I sold dvds on places like Ebay. You may ask how a teenager was able to start a business, but the answer is simple— common sense. I had no business experience, I lived with my parents and my major in college was history. I did not need a job and I was able to focus on my studies while learning something I could use for the rest of my life.

The aim of any business or investing venture is to buy low and sell high. I bought dvds in bulk at low rates and sold them for twice as much or more. Many wholesale sites advertise on the internet so finding what you want to sell should not be difficult. Often wholesalers will give large discounts to those who buy in bulk. The dvd game has changed since I started my little dvd business; Amazon third party sellers now sell dvds for literally pennies, but you can find your own product and niche to sell. I sold dvds because I enjoy movies. You can find something you have knowledge in or are passionate about and sell it. You can even search through your garage or attic and dust off those old antiques, furniture or toys just lying around your house. You would be surprised how high everyday items in your home can sell. If you are good at making things you could sell items that you make. Here are some key steps.
Make a plan. Figure out what you want to sell and know the competition. You will be twice as successful in selling something with a little field of competition. The most successful corporations and business are the ones with little competition or monopolies. Be the one everyone has to go to when they want to buy something and lure them in with quality products and good pricing. If big business can do it you can too. Don’t waste your time selling something where other sellers are clamoring on top of each other selling products for pennies. Find a void, a rare market or a high-selling product and capitalize on it.

I sold dvds which were underground in nature: adult films and documentaries depicting real scenes of death. Seedy I know, but it was a niche and people wanted to buy it. At least you know I am genuine. At the time those types of dvds sold the best so I capitalized on the opportunity. You can find something to capitalize on in today’s market too. You don’t have to go underground to make money, but find a market with little competition and sell. If you find yourself wanting to sell a product with wide competition then adorn your product or service with a unique quality that will separate you from the pack.

Get a domain name or buy a business title (optional). This is optional on your part. I decided to get a business title because I was starting out and I wanted to be credible in the minds of consumers. Individuals can start a business without a business name and when I bought in bulk I did not have to be a business in order to do business with wholesale companies. As long as I had the money it did not matter who I was. If you want to start a business name, however, it is not expensive at all. My business name was Consumer Paradise. If a broke college student can get a business title you can to. Just check your local area to find out what it takes to get your own business title.

Buy low sell high. In today’s economy I know money is tight and you may not have enough to buy large products in bulk to sell at higher prices. I did not either when I was starting out. The dvds I bought in bulk only cost $1 to $2 each. If I spent $10 on 10 dvds and sold them at $8 a piece that is an extra $65 in my pocket minus the $10 I spent for dvds along with the shipping cost of $5. $65 can go a long way nowadays; it could pay the phone bill or a week’s worth of groceries. This is just a small example of how you can buy low and sell high. Turn $10 into $80 or $50 into $400 on whatever product or service you have in mind. It all depends on how much you want to make. If you could get wholesale products that are dirt cheap and sell them online or in your local area then you are in business. If you have a creative spark and drive to make money I am sure you could triple the output. Instead of working for money have money work for you.

Do a budget. Always calculate additional expenses such as shipping costs, packaging materials etc. If you are making a product figure out the cost of raw materials needed to make that one product. They may not cost much on the surface, but sometimes the little things can add up over time. Keep track of your expenses and be sure not to waste money.
Remember: This is not a guarantee of success, but it will greatly increase your chances of becoming your own boss. I am sure there are those in business who can add a more complicated business model, but this is what worked for me when I was a liberal arts major who had no business expertise. As with any business or investment there is risk, but there can be also great reward. You can make your own money while learning the invaluable knowledge of becoming self-sufficient in a down-trodden economy. As someone who ran my own DVD business combined with the fact that I love anything sweet, especially cakes, I think starting a cake business would be a great idea, but many people don't have the tools and know-how to do so. The following courses and membership plans are definitely a step in the right direction. Whether for birthdays, weddings, parties or any special occasion, most events and special events involve cakes. This is where you could come in. If you love baking like I do and you want your own business then I would recommend checking out what these membership plans offer.

Channels Without Cable or Internet

In a tough economy, many people are no longer able to pay for cable or satellite. When I was out of work, I found as many ways as possible to watch t.v. since I could not afford to pay the cable bill. Regardless if you can afford the cable bill or not, I found some sites that offer no monthly subscriptions or download fees for movies and channels from around the world. You can not only download movies and t.v. shows but entire channels and it's perfectly legal. Here are some good sites.

I have been a Today Show watcher for some time and Ann Curry's departure from the Today Show after 15 years is quite questionable. Though NBC executives never said that Curry was responsible for downward ratings, their actions and the way they have handled her leaving makes one suspect that she was somehow the cause of dropping viewership when that is not the case. The plummeting ratings on the Today Show cannot be blamed on Ann Curry or any other host of the Today Show for that matter. The executives are to blame and they are not the only T.V. execs to fall behind the rising tide of online newspapers and blogs where many people now get their news. Producers and executives have failed to keep their pulse on America's dissatisfaction with television media.

Polls show that more Americans look to other sources for news not to mention more are not satisfied with the way news is being covered and the content offered. CNN had some of their lowest ratings in over twenty years. Many people look to the internet, Facebook and mobile phones for news. Television news has failed to compete with the juggernaut that is the internet by not providing good content. When it comes to news, content is the meat that drives viewership and the fact that the Today Show has not really adapted to a changing world of social media and internet, it is no wonder that ratings for the show have taken a downturn.

Television has failed to realize that a good way to drive up ratings is through content. They should change what kind of news they cover and take more risks to reach out to wider audiences. Television news needs to give their viewers more credit when it comes looking for news. They are not always looking for great recipes or what celebrities are doing at the current moment. While that type of content does have a place in news, it should be balanced with more substantive topics and a wider range of stories and events from around the world. I have been watching cable and television news for long enough to know the incessant twenty-four coverage of the same topics becomes monotonous and eventually leads me to turn off the television. The over-saturation of a few topics is a major problem in television news game which explains why more people look elsewhere for information. When producers and executives realize this, only then they can salvage their business and once again win the trust of viewers.

How to Download Unlimited Movies the Legal Way

If you are like me, you are always looking for ways to gain access to as many movies as possible. There is Netflix, but their instant-view catalog is quite limited followed with the 60% increase in price plans. As someone who watches quite a lot of movies, I am also someone who not only wants to see movies multiple times, but I want my favorite movies in my private collection. I could download the illegal way, but the risk of being sued and/or contracting a computer virus is far too great. I have searched various avenues of downloading movies the legal way and I have come across a couple of websites that allowed me such freedom to download as many movies as I wanted. I was only able to find a site where I could download unlimited movies for good prices combined with an up-to-date.

Legitimate download sites like Movies Capital and Imoviesclub are a good legal way of downloading as many movies as you want in your private collection without paying monthly fees. Both sites offer a flat rate according to a three-tired system of membership. They offer a one month Silver plan membership for $29.95, a Gold plan of $35.95 for 3 months and the highest $39.95 Platinum for 2 years. Since the highest plans are only $10 extra, I would recommend getting the Platinum plan to get the most out of your experience. The catalog of the movie sites range from classics until the current year of 2011. If you are nervous about downloading online then Movies Capital and Imoviesclub are a safe way of getting your favorite movies without traversing unknown sites and infringing on copyrights. Here are a few sites.
