Tru-Mould Warehouse Party

Assassins 88(myspace) were the first band up at the Tru-Mould Warehouse Party, and they are a fun party band, very noisy. The drummer in the back, who you can't really see in this pic, has tape on his mouth and was making some very static noisy vocals to great effect.

Outside people were having there BYO drinks and trying out a sausage from the BBQ.

Above Scott and Charlene’s wedding another pop band, but alot slower and complete chance from Assassins. BoomGates finished the gig off, it was way to packed to get a good pick in, as I was pushed up at the band. They are todays rave band, getting some good reviews from their recent Big Day Out performance, with a member of Eddy Current Suppression Ring. They did remind me of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, a little slower, with some female vocals.

Last pic shows the big crowd out the front, many people probably didn't get in, and plenty of the BYO bottles that had been used and tossed away.

Banana Muffins

Just made some banana muffins from a recipe mum gave me. Not really my typical post for this blog but what the hell, you can make this late at night if you like, only 20 minutes.

With this recipe I didn't use the vanilla essence, but it still worked.

Ingredients:
2 and 1/2 cups self-raising flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons margarine (melted)
250ml milk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 ripe bananas (mashed)

Method:
Preheat oven to 180 C, and grease a 12 hole muffin pan. Sift flours into a large bowl,
stir in sugar and make a well in the centre. In a small bowl whisk margarine, milk,
egg, vanilla and banana using a fork, then add to flour mixture and stir gently to combine.
Spoon into pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until muffins are well risen.
Cool on a wire rack.

DJ Fail

I'm writing this as a way to debrief and talk through my dj failure tonight and hopefully improve.

Should of done more research as to what was to be played. This could of been done by visiting the club before hand & running buy a mix with someone to see what they think, if it will fit in.

Second problem was not being familiar with the equipment. This place was using a set of pioneer cdj 1000, which are the latest model compared to my older cdj 200, and Pioneer DJM 800 4 Channel Mixer. The mixer I wasn't 100% with, and would prob need more time and experience with one to feel more comfortable using it. Also another way of conquered this would be to do a dj course, this would also help with mixing of tracks as this was a fail. Martin who was djing after was giving me some good tips with fading, consistent volume levels, and suggested to keep the tempo up, more party tunes.

The third and major dilemma for the night was my nerves. The gradual build up to this got my gut turning. This is so stupid as I've been in front of a crowd before, and with all those exhibition openings i had in the past, but this is something different. I was this nervous going back to when I dj'd at high vibes in front of a large crowd. Basically as soon as I started my legs were shaking and my sight started getting fuzzy, if that all makes sense, luckily Martin came to save my failure. I think pressure that was built up during the week, wanting to please and not wanting to fail all got to me and made me freeze up. How I could overcome this would be having one or a few friends around for support, I definitely shouldn't of gone by myself, and as perviously mentioned more confident with the hardware and suitable music would build up my confidence, which was lacking tonight.

I think this has been a great help writing this down straight after coming home. Hopefully I can improve my skills and get over my nerves.

Benefit for Mr. Peach

I found out about this band via fauxpas(recent album Noiseworks has been nominated for a Independent Music Award) iamfauxpas.com/2010/09/rydeens/. Yellow Magic Orchestra is a three piece Japanese electro group formed back in 1978 (wiki). If you like Daft Punk this will float your boat. Also this is a great video.

Exciting today this I was advised of an exciting new Melbourne Music blog 'Tried and Tested. The Julian Wu Life Project.'.

One Sunday afternoon in 2009, I was sitting with a cross generational group of mates at The Brunswick Green. One had decided to go to Canada for a year, and was reminiscing about Melbourne life. She talked about the food, the gigs, and then Julian Wu came up. Julian Wu as a fixture on the Melbourne Music scene for as long as anyone could remember. Not a band member, but a fan. It was at that point when 5 out of 6 all had encountered Julian Wu at some stage of their gig going lives. Rather curiously, no-one actually knew him personally.

The posts are more of a journal about the live music scene in Melbourne and can offer some insight into what new bands are playing. Gig's are number and this blogger is up to their 204.5th gig for 2010.

The answer to whatever. Die Antwoord (means 'The Answer') straight outa South Africa. They are Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek.

This is the type of band they would play in a movie depicting the music while a time traveler would be bombarded by these crazy futuristic band.

Question 1: What song changed your life?
'Being Boiled' The Human League
Gareth and I both picked a Human League song, Gareth picked 'Being Boiled', this song summed up what was happening in music in the early 80's.

'Circus of Horrors' Quiet Village from the Album Silent Movie.
I picked this track and it starts off with this deep base line that's gets you pumped. Silent Movie is a stand out album, with many great tracks.

Question 3: And Sunday morning?
'Bones' A Mountain of One from Album Institute of Joy
I picked this track from a great Psychedelic Rock album. Mountain of One reminds me of 70's band, even a touch of Fleetwood Mac, and is perfect to relax and kick back to.

'Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free' Zombie Zombie
I also picked this one, if I was on a Island I'd probably go crazy and would need some suitable soundtrack, plus Zombie Zombie tracks are long. Check out the video on Youtube, a homage to John Carpenters 'The Thing' done with GI Joe toys.

The new band room is very cosy, although there there was trouble with the smell and sweat. The aircon was turned on but the window was still fogged up. Maybe this room could be on the nose come summer. However no poll in the middle of the room was great.

Marf Loaf two peice, great voice and excellent guitarist. Quoabe played some Gothic folk rock, guitar I could hear but his voice was a little muffled. Joseph Liddy and the Skeleton Horse, young band, had some loud rocking tunes mixed in with some quieter moments.
