bad blood could be passing amongst family members, she warns me that I have to open my eyes big and wide to choose a future husband, she said obviously when some bad bloods dominated the veins, kids won’t listen to mother’s words, she said for an example, her paternal grandma taught her since her young days to get up first thing in the morning: Wash and dress up decently before walk out of the bedroom. Mommy said she has been kept teaching us since my brother and I were babies, she said our babysitters would train us up in her mandated ways, we were always smartly dressed up since early morning, but she said bad blood running in the veins would never surrender especially when ones have own minds and wills, all her efforts would return to zero. Ooops …. Didn’t she mean that we have some bad bloods running in my brother and my veins as well? Because she always got so mad that my brother and I still in pajamas at I3:00 o’clock! The bad blood must be not from her then because she would always shower, dress up and put make-up nicely first thing in the morning before she walked out of the bedroom …. no matter she was sick or having holiday!

Mommy lectured me, she told me when I grow up, I have to watch out for the lurking bad women who will treat another woman as a secret enemy which is unbeknownst to the innocent kind-hearted woman, her reason is kind-hearted women are like lambs who didn’t see wolves as a threat unless gotten bite once.

‘In real life, this kind of women only befriended and could live peacefully with men, when they befriended with a lady, at first she would be so friendly as she wanted information and infiltration.’ Mommy said, ‘ …. these malicious witchy women actually wanted something that they wanted badly from that lady. Usually they are craving for something that they don’t have or possess but they see that abundantly on their individual targeted prey, they thought they deserved that instead of seeing that on the targeted prey, usually these predator kind of women think highly of themselves, they are usually smooth talking, good in angkat bola ..’

‘What is angkat bola’ I asked mommy, mommy said it means flattering people in overdone ways. Mommy told me, ‘ …… after this predator kind of women have destroyed their respective preys by either destroying a woman’s happy marriage, a professional’s very reputed career or cause a rich woman becomes penniless, these wicked bad blooded women actually never would feel guilty, ashamed of themselves, they would think that they have just won another a trophy from another competitor like after a badminton game!’

Mommy said, ‘….. usually this predator kind of women were once famous sportswomen during their school days, but sad enough they take the sportsmanship manner into their future lives and expected the loser, the first wife to shake hand congratulate her as a winner to make peace with her, expected the loser, a jobless professor badly defamed to congratulate her that she is doing very well in her most recent winning fames or expected the loser, penniless to congratulate her that now she finally has become a millionaire!’

Mommy gave me three good examples, she said the first case happened to her best friend’s friend who lost a husband to a scorpion-hearted ex-sportswoman, she said this woman was a very fervent Christian, yet she stole someone’s husband right in a church’s fellowship group and let the first wife lived in such a misery life, mommy told me later this predator begat many kids with the robbed target from her prey.

‘This kind of woman won’t feel guilty and unaware of what she did has hurt another woman, instead she still attend church services, she would pray to Jesus to forgive her, to lead her a way, then she would feel guiltless, not feeling ashamed at all of what she did, soon she would walk proud and tall on the street with her kids, she won’t care of other people’s condemning glances!’

Mommy said such scorpion has another younger sister who was also a very good sportswoman, mommy told me since the scorpion younger sister has a good husband, mommy said daddy is poor and short, he wouldn’t be a worth target, she just wanted something that she herself wanted badly yet she could never have on herself, but there is a future hope on her talented daughter, mommy told me usually this kind of predator kind of women are all unusually talented and smart, but their shortcuts are being selfish, thoughtless and unethical, they usually used religion as a tool to comfort and find excuses themselves, instead of respecting and abiding religious doctrines and good teaching, for an example, when she wanted something from mother, she was so good in flattering mommy, actually mommy told me she was just being kind and helpful, as in 10 years ago, she had heard of such scorpion’s younger sister trying to defame her career reputation, but mommy was giving her a second chance, but mommy told me the scorpion’s younger sister began to scheme her malicious planning to destroy her reputation after first time mommy imparted her profession skills to her and her daughter, soon she would set trap for mommy to fall into it by showing her unwillingness in cooperating with mommy, mommy said, ‘When they engage male professionals, they would show their full cooperation, but with me they showed that they were the most uncooperative clients in my 30 years career!’ For months mommy never heard from them, suddenly one day they wanted mommy’s attention, mommy told me that winning trophy immediately made her felt like a loser, and they expected mommy to give them praising after didn’t hear from them for ages. That sounded to me more like, ‘Look under you, my daughter fails her exam, now look under other teachers, she wins competition after competition!’ That’s quite unfair to mommy; I remember mommy spent so many sleepless nights when they didn’t want to cooperate with mommy!

You know what, I think in the surface they didn’t want to offense mommy yet, they would still tell people how much mother had helped them, and they would tell mommy how many clients they tried to introduce to mommy, but none of them ever calls mommy! Mother sighed, ‘Isn’t that ridiculous? Remember don’t get happy too quick when people flatter you, actually at first they flatter you, the next minute they wanted something from you, and after what they acquired from you, only they left the house, you then found your house was on fire!’ Mommy told me how people’s cooperation, good intentions and actions counted, but not by their smooth empty talking, sweet smiles and misused Jesus’s name!

I think these people all thought that they have been very smart, they thought mommy didn’t know what they did and manipulated behind mommy’s reputation, mommy told me this was not the first time people tried to destroy or defame her professional career, good reputation and good image, she said she is fair, even she got many kind warning of how notorious the client was, but she tried to give people chances when she thought she could help them greatly, but she is never an idiot.

Don’t they know that my mommy is a versatile person and a treasured information resourcer and career guidance for youngsters’ higher studies? But I think they better think twice if they want to use mommy again, whatever mommy taught them, they just took what they wanted for their own benefits and took that for granted of mommy’s created essence as just a cordial drink! They didn’t care what they did already sadden mommy since May, I hope they better don’t come and mess with my mom anymore! I suspect mommy is also a guns’ expert, as she has many weapons and ammunitions’ books that I found on shelves, they should be glad that this is not USA but just a meow city!

Mommy said she had paid for her 30 years career experience to learn a lesson from this scorpion’s younger sister , she said, ‘Never mine, I just hope that you become a wiser than me from all my past mistakes in life when you grow older.’

And mommy told me if one day she becomes rich she will act like a beggar! She said if an overturned dead fish could become alive, that’s her second life, she ain’t going to let any of those wicked women destroy her peacefulness once more. I asked her why, she told me there is another kind of friend who can detect your potential like a radar before you get rich, so if you really get rich, that’s the time they will ask you to buy this and that properties and shares, soon you may end up in a conman set-up scheme and you will lose all your money with even bad debts.

Mommy said, ‘We shouldn’t act so bossy, arrogant, too highly self-pride, show off ..’ Hmmm… that’s why she didn’t want me give speech or sing on the stage, she didn’t let me learn piano, she didn’t let me learn dancing. ‘… too aggressive in a bad way to hurt people, we should be aggressive towards our own devil within, when our inner devil said watch TV, let’s play computer, it’s the time we should show our aggressiveness by saying no to our inner desire and urge to make us doing something useless, acting being idle, indulge in good life and acting lazy.’

Lastly mother told me, ‘If you think good, act good and vision good, you develop a good and beautiful aura for yourself, but sometimes that will attract the oppose, so beware when someone’s greed for what you have but not in them, they may come to steal, destroy, cheat or rob from you, being good is not good enough, you have to know or may have to learn some painful lessons of all those evils’ plots and tricks, so you won’t let those evils having any chance to set a trap on you!’

Mommy said training a little boy is just like training a little puppy!

Nagged by Little Money’s Mommy

This morning when we came out of our neighborhood on the way to school, mommy began to nag in the car as usual.

She said, ‘Look at those short legged “panda” dogs on the street, everyone told me these dogs are annoying and ugly as it they owe our neighborhood street.’

My sister began to ask, ‘Mom, why they are on the street? Do they have home to return?

‘Sure! Well .... this is how when these dogs’ owners never chain them since young but let them ran free on the street when they went out to work, and these dogs eventually learned only to return home when they got hungry, and .... they also get so used to roam and kiss each others on street. I am quite sure these big dogs will yelp and annoy the whole neighborhood if we catch them now and chain in the house!’

‘Mom, why?’

‘Same like someone looking like you but already getting too old to change, since he was young whenever his parents went to work, he would be left on the neighborhood playing and growing up with the rest of the neighborhood kids, probably with street dogs too, thus they all behave like dogs exactly, home for all of them to return only when they are sick, tired and hungry. So imagine if mommy keeps someone like you, the older version … in the house for 24 hours, what will happen?’

‘He will also “yelp” and will climb ceiling!’ My 7 years old sister joked.

Mom was very happy of such reply, she continued nagging, ‘That’s why every kind of training have to start since young days, to train a little boy is just like training a little puppy. If a mother keeps her son at home adequately, he will grow up a good homely man, he will enjoy staying in the house taking care of his family, tending the garden and doing household works.'

'Just like your grandpa’s dog Pei Pei, he was trained to stay in the cage since young, and he would go out of the house to pee and poo when necessary, he grows up now as a watch dog for the house, even if the gate let widely opened it would go out just for a while only, it know its duties, get accustom to those imposed rules since young puppy days.’

'I wish you will grow up like good old Pei Pei instead like your dad!' Mom finally honestly revealed what was really on her mind. Oh mom, you really compare me to a dog? ... And you think a dog can behave better than a big human being .... someone looking like me but an older version?!

Cook it the Burmese way!

Thanks to Foo Chow-Burmese English professor in Swinburne Kuching who taught me how to prepare this dish. Roselle leaf is a bit sour, can use it to prepare soup as well.

1. Pick Roselle leaves and stem them

2. Fry onion, garlic, chili, fish belacan with oil until brownish

3. Add fresh prawn and stemed Roselle leaves, fry them.

Serve it with rice, really yummy!
