If you've seen a FULL BAND show lately, you probably noticed a change in the Osceola Boys. I am proud to announce that Lanny Rice is back on the drums, Bob Harwell is on pedal steel guitar, Tyler Orem, long time Osceola Boy, has moved from lead guitar to upright bass, while I have picked up my ol' telecaster electric guitar to round out the band. I am very excited about the changes and look very forward to seeing you all at the next show. Thanks again for your support, and God bless.

This just in!! My latest album "It's About That Time", has almost reached the 500 sold mark. On a bell curve, that would be like a gold record (500,000 sold)!! Haha! In all seriousness, I am very grateful for that. Everyone's support means so much to me.

New Look!

I would once again like to thank the "web site guy" my life long friend, Bret Thomas, for the new look on the web site. As I hope you have noticed, he has given kenyonlockry.com a face lift of sorts. You might also notice that the art direction looks a lot like the art direction on the new album, "It's About That Time." That is because Bret is also the "art and design guy" not to mention, he is a very "nice guy"...... ok I may have had too much coffee this morning, so I will sign off for now! Thanks Bret!

Country Music People Magazine Review

I just got a review for my newest album, "It's About That Time," that'll be in an upcoming edition of Country Music People Magazine in the UK. It got 5 out of 5 stars! It is among the greatest compliment I have ever received, and as Mark Twain once said, "I can live for two months on a good compliment." Thanks Duncan.

If you’re going to learn, you

may as well learn from the

best, and Kenyon Lockry has

Mel Tillis mentoring him. Tillis

heard a demo by Lockry in

2006 and wanted to meet him.

He invited him to stay on his

farm outside Nashville and to

help introduce him to the ‘right

people’. He also signed Lockry to

a management deal, and whilst

I wasn’t previously familiar with

Kenyon Lockry, on the strength

of this release it’s obvious why

Mel would get so excited. Lockry

says on his website, “I can’t

begin to list all that Mel has

taught me about showmanship,

songwriting, singing, and the

music itself. I can’t thank Mel

enough.”

We can assume that Mel

didn’t get involved to try and

make a quick buck, for Lockry

is way too country for today’s

country, unlikely to break through

at country radio any time soon,

and, though it pains me to say

it, probably won’t have the major

labels hunting him down unless

he changes his sound. All of

which is good news for anyone

who likes traditional country from

the school of Hank, brought bang

up to date with a bunch of twang,

lashings of steel, and a voice

somewhere between Roger

Miller and Rodney Hayden for

some mighty fine rockin’ honky

tonk.

I get the feeling that references

to Hank that litter the album are

not just there for effect, or to

establish some kind of credibility,

this guy is for real, and knows

his stuff, but It’s About Time is far

from a retro effort.

Working from a download, I

don’t have the writing credits

but would guess that Lockry has

written all the songs here and

the material is impressive. Honky

Tonk ’Til I’m Over You, with

twangy guitar, a slappin’ bass

line and Hank-esque steel nails

his colours to the mast in style

for the album opener. There are

plenty of up-tempo honky tonkers

but variety is provided with the

spiritual number, Follow His Light

And Be Redeemed, which is set

to a Johnny Cash rhythm, the

closest he comes to a ballad

with Let’s Write Ourselves A

Love Song, the rockabilly-ish

My Lil’ Fiance, and the more

contemporary sounding I Didn’t

Grow Up Pickin’ Cotton which

is lyrically superb - “I know it’d

be easy to say I was born sixty

years too late, but I know God

doesn’t make mistakes”.

There may be only ten tracks

and a running time just under

26 minutes, but every track is

a corker and Kenyon Lockry is

recommended without hesitation.

I hope we get to hear a lot more

from him.

"It's About That Time" release

Well, it has been a while since I have written on this! I guess it shows how much of a computer guy I am. Well so much has happened since my last entry. The latest and greatest is how soon my new album "It's About That Time," will be released! We are getting real close. I have just finished re-singing a few songs with my friend Jed Johnson, who has engineered four of the ten songs. He's now sending them via e-mail (technology is amazing, huh?) to Jamie Carter who's Mel Tillis' sound man. Jamie will then mix and master the whole record. Jamie has engineered my prior albums, and I'm proud to work with such a pro. I am real excited for everyone to hear the record when it's done, it has been a long time coming!

CMA Music Festival 2011

What a week it was! Wednesday kicked it off for me at the Marty Stuart Late Night Jam in the Ryman Auditorium! I got to sing "Folsom Prison Blues." I am blessed to be able to say it was my fourth time singing at the Ryman, and it was my favorite time. It was the first time I performed there that it wasn't a complete blur. That stage is so "big" in every aspect. There is so much history, and all my biggest heroes have performed there. It's so great, that I had to kind of "fake" my confidence up there. It was such an amazing feeling, like nothing I've ever felt, and I know that I'll never feel that unique feeling on any other stage. Another amazing fact about the evening was that Dolly Parton was on the show too! Not to mention Doug Kershaw, Duanne Eddy, Ricky Skaggs, Connie Smith and the Quebe Sisters. It was a star studded night with hillbilly star dust floating in the air.

The rest of the week was jammed packed. I got to make an appearance at Tootsies, thanks to Mel and Steve Smith. Then I got to sing at the Riverfront Stage in downtown Nashville. It was my third time doing that with Mel, but this time Mel had me sing three songs! That was completely awesome. Then later that night, I sang at the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree! I sang a total of four songs there. That is very special. It is the longest running radio show, second only to the Grand Ole Opry. If anyone at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop reads this, thank you for your support.

All of last week would be completely impossible for me to be a part of without my manager Merv Tubbs, I mean Mel Tillis. Thanks again Merv, I love ya!!

The Catfish Place

One of my favorite restaurants on the planet is "The Catfish Place," in my hometown, St. Cloud, FL. I am very excited about performing there (an acoustic solo performance) this Friday. Be sure to check out my "Shows" page for all the info. The first thing people ask me when they hear about the show is "where are you going to sit?" My reply is, right under the boars head in the corner! If you've never been, which will be hard for me to believe if your from the area, you'll have to order the catfish "no bones" meal with coleslaw and a sweet tea. It's going to be a laid back family event that I'm proud to be a part of.

5th Annual Mel Tillis and Friends Fishing Tournament

It was the 5th Annual Mel Tillis and Friends Fishing Tournament last weekend, and as always, we had a great time. I must say, the highlight for me was when Jeff Cook of "Alabama" came on stage, played on my telecaster, and sang "Workin Man Blues!" Also, it was great seeing Nashville Producer, Buddy Cannon, and catching up with him, not to mention, all my friends from Steinhatchee, Ricky and Carol to name a few. Lastly, it was all for a great cause, Tampa's Shriner Hospitals for Children.

New Demo!!!

I just got back from Music City USA and I'm excited to say I have a new demo! We recorded six songs, all of which I wrote. Pickin' Up My Pride, Honky Tonk Till I'm Over You, Tossin' and Turnin' for You, Let's Write Ourselves a Love Song, My Lil' Fiance, and Lovin's What I Do Best. Luckily I had Jamie Carter and Sonny Tillis in there with me. Also, Ira Dean showed up to play upright bass and also helped me produce the record. I can't wait for everyone to hear it!

There I was, singing at the Osceola Fair; six years prior singing at the fair was my very first show singing country music publicly! It was a reflective evening for me. Also, a majority of the crowd were all people who have supported me over the years, and I feel like a lot of them hadn't seen me in a while. I was excited to show them how I've sharpened my talents, and how much I've learned about showmanship, not to mention, how the band has progressed. I was so delighted that everyone was as complimentary as they could be afterwards. The evening was a real success to say the least! Thank you!

The Bill Mack Show on Willie's Place

The other day, Mel Tillis was on the Bill Mack Show on Sirius XM's Willie's Place. I am a big fan of the Bill Mack show, and am very proud to say they played three songs on mine, and I had the privaledge to call in and talk live on the air! I was star struck talking to Bill on his show that I listen to regularly. It made me feel like a million dollars hearing Bill tell me he remembered meeting me in Fort Worth, TX three years ago, and for him to tell me he was behind me all the way. Also, I may get to be on the show in the future when Mel Tillis goes back on. I will let everyone know asap. Being on the Bill Mack show is something I'll never forget.

Thr Grand Ole Opry, Friday July 16th, 2010

On Friday, July 16th 2010, I had the honor of singing at the Grand Ole Opry at the mother church of country music, the Ryman Auditorium. I must say, that in my heart, their is no way I can ever top that. I sang one song, a song I wrote, "Pickin' Up My Pride." Their was so much anticipation and excitment leading up to my turn to sing, that when my two and a half minute song was over, and I took my bow and walked off the stage, I couldn't believe it was all over! It took me days to come down off that high. My wife said I was kind of in a daze. If the good Lord's willing, one day, that moment will be a memory of mine that my grandkids get tired of hearing me talk about.

Telly Award

Last Saturday, March 27th at Silver Springs, I was honored with the Telly Award for the video we made for "Big Pig Shack." I am so proud of it. When they handed me the trophy, I felt like I was at an award show and it was time to give a speech. It was one of those surreal moments that I'll cherish.
