I found this oversized tire rim (from a truck...

Tire Rim Ottoman

I found this oversized tire rim (from a truck or bus) at a junkyard in northern Minnesota. When I asked the elderly junkyard worker if I could pay him for it to make a piece of furniture out of it, he looked at me like I was crazy, chuckled and said I could have it for free. So began the brainstorming process and I always liked the idea of an ottoman made from a tire rim. The top cushion comes off for storage inside the rim where fabric covers the bottom shelf. The top fabric is excess fabric I purchased at a rummage sale and the bottom fabric is from a curtain.

Lamp Shade Beads

Recently I learned to cover lampshades to give them a fresh look (as seen in the previous lamp post) by using scrap fabrics or pillowcases. I took these beads off of a gently used lampshade and cut them off the strand to use for another project. Taking five minutes to cut off the beads and keep them with the other spare beads I already have is a simple way to add to my supplies without throwing something away or spending any money.

The Latest Level Lamps

I found these trailer levels last fall and finally got around to turning them into light fixtures and I love the color of them. I sold them recently at an Art Show to someone to make them an accent in their modern home.

Film Reel, Jug, Vase Light Fixtures

One product that I have always liked to make with unwanted materials is light fixtures because I can use anything and everything and I don’t have to worry about supporting anyones body weight with unwanted materials. These film reels were given to me and I purchased the vase and the jug that says “Winter Formal 1966” on it. The shades were purchased or broken and collected. The teal and white one, yellow and white one and blue and white one were all originally a shade of beige and I didn’t like how they looked so I recovered the shades with scrap fabric and a pillow case. In front of them are paperclip earrings! More to come about them.

Sea Glass Pendants

Here are some of the products I sold during my show last week. I love sea glass or lake/river/stream glass. They show the true definition of upcycling, from litter to beautiful necklace pendants! These are one of my new favorites to make, just finding the pieces of glass takes a little work. There is also a blue bead pendant shown as well that has been collected from a broken necklace along with the other beads pictured.

Upcycle Infatuation spreads it’s wings!!

This last Saturday I had my first public show at an event called Alive at the Market, a fundraiser for the Face It Foundation at the Minneapolis, MN Farmers Market Annex. It was a beautiful event and I was glad to be a part of it. Shoppers were sparse but the networking was big. So, the excitement of selling art grew in me. I had new film reel light fixtures and jug lamps for sale along with record bowls, paperclip earrings, hanging minnesota ornaments and sea glass pendants and felted hats from my friend Jan from upcyclePhD. A fun evening overall. Look for pictures of the items soon to come. Unfortunately my camera was not charged so I only have cell phone pictures but will work on product pictures.

A Long Break and A New Logo!

This trash villa is in Rome and part of a Recycle exhibit. 24 High School students from all over Italy came together and used glass bottles, oil barrels, old furniture and windows, car doors and oil drums. Way to be creative! To learn more, go to http://www.treehugger.com/green-architecture/officina-roma-villa-entirely-built-out-trash.html?campaign=daily_nl

Upcycling in everyday objects. Check out this mailbox that is located just outside Manhattan, Kansas in the heart of farmland. They used an old farm plow to add some fun to this box.

Call it a Yard/ Garage/ Rummage Sale! They are coming and I went to my first one on Thursday!!!! Even though I’m always looking for junk, I get really excited during Sale season because that means it’s time to find some fun stuff to Upcycle and start brainstorming ideas! On Thursday I purchased 17 glass candles holders for $4.25 that I plan to add some decoration to. I also purchased an unused ikea red and black dish towel for $0.10 and a pink owl tshirt for $1 that will either make a great pieces of art or pillows. Alright time to Upcycle!!!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!
